    This seems like something that would make a good investment for a game store. The super-detailed tables are nice and all, but a modular hex grid of that size could be quite the draw and running the printer, snapping in the magnets, and periodically reconfiguring the table, would be something productive to do when there aren't any customers.
    Also, the printer could be used to take custom orders for minis and such.
    Making this system cross-compatible with as many hex games as possible and making larger snap-together buildings (for the sake of modularity and compact storage) could take this to another level if you felt so inclined.
    Also, while I see you don't usually sell printed ones yourself, some kind of commercial licence to allow anyone with a business and a 3d printer to make and sell them might be advantageous for you as well.
    (Not presuming to know the insides of your business better than you, of course. These may not be good ideas for reasons I can't see from where I am. I can only hope that my random thoughts can be somewhat helpful inspiration in some way and wish you the best in the good work you're doing.)

      While I don't normally sell them printed I have done so as one off's in the past. And I recently printed up a full board to loan to a game store in my town but things soured between them and me so now I have the board without a game store. I do sell the files and they are my top selling design. I also do offer a commercial license thru My Mini Factory (link in the description). The board I printed up fully magnetized is 24 by 36 inches cost me about $300 to $350 to do. Magnets are expensive. And that price doesn't include the white board. I think it would be a great investment for a store. The Catalyst game maps are nice but are static and can get boring. This way you can have a different board each time people play.

    I like the idea, but the terrain options seem to be a bit of a problem unless there is a detail not shown here.
    for instance, mechs walk onto woods, i would need to remove the woods tile to put the mech there. I think the best implementation of trees I found are that the tree top is detachable from the base, and the base has some sort of visual indicator as to what it is (light, heavy)

      The wood tiles are designed to place the miniatures on top of them. They details work. You do not need to remove anything.

    I have additional information regarding magnets.
    I ran into the problem that some of my 3mm magnets did not sit securely inside the holes and it turns out the magnest which I bought differ in diameter because of different colours.
    So if you also bought couloured magnets and encountered a similar problem you may have to find out which colours are the smalest on average and try those first to save your larger magnets for the holes where the small ones wont hold.
    Edith: Some additional information for the additional information. I printed the hexes on a resin printer and an FDM printer the fit on the FDM parts is a bit tighter which I assume is a result of the material so I guess you will not run into problems there. PS love the parts and am looking forward to playing on them.

    • @wargameforge
      @wargameforge  ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet there is an enamel coating to give the magnets their color and that makes them slightly larger. Sorry that happened!

    I might be missing something but... how to you put a figurine say in the woods, or in that large crater ? It doesn't seem like the mini will stay up. This is still a great idea btw, I really love it !

    • @wargameforge
      @wargameforge  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The crater can hold a mini in the middle but it is more for looks. The wood hex tiles are flat on the top and let the mech mini stand on them. I have updated the light and heavy wood design to give minies a better space to be set on than the ones in this older video.

      @@wargameforge Something else you could do is print a transparent negative hex piece for the craters, trees, etc. Or perhaps a mold where you can pour some clear resin on top so it makes for a flat surface but maintains the cool aesthetics.

      @@thebaumfaeller1477 Glad you found some. They are getting harder to get and it can be expensive depending on the size of the board you are making. I made the frame to help with that. With the frame you don't need to magnetize every hex, just the ones on upper levels. And to help cut down on magnet use print the cluster tiles, a single piece with multiple hexes. This way you are using less magnets per hex since you only have to magnetize the holes on the outer edge.

    • @wargameforge
      @wargameforge  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I print them on an FDM printer. But a few people I've spoken with that resin print do so flat on the build plate. The undersides of the maghex versions are beveled so they can be easier to remove from the plate. But in the end I suggest running a few tests to see what works well for you.
