Broad and Anderson have to go down as one of the all time great bowling pairs. Both did it for a ridiculous amount of time. Both were world class on their day…. But Jimmy was something special. The most impressive aspect is the consistency, we have had good bowlers since like Wood and Archer, but their bodies let them down. If they aren’t already they should be looking at his career in fine detail. How did he go so long and avoid significant injuries as well.
You have to look to the big series in the future, not the smaller ones this summer. When you make the decision to go on as long as you can, then the only way it can end is with a tap on the shoulder.

I've never seen a forced retirement work. It's always done for the wrong reasons. If Jimmy gets a fivefer then someone like Tongue comes in and tanks - it makes a mockery of it. There's enough space and injuries in England's first XI to require Jimmy in there to shepherd new ones in. The chance of Robinson and Wood being fit for a series is near zero so there's your space. From a sentimental stand point you don't treat England's greatest ever bowler like that when he obviously is playing close to how he has for the past ten years and wants to continue.
Some good points there. At the moment, there aren’t many I can think of running through county batting line ups who are walking into the England bowling line up. Problem is if the ones they try this summer don’t cut the mustard and they start chopping and changing the attack over the next year, they go down under in 18 months with a very raw crop of pace and seam bowlers and they’re banking on having a fully fit test match ready Jofra Archer by then.
He's had an amazing career 👏🏾 ❤️ and we are all sad to see him go 😢 because we know we wont have someone like him in a very long time 😢 enjoy your retirement Jimmy ❤
What a legend for England. Are greatest bowler ever. Oh Jimmy Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy Anderson! Hopefully I will be there to give him a great send off. Thanks for the memories.
Jimmy is the best bowler England has now. He was better and fitter than other fast bowlers who bowled in India. I don't agree with the way he has been treated by the current establishment.
The world of cricket has lost a very valuable asset to its game. It would be selfish of us to begrudge him for retiring. He deserves to bow out in style. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, James !

As the former England captians says on performance overall he should play 1 more test. Especially as its the Home of Cricket , Lords it would be a fitting tribute to 1 of England's greatest bowlers. To play Test Cricket for 20 years or more is quiet outstanding. A test of deadition, fitness and the hunger to play at the highest level is simply remarkable achievement. To him his former captains , and present one Ben Stokes , Brenden McCullum , physics and coaching staff it's a testament to them also without doubt . Jimmy as had his injuries like anyone else , especially bowlers is partnership with Stuart Broad as been outstanding . Between them taking over a 1,000 Test Wickets an achievement in itself. So it's fitting James Anderson finishes on a high, let's hope he can beat Shane Warnes 708 Test Wickets . What a performance that would be , James Anderson a true English Legend 👏 👍 👌 🙌.
I'm not an Anderson fan, but if this is a forced retirement it's outrageous. On the basis of form Anderson should at least be picked for the current summer in England, and there is no obvious indication that his ability with the ball will deteriorate. McCullum is toxic as a leader and a coach.
I watched him in India and he was the best England seamer on show. Ridiculous to ask him to walk away. Repeat until failure, is my mantra. He has the right to play until he’s not performing. And you have not shown that you have a better alternative.
This is the downside to longevity. Broad and Anderson have been so good for so long we have never got to develop the next bowling line up. Like many I have mixed feelings about this. I understand the need to bring in younger blood but certainly in English conditions Anderson is still our best bowler. Contrast that with the Archer situation. A player who has barely played in several years now yet has been giving more than enough opportunities and multiple selection opportunities without bowling himself into the team. There is no way he will survive long term, we should be moving on from him. I think we will struggle. Wood is too unreliable injury wise. Robinson looks out of shape to me. Woakes is good in England but also has injury and age issues. I guess the future is Potts, Tongue and Atkinson. Maybe Porter or Cook will get a chance who knows. Thanks Jimmy it is overused but you are a Superstar of the game certainly for England it has been a privilege to watch you.
It's a shame that Broad and Anderson played most of their careers in a week England side. Imagine them at their peaks in the mid 2000s England squad, that would've been insane.
As a Lancastrian by birth….. They don’t make em like this anymore….. what a player. What a legend. Top top player and man. An English and Lancastrian great!
He's been averaging over 50 with the ball for his last two series, one of them in England. And he's not even playing for his county atm - so it's hard to select him on form. But, given his service to English cricket, he deserves a send off and that's coming from an Aussie. I'd also love to see Joffra Archer in action again in Test cricket. Let's hope he can stay injury free.

Far more wickets at a better average in India than Lillee. Take out his first 15 tests and his overall career record compares very well with those named above.
@@lomar0058 Because that was when Troy Cooley messed about with this bowling action and brought an end to his initial successes. Anderson never felt comfortable with his changed action and not only did it make him less effective but also resulted in spinal stress fractures which put him out for nearly a year. After this Anderson went back to his original bowling action and basically started his test career again from the beginning.
Agree. And plenty of others too. WI alone also had Garner, Holding, Roberts who were better, along with Marshall and Ambrose. Aus had Lindwall, Miller, Davidson along with Lillee. And Cummins is better too. Hadlee, Imran, Wasim, Waqar. All better. I’d say Jimmy it top 20 all time. Which is great, but not as great as the English think.
Imagine he pulls a hammy just before the Test and can't play... Tears of laughter will come out of my one eye, and just sobbing like a baby from the other.
If they were still in with a shout of doing something in the World Test Championship, then he'd be staying on. Batters failed last year. He's the one paying the price. Can't imagine any of them spent their time-off working as hard as Jimmy did to get ready for India.

Forcing him to retire is a massive mistake in my opinion. He could've easily broken Sachin's Test played record if they allowed him to continue because I have no doubt he'll still be good enough to fit into the best England XI and he'll be fit enough to do so as well.
@@rangergaming8316 Yes He could have broke the most tests played by a player and being a bowler it would have a unique and unbreakable record held by him and I don't think it's a good idea for coach or board to force a player to retire
Was ineffective last summer in the Ashes and decent in India but it is high time he left. They need to look forward. In years to come people will not believe a fast bowler will play 20 years! Go well Jimmy
What you have to remember is that Anderson played test cricket home and away continually twelve months of the year every year and it an amazing feat that he did that for so long. Steyn on the other hand generally only played test cricket from September to April, having a break from May to Sept. He only played full years on two instances when he toured England and he broke down both times during those years.
Who's our greatest bowler? Not Jimmy. If Fred Trueman had played 188 tests, he'd have taken 861 wickets, and been the greatest bowler of them all, not just for England. Anderson is (was) very good, but he was no Trueman (or a handful of others I could mention). But if such cricketing champions and luminaries like Athers and Hussein say so, them I suppose we must all fall into line, and start blubbing when this superannuated grumpy old bed blocker finally gives it away (but only after being ordered to, of course). Stark contrast to Broad's exit last year, which was genuinely poignant, classy and well-timed.
He should have retired years ago. His performances have not been world-class for a few years, despite what he claims. At least, he will go down as an England great and a legend which is what he deserves for his service

He was so close to breaking Murali's record. It's sad
Personally think he should do the whole summer (fitness prevailing) of course. Like you guys have said if he can still do it!!!
Why? What would be the point for England cricket? If we need him to beat WI and SL at home, we are in truly big trouble.
@@simonjess8471 Why??? As I said in my previous statement your honor; IF he can still do it! That’s why
@@davidhobson464 Strangely, they look to the future.
@@simonjess8471 is the right answer but would you cut a flower while it’s still in full bloom???
@@davidhobson464 Yes, if it was stopping a young flower coming through.
What is future of England's swing and seam attack 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Look at their confidence😂😂
Red Ball King. Pauper without it. As said by Naseer too.
Surprised it's now. Probably should have gone with Stuart Broad. What a servant to English Cricket
It was his choice to carry on as long as he could rather than go on his terms with the big send off. That way can only end with a tap on the shoulder.
I wish He can surpass Warne wicket tally.
Anderson was a great bowler although by no means anywhere near the class of Lillee, Marshall, Ambrose, Steyn and McGrath.
Far more wickets at a better average in India than Lillee. Take out his first 15 tests and his overall career record compares very well with those named above.
@@Morhawwhy do you have to take out the 1st 15 test for loool
@@lomar0058 Because that was when Troy Cooley messed about with this bowling action and brought an end to his initial successes. Anderson never felt comfortable with his changed action and not only did it make him less effective but also resulted in spinal stress fractures which put him out for nearly a year. After this Anderson went back to his original bowling action and basically started his test career again from the beginning.
@@Morhaw I do not know from where you get your facts. Denis Lillee di not ever play a Test match in India.
Two decades of supernova, James Anderson, happy retirement.
Hope he gets 8 wickets in the final game
What a great bowler
Chokli must be relieved 😂😂
LOL .KOHLI BAAP OF ANDERSON .ANDERSON SCARED OF KOHLI PRIME FORM AND RETIRED😂...
At least for next summer , pant vs Jimmy another contest. What else cricket fans want
He has to get nine wickets in this test to go past Warne, was hoping he'd play until he'd overtaken but not going to happen now
I heard that Jimmy is being forced by ECB and Brendon to take retirement as they want to try out some new players
He's forced to retire
@@CRICULTS why man Jimmy can still play for 2 years and retire at next ashes if England still uses rotation policy for Jimmy and keep him fresh and injury free
What Sachin is for India in the same way Jimmy is for England
Bcci/ any coach didn't forced Sachin to retire even when India had Kohli/Rohit to take Sachin spot in the team.
I don't think England have quality bowlers who can replace in Jimmy
Forcing him to retire is a massive mistake in my opinion. He could've easily broken Sachin's Test played record if they allowed him to continue because I have no doubt he'll still be good enough to fit into the best England XI and he'll be fit enough to do so as well.
@@rangergaming8316 Yes He could have broke the most tests played by a player and being a bowler it would have a unique and unbreakable record held by him and I don't think it's a good idea for coach or board to force a player to retire
Cricket ball feel blessed when jimmy touch it .
Was ineffective last summer in the Ashes and decent in India but it is high time he left. They need to look forward. In years to come people will not believe a fast bowler will play 20 years! Go well Jimmy
Who would you suggest is better than Jimmy?
Why doesn’t he just do the series and beat warnes 708
If Dale Steyn was not injured frequently, he would have challenged Jimmy's record imo
South Africa won’t ever play enough tests for that to happen
What you have to remember is that Anderson played test cricket home and away continually twelve months of the year every year and it an amazing feat that he did that for so long. Steyn on the other hand generally only played test cricket from September to April, having a break from May to Sept. He only played full years on two instances when he toured England and he broke down both times during those years.
Thing is that if he's good enough to get ten wickets at Lords, he really ought to be picked for the second test.
ECB oversold Anderson. Absolutely no reaction from any former players, shows Jimmy became irrelevance
Ooooo Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy 😍
Many of the younger players are very fast but aren't always as accurate or economical as Jimmy and they are prone to injury
And Anderson still makes the team on merit for Lord's
How does Jimmy know he'll be selected for Lords?
Nass looking more and more like Mr Burns from the Simpson.
Like Terry Alderman he was great in England only.
He should have retired years ago. His performances have not been world-class for a few years, despite what he claims. At least, he will go down as an England great and a legend which is what he deserves for his service
Why not just retire after the test series ?
England did their best to destroy JA by trying to get him to remodel his action, much as they did by trying to get Broad to be the 'enforcer'.
