I remember before this Test, England lost a Test match against Sri Lanka with 1 ball left and Anderson was the last man out and he was so dejected, He made a point to prove him with the bat and he delivered.

But I'm fan enough to admit that he had a horrible test series in England back in 2014. Also proud about the fact that he redeemed himself in 2018 becoming the highest run scorer, because he is the KING!

That series was a bizarre for Kohli. He said in an interview that everytime he woke up, he knew he was not going to survive for longer time in the crease. After 5 years, the recent new zealand tour is the one Virat Kohli will hope to forget.

It amazes me when Stuart broad is put at number 11 and Jimmy at 10 we have someone with a ton to his names at 11 and someone who almost got a ton at 10. We all like to a bowl score runs especially when the batsmen fail.

I had just started my undergraduation that year and India was just clueless the entire series. It followed a tough 18 month period post this whenever they travelled.
That was 2011 series you are talking about. India actually dominated England in first 2 matches in this series which was played in 2014. And just about 4 months later we nearly chased down 360 in Adelaide batting on the final day. And in 2014/15 Australia tour we had our moments but we just did not capitalize on it. Poor umpiring decisions added to the misery as well.
@@nilayshah683 No, I was referring to the 2014 series actually, India won the second test, and they lost 3 on the trott. Also, I remember the Australia series post that, India was comparatively better than what they were in the England Series.
The 2011 though was a tough period again in England, also I guess in 2014 India lost badly to Newzealand as well, the series where Mcculum got a 302.
Again in New Zealand we had our moments. We could've won that Auckland Test had a lower order batted sensibly. We could've completely outplayed New Zealand in the Wellington Test had McCullum not played that innings
Since 2013 South Africa series every match we had our moments to capitalize on but we didn't do what was required at that point. 2011-12 India just looked clueless and had simply no idea about what they were doing

I remember this game and this series was the first test of 2014 INVESTEC test series india scored close to 450 runs in first innings but the highlight of the test came in 2nd lastover of the match when cook got the wicket of the man who had made him his bunny(Ishant Sharma)while bowling in style of late Bob Willis

People who keep cursing Dhoni for the 2014 series, Shami, Ishant and Bhuvi were all pretty young and inexperienced. I think this were their first tours to Eng.
Now we are reaping rewards for that selection.
@Cricket Fandom Nope. He has clearly stated many times that the fast bowlers were very tough to handle cos they broke faster. He infact had to push Ishant to bowl short balls in 2014 Lords win because Ishant was not ready to do that.
Whoever you see now except Bumrah were picked and persisted by DHoni. Now we are seeing the fruits.
@Cricket Fandom Not really. Bhuvi was misused most by Kohli. Bhuvi did very well under Dhoni. And after Ishant's first burst into cricket he had lot of injuries after 2011 etc , missed 2015 WC and then he stopped bowling fast. Infact Ishant changed his action and speed as late as 2017 I think. Shami was raw and wayward. Also its a myth that DHoni used 2 spinners overseas. He had either Ash or Bhajji playing, just one spinner. Dhoni tried lot of pacers like Varon Aron, RP Singh etc. The issue at that time was we had a very young pace attack and Dhoni had introduced selection based on fitness around 2011. Zak missed entire series due to injury. It was only after 2013 or so we had specific fitness coaching camps, diet regimes for pacers. Those results started bearing fruit later.
But I do accept he was not best at field placements in Tests. But again, our pacers were not lethal or fit. That could have been a reason behind it.
