  • This is Peggy. He has pretty much no feet. But he is full of life and confidence and doesn’t seem to let his handicap stand in his way. He inspires me. He is usually shy but sometimes he will eat from my hand like this time!

    Awwwh what a trooper 🥺 a lot of pigeons get litter like string or hair stuck on their feet and it ends up making their toes fall off. That’s probably what happened to poor Peggy, it’s sad that you haven’t seen them in a while :[

      yeah, totally. i ran into a friend on the street who often feeds pigeons and he was holding one. he called me over to help him out. he held the pigeon while i used a small scissor to cut some sort of thread around its' foot. it was a perfectly timed synchronicity.
      i've also seen many in the neighbourhood as well with that on their feet but i wouldn't be able to help them on my own.
      wherever Peggy is let's send him love

    I used to feed a handicapped pigeon too. I called him Puffy because he was always round and fluffy! Because his toes were damaged, my balcony became one of the safest places for him. He was a unique bird indeed. He loved to watch my family doing stuff or to observe things on the outside from the height of the balcony, being on the warm sun and... To simple be around and listen to me talking and being next to him. Puffy was a shy, but very loyal and friendly birb. I fed him for many, many years, but one day he just didn't come back, so... Wherever he is now, I hope he is safe, resting well and living his best fluffy life. I feed a lot of unique pigeons on my balcony, but Peggy also reminds me of my main pigeon friend Sir Fatlock. He is a very big and strong adult pigeon from the main lineage of pigeons I used to feed for years too. Peggy looks somehow similar to him in the front view.✨
    Thank you for feeding such a cute pigeon. They are amazing, and I am very happy to see many people around the world appreciating and caring for them.

    makes me feel say when I see birds like this around here, but when people feed them like you, it makes me feel so happy. I also try to feed as many as I can. I always felt that society is a reflection in how the animals are doing, specifically pigeons. When people are healthy the pigeons are also. Bless everyone.

      I've been feeding and looking after them for about 8 years, including the string and hair problem around the toes. I keep a tiny dental pick, some very small surgical scissors, tweezers, and an exacto knife in a little pouch along with either peroxide or Neosporin. Sometimes it's hard to get all of it off of their toes especially if it's been on there for a while, but when you get rid of it and disinfect the area if it was bleeding, you can see the look of relief on their faces when they get circulation back in their feet.

    • @MeditationThought
      @MeditationThought ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jpalberthoward9 amazing. I try here but it is very hard to get the string off, especially in winter. I also notice the ones that have it bad are extra careful in not being caught since they think they are being purposely targeted (they are but for good reason) -- maybe prey mentality since injured ones get picked up first. So I often can't but a few I have. I just wanna say keep it man! Bless you! I see many with one leg or only a few toes, and I just feed them as much as I can.

    If you want to get string off their feet you need a small towel, like a hand towel, you catch the pigeon then wrap them in the towel like a burrito (it'll take practice) but it doesn't need to be tight, they'll immediately stop struggling and you can take your time cutting string off their feet.

    • @citycritteradventures7427
      @citycritteradventures7427  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a nice idea. When in the towel, I could then use one hand to hold the burrito and one hand to cut the string. It’s hard to hold them yourself and do a task!

    • @xaiano794
      @xaiano794 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@citycritteradventures7427 you don't need to hold them, you can rest the burrito bird in your lap. They are smart and won't struggle even though it isn't tight as they know they are stuck.
      That way you can use both hands as it can be very tricky getting it off their feet.

    How the pigeon lost its leg and why so we can avoid that ??
    How will it survive this disabilities in wild ??
    It needs to be adopted

    • @CompassionateCoos
      @CompassionateCoos ปีที่แล้ว +4

      pigeon lose their legs because people don't dispose of their hair in their brush correctly, these lumps of hair are traps. Their feet get stuck in it then the more they try to get rid of it, or they walk with it, the more the hairs just cut their toes or feet. You can help by finding pigeons with hair in their feet, catching them and removing the hair.

      As I remember Peggy did pretty well for the 2 years I knew him. But it must be hard. He’s definitely not one who would have liked being adopted or taken in. He liked his freedom and wildness, even if he had to endure it without both feet. That being said I always tried to help him out.

    yeras ago a pigeon walked into my flat as if it was normal and 'asked' for food, few days later she threw the empty bowl over my balcony till i feed her, it was really noisy. at least she brought her buddys and my balcony was full of pidgeons, two of them tried to build a nest, at night mouses came to steal the food (2nd floor balcony). a mess and chaos, neighbours complaint about the noiselevel and pigeondung, i stopped feeding them, they left....nowadays im breeding herbs on my balcony

      I hear you. My parents also found themselves hostage to the large army of pigeons, house sparrows and squirrels that would come into their 1st floor balcony. It soon turned into a nightmare. The balcony was covered with poop and the neighbours weren’t happy.
      I find it’s better for me if I feed them in public, outdoors. I chase them and make noise when they come on the balcony. Not because I don’t want them there, but rather because I don’t want to clean layers of poop all week.
      Gotta learn to set boundaries and say no, even if they are fricking cute
