Fasting is where its at folks in my experience both for weight loss and other reasons . I wasnt much overweight (8-14lbs) but I had developed arthritis in my ankle and shoulder 3.5 years ago and because I had seen my grandfather destroy his stomach with arthritis tablets I decided to research other options . Enter fasting: (7days straight) Results almost right away, stiffness went away and joints returned a good bit. Not going into the technical reasons for this but googling autophagy will fill in the blanks. 7 days might seem like a tall order and it is. I only did it the one time I was desperate. Mostly I do 1,2 or 3 days . You dont need medical supervision unless you have underlying issues, people have been doing this for thousands of years and probably for good reason. Weight loss: Simple math, 3500 is a lb of fat. A man (sry just using man as example!) uses 2500 to maintain his body which is about 70% of 3500 , therefore 7/10 of a lb in weigh loss any day you dont eat or about 5lbs in a week which I can verify is about what I lost. This method would definitely suit the more impatient types (like myself) and also I liked getting the pain of depriving myself of my favorite food out of the way all at once. Lots of other benefits which can be researched, immune system , blood pressure, type2 diabetes avoidance , mind clarity. One last thing, you will get better at it by doing it. I found myself very weak the first time but now I can function well for a couple of days with very little hunger or weakness. Thanks for reading.
I have lived this way for years. I am 52. I lost my gut, and feel great. It also eats up cancer cells, when there is little food in system, also damaged cells..
I’ve been doing this, following Dr Mindy’s “Fast like a girl” book. Fasting in line with your hormonal cycle. So I’ve been doing the 36 hour fasting (one day eat, next day don’t eat) just after I get my period, until ovulation, (in about 10 or so days) then l take a break for 5 days with shorter fasts (skip breakfast) then no fasting the week before period. So far I’ve lost 14 kilos in 3 months. I think l look younger, feel way more energised (especially when fasting) and mentally much more positive and upbeat. I’m 50, peri menopausal, have PCOS and Lipoedema and I can believe how the weight is shifting. I’ve not felt this kind of control over my body for a long time, and seen results. I highly recommend, even just one 36 hour fast a week.
@@hiddeninchrist4273 Lipoedema is a genetic, chronic condition characterized by the abnormal accumulation of fat cells, typically in the legs and sometimes in the arms. It predominantly affects women and is often misdiagnosed as obesity. This condition can cause pain, tenderness, swelling, and bruising in the affected areas. Unlike regular weight gain, lipoedema fat is resistant to diet and exercise. complications are lymphedema and mobility issues. Treatment often includes compression garments, lymphatic drainage massage, and surgical interventions like water assisted liposuction.
Lipedema (lipoedema to my British friends) is essentially a dysfunction of the lymphatic system. Lymph fluid seeps into fat cells, making them hard, lumpy, and bigger. It usually happens in legs so if you’ve ever seen someone with a small top but big bottom, that’s usually because they have lipedema. Calorie restriction doesn’t touch it and there are anorexics who still have large legs. I was able to get liposuction (the only known treatment to reduce it), but I have noticed ADF and its hormonal support really helps, too.
I am fasting every other day and eat a whole food plant based diet. I look 10-15 years younger. People don’t believe me when I tell my age. My young nieces are in their early 20s and when I go out with them people think we are the same age. When I noticed aging, I switched gears from low carb to lots of fruits veggies and whole grains. I cured my asthma and allergy medication dependency with a whole food plant based diet. Now I added fasting to them equation and it is a miracle! I did fasting and keto in the past with no improvement.Try it and you will be amazed! Oh also I lost the last 10 pounds that I could not lose with keto and fasting. I lost it with whole food plant based diet. I am feasting every other day on seasonal fruits, veggies, home made sourdough bread, curries and rice and beans. Love this lifestyle!
Why? The healthiest blue zones in the world eat lots of grains. We have the data to show this. The longes-living, healthiest places in the world eat lots of whole plant foods.

I did this in highschool. Skipped breakfast and lunch. Typically started eating once I got home (anywhere from 3-6pm) til dinner. I was pretty miserable back then but I wasn't really eating the best stuff and I was also pretty active. I can do 36:12 pretty easily now.
The thing is about the 36 hour fast you're asleep for 14-16 hours of it so you only need the willpower to get through 20 hours not eating. I'm 23 hours into it now, about to sleep and when I wake up I'm so excited to eat! I've not been hungry all day and I can do cardio in the gym for more than double the time.
I used to sleep 4-6 hours during the week go to bed at 10pm Friday wake at 12 noon Saturday not eat go back to bed at 10pm get up noon Sunday. That way I could catch up on my sleep, fast 38 hours and only be awake for 10.
I've been doing 36-hour fasts for about a month and it's not too difficult. I almost liked the video. I couldn't disagree more with the recommendations to stay away from meat and eat only vegetables. Eat meat or eat vegetables but stay away from carb-loaded snacks. Junk food causes inflammation, not meat.
Did my first 36 hour fast recently. At 24 hours I started to feel weak and was slightly dizzy. I had some electrolytes and rested. Almost stopped the fast. Glad I didn't. I feeling of well being came over me after 20 minutes and continued for the next 4 hours. Went to bed and woke up the next day and had breakfast at the 37 hour mark. Can't wait to do my next one and then 48 hrs in a month.
The best thing about fasting is, you can literally eat anything after you fast for over 36 or 40 hours, and your metabolism also works faster because it can finally keep up with the calories intake. But regardless, keep eating healthy most of the time.
I would recommend going a bit easy on the stomach if fasting for more then a day, go for something that isnt hard to digest like yogurts or a smoothie 1st.
It depends on who you are. I’ve done alternate day fasting, and have been extremely successful when eating low carb or a ketogenic diet. When I eat whatever I want, I have not lost anything and I’ve also gained weight.
this is my first time fasting! im at the 50 hr mark and will be going to bed soon. this was surprisingly easy because i eat out of boredom and get extremely strong cravings.
I usually do omad , I'm just finishing my first 36 hour. I feel GREAT! The only issue is my wife,( who eats every 4 hours) says it's not good to fast. I will continue this root as I feel awesome, loose weight, more clarity. Everyone out there doing fasting.....KEEP IT UP!
I dont ask my doctors about fasting I rather ask my self If I can do it cause they will not agree. For the simple reason that they wont earn a living if I stay healthy. Fasting is good especially for ones health and pockets!
True the doctor once told me I need to eat or I will die. Yeah, uh more like if I keep seeing you I will die sooner. I ignored her and continued fasting every other day.
If you fast, you reap the health benefits, and it's free. So there's no profit for physicians pushing pharmaceuticals. Hmm, I wonder why they're opposed to it? It's financially better for the "healthcare" industry that you remain sick. That's certainly been my experience of western medicine.
This doctor has no idea what she is talking about. You can tell she hasn’t researched much on the long term effects of fasting like autophogy. She then talks about a plant based diet that’s no high in sugar and carbs. Doctors are the least trained in nutrition. She doesn’t look for herself and most doctors aren’t. These kind of “experts “ just make me angry. If you don’t have the knowledge then don’t speak on that subject!
I had my meal a few hours ago after doing a 48h fast. One meal and I’m doing another 48h, it get easie. I’ve Been doing this for almost a week Since Sunday and today is Thursday) to cleanse and get back into ketosis. It’s awesome! I will be doing only 24h one meal after I loose another 5lbs... 8 down as of today 😎
I fast 36/12. I once did so consistently for an entire month and I could break fast with a whole pizza and not even look bloated after. Stomach flat !! So I am taking it up again.
In two hours I will reach an incredible milestone of fasting for 100 hours. 4 entire days with no food. I'm about to go to bed so I'll easily gap past this hour and will break my fast at noon for lunch tomorrow. I've lost about 22lbs in the past 3 weeks with various forms of ADF.
I lost nearly 50 pounds no lose skin and did alot of heavy weights for the last 3 years, i have kept my high school jeans size and big muscular physique due to prolong fasting.
I do anywhere from 16 to 72 hours fasts and eat a carnivore diet every week. I was considered a type 2 diabetic and I no longer am a diabetic. Been doing this for the last 5 months steadily.
@@Christy-Salt not necessarily true that 'improved' metabolism results in weight loss. Getting fat / gaining weight is a normal function of a healthy body. Unsatisfactory metabolic state - like cancer or diabetes result in weight loss including wasting
How does not eating for a day sound extreme? Has our society really come to this 🤣😂🤣 I have been doing a mix of IF, OMAD, and ADF and love it!!! it works too.
Our society is conditioned to 3 meals a day plus snacking all day. That has been ingrained for generations literally. The last time the nation might have had a different mentality was the Great Depression. And you can guess why people were fasting then.
It's the only diet that works for me really. I hate those diets where you have to eat 5 times a day. Ugh I have no time for that!! Fasting is so much simpler and effective and it can actually become a lifestyle. I encourage everyone to give it a try. I fast once per week for 36 hours. You can lose around 2 lbs per month by just doing that, it doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me, it accumulates and in the long run you see the results. If you want to boost the weight lost you can add the 16:8 and/ or incorporate exercise to your daily routine
In India, we are practicing it for millennia. It is really NOT new research by any means. It is just what is called an "empirical verification" of already existing knowledge and a widely practiced methodology.
The trick is to work your way up slowly. I'm doing the 36 hours every other day. No way could I have started with that. I started 16/8 ,for a few weeks
It was actually easier for me to do ADF. I had been attempting 18:6...but never got to 18 hours. Now I know I am all or nothing and can be more effective on my health journey.
I was with that nutritionist up until she said plant-based diet. there are certain vegetables that are also inflammatory to the body, especially joints! so I turned to death ear when she started encouraging eating vegetables and staying away from animal based products. I am a meat eater. and I know people that lived a full healthy life by eating meat along with vegetables.
She mispoke and missed an opportunity re educating around 36 hr fasts and exercise. Check out Thomas Delauers videos. He details the science of benefits to exercising in a fasted state.

I eat a lot of home made meals now fresh fruits veggies fish I avoid salt and I exercise more now than I have in 4yrs! Back pain is also gone! Do it!
The way I understand it, it's NOT a calorie-reduction that is the key with fasting, it's having NO calories for a period of time so your body goes into autophagy & is forced to use its fat stores for fuel. Simply reducing calories has been shown to Slow Down the metabolism, which is counterproductive to weight-loss and over all health goals. I’m inclined to think that the plant based diet studies looked at people who ate meat with lots of carbohydrates, if they were to study plant based diets versus people who ate meat and very low carb 50 grams per day or less the study would not have concluded that plant based is better. Also, grass fed beef, pasture raised chicken etc is also much better.
Absolutely! People who eat meat often eat all the stuff that usually comes with meat (bun, potato, French fries, milkshake, fruit, breading). Very rarely are you getting someone who eats a steak or burger with no bun and a side of broccoli or salad OR just plain meat and that’s it.
So after she tells me to fast and how beneficial it is, she tells me not to fast because I’m an athlete or a busy parent. In my case both. Cmon lady why fold that easy. Fasting is tough but not that tough that it’s impossible if you have kids or workout smh. Everyone has kids 🤦🏽♂️
Now over 72 years old, I never go to ANY licensed medical practitioner fk em salve drivers, now barely any supplements bs, and intermittent and esp long term fasting is my medicine the past decade. Plus exercise, like daily ashtanga yoga, weekly high altitude hikes to 14k, and a blue zone based 120 gm protein diet, with home made no salt, no vinegar (uncooked) ferments. Life before grasping the sugar demons by their horns, until they surrendered, was the toughest lesson ever. These demons gave me crippling pain in the left hip, lower back and neck, asthma and fogged brain. Decades of it. Never had a weight issue, but chronic inflammation. Serrapeptase to clean out and microcurrent biofeedback helped restore cellular voltages. I fast 18/6 or better and a 40 hour fast each week. Just fast, its fastest bestest way to live way beyond 100.
As hunter gatherers for a couple of million years it was feast or famine. We are designed to do this. Recent developments in science and industry are doing us so wrong.
I agree, plant protein is not bio digestible to sustain you. Our top soil is seriously depleted, meaning people aren't getting the vitamins/minerals they think they are.
I always intermittent fast and I like to do a longer fast of 36-40 hrs every couple of weeks. It's become easy to do so I'm looking to work up to a longer water fast of 4-5 days. I feel great after fasting. Have lots of energy to workout and I avoid processed food and sugars.
I completed 7 days of dry fasting and lost 8 kilograms (approximately 17.64 pounds). My longest and most spiritual fast was 35 days, consisting of only coconut, water, and water. During this period, I lost 14 kilograms (approximately 30.86 pounds) in 5 weeks. And it was not only about the weight! It gives me peace and calm. I was able to connect to my higher self and could trust life. I feel like a total different person, when I’m changing my food addictions/habits. It’s so helpful to be aware of this powerful medicine what actually good should be. 🫶 today I’m at my day 4 of dry fasting and later I’m gonna start with water and Elektrolyte and after I’m gonna go into intermitting fasting. 🙏
I wish people would stop referring to fasting as a diet. It's that kind of lingo that has people start this up the wrong way. Fasting is just creating a window for eating, and giving your body a break the rest of the time so it can have time to rejuvinate. People can lose, gain, or maintain their weight during a fasting protocol. It's not only folks with weight-loss goals who fast because that's not the main purpose for it. Having an understanding of insulin and what happens during the different stages of fasting can help people achieve their goals, but they need to understand what they're doing so they're not just starving themselves and then binge eating after.
I have been on a 2 week fast for 5 days. I thought I would be craving and starving and really sick. The opposite has happened. I think so much more clearly. I have more energy. Aches and pains are almost gone. I was very hesitant about doing it. I have health issues. I hope this makes a difference.
I workout during my 72 hour fast. The key is what kind of workout? you keep intensity levels moderate. I have experimented with HITT and Tempo run/cycling during 72 hour fasts. You get very little results from a hard workout during a 72 hour fast but a ton of benefits if you keep heartrate steady and below 80% of max rate.
interesting .....i was wondering about that issue.. what kind of activity is good during a fast....so below 80 percent of max rate? coolest comment worth looking into...

Forget doctors, I tried it and I feel better and more energetic than before. I conditioned myself to eat once a day. But I feast and chow down. I lost 25 lbs and still losing
I can speak from experience that the ADF had no negative effects, caused me to loose 16 kg in 6 weeks and had a positive effect in the overall desire for food after the 6 weeks period getting a "full" sensation after eating way less than what i did prior. (for reference on the 'fasting\ days I ate about 250 grams in a 36 hour period to be able to function normally at work)
I've been carnivore no grains, carbs alcohol, sugar, cooking oils since 12 April, lost over 4 stones! Reversed my fatty liver, pre diabetes, gum disease. I can read the small print without glasses. A proper human diet, ancesttrally appropriate, requiring few or no supplements as meat based is more nutrient dense and is what our species was built for. Mental fog and anxiety and depression I've suffered with y eating carbs sugar pizza etc completely gone so much happier more energy and alert on meat based than any plant based diets I e tried previously!
The body does not have a mechanism to count calories but is regulated by hormones like insulin. Insulin is a fat storing hormone. Eating high carbohydrates like pizza and sugar (junk food) spike insulin levels which tells the body to lay down more fat. Doing this would negate any gains achieved by fasting. Dr. Jason Fung is my reference for this information and it makes good clinical sense.
Fasting feels strange the 1st time you try it and it can be hard if you do it the wrong way (eating terribly before you do it) but it gets so much easier if you continue to do it on a regular basis, even small fasts at the start like skip lunch etc it just gives your body a chance to get rid of toxins and fix cells that need it too.

Intermittent fasting just means don't constantly eat. And this doctor didn't even mention insulin resistance or growing type2 diabetes problem. Unless you have an eating disorder or have a very low BMI no one dies from missing a few meals.
Grass fed grass finished meats are non inflammatory omega 3 meats. USDA Choice meat animals are fed corn, grains, oats and are inflammatory omega 6 meats. I don’t feel a statement that red meat is inflammatory is a fair statement. It does not address any difference in what the animals eat.

Unlike regular weight gain, lipoedema fat is resistant to diet and exercise. complications are lymphedema and mobility issues. Same! I have lipedema too and the only thing that touches it is ADF fasting.
Are you still doing the same?! Your words encouraged me for 36 hrs fast. Thank you 😊
Leave grains alone

@U Haul speak english much?
Yup same thing with me I’m at 22 hours and I’m about to go to bed and wake up to eat GREAT!
@U Haul ali g?

I've done this many times..It's not that difficult.. Really believe me you fill great in these fasting hours.

38 hours into my fast and once you get over the initial hunger phase its gets easier. My mind is more clear and I am not hungry at all
fasting is not designed to reduce weight, it is to improve metabolism
This is a great important point
Improving metabolism results in weight loss. This is splitting hairs really.
What benefits did you get ?
It's the only diet that works for me really. I hate those diets where you have to eat 5 times a day. Ugh I have no time for that!! Fasting is so much simpler and effective and it can actually become a lifestyle. I encourage everyone to give it a try. I fast once per week for 36 hours.
You can lose around 2 lbs per month by just doing that, it doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me, it accumulates and in the long run you see the results.
