Nice one, when I was a Cub Scout leader we would teach the cubs how to start camp fires out the back of our hut, using Vaseline soaked cotton wool balls a fero rod and a striker to start the fire, they loved it. The fire starting kit all fitted into a small tin which was sealed using a piece of bicycle inner tube to secure the lid. Once the cotton wool balls caught the rubber inner tube could be used to keep the fire going while adding sticks.
Absolutely fantastic vlog Buck. I love the reviews. I love the aussie dunking the biscuit amongst the tea leaves! The flint and fire was the highlight! ♨️. You are such a good storyteller. I felt emotional and very proud watching each little piece of the pack that might somehow support a digger in distress or as a moral booster. Thank you. ❤️🐕❤️❤️🇦🇺🦘
Well done Buck you reminded me of Les Hiddins the Bush tucker man x army major did you ever x paths. Still look at his shows love them.keep the cooking clips coming there great.
G'day buck loved the drone footage I've got a mate up your way who i rent from he's living at Trinity beach and works at Bunnings now i think it might be Cairns im not sure but like the taste tests of rations vids look forward to the next one 👍
Stunning drone footage and what a georgous beach!!! Too bad those snapping cowboy boots won't let you go in the water. That would make for an unforgetible campsite you'd want to return to again and again. Especially if you got there with the boat. Well thought out survival kit. When I was in Scouts, Rovers and camp councellor. We put a razor blade into our survival tins. It's exactly that. A blade. It's very sharp and the blade is covered tightly in carboard. Which you can put back onto the blade when you're done using it. If you were careful removing it in the first place. It was safe to store and handle but being a razor blade. Once you removed the cardboard, you had a very good sharp blade for cutting. For whatever reason, you may find yourself without a knife. This was backup. I would think a small button compass would be a good addition to that Air Force kit. I know you plan to have one already on you but sometimes circumstances occur. If you polish the inside of that lid with the scouring pad. You should be able to make it shiny enough to reflect sunlight to signal with. Try it with the supplied scouring pad. Why the inside of the lid isn't made that way in the first place I don't know. My best guess is a cost/benefit thing. Afterall, how often is someone actually going to need to even use one of these in an emergency? How many of those few are going to need to use the lid to reflect sunlight to signal with? It may simply be too much effort and cost to manufacture a lid with a shiny inside. So someone came up with idea of throwing in a scouring pad. If the inside of the tin is needed for signalling the user can quickly do it. I'm curious. Would there be something on that piece of paper you didn't read(🤣), instructing the user to do just that? If you still have it of course...lol Overall, this is a very well thought out kit. I really like the addition of some high quality snacks. Huge morale booster for sure. You may be in an E&E situation where starting a fire is not an option. As in behind enemy lines, with the enemy tracking you. You're right about food. A healthy person can go a long time without food if you've got water. You may feel like crap and hungry but the will to live and water will keep you going. If you can score shelter, can get a fire going and keep it going. You've really increased your chances of survival. Same stuff we learned in Scouts right there in that tin. Our kits were a little different as they were meant for our uses. Plus they fit in our shirt pocket. We put in a non-lubricated latex condom to store water, some wooden strike anywhere matches, fishing line and hooks, a small plastic bag to store wild edibles as you foraged or travelled, a couple of oxo cubes and some folded up tinfoil. The tinfoil acted as a boiling and drinking vessel once carefully opened and shaped. If you were very careful with it, you could fold, open and reuse serveral times. I think modern tinfoil is too thin and fragile to do this with. At least ours here is. Plus a few other things. Like a tea bag and a sugar packet, a couple of bandaids, small survival whistle, etc. It all fit into a Sucrets tin. Which you would place in your Scout shirt pocket. You must always have it secure on your person when in the bush. In a serious emergency situation. You don't really need a map if you know the general direction of travel to get out. Memorize that and basic details about your area before you go out in case something happens to your map. Remember, you're not usually trying to reach a specific destination. Just out and help. Follow your button compass bearing and keep it away from anything metallic. Really fantastic clip Buck. I found it very, very interesting. It was great to see what a different organization see's as requirements for survival. Congrats on getting your fire going first try with that awesome bit of firelighting kit.👍 Looking forward to seeing the flint and steel used in anger again.
Mate we just got back from a cook up and Lukey used the flint in anger. He got it third go. I don't bother with fishing line in my survival kits!!!! lol
Great show with the AIF ration box. Love your fire that started 1st time with the fluffed up cotton. Q: If full of Vaseline, would the fire start 1st time as easily ? Or would it be more difficult to start using that same method ?
The reason for pulling the flint backwards is so you don't run the risk of h ittong the tonder you are trying to ignite. Graham Cahill teaches it this way.
It’s been about 30 years since I’ve been there but I thought you were at Mission Beach for a second. My favourite beach on earth 😍 Edit: I’m way off 😂 I’m going to say that you’re just next to Ella Bay rd.
Hey that looks like Ella where l store all my stolen stuff, talking about RAAF l just taught this 74 young ex RAAF man the world is a mans urinal,l converted him giving him a flour container so he could use it when his up in his roof top tent. My advise to you young felahs is the Woolworths flour containers are the best investment you can get. My only good advise is don't mix them up with the apple juice containers.
Always entertaining buddy, very interesting 👍🏿 had me nearly in tears when the tbag broke & u whinged about it, cracked me up, I love a great laugh
That teabag must have been made in China mate. POS!!! lol
Hi Buck. For a fire lighter, instead of cotton balls, I use the lint out of the clothes dryer. 👍
20 mins from home , how good is that . great vid..🤠 🐕.🏖 🐊

Yes vaseline on cotton wool balls works really well. I got some and soaked them in citronella oil. Works great also.

Well done Buck you reminded me of Les Hiddins the Bush tucker man x army major did you ever x paths. Still look at his shows love them.keep the cooking clips coming there great.
No mate unfortunately I never got to meet Les. That guy knew his stuff.

Yes mate Trinity Beach is North of Cairns. One of the Northern beaches. Very nice and a good hotel there.

Great video mate you had me in stitches
Great clip Buck, yeah hot day Hot drink. I know it sounds strange but a hot cup of black tea is very nice.
Bloody hell Buck, thought you were alright till you dunked 🥵😂😂
Hey Buck, you possibly need to use that scourer after you have been using the hand full of leaves....probably bring tears to your eyes, though. 😅
🤣
07:05 the RAAF once trialled dehydrated water for their emergency ration packs. All they had to do was add water.
🤣
👍👍👁️👁️😎😇❤️🙏 I’d definitely have to find a spot to tuck away the fire striker .
29:45 Bucks giving the old “oh ya can live off it, but it tastes like shit” Mick Dundee look 😂
🍻🍻🇦🇺
It wasn't the nicest tasting thing I have tried.
Great show with the AIF ration box.
Love your fire that started 1st time with the fluffed up cotton.

Not sure mate. I reckon they would still light OK.

As a collector I can never find these online to buy, harder to get hold of than a set of DPCU or DPNU wetsuit.
It’s been about 30 years since I’ve been there but I thought you were at Mission Beach for a second. My favourite beach on earth 😍
Edit: I’m way off 😂
I’m going to say that you’re just next to Ella Bay rd.
Yes mate that is Ella Bay.
@@Mrbuckaroonie.. Cheers mate 🍻🍻🇦🇺
It's a wonder they don't put some multi vitamins in the pack. at least you would get your daily allotment of essentials if you didn't have any food.
Who misses space food sticks? Bring them back I say!
Ha Yes! SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE - Cups Canteen Steel FOLDING!
All that sugar and you'll be flying home! LOL
