Let’s send Tama the message and buy up all these kits. They need to remain a staple in their lineup forever with all size options available. I sold all my gear to obtain two of these beauty’s!
There's a method to why they only released a certain amount of kits. To basically see if they will sell well. If it does, then they'll make more. If it doesn't, then that's it for that vintage series..
Echoing similar words to what's been said already: if you guys had a 13x9/16x16/24x14 shell pack (or at least available as add-ons with maybe an 18x16 floor tom), I would unironically do everything to save up the money and buy them ON THE SPOT. Admittedly a bit bummed that the size options are so limited, ESPECIALLY for something that I would easily consider a "Forever Kit", but for those who play 10/12/16/22, I'm super-stoked for them!
From Billy Cobham, to Stewart Copeland, Simon Phillips, and Neil Peart... The Superstar series (especially the late 70s re-ringed models) are my dream kit along with the Star Walnut!
You're kidding me right?! Only those sizes?! Come on Tama.. Please: reissue the whole line up with xtra sizes!! (Power toms!!) .. I'm sure you can do it! I promise: I'll buy a whole 10 pieces set!!
Great job and you're on to something great here Tama. In 83 when I was 20 I ordered a custom Super Star cherry wine, gigged with it extensively for 14 yrs, sounded and recorded great; super strong held up well no issues always got compliments... My only suggestion here Tama is that you offer this in a virgin bass drum and a standard 13" tom & 18" fl tom be available to order so some of us are not pigeon hold, not to mention that would round it off and not be over the top on your end with all sorts of sizes. Peace
I’ve played Tama 40 yrs. 1st kit 5pc Swingstar 2nd kit 5pc Superstars in Candy Apple Red. 12 13 16 18 24 Noble Cooley solid Snare. Lastly my current BB StarClassic 10 12 14 16 22 61/2 I’ve also had a Collectors series’s DW And I’ll take the Superstars all day
I played a friends superstar back in 90s it was a birch doublebass kit had serious tone. But it was super maple finish but had birch shells. I know it was just a name for the finish. I glad youve came so far Tama. The strongest name in drums.
Those drum kits have a phenomenal low end and projection, specially the toms, from my own perspective, in high tuning, the sound is killer, great and innovative hardware. The first drummer I saw and heard playing the brand was Liberty De Vitto with Billy Joel, and the second one, the magic and revolutionary reggae/rock fusionist, the master Stewart Coppeland with The Police. In only 6 years Tama took the percussive market by a storm, overpassing even legendary names like Premier. Ludwig, Rogers, Slingerland, talking about the Rock scene. Japanese pride and high quality craftsmanship as well. Happy 50TH Anniversary!!.
My first Tama kit was a 1985 Superstar Extras in Cherry Wine (7 piece - 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 24) - way too big to play now and I've moved on from them, after many years off, with the Starclassic Walnut Birch, but the old Superstars still sound amazing, as do these new reissues. I love the deep sound!!
Yeah man, I'm a huge fan of his and Rayford 40 plus years also! Such fantastic drumming and overall fusion sound that band had! After having almost all of JLP's albums I hadn't picked up that one yet depite knowing most of the songs on the album. Finally got it the other day and WOW what a total sound it has despite being 43 years ago when it came out in 1981!
I like how the intro song sounds just close enough to message in a bottle to make you think of Stewart Copeland but not so close as to sound like an exact copy. Well done.
I got rear ended, collected the insurance money, banged the dents out of my car and bought my Tama Superstar Octa Plus drums. It was the first set that Washington Music Center (Chuck Levins) sold in 1978. I always wanted Ludwigs but Tama was offering their drums at a much lower price at that time probally to get them out onto the market. I still have these drums and love them. I recently bought another set of Tama Star drums (never looked back) The only issue I had with the Tama Superstar drums were the lugs started breaking at the mounting screws.
Hi. My vintage Imperialstars have the same lugs, and the mounting posts fracture from time to time. I have a few spares, as well as some vintage "staircase" Swingstar lugs. Actualy, the Swingstar lugs hold up a lot better.
These are seriously cool! It would have been be great if they went totally retro and made the kits with the classic 12" & 13" tom configuration as opposed to the modern 10" & 12" configuration.... It would just marry up a little better with what they're trying to do here.
Maybe I'm biased but it seems I see just as many, if not more, of these kits in the bigger sizes - 24/14/18. It almost seems that's a big part of what this series is known for. Seems a shame not to offer those sizes.
I think it is interesting that they are not using rim mounts, which, of course, were not used back in the day. Makes you question whether or not they really make enough of a difference.
I've often wondered the same thing. These reissues mirror the height of Tama technology and innovation back in the day. It still holds up IMO. I never listen to old Rush or Police recording and think, "Neil and Stewart would sound WAY better with RIMS mounts." 😅 I'm glad they went with the old tom brackets. I have an 80s Imperialstar that I rewrapped, plugged the old tom bracket holes with epoxy, sanded them, and used a speckled paint that is a very good match for Zolacoat. Then I put RIMS mounts on them; really opened up the sound as I sit behind the kit. Through a huge PA system, I really don't think anyone can tell the difference. 😅 I'm sure these reissues will sound amazing "in person," but I hope they offer 9x13, 16x18, & 14x24!
Hey, when they said these were reissues, they meant it, right down to the T-rod handles, the tom brackets, and the old badges. Oh, the pain of catching a finger on the edge of one of those original Tama "T" badges. I think they cut those from razor blades! 😅 As far as the vintage vibe, I like it. Pearl reissued the President series with the old bass drum T-rods, too. It's nice to NOT have to use a drum key, but they make casing the kick a little more tricky.
@@richiecomia2547yes siree bob. That's experience talking right there. I had the big Superstar kit with power toms and 24", and the first time cleaning I cut myself when one of the edges on the badge lifted up. Those points, ouch. From then on those badges to me meant "you better watch it, bud. I'll cut you."
Its a shame that its a limited edition. Great drums should always remain in stock. Every Tama kit that I ever loved was either discontinued or limited. This is the one thing I always hated about Tama.
This is Superstar-cool, however, Tama, if you are really the "Strongest Name In Drums," we're going to need at least 9x13, 16x18 toms, and 14x18, 14x20, & 14x24 kicks. At most, we also need 8x8, 10x14, 12x15, a 14x14 floor, and a 14x16 kick, please!
That Billy Cobham track playing behind his talking, was he playing his Tama kit on that? It sounds more like his acrylic Fibes kit. But, I could be wrong.
I've been hoping to see a 14 inch deep bass drum on a new kit much easier for this 70-year-old to carry and load in and out of the car. I love my 20-year-old Tama Starclassic set in British Racing Green, but the 18-inch deep shell is too big for me.
I own a Tama superstar drum set, and i recently purchased the only Tama 8" tom that was matching my set. But it's original wrapping was stripped, and the drum was painted blue, and my drum is with original black wrap. I searched everywhere and couldnt find a matching collor. Wrote an email to Tama europe, no success, wrote an email to Drumeo, in hopes they could help me out, with a contact email address from Tama drums, no success. Can anyone from the community help me out ?
So Tama.. Are you going to offer power toms, in all sizes?! ..will I have to go on a hunger strike ?! ..or even worst: should I go buy those new Pearl maple with those ugly tom holde.. Wait a minute.. Pearl too have L-rod tom holders now!! :p For real: it would be so nice if you could do so. Thank you Oh.. And I see that this video brought a lot more views and reactions than for the bell brass reissue.. So.. Maybe people really care about those superstar!! (And for sure I'm not the only one who has that request)
I love how Tama includes 2 of some of the best fusion/jazz drummers of all time, yet they offer no 18 or 16 bass drum configurations. Again Tama spits in our face not caring that some of us live in cities and apartments, we do not have the space or time for 22 in bass drums, even though we love them. Many city gigging drummers switched over to gretsch fast because they offer many pro 18 and 16 bass drum configurations, meanwhile tama gives us cheap junk for those sizes, I wish they would actually for once listen and cater to the present day reality of present day musicians and not spit in our face and leave us in the dust.
If they would of offered a 13" or 14" tom i would already be owning a kit.going from 12" to 16" floor tom doent work for alot of us .Nack when these companies went from 12",13" toms they said theres not enough seperation,so they did the 10",12" thing.thats fine if you include a 14" floor tom,but dont jump to 16".it just dont work.
10" and 12" tom sizes only. WTF. ??? Tama where are the sizes we actually want? 12x9 or 12x10... Power toms, larger size toms, 13" 14" 18 FT ??? Oh come on.

I want the Stewart Copeland kit reissue !! That beautiful blue with those octabans. Such a beautiful kit
Please offer more shell packs with additional sizes, like 24" Kick drums, and more rack tom sizes!
Yes and 18 and 16 in bass drums for musicians who actually live in the city and gig amd travel, there's a few thousand of us for sure. We are waiting.
There's a method to why they only released a certain amount of kits. To basically see if they will sell well. If it does, then they'll make more. If it doesn't, then that's it for that vintage series..

Still playing my 82 Superstars!
@@bassdrumcreep7884 Precious! 82 kit ! my model is a Tama Superstar 1986 Piano white still around !

The awe-inspiring sound and magnificent sight.
Maybe you guys should make this a standard offering, but with updated tom holders and more sizes available? I'm really digging that 14" deep kick.
just add the birch shells to sc line as the sc offers the customization
So cool to see Simon Phillips delivering his signature sound and style on a five piece kit…Legend❤

How many of us want to see a Neil Peart replica Superstar candy apple red reissue ….. the whole kit and kitchen sink 👍🙏👌😎🥁
Rayford Griffin's drumming with Jean Luc Ponty was in another stratosphere! Check out Mystical Adventures album! I have had this album for decades!

Purchased my first Tama Starclassic birch bubinga over 6 years ago. The quality of these drums are incredible!
Yeah man. Luv the Superstar line. Happy 50th Tama Drums.
I like how the intro song sounds just close enough to message in a bottle to make you think of Stewart Copeland but not so close as to sound like an exact copy. Well done.

I owned a Tama Superstar in Aqua Marine in my younger days and loved those drums. Plus they looked and sounded amazing! Happy 50th Tama!
Can you imagine if they brought back some of the vintage concert toms?
I got rear ended, collected the insurance money, banged the dents out of my car and bought my Tama Superstar Octa Plus drums. 👉🏻TAMA fan here! 👈🏻
I hope these new finishes are UV protected. I had an aqua kit from 1979 to 2007 or so; turned green on me.
I would have bought one immediately if you would have offered it as two up two down with a 14x14 floor.
The only drummer honoring the craftsmanship of these drums is Simon. He REALLY takes advantage of the openness and resonance of Tama
Happy fiftieth anniversary
Can you re-release Granstar and Artstars???????
I miss this style of Tom mounts. Simple no fuss unlike the starcast versions
Nice!
I would like to see this kit with a 2 0" bass drum.
Please!
We don't want 10 and 12" toms, we want 12x8" and 13x9" inch at least! Otherwise...awesome!
Nice drums, one thing I noticed that I'm not interested in is that to tune the bass drum, you have to turn the tuning rod versus using the drum key.
Hey, when they said these were reissues, they meant it, right down to the T-rod handles, the tom brackets, and the old badges. Oh, the pain of catching a finger on the edge of one of those original Tama "T" badges. I think they cut those from razor blades! 😅
