Gotta love the fact that both Light and L take each of Misa's words for the whole mental gymnastic but don't even bother including her in the equation when counting how many people are eating dinner.
Completely lore accurate though between how much of Light's imprisonment felt like some awkward date between him and L, especially when Light lost his memories, and given how Misa (and women in general not named Naomi) are unfortunately written in the series. I don't even "ship" L and Light (or anyone), but gods damn does Misa come off as like the fourth wheel in a relationship despite technically being Light's beard...er "girlfriend".

Honestly, that's 100% accurate for both of them.
Misa's meal choice wouldn't be relevant in what they were trying to do. L was trying to gauge whether or not light wanted to be alone with misa by baiting him with a small meal. If light fell for this and accepted the smaller meal then that would signify to L that they wanted to be alone. At that point l would never let them be alone even if he didn't know why, does anyone else smell toast?

So if anyone is wondering why Light ended up punching L, he did it because he noticed that Misa obviously wanted to have a change of plans regarding the Baja Blast, as it would garner suspicion towards them both if L suddenly died near them. Misa questioned whether Taco Bell had a Big Mac. A Big Mac is a McDonald product revolving around hamburgers. The hidden meaning here however is that the word "hamburger" comes from the city of Hamburg. Hamburg itself is a municipality in Germany, who were a large power in World War I. World War I was noted to be overly gruesome, especially in the Western Front, where Trench Warfare ran rampant, involving large amounts of CQC, or Close-Quarters-Combat. To further solidify the true meaning Misa was trying to convey, Light thought about the Big Mac itself. Being 2 words and enclosing 7 characters including the space, you can make another phrase that falls within these limitations: "Punch L".

Light mixing up the words "casualty" and causality" to end up in "Baja blast" is the perfect encapsulation of Light's hubris for me.
While it would be, in this case "causality" seems to just be an error in the subtitles. "Baja" means (among other things) "casualty" in Spanish and unless I misheard him, he is still saying "casualty" in the video. It is the subtitles that are wrong.

L's reasoning is impossible, there are too many other possibilities he dismisses as he always gets closer to the actual correct answer because the author said so. "Plot logical reasoning". Similar to sherlock holmes fake reasoning.

It's such a shame that this 3 minute video truly captured what made Death Note so good more than those live action adaptations that pop out of nowhere.
TBH I saw the live-actions and they legit make me want to laugh while also take it seriously. The japanese don't fuck around with Live Actions too much it seems.

I can only imagine the court proceedings with this logic. The judge asks the prosecutor to lay out his case and the prosecutor has to explain that the detective thought someone was Kira because he wanted the detective to spend an extra dollar on dinner.

That is the cheapest attempt at being generous I have ever heard. Especially coming from the guy who owns the high rise they are sitting in. Also, it’s bullshit to offer to get dinner and then ask someone to split something with them. That reveals they aren’t actually making a generous offer, but instead just wanting something for themselves but don’t want to eat it alone for one reason or another. Light was right to be suspicious. If he didn’t complain, it would reveal Light didn’t care about dinner and just wanted L gone.
However, Light fucked up by complaining about the quantity, and not L’s cheapness. L knows Light barely eats compared to him, and would probably just have L’s fries and maybe a nugget. Light should also know that Misa will eat even less of her order, leaving that to be divided between the remaining two. Light complained about the wrong thing, confirming it was all just an act. Which raises his chance of being Kira from 99% to 99.0000001%. Good work L.
