For anybody curious on the wing incident, it was only possible because of 3 factors. The planes massive thrust/speed capacity, large control surfaces and stabilizers, and the fact that the fuselage is a lifting body design. The body of the plane literally generates a little more lift than the wings combined. Which means when it lost the one wing it didn't throw the center of lift WAY off from the center of mass so it didn't slip into an unrecoverable spin from the other wing generating all the lift like most other planes would. But with the lifting body heavily mitigating the lift offset it still needed speed and those large control surfaces to prevent it from slipping into a spin. The large control surfaces give it A LOT of ability to counter act forces on the plane but without enough speed moving large amounts of air over the controls they wouldn't have enough force to counter act things. So all 3 factors were needed here and with any one of these missing the plane wouldn't of been able to recover and continue flying.

Late note: The F-14, F-15, and a few others generate a 30 % of their lift from the fuselage. Also, real world aggressor squadron training between F-22 Raptors and F-15 Eagles showed the Eagles kept killing F-22s in a2a and dogfights. It is also the ONLY fighter aircraft that is not in any movie.
I grew up with an A-10 squadron doing maneuvers over our neighborhood. Coolest warplane ever created, IMO. Needless to say, we felt pretty safe in the late 70s and 80s. Then, it was comforting during 9/11 since we were within a 20 min. plane ride from NYC.
The F-15 may seem small, but with a full combat load it weighs almost 70k lbs. That's an Abrams tank flying through the air! Also, although technology has advanced there's not much that's changed in aircraft design. The F-15 and F-16 are excellent air frames, which is why they've just been upgrading them with new alloy wings, sensors, weapons, radar, and weapons. Plus having a consistent manufacturing system for so long makes it exceptionally cheaper and easier to continue using or making more of. When you've got such an absolutely stellar air frame, unless there's something utterly beyond the line of technological supremacy it's better to use them for general use and have the high tech options for special circumstances or emergencies due to cost. It'd cost 4-10 times as much to use an F-22 compared to an F-15 so unless it's necessary, it's best to use the cheaper incredibly durable and heavily armed option. Plus, it doesn't use stealth because it's used as an open signal of "Hey everyone, we're here so stop whatever you're doing and back off."
The F-15 really is no joke. I worked with a crew chief after he cross trained to my career field in the AF who was assigned to F-15's. Apparently we had a joint training exercise with Canada at one point that pitted F-15s against twice their number of Canadian F-18s. Initial long range missile exchange favored the Canadians taking down half the 15s. The remaining 15s, then outnumbered 4 to 1, closed in for the dog fight and utterly wrecked the 18s without losing any more planes. The 15 is a highly, highly capable plane.
Of course I missed you guys!! So glad you guys are back.😊 He is a great story teller. Virginia Hall the deadliest spy of WWII from his channel is excellent.
The story of its development in reaction to the Foxbat makes it even crazier. The US created it in a haste while soiling their pants over Soviet bragging over what turned out to be a an unmaneuverable interceptor instead of the super-fighter that they supposedly had.
Cool! I actually worked on the F-15 program in 1979 as an Engineering co-op student at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis Missouri. My first co-op semester I worked in the F-15 radar group. I got to go into the factory to see production, and watch them (and F-18 Hornets) fly almost every day. What an experience that was! Love your channel.
I grew up around SAC bases. I've watched a lot of B-52s take off over the years, and I'm still amazed when they finally start to lift and the wings rise and shes gone.
5:30 on the point about military technology, its very true, only now are we seeing commercial augmented reality devices such as the new apple vision pro, but the very same technology had been given to F35 pilots for years earlier
The thing about the F-15 is that it has a very wide body that is shaped so that the body also generates Iift. The aircraft has enough power to generate the speed needed to create the lift needed to stay aloft. The Eagle that landed without it's wing landed at 350 miles per hour in order to retain control. The normal landing speed is 120 miles per hour.
I play golf in Utah by Hill AFB. 2 of the holes run parallel to the runway. I`ve seen these awesome planes take off and indeed, once clear of the runway they shoot straight up and it`s just awesome to see it in person. So cool how they just glide, you don`t hear the roar of the jets until they pass you.
First review video I've watched since you've been back and it's great to see you mates! And Fat Electrician just rocks it with humor and facts. BTW, the F15 scared the crap out of everyone especially the Russians/Soviets back in the day. It was/is just a badass machine.
American Engineers: Here you go guys, the F-16 engine is the most powerful combat jet engine of all time. Have fun. American Generals: Are we just going to put one in there though? Can you draw something up with two?
12:38 Mark! 3.6K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: Amazing! 🎉 Hmm. The F-16 Falcon eventually had "Fighting" added to the name. The F-15 Eagle had "Strike" added. But he didn't mention that. 🤔 Hmm. With cars, people would say something like, "That's a Nineteen-Sixty-Four Ford Mustang and that's a Two-Thousand Ford Thunderbird!" But with airplanes, like he said, the decade an airplane debuted is what is said along with adding a letter after the number. That letter designates the model. 🤔
Not entirely correct. They did not change the name and added “strike” in the name of F-15. What I mean is, not all F-15 are “Strike Eagle”, most of them are just “Eagle”. F-15 originally was just an air superiority fighter. It is made to be the best in the air to air combat. Despite being the best in the air however, it lacks the multirole capability of the F-16. Multirole being it can be deployed in a lot more missions than just asserting air to air dominance. They soon developed a multirole variant of the F-15 called F-15E Strike Eagle. The “strike” being it is now capable of interdicting missions or bombing mission. F-15E Strike Eagle is a multirole variant of the original air superiority F-15 Eagle. Much like when you buy cars, they have sports version or sports variant.
@Somm_RJ ! Ah, thanks for the clarifications! It is too bad that some toys get put out there with misleading names or contradictory names. Thanks for the analogy to cars and trucks! I never thought of it that way before.
The airplanes blowing your mind is the same for me. I grew up close to Norfolk Naval Base. Sometimes you'd catch them practicing dogfighting at lower altitudes. That's when you realize how fast they are. My mind was also blown seeing my dad board an aircraft carrier and it sail away. It's a skyscraper on its side and somehow floats? They're fast, too? Crazy.
As an Air Force veteran, my favorite plane is the SR-71 Blackbird. I was lucky enough to have worked with it. My 2nd favorite airplane is the F15 Eagle. Check out the C-5 Galaxy cargo jet.😊
Planes fly bc of lift, the way the wings are made the air has to travel over the top faster creating a low pressure zone and a high pressure zone on the bottom so the air on the bottom pushes up
I am lucky where I live in America/Arizona... I live on the outskirts of Phoenix (In the Desert) I have Military Jets fly over my house EVERY DAY... Throughout the day.. it's very cool!!
@@johnwray393 I could see that.. it does get loud! lol.. See...I was like that at first.. but I have lived here for 21 years now... guess I am just used to it at this point! haha
If you ever find yourself in Suffolk, RAF Lakenheath, one of the USAF bases there, has a observation area where you can watch their fighters take off. If you're into it, I would highly recommend it.
I've said the same about the fat electrician that he gives me Rob McElhenney vibes as well! Sounds like you might like a visit to the Wrights Brothers museum in Kill Devil Hills, NC if you make it over the pond again!
As TFE says, "It's never a war crime; the first time." I'd say there is at least one incrementally "better" generation of aircraft currently in production. It will be SLOW because they are EXPENSIVE to build. You won't know they're out there until they are needed (See F117 in Panama). The reason things like the F15EX are getting done is because we aren't at the point to need to risk the F22s in "everyday" missions (again, think $$$). What we're doing now doesn't really require full time stealth. It requires a fast, heavily loaded, bomb truck that can defend itself against everything currently on the market AND take over as air superiority if challenged. And there you have it.
@7:15 they actually flew it sideways. Aimed up so the engine could give it some extra vertical push. If they tried to fly it level you are right the wing that was still there would have tried to flip the plane.
Off topic, as a front end developer, thank you for your comment at the end about building a website. When we do our job right, it isn't noticed. Or shouldn't be. So I do I appreciate that.
It is actually called a Strike Eagle. It is a joint strike fighter as it can carry both A/A and A/G loadouts. It is capable of dog fights or long distance bombing raids with the addition of a fuel pod. Beautiful piece of machinery.

That 3,300mile is called the ferry range. We started doing that during WW 2 fuel tanks full but no bombs and gun unloaded to cut drag and weight to a minimum. Then refuel in Greenland or Iceland. A longer range plane, the P-38 or P-51 could make it non-stop if they didn't run into bad weather.
Funny thing is that it flew 10 miles with one wing well it can travel 10 miles in a matter of seconds. If it travels at over 1500 miles an hour that's equivalent to 25 miles per second
F-15 just 1 of a deadly fleet of aircraft you don't want heading your way. Imagine a radar operator seeing a swarm of bumblebees heading towards you of everything from F-15's to F-117's to B-2's all fully loaded.
This is an older vid, so you probably wont see this, but ya'll should have a look at some of the new videos out about the new SR-72... Its just been announced its officially a real project in the works. Being built by Skunkworks. It has to be responsible for some of the ufo sightings! 😂😂
At the time, and maybe still, it was the only aircraft that could accellerate in a vertical climb. In other words, all other aircraft slow down when going straight up, it can accellerate.
When I was a kid in the 80s the elementary school was under the flight path of guys coming and going from Wright-Pat. The F-4s always had us craning our necks up to watch them roar past.
I still can't believe how airplanes in the 1910's were fitted with machine guns that shot *through* the props. No electronics either. How did they time this back then?!? Oh, I'm the opposite of a mechanical engineer, so...
They used a camshaft off of the engine to block the firing mechanism while the prop was in position. However many of the props had plates on the backside to protect them just in case of a hangfire.
I get that part, and thanks, but it's a high-RPM prop and a rapid-fire machine gun for goodness sakes, lol. Calculating the time for the bullet to "beat" the spinning prop blades just blows my mind!@@patricktennant1585
Fun fact, the F-15 was developed because we freaked out over the Soviet made MiG-25 "Foxbat". When the Soviets showcased the MiG-25 the US Department of Defense went NUTS, from the looks it was fast, and they thought it was going to be an air superiority fighter. Keep in mind at this point in time our best fighter was the F4 Phantom II, and oh boy did the DoD lose their shit. They IMMEADIATLEY made a hard push for a new air superiority fighter capable of beating ANYTHING the MiG-25 they thought could do. A couple hundred US Billion dollars and a few years later the F-15 Eagle was born, and oh boy did the DoD get their performance estimations wrong on the MiG-25. It was fast, but it could not handle for shit, had terrible visibility, and its only job was to shoot down US Bombers from long range, that's it. The F-15 was so over developed that rival nations and even friendly ones are just now at the point where they can make a Gen 4+ fighter than can effectively combat the F-15 in certain scenarios, and the F-15 is now a 1/2 a CENTURY OLD, that's 50 years.
funny thing is thats not the oldest military tech that the US still uses. the Browning M-2 Ma Deuce is still in use today and i think the fat electrician has a video on that as well.
The F-15 isn't the only fighter with a thrust to weight of greater than 1. Also, thrust had nothing to do with that missing wing F-15 still flying. It turns out that the F-15's fuselage creates enough lift that it can still fly with a missing wing. But it was also because of the Israeli pilot's skill. Still, the Eagle is one of the best fighters of all time.
1. The US doesn't just have the back of the UK just because we've shed blood together in the fight for the free world against tyranny and injustice. 2. We don't just have the back of the UK just because we're of common language, music, art and culture. 3. We don't just have the back of the UK just because you have the most honorable and toughest Queen who has ever lived who drove ambulances while being bombed (though that's a biggy) 4. We in the US actually love your beer and food, and to lose you would just not do.
The F=15 that flew and landed with a wing missing was an Israeli F-15. The pilot realized he had lost a wing when he was on approach for landing and began making his final approach and slowing because he was finding himself making unusual maneuvering adjustments. There was also an American U.S. Female Air Force Pilot over Iraq that flew her A-10 safely back to base with 3/4 of her right wing shot off over Southern Iraq. Power, Design Redundtcy & Training was the reason the A-10 stayed in the air and landed intact. Well, intact minus 3/4 of one wing.
The pilot didn’t know that one wing was missing. His wingman didn’t tell him for fear that he might crash when he over compensated for the missing wing. The manufacturer flew over to inspect the aircraft and when was told about the missing wing told them it was impossible to fly with only one wing. 😮
He took my comment primarily with the F-15EX comment the last few seconds of his video. This F-15EX had some push back in Congress. But, the fleet of both the F-15 & F-18 are past their due date & stealth purposes are needed early in a conflict. However, being able to flex the muscle that a F-15EX provides, with modern technology installed at a fraction of the cost, and the jobs brought to a State/District: Will provide jobs which are a win/win situation for politicians. All the new technology & abilities that the F-15EX will have not been shared with the public yet. Test for the Jet are taking place out of Eglin Air Force Base in the Western Panhandle of Florida (near Panama City Beach). There are separate airframes NOS. 1, NOS. 3, and NOS. 4 have been delivered. Too date the F-15EX has past everything thrown at the jet. The Airforce intends to buy 104 jets, that is down from 188. COVID-19 & moving production out of South Korea to the U.S. has caused some delay. A total of 44 jets keeps the program within initial operation capability. The AF 2025 budget includes 24-48 jets with complete fulfillment of the 104 jets purchased by 2027. Indonesia has already expressed their intention to purchase the F-15EX.
Speaking of technology, regular troops had night vision in the early days of Iraq/Afghanistan. Like, imagine it being 2006 and just about everyone having access to night vision. I'm sure I wouldn't recognize anything today. New weapons from Sig, upgraded night vision, better rigs set up in my efficient ways, etc.
The Israeli pilot had to use afterburners to keep it level after training accident and land while using afterburners. The wing was replaced and continued to serve.
The F-22 is meant to replace the F-15C The F15-EX is more of a 4.5Gen than a 5th Gen fighter and would not be replaced until 6th generation are fully implemented. Also, The F-15 is what TOP GUN 2 use because it can house 2 people in its cockpit
The F-15 is 50 years old. The design that is. The ones they're making right now, the F-15EX Eagle II, have current US tech except for stealth. Turns out the F-15 is a strong boi, for one so fast and quick and maneuverable. Carries almost 30,000 pounds (13,400 Kgs) of weapons or external fuel, which is good because the F-22 and the F-35 are relative weaklings because of stealth. The F-15EX can "stand off" and deliver long range precision strikes with data from the sneakier F-35 in danger close.
if that plane had lost both wings even if it could stay in the air through sheer power it would be missing all roll control because of no ailerons and it would crash almost instantly. one wing it still has some roll authority so very careful and skilled piloting could be possible to fly.
Live about a mile from Dover Air Force base which is where the C-5s fly out of the east coast. They make the C-17 look small and you can see them practicing "touch and goes" sometimes.
Fun fact we are an estimated 300 years ahead of what’s publicly known 👍🏽 that information is slowly coming out in fragments. Any craft we know of publicly would almost be considered primitive in comparison to what is actually out there.
Rewatched your video, to see if I missed anything, there is a video about the origin of the f15. The USA military made the f15 in response to the mig 25 foxbat as the air force thought it was real. Thanks for sharing. You need to pause the videos and talk about it 10-15 seconds. The fat electrician guy is very knowledgeable and will give you premonition to use his videos with out any copyright if you email him.
Gentlemen, the funny thing about the F-15 flying without a wing is the Israeli pilot says he did NOT know it was gone until he landed after the incident
a 747 can approach over a million pounds of weight at takeoff give or take. Or for you office gents 453,000kg The second fastest fighter I think we had was the f-4 phantom II. at mach 2.2ish.
Actually in most areas technology has NOT done much in the last 50 years. Other than the continual shrinking of circuits and the attendant advantages that brings, we have stagnated. No Concorde type transports, etc. We still have the same EXTREME limitations on space flight. We have actually gone backwards on energy generation systems.

So glad you guys are back.😊
He is a great story teller.
Virginia Hall the deadliest spy of WWII from his channel is excellent.
The story of its development in reaction
to the Foxbat makes it even crazier.
My fave Fat Electrician vids are of the Proportional one, the one about Sgt. Reckless, and the one about the SR-71.
watch til the end, He sometimes dose something in the last 5 seconds normally funny as hell
I grew up around SAC bases. I've watched a lot of B-52s take off over the years, and I'm still amazed when they finally start to lift and the wings rise and shes gone.
buff shouldn't fly, but he does lol.
I live near PDX. They go vertical outside my back window almost daily. Makes one hell of a racket.
When the baddest plane until proven other wise is a Grandpa. Respect your Grandpa's. He was bad ass.
Same here Daz. Not only can I not understand how those big ass planes fly, but how do those big ass ships float???
I`ve seen these awesome planes take off
and indeed, once clear of the runway they shoot straight up and it`s just awesome to see it in person. So cool how
they just glide, you don`t hear the roar of the jets until they pass you.
Notes: Amazing! 🎉 Hmm.
The F-16 Falcon eventually had "Fighting" added to the name. The F-15 Eagle had "Strike" added. But he didn't mention that. 🤔 Hmm.
With cars, people would say something like, "That's a Nineteen-Sixty-Four Ford Mustang and that's a Two-Thousand Ford Thunderbird!"
But with airplanes, like he said, the decade an airplane debuted is what is said along with adding a letter after the number.
The F’ing Ridiculous Economic Disaster?
Glad you guys are back together
Planes fly bc of lift, the way the wings are made the air has to travel over the top faster creating a low pressure zone and a high pressure zone on the bottom so the air on the bottom pushes up
I am lucky where I live in America/Arizona... I live on the outskirts of Phoenix (In the Desert) I have Military Jets fly over my house EVERY DAY... Throughout the day.. it's very cool!!
I feel like I'd love that for exactly 1 day before it got old and LOUD! Lol
Hes simply the best ❤him Every video he makes awesome
I've said the same about the fat electrician that he gives me Rob McElhenney vibes as well!
Sounds like you might like a visit to the Wrights Brothers museum in Kill Devil Hills, NC if you make it over the pond again!
As TFE says, "It's never a war crime; the first time."
I'd say there is at least one incrementally "better" generation of aircraft currently in production.
Waiting for Daz to say "I love this, me." It won't take long
Off topic, as a front end developer, thank you for your comment at the end about building a website. When we do our job right, it isn't noticed. Or shouldn't be. So I do I appreciate that.
I work with product safety stuff.
Same thing. No one notices you unless you screw up.
It is actually called a Strike Eagle. It is a joint strike fighter as it can carry both A/A and A/G loadouts. It is capable of dog fights or long distance bombing raids with the addition of a fuel pod. Beautiful piece of machinery.
The F15E Variant is called the Strike Eagle. The F15 A-D models are just called Eagles
Plural of aircraft is.....aircraft. Thank you for attending my Ted Talk

25 miles a minute. You need to divide by 60 again. .418 miles per sec
@@patricktennant1585 I didn't want to break it down that far lol
The Berlin Airlift great video by him and colabortive project UK and US.
The F15 CAN BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER in a vertical takeoff. I was at Edwards AFB as a Crew Cheif on Fighter Aircraft, when it was a Test Project.
F-15 just 1 of a deadly fleet of aircraft you don't want heading your way. Imagine a radar operator seeing a swarm of bumblebees heading towards you of everything from F-15's to F-117's to B-2's all fully loaded.
These guys are awesome, so many good Brit reaction channels.
A P-47 Thunderbolt collided with a chimney in WWII and lost part of its wing. It managed to land safely.
Glad you lads are back. We've missed you. ✌️
The F-4 Phantom was the same way. A metal bumblebee that only flies because of thrust.
When I was a kid in the 80s the elementary school was under the flight path of guys coming and going from Wright-Pat. The F-4s always had us craning our necks up to watch them roar past.
When those planes take off and you’re standing at the end of the runway, it’s impressive.
You should try sitting under one while doing a double burner run a night. Not exactly legal but our QA guy was an F15 guy so he fudged for us.
The Limping Lady by the Fat Electrician is an awesome true spy story that should be made into a movie.
We don’t make sense, we make dollars. 😁
I love his video on the last great warchief highly recommend
I have seen video of an F-4 Phantom airborne with both wings folded.
Watching the military C-5 Galaxy fly is insane as well. They are a gigantic plane, and look like they are about to stall at 100 knots.
The F15-with the missing wing was a result of a mid-air collision, where the right wing was severed from the rest of the aircraft.
Literally was subscribed last week. Despite YT suggesting your videos just noticed I am no longer? derp
The F-22 is meant to replace the F-15C
The F15-EX is more of a 4.5Gen than a 5th Gen fighter and would not be replaced until 6th generation are fully implemented.
Also, The F-15 is what TOP GUN 2 use because it can house 2 people in its cockpit
They used an F/A-18F for the 2-person cockpit in Top Gun 2.
Love the react gents . awesome video .
Wait til they see the NGAD its basically F22 on steroids
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Clarke's Third Law... Arthur C. Clarke
There was another incident when the canopy of F15 was torn off
The senior officer took command and landed the plane safely.
One of our favorite plans..
You should see his video on the M50 Ontos "The Thing" as well as the De Haviland Mosquito.
Live about a mile from Dover Air Force base which is where the C-5s fly out of the east coast. They make the C-17 look small and you can see them practicing "touch and goes" sometimes.
Alien Technology!! 😆
Th F15 had a lifting body design,it was made to be a be able to fly less one wing
The reactions are back!!!!
