  • The Roland AIRA Compact series introduces the J-6 and the T-8, 2 tiny boxes packing legendary Roland sounds.
    Track composed by Bigkik
    No partnership with Roland.
All sounds from the Roland J-6 and T-8. Live recording on my phone via a Alto professional ZMX52 mixing table and a RODE SC4 Trrs connector.
For French speakers ; Knarf just released a complete overview of the Aira compact trio here :

    Great music.
Love the gentle sounds coming from the J-6, providing a bed for the drum and bass sounds, coming from the T-8.
And I just learned from watching, that I can mute drum tracks, by holding down the shift button.
(need to finish reading the manual).
I find the J-6 + T-8, to be a great environment, for making sweet music.
    Good times 🎶🙂

Yes, it is just a "pad" but it adds depth to the sounds of the T-8

Cool tune. I have noticed these two machine tend to be used together a lot. What is the main reason for that? I am totally new to music and wanted to make my own tunes for fun. So I was considering parting with a few pennies. However I am not too sure what setup to opt for. These certainly look and sound awesome. Thanks for the video and and any help in advance.

Thank you ! Being in the same situation as yours 2,5 years ago, and if you have a smartphone, i advise you to begin with free apps like Bandlab (Android) to discover what "beat making" is. Bandlab in particuliar is totally free and helped me a lot at my beginnings.
To answer your question : the T-8 and J-6 were released together in may 2022 by Roland. I think this explains a lot why you can see them together. They pair well since you get a basic drum + mono synth with the T-8 and a versatile lead/pad 4 voices paraphonic synth with the J-6. Also, instead of korg Volcas, they offer midi in and out, audio in and out so you can easily chain them.
There are of courses plenty of alternatives to the aira compacts :
      - korg volca
      - teenage engineering pocket operator
      - other portable synths : IK uno, Modal craft synth 2 / skulpt,...
But having tried them also, and judging on my own experience, the aira compacts are the most convenient to use without additional gear, especially a mixer.
If you have more money, you can also get a groovebox or a drum machine :
      - Elektron Model:Cycles or Samples
      - Roland MC-101
      - Korg Electribe
      - Roland TR-6S
In only one box you will get more possibilities than the T-8 and J-6 combined.
To sum it up : what I really like with the T-8 and J-6 is that it pushes you to deal with their limits and this way be creative. In comparison the MC-101 is really great and much more powerful, but I prefer to play with the T-8 and J-6 to find ideas. Note that there is also the new S-1 and the E-4 in the aira compact range...
I hope it will help you in the wonderful endless universe of beat making !
