In the first year of SF Pen show I don't remember anyone swapping stickers or anything.. but back then, it was JUST pens and maybe a few paper goods..but now it's gotten bigger and has included the journaling community...and you know us journalers LOVE to share goodies 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for the haul video along with your thoughts. It was great meeting you in person after watching your videos for a while. Meeting online friends and swapping stationery items was one of the best experiences.
Another great video, thank you. I will watch this again especially right before next year’s SF Pen Show. I was overwhelmed by everything as this year’s SF Pen Show was my first show. I didn’t spend a lot of money because I forgot to go back into the stationery room! Of all things! The crowd in there my first time was hard to navigate through. I enjoyed swapping stickers with you and look forward to creating better stickers to exchange next year! ❤
The first day was very overwhelming! The SF pen show is great for both stationery and pens. I think my focus will be on pens the first day and stationery the following days given that the majority of the attendees are looking for pen deals! The only stationery vendors that may need visiting the first day are Traveler’s Company and Plotter as they sold out of their products by the end of Day 2
Enjoyed the haul! So glad that pen show events now starting to pick up in my country, this year's going to be the second pen show in Hungary, hosting by Pennonia and other brands! I'm mostly a fine nib girl, but your grinded Wancher...oh boy...I fell in love!
I’m so happy to hear that! When I was living in Europe I had planned to go to the London Pen show and Dutch pen show but the timing didn’t work out for me. Now I wish I could have made something work to at least experience a show in Europe!
I love the pouches and all stationery you got! So many valuable information!! I def want to try and get some of my pens worked on and thank you for talking about budget for the show!
I hope to go to the SF pen show one day! This year I attended my very first pen show in DC. And ohhhhhh I am so jelly over your green TSL utility pouch!!! I’ve been on the hunt for the green for a while and have the biggest regret of not getting it when I had the chance a year or 2 ago.
Great haul and insights (per usual! :)) - the Sailor deal is just insane, and I hope they continue that (it's such a neat experience to be able to pick all the pieces yourself :))
Nice haul.. Sad, I missed the pen show again this year. Hopefully, next year since it's so close to me. I love the Build Your Own Sailor & it was a good price too. Hopefully, I can do that in the future. That Mom & Baby Bao & Sailor Pin is so 😍🥰. It's sold out on their website for now. The Rickshaw items, I'm glad it's available on their website. I hope Everyday explorers will carry the exclusive items again on their shop. Love the small sticker pack that I saw. Thank You for sharing your experience & giving us tips on what to expect when we go to a pen show. Salamat! 🤗🙏💖
I hope you get to go next year! I still feel like there is so much that I missed now that I’ve watched other attendees vlogs and hauls. There is just so much to see!
Re: pen pricing, I recently learned most online retailers automatically discount the MSRP from the manufacturer 20% to be competitive. So when I bought a pen 50% off MSRP it was actually more like 35% off regularly available online retail. Still a good deal but not as much as I had anticipated on seeing the %off. Thank you for sharing your experience. I had wanted to go this year but it didn't work out for me so it's nice to live vicariously through those that are sharing online and gain some insights for next year.
Thank you for that explanation! That is definitely the case in what I’ve noticed. With it being my first pen show, I’m already accustomed to what some of the average online prices of my favorite pen models are so seeing prices at a show can feel like it’s not much different if not more expensive at MSRP
Thank you for sharing and your honesty! That was my one happy thought when I couldn’t make it to the SF Pen show at that very last minute - at least I did not do much damage to my wallet 😂😅
I would go for the custom Sailor and the nib grinding. I'm from Canada and have not been to SF before, I saw you mentioned your trip to the Golden Gate Bridge - would you budget time to visit any other attractions while there the next time?
I personally had been to SF many times before to see the city. If it’s your first time I absolutely recommend it! There is so much to see. I talked with another pen show goer and she spent 3 days to see the city and 2 days to do the pen show. She was tired by the end of it but felt it was well rounded to see everything and shop the show! Definitely prioritize going the first days of the show and with early access! It’s worth it.
Sure! My favorite place to look at photos and writing samples is Pen Realms Instagram. (I am biased to Kirk Speer, he does great work). It’s important to know what your writing style is and if you prefer thin lines or wide. I have the Architect grind, best for writing in all uppercase letters. I have a cursive smooth italic that make writing in cursive effortless. It also has a nice flare to the writing with thick vertical lines and thin horizontal lines. Lastly, my newest grind is an Imperial. It offers both front and reverse (holding the nib upside down) writing. The imperial is very versatile and feels like I get 2 pens in one! Definitely check out Pen Realms pinned photos for all the different options.
Traveling costs so much! $1,000 did not even include all the food and transportation costs 🥲 I understand now why people attend the shows that are available to their region, like west coast or east coast.
I spent $600 between four new pens and stationery. And the only reason that happened was because the pen box i wanted was sold out by Saturday morning. I would have spent more.m😅
Those pen boxes would have doubled your spending! Haha I had planned for the pen box all the way up until the last few weeks before the show. And since I cancelled that from my priority list I think that’s where the floodgates were opened to just spend whatever because I was no longer trying to get a $500 pen box 😆 the workshops are definitely hard to gauge price vs experience!
@@journalwithjas I had saved for the pen box and that was gonna be it but instead the flood gates opened 😂 I enjoyed my workshop, learned new things, and got some great freebies but yeah probably won't do it again.

I love that!! I hope as more stationery lovers attend, the community building will grow as well 😊

Meeting online friends definitely is the best part about the whole experience!!

Wow Jas. You had a nice shopping spree. I’m glad that you had a great time.
You got so many cute and beautiful things!! 😍 Thank you for sharing!!

I did the exact thing with my Galen pen organizer in my utility pouch.
It’s like they were made for each other!

OMG So pretty tapes!! So gonna get it once her shop opens
I immediately went to her website to try and get the others I skipped on 😆

Can you dive into more info about your different grind nibs pls? So new to this.

Travel alone would cost me $1,000. Thanks for sharing your experience. I enjoyed every minute :)

Love the pet tapes from Tokubetsu. Could you please spell the name?
Wohenlanduo for the girls with holographic elements and Rice is Beautiful for the Capybaras and Ducks!

Also I'm sad I missed on getting Sidewalk Gum. It looks nice. I did one workshop and I don't think it was worth the price.
