The Travelers Factory store in Tokyo Station was so hard to find…i think i literally spent almost an hour trying to find it…it really is a bit of a maze to try and find it if you aren’t coming out of tokyo station. With Loft, the flagship store in Shibuya is the biggest one…their stationery level was HUGE and i literally spent 2 hours just on that floor…the sticker selection there is also MASSIVE. 100 yen stores i went to were 3 coins, daiso, seria and can do…with the daiso in harajuku being the biggest one. Ito-ya for me is more of the “fancy stationery” store…its mostly for looking and generally a teeny bit more pricey (it is in ginza after all). The one thing i did love is there greeting/gift card selection was amazing. I was there just before christmas one year and the selection was HUGE! For fountain pens, a friend of mine told me to go to Ancora (which is on my list for this time), and for art supplies Sekaido in shinjuku. But honestly if you see any sort of stationery store, just go in cos there’s sooooo many things there.
THE BEST TIMING! I’m going to Tokyo on Monday (in 2 days) and I feel like there aren’t a lot of stationery videos for Tokyo specifically!!

Love these tips! Like you, I’ve been to Japan various times in the past but unfortunately wasn’t totally aware or as big a fan of Traveler’s or Japanese stationery. Going to keep all this in mind for my next trip back! ❤

One thing I really like with Itoya is that they often have special events. I was there a couple of weeks ago during the MT event (33:48) and picked up some limited edition washi tapes 😊

The price at Itoya was very good. I purchased a Fountain pen and the service when you get a pen from there is next level. They find the best nib for you, then they ink up the pen, and if you are satisfied with the writing experience then they clean the pen and wrap it up for you. So the pen is the exact one you get when you begin using it at home. Plus Itoya is a tax free store as well.

Nice video. I agree with you the 100 Yen store. Used to visit all the time. Lived in Japan 5 years and just as you wasn't into stationary - I feel you. Now I live in Europe and want to go visit all those stores as well - back then didn't or wasn't aware of what was available. Spend to much time eating sashimi / Udon noodles and so on - miss that too. Glad you got to go! Thanks for sharing.

Hi I enjoyed your video very much and I thought your advice was really good. I have just arrived back from Japan yesterday and I’d like to add another shop to your list…it’s called Hands, formerly known as Tokyu Hands. I visited the location in Shibuya which has two floors of stationery products, many of the popular brands are there. It will not be a disappointment and you can also shop the other floors which are full of interesting lifestyle products made in Japan, my favourite was the top floor full of cat toys and dog costumes. This is really helpful! Thanks fur the tips. I'm wondering - did you bring one large suitcase, or two smaller ones? What do you suggest doing if you're planning to do a lot of stationery shopping? Does it all fit in your regular suitcase, or would it be worth it to take (or buy) an additional small one?
I thought I was going to buy so much stationery that’s fill a suitcase when in reality the stationery stacks and packs away nicely it really didn’t take up too much space! I would say if it’s mostly stationery and a few other souvenirs, a dedicated carry on would suffice. It also depends how long you’ll be traveling. Naturally the longer you stay the more you’ll buy! Don Quixote in Japan sells affordable luggage. You could totally shop for one while there!

While collecting stamps, did the ink bleed through the paper? I'm planning on purchasing TN as well. Just curious on your thoughts of the paper.
Some ink pads at train stations were extremely dry! I would actually recommend you bring your own mini stamp pad in case this happens. Stamps at the Traveler’s Factory were plenty wet, some were VERY wet! ALWAYS do a test stamp on scrap paper before stamping into your journal. I’ve learned the hard way…many times 😆

That’s so unfortunate! I know how it feels to learn about something after you’ve left. That was the case for me with stationery and the first time I was in Japan! Hence a redemption the next time I was in Japan haha
Just to clarify the name of the store that you got all the stickers is Seria? Can you please give a location and the name of the other 100y store you went to? I have a friend who goes often and need to let her know.
There are lots of Seria, Daiso, and Can★Do stores all over Japan! Your friend will be able to find at least one of them close to where she is staying, and definitely around major train stations! They will usually be inside larger shopping centers much like a department store.

I am not asking for details on your budget, don't' want to get that personal, and I was wondering costs wise, were the items like Plotter less expensive outside the fact the Yen is down. Comparing apples to apples, if you could buy those items in the US, would they be the same price. I'm trying to nail down a budget for stationary on my trip. 😊
Thank you for being considerate! I am not shy so if you’re interested in more details you are free to ask. Everything I compared, including Plotter was less than the US market. I would say the U.S. market would be the next price point after Japans. Anything available to the EU market was even more expensive. However, I was surprised to find fountain pens to not be much cheaper than online retailers. For that reason I did not purchase a fountain pen. If you are interested in Plotter (and are okay with the silver ring mechanism) I definitely recommend purchasing in Japan! The Yen is still very low (and inflation in U.S. rising) so there is a huge benefit to purchasing in Japan.

Good to know on the pricing. I want to stick with items that are specific to Japan. Seems that was pretty much what you did as well. Travelers, Plotter, Starbucks items you can't or it's really difficult to get in the states. I had heard that about fountain pens and I've seem some special editions pens only released in Japan I'd like to have but don't want to blow my budge there either. I'd love to have Book Cafe Lemon Lamy pen but I've only seen it twice. Once here on TH-cam and once on TikTok. Unless it's something like that, I'll probably stay away from the pens.
My plan is to go in April 2025 which will be peak time, for 14 days. In your opinion, would you stay in different hotels within Tokyo? We are also visiting Kyoto, Osaka, and maybe Hiroshima so I'm already booking several hotels and from what I read, staying within the ward/city is much easier than traveling.

@@kimdburns I would have to say whether you stay in Tokyo at one hotel or multiple would depend on where you want to sightsee. Tokyo is very big but the train system makes everything possible from one accommodation. If you only have a few days it may be wiser to just stay at one hotel. But if you have let’s say a full 7 days, you could split that between two hotels. It may seem annoying to pack and unpack but the change in hotel could save you hours of waiting for transportation and time spent in the trains in general. All in all, everything is reachable because of Japans train system. It’s just a matter of grouping things together so you don’t spend so much time on transportation. I stayed just outside of Tokyo (in Kawasaki) but it still took 40min to an hour to most major Tokyo sights, not including the millions of steps it takes to walk 😅

Thank you for the advice but my brand is to provide personality and a person along with journaling content. There are plenty of accounts who only show products and materials.
