This is the first time you’ve come across my feed, and I really enjoyed your description of everything and the pacing as well. I’m a fellow fountain pen lover, so I’m definitely about to do a deep dive on your channel🤣🤣 thanks for the great video!
I’m falling down that rabbit hole as well…4 pens now…only one bottle of ink, but a bunch of samples. I saw a good video explaining how many stores sell 2-4ml sample vials of all their inks (our local store does that a bit, I dig through that sample jar now!) and that has been fun to try the different inks in different pens with different nibs. Also, I restrained myself and kept myself in the “under $30” and found some good deals…and the ink samples are about $2 so you can see if you like how it looks in person, how it writes, if it’s legible (some are so beautiful, but you can’t see them well enough on the paper to read with them!) Anyway, that might help. It is a lot of fun for sure and it’s a definite rabbit hole!
@raeanneyong7419 not sure if you were asking me…but for pens, I had bought some Platinum Preppy’s in different colors and nib sizes (the 02 is extremely fine.) I can also use them for testers as eye dropper pens. My first “real pen” of my return to fountain pens was a Kaweco Sport Classic (Bordeaux F gold nib), then I discovered italic/calligraphy/flex nibs, so I bought a Pilot Prera (Clear demonstrator with Calligraphy Medium 1.0 Stub nib), then today, just to have a few others to try that didn’t break the bank, I got two Jinhao 82’s one F, one M (dupe-ish of Sailor Pro Gear Slim for $8) just to try different inks/nibs and pen size styles without worrying I’m breaking something pricey. I bought a bottle of Diamine Antique Copper, and have some Sailor Shiriroki samples in reddish, and two purples, J. Herbin Rouge Grenat and Poussière de Lune in cartridges (they fit the Kaweco, but I got a blunt syringe so I can pull the ink out of it and put it in the Prera or the Jinhaos) and…I have a box of all the different Kaweco cartridge colors when I got the pen (currently using the Caramel Brown and it has lovely shading!) Uhhh, I was thinking…oh, I have nothing, but…let’s put the brakes on this now!
As a fellow left-handed stationery fan, I love the concept of these pens! I’m an underhanded writer and fountain pen girlie but love fine liners too and anything to help my fellow southpaws is a win. 20:10
De Atramentis Pearlescent Velvet Black Gold Ink or Pearlescent Whisky Brown Gold Ink would look good in the orange fountain pen, I bet! As a lefty I have looked at the Curva Pens but haven’t bought one, but seeing it in action might just be the early Christmas present to myself that I (didn’t) need to buy!
Loved the stamps, and inks. I only have a few fountain pens, a couple narwhal pens, but I love choosing different inks and playing with color. Also the rub on transfers is something new to me. Never knew they made ones for paper!
Thanks, Mark: some very interesting and desirable items. I like the look of the Curva Pen and I think Mattehops are brilliant. Stationery is an endless source of joy! 💜💜💜
DUDE! That magnetic die-storage binder: OMG YES!!! TY so much! Oh! & I ordered a die-cutting machine yesterday - FINALLY! 🥳 I can't wait! I also placed an order with FWP not long after the live (you did great btw); it wouldn't allow me to use your code combined with my FWP LP Rewards gc code 🫤 but I was able to use their code for the free bottle of ink. YAY! Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your "fall haul". I always enjoy watching your videos. 💯
@@markyourpagesBTW, I'd happily alleviate your frustration & take some of those acrylic blocks & ink pads to get them out of your way. 😁 I can't believe I'm totally out of black ink stamp pads. 😱 I didn't realize it until after I'd already placed my ALTENEW order. (Doh!)
The fineliners are so cool! I always get needle tip pens when possible cause I tend to grip low, and bend over, and you can see what you’re doing! I’ve also recently fallen into the fountain pen hole…I had one years ago and really liked it, but found gel pens to be more fun because of all the cool colors (and fountain pens had boring ink.) But now!!! Oh my gosh, it’s like I’m building up my collection based on nib sizes to use with different inks…shading, shimmering, sheening, pooling…all the colors!!! I’m getting ready to put in a big sample size order from a small business pen store that’s also online, and I can’t wait!!! Now, you’ve presented die cuts…I haven’t been sucked in by stamps yet and I really don’t know what the die cuts are (but I imagine they go in some pressing machine and cut the paper out in shapes, which sounds really cool!) I loved those ink swatch transfer ‘stickers’! They were beautiful and really did just blend in with the paper! I NEED that globe holder Ferris Wheel Press stand…that is a need, not a want…then I’ll need FWP bottles to put in them 😁 I haven’t tried fountain pens in my Archer and Olive notebooks…but, I imagine that it probably really depends on the nib and the ink itself. Maybe inks that are drier or less ‘slick’ wouldn’t soak and feather? It would be interesting for you to do a bunch of swatching tests with different inks on the A&O paper and see which ones do well, and which ones don’t. I’ve seen people do swatch videos using 4 or 5 different types of paper, and it’s really fascinating how differently the inks react to the different papers! That would be a really fun video…plus, you could find out the good nibs and inks so Jess will be happier with the fountain pens 😁 You’ll bring her around…maybe try one of those galaxy blue chipped ice pens…she can’t resist blue! Also, aren’t Mattehoppe the coolest pens?! If you write slowly with them, they lay down so much ink and it doesn’t sink it, it raises itself up and is almost like a professionally embossed printing on a card. Takes a little time to dry, but it’s gorgeous!! I really hope they expand the color range also. Thanks for sharing all the fun stuff!!! You have a lot of new toys to play with now!
I love fun stationery and you are right about certain pens doing better with diffenrt inks. There are so many fun options. Thanks for checking out the video :-)
😂 me too!!! This video in combo with notifications non-stop on my phone for “Black Friday Lightening Deal Right Now!!!” is going to get me in trouble if I’m not careful! But, it is always fun to see the glee on Mark’s face, like he’s Ralphie getting a Red Rider BB when he opens up all of his goodie boxes of fun stuff.
I like your reviews for your opinions but also you don’t waste my time getting there. You are making me take another look at the MP1 and FWP ink holder, and the Matterhop gel pens
Try notebook theraphy notebooks. I do sketching and water color and the paper on their notebooks arr fantastic. Can take water color and inks don’t feather!!!! They also have sets and stamps and stickers that match
What's up Mark! Every time I watch your videos with Archer and Olive in them, I think about getting myself something. I like the way their products looks. Thanks for that. OJISAN does not mean old man, it means uncle. I have my nieces call me that all the time. 😁 Ok Mark, now we have a problem. 13:21 - As soon as you opened the box and I saw the color of that pen I sprained my ankle running to Atlas site and putting this in my cart. Thanks bruh, I wasn't supposed to spend anymore til the new year. I am thinking about putting Chou Kuro in this pen. I wonder if the nib can handle it? This is a nice haul. I am definitely going to get the Monteverde right now and I am going to check out Archer and olive one more time. What would you recommend from them for someone who does project planner? 💜
Did the Pentel gel pens seem like they dried relatively quick? I like writing with them but even as a right handed writer I found myself smearing the ink a lot if I wasn't super careful. I like the way they dried on the black paper though!
I've got a lot of fountain pens, but I start to think the problem is me not the pens... in my minds eye, I know what I'm doing, but in reality, I have no idea 😅 The pens are nice tho...
@markyourpages I have the ones you dip and the ones that have the fountain inside. (English is not my first language so I don't know the correct words maybe) I might have wrong kind of ink...that I realized by watching your video, I thought ink is ink 🤔 But also my handwriting is quite messy. I also got a glass pen, and I don't get it to leave anything on a paper... 🫣
I'm glad you showed off the inks, from A&O the other weird thing about their pictures is they somehow got very consistent ink colour instead of a variation like yours has on the larger nibs, and honestly I was hesitant for that reason weirdly enough? I like ink variation, I think it give writing a personality. I think in their attempt to show off their inks they aren't really showing the best parts of it, it's kind of weird.
All the fountain pen folks I follow pronounce J Herbin as "are-BAHN", so I believe that's the preferred way to say it. But then again, who's gonna force you to pronounce things one way or another?
Hahaha. I just accept that I’m pen and and ink brand uneducated - but rely on the community to help inform me. Even brands like Benu - turns out I’ve been saying that name wrong for a few years now
Then don't be in this community 😂 if someone has the money to spend on something that gives them joy, then good for them. But also, this is legitimately a job for him. "I didn't buy stationery for my job about stationery!" would be a terrible video
Totally valid. I would never buy stationery instead of groceries - but this is a fun hobby for me. We all have out thing. But maybe you will find something that you will like :-)
And here you are. I buy quality groceries and stationary that LASTS. Like food quality matters. You buy junk your body uses it but if they contain ingredients that harm you-junk-buy disposable cheap stationery works but isn’t pleasant to use has to be continually replaced-breaks-that’s not a value. Family of 2 and we do farm share and groceries and are way less than 400 month. Perhaps if your spend is so high you would have better value for your time watching budgeting and food saving content.
@@loridorii That's about the level of grown-up answer I'd expect. I make over $200k as a Litigator, but that's not anyone's business.
