In 1979 I was in 9th grade and there was an ad in the paper to come down to the Los Angeles Sports arena and watch them film the fight sequence for ROCKY ll . I went down there and I got to be part of the crowd, we got to watch the last round being filmed, they kept spraying Carl and Sly with water to keep them looking sweaty I remember. The crowd went wild the whole time, they had us sitting around for hours and they gave us a free chicken lunch.
MMMCLXXX ________ i was born in 82. Don't you find it weird that we are slowly becoming the old guys that we use to see all around us? I'm 35 now and watching the next generations grow is crazy. As a teeny all the football players seemed like old grown man, now seeing a 35 year old pro footballer is almost impossible.
This movie literally saved Stallone from possibly living the rest of his life homeless or worse. We wouldn't have gotten any sequels and Bloodsport wouldn't exist. A legend never realized
It was the survival instinct that made him insist to play the main character and to keep control of the overall outcome. Against the wall erupts the best creativity.
It's actually pretty strange to see Sly out of character in old footage like this. What I mean to say is, I grew up with the Rocky movies in the early 80's so I always saw Sly as 'Rocky'. His genuine demeanor, personality and especially how he spoke made me believe that Rocky was a real person and not a fictional character. We laughed with him, we cried with him, we were happy for him and we were sad for him. With that said, to see him unlike how we are so used to seeing in those movies is 'out of character' to me. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that grew up watching Rocky that feels the same way. If you ask me, to make an audience feel that is a true testament of how well of a job Sly has done portraying this unbelievable and inspiring character that we all hold so close to our hearts for the past 40 years.
But are you saying this now is the first time you have seen Stallone "out of character?" I mean this is over 40 years ago, how strange is this to see,? I'm just a touch confused by your post.
Mark Silverman Of course I've seen him out of Rocky character in other movies over the years but not in the ring with the gloves on with Apollo Creed/Carl Weathers. In this setting, I'm so used to seeing him be 'Rocky'.
Oh yes, I see. It is quite amazing to see how he put that fight together punch by punch, it's the single most dramatic action sequence in motion picture history,
well said. DO you know? Not too many people realise he wrote Rocky - he created that character. But he created so well that people did not realise he is a brilliantly clever man. Nice. Hes a legend. Long live Sly.
I read that they tried improvising the fight first, but it didn't work out. Stallone wrote 60 pages of choreography overnight and that's what they used. He's smarter than a lot of people think he is. However, I think his best performances have come when others have written and directed. Loved him in Copland.
This is why the likes of Sylvester Stallone & Bruce Lee were in a class of their own. Their vision & creativity was second to none. None of the boxing/martial arts type or action films of today even scratches the service when put up against this.
DesignPro2002 There are also very well choreographed asian action movies, no wire work or cgi, just old fashion stuntwork. Have you seen The Raid for example? It's really good.
the part at 2:18...wow...man...i know this entire scene and to see it being curated like this is just amazing...that one moment when Rocky gets up and says come on...to Creed...
BEAUTIFUL...ROCKY FAN 4 LIFE. THANKS ALI/WEPNER 1975. SLY CAME IN 1976 1 YEAR B4 I WAS BORN. REAL IN 75 IN 76 WE ALL SAW WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. AT 70 SLY'S STILL DOING IT. RIP ALI... G.O.A.T.
Is there any actors today that does these things? Like look at Stallone and Carl Weathers....theyre physiques are insane. Theyre actors but they looked like professional boxers. Amazing
Avean Check out Michael Jai White. He is an old school action movie maker who directs, writes, choreographs action scenes and stars in his own movies, pretty much like Stallone, very hands on. Some of those movies you can find here on the youtube. This movie is called Undisputed 2. th-cam.com/video/nJjZnzNg4v4/w-d-xo.html And here is another one called Bone. th-cam.com/video/CA2JLC-FYg0/w-d-xo.html
You're right there are very few these days. The old school boys are getting too old now. A current actor of the type you are talking about would be Jason Statham.
Stallone's commitment to details in fight scenes is great. The amazing part is that he is been managing to do it for 4 decades already, not just directing but also participating in the action scenes. When it comes to making old school action flicks in Hollywood I only see Michael Jai White, who also directs, stars and choreographs, doing that other than Stallone.
it's pretty interesting that he came from a generation where people like him didn't want anyone to know how short he was. maybe that's part of the reason why burt young got the part of paulie.
Maybe. Stallone was kind of an idol to me in my youth, though. Everyone seems to be big until we grow up. Then came Schwarzenegger, and suddenly Rocky/Rambo seemed to be kind of a toy compared to Arnold´s John Matrix/Terminator/Dutch. Arnold is about 3 to 4" taller than Sly. Arnold, however, seems to be smaller than before. At this moment he´s more about 6'1/2" than 6' 2". Bodybuilding effects?!
I think he was like 6ft2 but the Internet is always changing info. Like I've seen where it says Sly is 5ft10 and some say 5ft11 and some say 5ft9 so we just never really know lol. See the person above me said that Carl was 6ft1, but I said 6ft2 lol
Interesting fact: Sylvester Stallone recalled Carl Weathers frequently complaining on set and found him difficult to work with as a result, "In some sessions he was ... into it, but then sometimes ... he was very dark and couldn't work", said Stallone. According to his book
+Mike Boon Stallone was about 5ft8-9" here, I read somewhere that he`s shorter now, in this movie he weighed about 200lbs in Rocky 3 he only weighed 153lbs!
Great stuff. Anyway the thing I notice more is the real height differene between Sly and Carl Weathers. Weathers is a legit 6f 2i and in the movie they looks almost at the same height, when Sly is maybe 5f 9i, but maybe.
It's amazing how precisely Stallone had things planned in his mind.
Justin Williams it is not written in a dialogue yet
Even if it was already written, he still uderstand very well what he has to do.
And how great Carl and Stallone worked together...Carl was an amazing specimen and athlete for sure and that helped tremendously.
That was really great. This is what's fantastic about You Tube.

lol Me neither. Born in '80 also.
We still lived in the "good ole days" though.

Damn that is awesome fellas. Dec 1980 baby here reporting in.

one of the best movie ever...hollywood history

B Davis Copland should have been nominated in 1997 it is a solid movie
What a wonderful take! Sly is a legend putting this together like he did most of all his Films. Awesome!!
With punches like that, Weathers should've been a real boxer. They were scary. ;(
He once played linebacker for the Oakland Raiders, so he was a professional athlete in real life.
STEJTHEGREATEST Amen
Yes like I thought he would hit Sly for real lol!
Fantastic!
This is why the likes of Sylvester Stallone & Bruce Lee were in a class of their own. Their vision & creativity was second to none. None of the boxing/martial arts type or action films of today even scratches the service when put up against this.
DesignPro2002 it made a influence
Stfu, the fighting was horrible in rocky.
DesignPro2002 There are also very well choreographed asian action movies, no wire work or cgi, just old fashion stuntwork. Have you seen The Raid for example? It's really good.
How can you compare Sylvester Stallone to Bruce Lee???
The Raid.
Sly and Carl: two legends
Man Carl Weathers' punches had POP to them! And I think that's Larry Merchant, formerly of HBO and the Philadelphia Daily News.
the part at 2:18...wow...man...i know this entire scene and to see it being curated like this is just amazing...that one moment when Rocky gets up and says come on...to Creed...
Absolutely brilliant!!!!
The fight sequence in the original ROCKY is probably the single most exciting and dramatic action sequence in motion picture history.
Christ, this is incredible to see. I loved Rocky. Thanks for posting.

Keanu Reeves did a great job for John Wick.
we have also good actors now like Christian Bale

Avean Carl Weathers was ripped and huge.
Wow I loved it the background that started it all
Loved it
thanks for sharing this amazing moment.
It's awesome to see this, and then go and watch that 14th round. It's like the rehearsal but even better!!!
Awesome. Long live Sly!
This is fabulous just legends both best upload I've seen in years

Mark Ant I know Bruce Lee choreographed, I'm talking about actor/directors who choreograph in the present time.
Wow this video is gold, amazing old times...thk brother for the good video and sorry for my english.
Better World. My thoughts also:)
Amazing choreography. Just shows how real it feels with just a bit of acting.
Loving this footage.
Thank you for video....brings slot of memories
Great footage! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for this awesome upload!
Damm Carl was a big dude
No, Stallone is smaller than he usually looks. Carl is about 6´ 1". Stallone is not 5 11" as some sites tell. He´s more about 5´ 9".
it's pretty interesting that he came from a generation where people like him didn't want anyone to know how short he was. maybe that's part of the reason why burt young got the part of paulie.

This is beautiful to watch the work and effort etc that had to be put in.
Thank You! 👍
His enthusiasm is what made hi I'm a legend. Damn he's is fully into it
The man worked hard , made great movies. Rocky is a household name.
Carl Weathers in great shape
I'm not into boxing . I watched this video because of Carl Weathers , my #1actor. I did like the laughter.👍
He was born to play the role.
Interesting fact: Sylvester Stallone recalled Carl Weathers frequently complaining on set and found him difficult to work with as a result, "In some sessions he was ... into it, but then sometimes ... he was very dark and couldn't work", said Stallone. According to his book
This is awesome
Brilliant
Carl has those 3d delts. he really inspired me to workout.
Wow I love this
EPIC! thx for sharing this video
Those both guys made history in cinema.
Wonderful.
Freaking Carl Weathers could have been a pro boxer.
this was great
Carl wearing that classic Vince gym tank top 💪💪💪
Those were some bad ass punches bruh!
The best.
LEGEND!!
Trouble is today the fight would’ve been stopped
great

Fantastico Sly Number one
I ain’t goin down no more.
These guys, were naturally ripped! How can I get like this? I'm 5"11 200 lbs, 25 yrs old.
Dude, I have no idea. I will tell u this though, most of these stars were on roids so don't feel bad.
thanks brother

I never really noticed the difference in height between these 2 until seeing this

@@markant9534 I definitely don't think he's 5ft8.. I'll said 5ft9 or 5ft10

Whoa!! Stallone could of been the best diver in boxing history! makes it look so real. Tyson could only do this in real life.
ADRIAAAAAAAAAAANE
What a beautiful moment 🤣😂🤣😂😊😊
It crazy how big Apollo Creed looked when I was a kid and now he looks like skinny teenager.
Weathers could throw pro punches for real, it seems.
Good punches
True movie craft
Carl Weathers amazing body
The Rocky Graziano reference at 2:15 is when Rocky went down against Sugar Ray Robinson.
He did not beat the count though iirc.
Stallone --- stall lone.
when serious effort went into movies.
Mega
Fucking awesome
Back when Stallone's HAIR WAS REAL...
It looked like he really hit him the 2nd time.
In these sequences Weathers appears to be three or more inches taller than Stallone. In the films Rocky must be wearing lifts.
That's a lot of work.
If Rocky had blocked through the whole series... I mean he never learned to protect his face.
If u think about it, none of the opponents blocked their faces. Not that I remember lol
@@sylviaslydavis405 lol True
@@RickSuaz 🤣🤣 funny how that is
Are those journalists at the side of the ring? Is this filmed after Rocky came out? Does anyone know?
Rocky wasn't while in Rocky 1.. Rocky getting fit while in the Rocky 2
Carl Weathers looks like Apollo!
Showwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww............................
If Bruce Lee was alive in the 70s and 80s i winder if Sly would of picked him to be a boxer in the Rocky movies?
What is this I don't now because I'm turkish

Is this Rocky or Rocky 2?
What the Rocky and Apollo fight wasn't real ? 😭
