    The thought and care that goes into Brian's kayak designs is deeply impressive. Each one is a masterpiece of its kind, and they are all embedded in the deep community wisdom of the Arctic communities. This is why I trust his build plans so much more than other vendors with 20 or 30 designs in their catalogue and using non-traditional build techniques.

    I do not know if you remember, but this is the style of boat that I lust after.............Looking forward to how this comes out!

      Hey Rob, this is such a specialty boat that I’m not sure I can afford to move forward on the project. Almost every person who has contacted me about this it was actually the wrong boat for what they wanted to do. They either should’ve been in my F1 or a plastic Whitewater kayak. It’s just such a small market and I have to be able to afford to pay myself to make the plans and videos.

      @@capefalconkayak well, if you ever make it out east I can drop you into my rockhopper and tweak your mind with this boat.....I am just starting to paddle again after a hiatus and love the maneuverability of the rockhopper as opposed to my long boats, but at 13' of plastic it weighs more than my glass tempest 170 so a skin one like this, oh man....

    For me there's nothing better than hearing and seeing the user, design, build and demonstrate what they've created. It takes away from the art but once perfected it would be cool to see it in a composite version.

      I’m a big fan of the blow molded plastic personally. I wish there was a way for me to work in that medium.

    Tedious? You are one of the few youtubers I can listen to all day! I’m really looking forward to seeing how this design plays out. I’m just a fat old lake paddler in a plastic boat, but I love thinking about what could be. My plastic boat (Pelican Escape 120) is good, but something 20# lighter will soon be better for me.

      @@TheDcrocks1 thanks for asking! I actually decided to build 2 of the pack canoes because my grandson wanted to try that. They turned out great ! Actually cut our own birch trees and turned them into the rib material and learned how to steam bend them. The gunnels were made from old growth Douglas fir that was cut on my Ranch. Cover was heat shrink Dacron as I’ve used for aircraft covering. Now need to build 2 more to make the catamaran option. Would still like to build a kayak for myself.!🇨🇦

    Exciting new design! River trips have always been my favorite. So many rivers here in the PNW that are mostly flatwater, but with some occasional class II rapids. Length was appropriate.

    Very well thought out design. I was waiting for you to flip it over so we could see the hull shape. Great idea for water flow around the bow. I'll check the part 2 video to see if you invert it. I was curious on the amount of rocker that hull has compared to the F1. Boy your videos sure make one itching to get going on a boat. You have great passion for your sport and for sharing your passion with us, thank you. Keep well

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd like to release it but to do that I'd need to build two more to dial in the shape, and so far nearly everyone who has contacted me about them has been the wrong person for this boat. People just don't seem to understand that for shallow rivers this is the wrong boat, for day trips this is the wrong boat, for flatwater and easy swiftwater this is the wrong boat, and for anyone who can't judge rapids and paddle well enough not to break it mid trip, this is the wrong boat. It's just such a niche product that I'm not sure I can justify putting more work into it, and I'm also worried about liability!! It's not hard to build though, it's basically just the deck of my F1 with a round bottom, I could talk you through it pretty easy if you want one.

    Maybe change the angle enough on those cockpit lines to give the outrigger capability to your deck rigging.

    Good video good length

  • @wisenber
    @wisenber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your last on water video did look like it would benefit from a bit more volume in the bow.
    Sadly most of the East Coast whitewater is rocky and/or schoaly in all but near flood level. We have some lively Class 3-5 sections, but they all have hull scraping rocks.
    Then again, before the advent of modern plastic boats Hypalon cover Klepper folding boats were the thing, Once fiberglass became pervasive, local clubs would all have their group mold to use to make boats and they were constantly patched over the season.

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Problem is, any more bow volume and it would stop slicing the water and start shoving it, so I think I'm right at a critical threshold there, if I push it any further towards the whitewater end of things it will suck as a river runner. Still a lot more end volume than a crossfire or a mirage. I wouldn't use this as my daily river runner, there are better options for that. This is really intended for distance tripping on rivers where a few rapids are unavoidable. It is just kind of a fun toy in general though.

    • @wisenber
      @wisenber 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@capefalconkayak I get the balancing act on bow volume. It gets in the way when you don't need it, but it's much appreciated when you do.
      I have a rotomolded Wave Sport Ethos for whitewater use. It's a "hybrid" with a dry stern hatch and has a drop down skeg with a high volume bow.
      The end result says "compromise" throughout. Not nearly as maneuverable as a pure whitewater boat and not much speed on the flatwater. However, she outpaces whitewater boats on flatwater and maneuvers better than flatwater boats on whitewater.
      Carrying much gear REALLY impacts handling and trim as well. The storage of the stern hatch is quite inviting, but it converts an otherwise agile and well balanced boat into a sea cow.

    Hi Brian, nice kayak, again.I'm imressed what you do with it! Why don't you run the rubber chord from outer left padeye to the outer right one (or at least to the middle rigt one)? This would catch your whitewater paddle easily...

    You are the sensei of sof. Very nice work. Why should I paddle this instead of Anas Acuta? Is it that much more fun? I am interested... it's not as pretty as the Greenland kayaks, but that spin...

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You lose a LOT of things for that 180 degree spin. If you don't specifically need that for something I think the losses outweigh the gains. It is a neat toy though.

    Is quickness and speed like accelleration and velocity? Like the physics class stuff.

    • @qaannat
      @qaannat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A quick kayak is easy to accelerate but may not have a high top speed. A fast kayak may take a few strokes to get going but can reach and maintain, with the proper paddler "engine", a higher speed.

    I thought the whole point was to slow down and have - TIME - to see the beauty not rushing past, I don't get it.

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The point isn't speed, but rather efficiency. Glide. Paddling a normal whitewater kayak on long stretches of flat water just because you need it to get through the occasional rapid is sheer drudgery. You're going slow alright, and you have plenty of time, but you're not enjoying anything other than the idea of getting to the end of the day.
