That instant-air DP motion "trick" just blew my mind. It absolutely makes sense, why it must work, it just never occurred to me to try it even after playing on keyboards / hitboxes for 2 years now. Thanks a lot for sharing this!
Ran into this video 3 years too late but it actually helped a bunch. I just got my first leverless controller to help with my finger/wrist issues and you covered everything so perfectly.
I've recently become addicted to fighting games after avoiding them my whole life. I just ordered a hitbox because I was tired of messing up my inputs in Guilty Gear with a pad. 5mins in to trying it out and I see that it's gonna take some time before I feel comfortable with this
The actual/original "tiger knee" input from SF2 Sagat you supposed to hit up-forward and kick at the same time so that you are hitting the button before the character actually jump and leave ground. Therefore for moves like Zangief's 360 where you are not trying to do an instead air command you should just hit the jump and punch button at the same time without plinking. The plinking is what made the 360 inconsistent because you may have hit the punch button after he's already considered off ground.
I don't generally comment, but my Hitbox just came in today and it had my mind blown. I really appreciate this guide as it helped clear up a couple things. My guilty gear combos thank you!
You’re an awesome teacher, as someone new trying to get into fighting games you really taught it in a way that doesn’t seem discouraging or daunting. Thank you! (:
This is a awesome video. I'm an old sf2 player and started sf6, got all the cool stuff and struggled to understand this new controller concept. You are a good teacher!
Swear this is the most informative video on using the hitbox..I received mine three days ago..I was worried about my transition from stick with movements especially..this video is very helpful..thank you
As someone who had a hitbox since the beginning of this pandemic, it sat in the closet... well, started using it and was really fun. This was really helpful, thank you!
I don't play and don't plan to play on hitbox, but this has been really insightful to gain knowledge on what a hitbox player may do and try to be ready for it. I think over time results between hitbox and other controllers will tend to even up. What gives hitbox players an edge right now is that stick and pad players are mostly in denial and don't seek knowledge on strategies based on hitbox and how players face certain situations.
Thumb being up will make complete sense in my brain as a longtime PC player of various genres. I've been hitting space to jump for 25 years, I'm sure hitting a button in relatively the same spot will feel extremely natural to me :P
you’ve inspired me to pick up a hit box for GG Strive. this mushy dualsense D-pad has my thumb callused already and my movement is rough. gotta get good before online tourneys start
This was such a fantastic intro into hitboxes. As someone getting an A.B.C. (all button controller) I'm equally curious and daunted by the transition. This video covered every question I had, and then some. Subbed for the quality of this video alone. Great work!
This is by far the best Hitbox video I've seen.. I looked at a few of them too before I arrived her; but this video covered everything i was looking for in fine detail and proper explanation. Thanks
Thanks a lot Yohosie, i just bought a hitbox type controller and was struggling so bad and this video is a like a miracle for me. Not only did you explain all the motions and movements I was struggling with you also demonstrated it on games I am trying to learn it on. Definitely one of my favorite videos this year. Thanks again.
the SOCD that comes with the brooks UFB prevents multiple illegal inputs and from what I understand the SOCD is required to use a hitbox in tournaments
I thought DS4 could use analogue + dpad to do opposite direction imputs, but it isnt considered practical at all. So Cheatbox still wins. I have always found that PC players adapt to up on the thumb easy is because spacebar is jump in most Keyboard/Mouse games. Your video's are very high quality and some elements remind me of Core-A-Gaming. Great work!
Not really. You don't have to hit the diagonals in the SPD input. So long as you hit the four cardinal directions, you get the ability. I don't think you even need to hit them in order because the game will just check for the 4 directions
As someone who’s played a lot of pc games. This just looks right. My thumb is just to big for dpads Ordered an all button fightstick so let’s hope for the best.
Half circles are gonna be the death of me. I just lazy mode it and slide my index finger across 6 2 and 4 and it works pretty well. It's a little more difficult for some supers though.
up being on the thumb is because the idea of a leverless controller stems from player fighting games on PC where you have access to keyboard and on keyboard your jump button is almost always, unless you use alternate layouts, spacebar with your thumb
This is by far the best, most insightful instruction on hitboxes, and possibly fighting games that I've seen. Absolutely linking to this when people see my mad home built xbox 360 carcass hitbox.
This reminds me of the late 90s where a friend of mine used his keyboard for Street Fighter on PC. He'd do the same thing with the arrow keys (and never pick Zangief). I decided then I would generally avoid using keyboard inputs (guess who I main).
When I first tried a keyboard with hitbox layout, the movement was very intuitive but the attack button layout was so difficult I couldn't get over it. Using my thumb for everything was so easy on pad. Might try again some day
Really good video! I'm in the process of ordering a case and parts to build my own hitbox so I'll be sure to come back to this video once I get everything and put it together!
Due to the current situation, I can't get a hitbox, so I'll practice on keyboard until I get one in my hands P.S: Finally assembled a Hotbox, despite a very bad cable management, everything worked as intended (for now). While it feels like learning fighting games again, I know I have this to help speed that process... I just hope my fightstick doesn't explode for the cable management
Holy fucking GOAT. Watched this 2 years ago when you uploaded it but I just now got a hitbox so I came back because I kept getting tiger knee specials instead of super jump button and sure enough you had a solution. Common Yohosie W 🤝
I've been playing fighting games on keyboard for a long time before hit boxes even came out. I use asd-Spacebar-uio-jkl as my layout. Same thing as a hit box really.
ive been a keyboard player forever now the only thing thats difficult for me is the 8 keys for my right hand since that was always for my mouse that took a good week to transition. but now fighting games and combos come so naturally for me.
Awesome vid thank you. Proud new HB Branded owner here. Funny how you mentioned the Jump button would be a hard adjustment. It wasn't for me, I think it's because thousands of hours playing MMO'S. Pressing a jump button is built into my brain so I took to it naturally with the HB LOL.
This is a really really informative video! If anyone ever asks me about hitbox controls for dbfz and what it takes, learning curves and things to know. I'll just send em over to this video. Everything was explained well so I'm definitely subbing rn
I use a Haute 42 T13 and I love that the M1 button above the down button is up. For games like Tekken it is extremely hard to reverse your thinking, using thumb to use the UP button below the buttons. Therefore, a Razer Kitsune is never going to be for me because they do not have the up button above the down. I'm used to WASD keyboard plays, so for me it feels natural. But that is just my personal experience. I'm sure that other people adapt more easily.
For example, when combo's in Tekken require you to do UF1, UF4, DF3, F1+2, UF4. You see how many times you have to do up forward? It is very hard to do it reversed. :P
this guide is awesome was having problems figuring out how to 1 frame axl bomber. Thanks! Very detailed even in the advanced new players need this. just want to stress on the TK explanation of your own method how important the plink of up and attack is for the input to come out.
I got one last year but I had a hard time adjusting. Im going to give it another try you motivated me bro!. If someone could create a small stick with a dpad on it and the 6 button layout I would be golden.
I'm having problems with half circle and then forward for potemkin grab, it usually goes diagonally on the last one instead of straight, also for some reason it works on supers but not on the buster, it's driving me mad since I really need the speed for the buster and made a hitbox cause of it xD
Great video as I'm working on learning how to use a hitbox efficiently. The input motions toward the end was the most useful section for me. The part that was a little difficult was Advanced Movement 13:30 because I am unfamiliar with what the combo inputs actually are and what the problem actually is. I had to watch that section several times to understand what needed to be done before I could really understand how the problem manifests. I think what would have been helpful is showing the normal input for what the combo string is then contrasting it by showing where the forward is injected to prevent the problem. Thanks for putting this together!
I have a mpress hitbox coming soon and I'm excited to finally get to use one. This was a really comprehensive video i appreciate the attention to detail thanks allot. I know it's going to take me awhile to get use to the movement but wow it looks super smooth like it you are playing a piano
Was thinking about getting the mpress but that 375 was too much for me for something i have never tried before. Ended up getting the snackbox XL for 225. Hopefully I like it. Mainly got it for tekken and streetfighter.
I started FG's on keyboard back in 2010 and there were no resources for anything other than the fightsticks. It was blasphemy to play on anything other than a lever. It's completely baffling to watch how much the viewpoints on legality and input-device diversity has changed over the past decade.
Thank you so much for the tutorial, it's honestly the best I've ever seen! Could you ask me a question please? Do you usually use your right or left thumb more to do the jump? Greetings from Brazil!
fun fact apparently ps4 pad registers dpad and the stick at the same time so you technically can use both and evo has allowed it just thinking of the way you gotta hold it to do that makes my head hurt though lol
I really wanted to play hitbox. This is the only guide that's decent even amongst the high-level players. Your channel will go places don't give up.
th-cam.com/channels/HWmIRjSRFmGLn8S1wjvQzQ.html this is the channel has the original makers explaining inputs
That instant-air DP motion "trick" just blew my mind. It absolutely makes sense, why it must work, it just never occurred to me to try it even after playing on keyboards / hitboxes for 2 years now. Thanks a lot for sharing this!

I’m in the same boat but I’m playing tekken
@@uzla Tekken 8 looks cool, I wanna try that eventually too

Legit, I was on fence of getting a hitbox, now After watching this, I just purchased a hitbox. I can't wait to learn now.
I don't generally comment, but my Hitbox just came in today and it had my mind blown. I really appreciate this guide as it helped clear up a couple things. My guilty gear combos thank you!

Lmao. "Your movement is upgraded... to Shmovement". That line got my sub.
you’ve inspired me to pick up a hit box for GG Strive. this mushy dualsense D-pad has my thumb callused already and my movement is rough. gotta get good before online tourneys start
Did you get one?

This is dope, I’m just getting started on hitbox full time so I appreciate the guide and having everything in place
"Who gets hit in one frame?
I certainly do... all the goddamn time" loool I felt that
Coming from smash, I wanted to think of it as a dedicated jump button rather than an up button
Without a doubt the best Hitbox guide I've come across. Thanks for making this!
This has got to be the best hitbox video on youtube. Convinced me to give the Snack Box Micro a shot.
the SOCD that comes with the brooks UFB prevents multiple illegal inputs and from what I understand the SOCD is required to use a hitbox in tournaments
Left and right at the same time reads as nothing with an SOCD
Such a fantastic guide! Thanks for this contribution to the FGC! Would love to see you come back with more content!

Thank you for this video. I'm just starting my hitbox journey and this gave me a good amount of motivation.
up being on the thumb is because the idea of a leverless controller stems from player fighting games on PC where you have access to keyboard and on keyboard your jump button is almost always, unless you use alternate layouts, spacebar with your thumb
down + up = up is due to your stick's SOCD cleaner, not "fighting games"
This is by far the best, most insightful instruction on hitboxes, and possibly fighting games that I've seen. Absolutely linking to this when people see my mad home built xbox 360 carcass hitbox.
I've found that thinking of the up button as jump rather than up helps me
ASD Space makes so much sense for those of us accustomed to PC gaming, I love this design
This reminds me of the late 90s where a friend of mine used his keyboard for Street Fighter on PC. He'd do the same thing with the arrow keys (and never pick Zangief). I decided then I would generally avoid using keyboard inputs (guess who I main).
I think this convinced me to build a hitbox for Strive. My keyboard warrior days are finally over!
When I first tried a keyboard with hitbox layout, the movement was very intuitive but the attack button layout was so difficult I couldn't get over it. Using my thumb for everything was so easy on pad. Might try again some day
About to get my first leverless, I will remember the horse thank you
Really good video! I'm in the process of ordering a case and parts to build my own hitbox so I'll be sure to come back to this video once I get everything and put it together!
Thank u moopoke glad you like it
How’d it go?
Due to the current situation, I can't get a hitbox, so I'll practice on keyboard until I get one in my hands

As someone who plays MkK1 with this, I find it useful to have kameo as the button you put as a fake one.
Wicked guide, mine is arriving next week defo I am watching this again and again to help me through...Thanks.
How'd it go for u
That box is so sick. My fav colors green and blue and I love that green. I hope to be able to get one made like that
I've been playing fighting games on keyboard for a long time before hit boxes even came out. I use asd-Spacebar-uio-jkl as my layout. Same thing as a hit box really.

just got my junkfood snack board mini. this guide was super helpful, much appreciated 👍
This surprisingly entertaining, but I've also learned a good amount from this, thank you
I just shifted from a PS4 Pad to HitBox. This video was veryyyyy useful!.
Beautifully explained and I’m going to start using doohickey more in everyday conversation 😂
This is a really really informative video! If anyone ever asks me about hitbox controls for dbfz and what it takes, learning curves and things to know. I'll just send em over to this video. Everything was explained well so I'm definitely subbing rn
I saw a hit box and was like that thing makes no sense looks like trash and now
I’m
In love with them
This is a real slick box
The jump button on a leverless controller is just like how other games use WASD for movement and space bar for jump.
I use a Haute 42 T13 and I love that the M1 button above the down button is up. hitbox comes in two days. This video got me hyped for the grind. Nice video.
Nobody asked sadly. L + Ratio + YB better 🤡😭💀
this guide is awesome was having problems figuring out how to 1 frame axl bomber. Thanks!
Very detailed even in the advanced new players need this.
just want to stress on the TK explanation of your own method how important the plink of up and attack is for the input to come out.
Thanks for your video, just bought a fightbox and learning how to use it
It's a bit confusing but thanks for the tutorial
i especially loved the defense tutorial.... too cute
I used to stop by your streams I have now switched to hitbox entirely so this was cool to see
Very comprehensive, this gives me a lot of insight on the hitbox. I've been eyeballing them. Thank you.
I was curious about hitboxes, but seeing this layout now, I think i'll stick to my keyboard lol
By far the best hitbox guide! Much thanks!
super helpful. trying to switch to hitbox this month for Tekken 8
I've been thinking on getting one. Specially the low profile ones.
Now I want to buy one but it’s sold out. I tried looking at other hitbox style controllers too and they’re all sold out
Nice in-depth tutorial on how to use a hitbox. Looks pretty simple as compared to using a fightstick. 😊👍🏻✌🏻🤘🏻
Thank you! Appreciated this! Its the best tuts out there on hit box :)
Great video as I'm working on learning how to use a hitbox efficiently. The input motions toward the end was the most useful section for me. I'm a pc gamer and keyboard lover. I always felt in disadvantage playing on my keyboard and I'm looking forward to buy a hitbox
Oh yes enlighten me I just ordered mines and it comes tomorrow
What kind of buttons are in your controller? I love the way they sound!
Damn your fightstick is clean
I have a mpress hitbox coming soon and I'm excited to finally get to use one. This was a really comprehensive video i appreciate the attention to detail thanks allot. I know it's going to take me awhile to get use to the movement but wow it looks super smooth like it you are playing a piano

playing with a keyboard does the same actually, you can put textures stickers on used keys to help
Just bought a snack box micro, awesome guide!
With a pad you can hold down on d pad and up on analog for perfect flash kick
I wonder how you can half circle motions with Gold-Louis Dickinson?
Mann and I was thinking how ppl are not going backwards while charging and my reads were always wrong hot damn you are right!
Thanks this video was really great and helped me learn a lot!
Great video! You just convinced me to try hitbox. It really resembles when I used to play on keyboard

Probably the best explained and most helpful video on this topic. Thanks ^^b
as a mkx injustice 2 player i’m bouta buy
Thanks for the tips!!
I feel like this is a fighting pad that helps with your typing skills as well
Really appreciate the breakdown. :)
I used one at a friend's house, thumb being jump felt intuitive from PC
#UpIsNotJump
Thank you for this video, it's been helpful learning!
Think of up as the space bar. Space bar is the default jump key in almost every single game.
fun fact apparently ps4 pad registers dpad and the stick at the same time so you technically can use both and evo has allowed it
just thinking of the way you gotta hold it to do that makes my head hurt though lol
is it normal that my left ring finger hurts? or I'm just doing something wrong LOL
For now at some reason my hand think that UP button is move character Right... Well i think i will fix it in few hours
thank you! that last note got me to confirm that subscribe button.. Great vid
