I think the thing I enjoy most about so much of their music, in particular the video presentations, is that they aren’t an overwhelming constant cry to, “Look at me! Look at us! We are so fabulous! Can you believe how fantastic we are? Look at us!” Far from the majority of the popular music industry attitude that blows up the egos of the performers, The Smile’s focus is on the music itself… the song. It does make me smile.
[Verse 1] We overflow in a hurricane We overflow in a hurricane We can feel no pain It's so close that we disappear Through this narrow gap The narrow gap that you leave us in [Verse 2] We can slide through this narrow gap The narrow gap that you leave us in And we feel you near But so close that you disappear [Chorus] While holding on to the sides Like a wind blows its emptiness Yes is not a real yes Not a real yes [Verse 3] Emptiness has many forms The only thing is to listen It has many forms And loneliness is a way to drown [Chorus] While holding on to the sides While a wind blows emptiness Yes is not a real yes Not a real yes
Almost sounds like a lost Ok Computer ballad, but with the textures and string arangements of a newer era... Absolutely one of my favorite cuts from Cutouts.
They never cease to amaze me and also give me hope of life with the beauty of their songs. Every single piece of Music Thom puts his voice to is a diamond 💎
Fell in love with this song when I first heard it during their Amsterdam show and have been listening to live versions ever since. This song is such a masterpiece and it immediately pulled all my heartstrings making me sob from start to finish. It reminds me of everything I love about 1990s Radiohead.
this is such a true and honest album about so many things, especially about human loneliness and its relationship with the modern world. I feel in the lyrics and melodies a feeling of dealing with the vulnerabilities and uncertainties of life, but without despair, with peace and resilience. This song in particular has a lot of that. while transmitting a serene peace.
I recently leanerd that our taste in music is like the mute sound that we have on loop inside our head, its kind of hard to explain so I see it as the representation of how our mind sounds like
This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Like XTC meets the Beatles run through the Smile’s bizarre filter. Best use if strings in popular music I’ve heard in a long time. These guys keep surprising me. Hopefully next year they release three albums.
Listening to this for the first time on a random bench I stumbled on halfway into a hike through the English countryside. Making the most of what I expect will be one of the last sunny autumn days before the winter sets in. Life can be lonely sometimes but it's moments like this that make it worth sticking around for.
The never ending flow. Connected to the ether. Thom is locked into a frequency in which he downloads from. As a song writer myself, I know it exists. However, it only serves you if you work every day.
Do Any of you remember coming across Pablo Honey and just knowing in your being this is special! I've been listening to this for the very first time. I stumbled across the news that a new band featuring Thom in it was out, by complete hapenstance! I'm 48 at a very different juncture in my life, from when I got into Radiohead. This is ..... I thought of a million different words. Superlative came to the top! It made me feel hope and all that energy of youth again, but it's more than that, is that wierd?
Lovee the relaxing , hypnotic feel of Thoms' voice blending to perfection with the music. Those acoustics heal me.❤ Thank you to The Smile 🙏🏻 Love to all the community while we travel down this river.😻🏴🌠
You can hear n feel the Hindi influence jonny has been soaking up. Reminds me of another genius guitarist who took on hindi. Harrison , Beatles era sounding
Hmm... That's an nteresting observation. I never heard of those names. So, I went and listened to the instrumental "Weissensee" by Nue!. And I do notice a sonic similarity to "Instant Psalm". I wondered if the similarity was coincidental. But, it turns out, the Nue! song cited above is from the 1972 eponymous debut album by the duo of Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger after leaving Kraftwerk in 1971. In this case, I doubt the similarity is coincidental, but perhaps something of an homage.

Emotions of desire to make everyone die of boredom
This is one of those songs that makes me tear up. This song is beautiful! Its my favorite from the Cutouts album right now.
the same feeling with Foreign Spies and Bodies Laughing!

@@jack-uv6mt the radiohead song "i promise"
"I promise" is the only song thom put out that I dont like
I can also hear a lot of what Thom created for the Suspiria soundtrack.

Man, this song has been like a hug since it came out, chefs kiss👌
[Verse 1]
We overflow in a hurricane
We overflow in a hurricane
