Strangely enough I was in Bath last week and visited the Jane Austen museum there….that’s a gorgeous pen…and yes Colin Firth IS Mr Darcy….. just stunning x
Happy Birthday ! 🎉 Please do yourself a favour and also watch the BBC miniseries version of Pride&Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, it is so much closer to the book than the movie. Don‘t get me wrong, I love the movie and now seeing Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennet will always break my heart, but Colin Firth IS Mr. Darcy, there are no 2 opinions on that. 😂 I actually transcribed P&P last year and went on to Sense&Sensibility this year. Enjoy your gorgeous pen, I‘m a little envious, I have to admit… 😊
I totally agree 💯. The BBC Adaptation Classic of Pride and Prejudice is the best with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehrle.

I got mine in last week and have been enjoying it immensely. I'm not the biggest Austen fan, but I like the color scheme and design of the pen enough to pick it up. I agree it pairs nicely with the Glacier series, I have the Le Grande version. Right now I have all my Writer's Editions seated next to each other - Christie, Doyle and Austen. I also managed to get my hands on some new old stock of the Boheme purple retractable pen, so I will keep adding on to that line too.
I agree with you the name Umber doesn't really suit the ink color. It comes through as more of a smokey purple instead of an Umber, but they attempted to mix an ink that was as close to what Austen used to self mix and write with.
I have the following Montblancs: 149, Edgar Allen Poe, & Agatha Christie (perhaps others as well; I haven't been through my cigar boxes lately, so I'm not sure). I have pens with metal sections, but don't use them often. Your Austen Montblanc is pretty. I describe the cap color as Federal Blue. I enjoy your fountain pen enthusiasm, and envy you your excursions. I'm an old guy and have trouble getting around. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
Umber is a fitting name for that ink; it essentially means "shade," which is why the word umbrella means "little shade."

Gorgeous pen, and Happy Birthday! Hope you enjoyed Pride & Prejudice, probably one of my most favorite books. First read it in AP English high school senior year, and one of our teachers commented that he read the book every year because it displays a mastery of the English language. I love both the Kiera Knightley/Matthew MacFadyen version of the movie immensely, but as others have said, I will always view Colin Firth at Mr. Darcy. And if you have fallen down the Jane Austen rabbit hole, I would also recommend the series Lost in Austen and Becoming Jane with Anne Hathaway (which the story is based upon a couple of letters Jane Austen wrote to her sister). I love all things Austen, so I also second those who mentioned the movie “The Jane Austen Book Club.” Congratulations again, on this beautiful pen. 🌸

Happy Belated Birthday! Your beautiful new Mont Blanc pen reminds me of how I first fell in love with fountain pens as a child. When I was 5 years old I came down with some childhood illness and my mother took me to see our family doctor. I remember so clearly, after the exam we went back into Dr. Balotin’s office and he started writing all of his notes about the visit in my folder. I was transfixed on the pen he was writing with, a big beautiful burgundy pen that made a sound as he wrote pen to paper that has stayed with me my entire life. I honestly can still hear it in my head like it was yesterday, 60 years later. Though I was only 5, I could not get that pen and that sound out of my head. I can even remember dreaming about that pen. When I was 8 years old and in the doctor’s office yet again because I had asthma, I finally got up the nerve to ask him about that pen. It was a gift from his father when he graduated medical school and he has used it everyday since. He told me all about that Meisterstuck 149 and how much it meant to him. I became even more obsessed than I was before. I convinced my mother to buy me this inexpensive calligraphy cartridge pen set that cemented my lifelong love of these extraordinary writing instruments. When I was a teenager I saved money from my first job and purchased a used Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 146 because the 149 was way out of my budget. Over the many years since my first real fountain pen purchase my collection has grown, but to this day I still have not purchased my holy grail pen the Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 149. Someday……………
Just purchased the Jane Austen pen in the roller ball writing mode for a birthday gift for a special someone. I initially was going to get the fountain. You cant go wrong with either or!

You might also enjoy seeing the movie “The Jane Austen Book Club”. Very enjoyable.
You have to go back to your writting with this pen. They do turned out to be an “amber” colour as opposed to its “gray” shade. This ink is very intersting. I have one and was surprised that it changes colour. Its beautiful.

This is the first time I have ever seen the Montblanc Jane Austen pen and it is stunning!!! I never expect to invest in a pen anywhere near the price I assume this one has but enjoyed celebrating your birthday gift with you, congrats!!! I rejoice with you and always enjoy watching your videos even though they have made me want to spend more than I can afford, but I get over it. LOL, I so enjoy the fountain pens that I have purchased regardless of the price; they give me joy!

My favorite adaptation is from the 90s it is a mini series and is six episodes it is the truest to the book. I do like the Kira version as well. I love all the Jane Austen Novels... Happy birthday! I’m a bit surprised by a ‘collaboration’ with Jane Austen who wrote with a goose quill. The colours of the pen are lovely, but my taste in Pens was shaped in the early to mid 1970s when they were all slim. I love the ink though!

Happy birthday! I have the Montblanc Starwalker Metal and Rubber Diamond cut, released in 2003. This was actually my first fountain pen after a long period of various calligraphy pens. Among all my fountain pens the Starwalker is still my favourite. I have been eyeing the Jane Austen, but still not made my decision. Thanks for sharing!

I've been looking at this pen online so it was nice to see size comparisons and how it looks in your hand. It's quite a. substantial cap and disproportionally. small nib for the pen in my opinion. But I am confident it writes like a dream and will be gorgeous displayed on your desk. The Jane Austen is the only special edition that has tempted me so I need to get to a boutique and meet her in person! Thanks for your review!

This pen is so me. I almost went with the Arthur Conan Doyle Montblanc FP but in the end, it felt too masculine. This is more like it. Plus I collect Jane Austen. I know what you mean about investing in a pen. Once in a lifetime. The purchase experience makes it memorable! Good for you! ❤️

Stunning pen. I have found the ink colour name not lining up with the swatch with a few Montblanc inks. Sometimes the name is spot on and other times you get a colour that is supposed to be brown that is actually grey.
Mine is coming on Tuesday, and I'm so excited. It will be my first MB. Unfortunately, after watching this video, I'm also looking up the glacier doué because that is also so pretty! 😅 I guess if this one doesn't suit me, I'll have one to exchange it for. Also Happy Birthday! 🥳

Greetings from Panama. My name is Nelson Hernandez. I also collect fountain pens and inks, in fact, I have special edition Montblanc inks like the Robert L. Stevenson one (one of my favorites), I have Manganese Orange (a fun and cheerful color), I have the Gustav Klimt special edition, the Little Prince one, the Meisterstück anniversary edition, Coral9 (Very elegant), the classic black, Irish Green (another of my favorites) and Modena Red. I also have inks from the Wearingeul brand (I don't recommend the ones with glitter). This brand creates inks based on classic books. I have Cowardly Lion (brown) from the Wizard of Oz, Turquoise Blue from Robinson Crusoe and Pearl Red from Captain Hook... I have more than 15 pens, some of my favorites are HongDian, JinHao, Parker, Picasso, Ferris Wheel Carousel edition, Lamy SAfary and Al Star, MonteVerde... I try to make my pens have the same color of the ink. I'm saving up to buy the special edition of Robert L. Stevenson or the Little Prince... because Im also a writer too... some day I can buy me a Mont Blanc and of course... a Namiki fountain pen (those are big words!)... when I buy my firts ever montblanc ink I was in heaven, I cant image when I can buy a fountain pen!!!
I'm surprised by the ink. Saying that is 'umber' would definitely lead one to expect a greyish brown. But this is more like a blue with just a hint of brown. Interesting. My personal favourite Montblanc ink is Miles Davis Jazz Blue special edition, which is a kind of sky blue colour. I got given a little bottle of it by a boutique here in the UK as a gift a while back. But now it seems pretty much sold out, alas.

You can fit almost any fountain pen into your planners by putting in the clips rather than the bodies of the pens.

With the name Umber I was hoping the JA ink would make me think of the Swan Illusion. (I had seen a swatch that looked brownish.). But then I learned it has a purple-ish presentation. This is a beautiful ink indeed. However, I am unforgiving for the discontinuation of Swan Illusion.

I cannot believe any pen is worth over $1000! I have been using fountain pens for many years and not one of them was over $50 and they all perform very nicely. What exactly makes this pen worth it?
