I regret not picking it up back in the day, it looks beautiful and fun. I was turned off from Wario since his portrayal in SSBB, but I used to love the WarioLand GB games.
That's because while it looks good, unlike cuphead the music is pretty atrocious (it sounds like a saturday morning cartoon) and the gameplay isn't much fun at all. I'm a big wario fan and it was a disappointment for me.

Aside from the goofy looking transformations, when playing as Wario the "tough guy" vibe really resonated with me Wario is portrayed as many things, a rival to Mario, an anti hero, a guy who is weird or goofy, comic relief, or just flat out a lazy guy driven by greed. But to me, playing as Wario feels more relatable of a character than Mario, it feels like I'm actually playing as somebody from real life. To me, playing as Wario either feels like playing as the drunk uncle of the family, or playing as a football player who is absolutely killing it
I agree with the Macho Wario statement, for me, that's the best interpretation of the character and the definitive one, sad Nintendo decided to make him the other way around lol. Wario is cool anyways! WAH!

They tend to a mixture of his gross and macho interpretations, though they do favor gross. This is probably why they redid the animations on his moves in Sm4sh so they could get more of his machoness

Let's make a game where Wario has to rescue Hen, his pet chicken. Best ending requires a lot of money to unlock, and all the secret treasures. Bad ending is that while he rescued his pet, he was given quite a middle finger by Captain Syrup while he was on his rescue mission.
Unfortunately there's a reason you haven't heard of it. I'm a big Wario/ Warioland fan and it was disappointing for a number of reasons. But you should be able to find it cheap, so try it for yourself!
PocoDoco I personally think it's one of the most underrated games I know of. It looks beautiful, plays really solid, lots of personality, great platforming level design, secrets to unlock, and can at times be REALLY challenging.
I'm a really big Wario Land fan too, and first I did find Shake It underwhelming as well for some reason. Then years after I picked it up again, because I didn't remember why I didn't like it that much. This time though, I started 100%-ing every stage. and I actually felt like it was really rewarding to master every stage. I had much more fun this time around, so now I can only recommend it.
I'm also a Wario Land fan, and I can say Wario Land Shake It is a very great game and it's worth it. Other Wario Land game that I recommend you to play is Wario Land 2 on Gameboy/GB Color which is also great
Man, its such a shame about Wario Land Shake It's unpopularity overall, I thought it was a really beautiful game with lovely animation, level design, music and I especially loved quite a few of the bosses. It was the most fun I had had with a Wario platformer since Wario Land 4.
Shiro-Luna, why isn't there a game that plays as World when the Switch is docked, and changes to 32bit graphics and plays as Land when UnDocked! For that matter, OtherM, but better, where the whole game plays in 1st person when UnDocked.

Nintendo, I don't think you'll see this, but give us a Wario & Waluigi RPG game. The story could be about them trying to find this massive treasure that's hidden away in a far off land. Along the way, they must deal with a bad guy (maybe Bowser? I mean, why not?) who is also looking for the treasure because supposedly the treasure has magical powers that can grant whoever has it quite a lot of power. Along the way, they work together with Captain Maple and her pirate crew, and we would even find out what the connection is between Wario and Waluigi (are they brothers? Cousins?), and maybe even figure out why they despise Mario and Luigi so much for. It would be a great concept for a game imo. Give it to us, Nintendo! Please!!!
Story aside, I also dream of a Wario & Waluigi Saga title (or also Peach & Daisy why not, but I miss a main Wario game, and a Waluigi game is needed). But I also know this will probably remain a dream T^T
They kinda do (Though some love him to death). The only reason Waluigi even exists was to be Wario's sidekick in team-based spin-offs. They're not even brothers, but rather "kindred spirits". Waluigi has also (apparently) been voted by GameDaily as one of the characters they wish they could kill off.
GameDaily was ahead of it's time. I am actually surprised people like Waluigi at all, everyone i know hates him, tough in hind sight a lot of that hate came about after he replaced Donkey Kong in Mario Party.
I recently played Wario Land 4 again on GBA, and I must say that it is one of the best GBA games imo, maybe even the best Wario game. The graphics are spot on. The colours are beautiful and the sprite work is very well done. Level design is also top notch. Having to go to the end of the level to hit the exit switch to then have to rush back to the beginning but now with new areas open to you is great design. Oh and the music, for GBA standards is fantastic. The only flaw is that the game is pretty short, featuring only like 17 levels. However, the game has great replayability because of the difficulty levels. Each difficulty level changes the locations of the jewels you need to advance, changes enemies making them harder, you have less health, shorter timer to get back to the entrance and some other design changes. It is one of my favourite games :)
Oh yes, I completed it a lot of times, each difficulty is almost a new level design, in some cases literally! You complete it once and you feel strong. Then you do it hard-mode and is challenging. Then comes the Very hard (I don't know your reaction but when I saw how much time was given at last level before final boss I didn't want to believe it xD) Well-crafted and designed is reductive
Wario Land 4 is one of my childhood games! I loved how the controls felts and the music always stuck with me (especially Wildflower Fields' theme). The only Wario game that tops it for me is Wario Land 2, only because it's not as obtuse as Wario Land 3, there's more content overall and just as much replayability.

I agree. My first game was Super Mario advance for GBA. Then from christmas I receive Wario Land 4. I can say that I really enjoy the game and the character. Wario looks really macho, greedy and goofy. That’s why is my main character in all Super Smash bros games.
Wario Land 4 is my favorite Wario game. Even though there are few levels, they feel very fleshed out, with imaginative themes and some of the best pixel art I've ever seen in any game. And as you say, the music is amazing. It's my favorite soundtrack in the series and one of my favorite video game soundtracks period. Heck, WL4 is one of my favorite GAMES, period. I probably play through it at least once a year. And as someone else in this thread pointed out, the game does have an eerie feel to it. The Wario series has a habit of going a lot darker than the Mario series usually does [see the ending of Master of Disguise and the entirety of Wario World] and I think that's part of what makes it stand out. WL4 does the best job of this, though, if you want my opinion. The worlds feel empty and lonely, the bosses are all horrific abominations against nature, and the implied narrative of what happened to Princess Shokora is actually pretty sad. Although Wario has always been intended as a primarily humorous character, that was never all he was about--this guy has stormed pirate strongholds alone and killed literal demons [four, by my count: Rudy, the Golden Diva, Terrormisu and the Black Jewel]. I can add from the interview he quotes in this video that it was Wario Land 4 in particular that influenced Shake It!, which explains the design philosophy used in hiding its collectibles and the mad dash back to the entrance halfway through each level. Shake It! is not my favorite Wario game by a long shot, but it is still amazing and a worthy successor to the series. I sincerely hope that Nintendo eventually remembers that microgames are not the only thing Wario is capable of. In the right hands, he really can be awesome. Cheers and wah on.
Wario Land Shake It is one of the most gorgeous video games ever, it's a shame it doesn't play nearly as well as other entries in the Wario series. Also, "he's so uncool he ends up being extremely cool" pretty much nails Wario. My personal favorite video game character

Tbf, Miyamoto just adopted the character, but doesn’t know a damn about the character, nor seems to really care much about it, just look at how in Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi did get some of his Yoshi’s Island moves, while Wario was simply made a stronger, slower, heavier Mario, while not giving him anything that would link him to Wario Land even if that may have improved his gameplay because mother, was he slow as heck in that game, just giving him his Shoulder Bash should’ve done the job so nicely. Miyamoto would rather care for his own children first and foremost, and that’s to be respected...but Wario feels like he’s been left in the corner for way too long, even a lot of people nowadays don’t seem to care much about Wario himself anymore UNLESS Waluigi is involved, a character who’s main reason to existing is to pair him with Wario in Mario spin-offs and has become a popular meme character
Wario is the freakin' bomb. As much as I respect Sakurai for his hard work and everything he's done in the industry, I cannot forgive his recent treatment of Wario and his franchise overall. Yes, Wario has always been silly, but not "non-stop farting, nose picking and gluttony" silly. I probably would've been a bit more forgiving of this depiction had his franchise received better treatment in Smash Bros. Where are the trophies? Why the lack of music, most of it reused from Brawl? What about Wario Land? Wario has a catalogue of games to take inspiration from, yet Sakurai blatantly refuses to acknowledge them. Why? I still remember a time where a Wario title was all but guaranteed every couple of years, but these days is now as likely as a new F-Zero. What happened? Where has my Wario gone? Nintendo, We want, no, *need* Wario back in our lives.

Wario has always been one of my favorite characters in Nintendo. Pretty much do to that whole Macho thing that was mentioned in the video. Not to mention him being the star to two very solid series.
Funfact: Waluigi is the only canonical Marioverse character that wasn't developed internally at Nintendo. He was actually invented by Camelot specifically for their Mario sports games, since Wario needed a partner. My guess is that THIS is the reason that Nintendo has never developed his character; he literally is the stepchild of the franchise.

So many elements in this game could and should've been used for a Sonic game, the speed running parts, bits where he repels off walls, drills through them, jumps into cannons. Tell me that couldn't be sonic, he is fast anyway and the wall drilling is present in Spinball and original Sonic 1. Take a look Sega!

I would dig a new Wario World game, where it has a deeper plot, cutscenes, a power-up system, and Waluigi for simultaneous co-op. It's be amazing to do Bros. moves, similar to what the Mario & Luigi RPGs do. Also, a WarioWare-Wario Land crossover where you actually play as the different WarioWare characters. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it every time I listen to SiIvaGunner's Steady Now rip from Smooth Moves. I can just see an escape sequence level set to that song where you have to power through on the Wario Chopper!
I mean, Waluigi doesn't even appear on Wario ware games, by that point you have to assume Nintendo doesn't want him anywhere near an important role, and we are all much better off because of it. Even on Wario ware alone there's tons of FAR more interesting characters than the empty husk of creative stagnation that goes by Waluigi.

Why? Waluigi is the very definition of stagnated creativity. I am honestly surprised he wasn't originally created as a fan character by a grade schooler, his whole shtick is, ''it's Wario, but skinny and without charm'' Wario doesn't get enough attention as it is, despite his long history, the last thing we need is Waluigi trying to butt into the spot light.
I can kinda see where Garcia's coming from. The base of his character design is nothing more than evil Luigi. But if you look at his characteristic qualities, he's far from being a fan OC. For one, he lacks excessive amounts of edginess.

Two mistakes - the bomb minigame comes from New Super Mario Bros, and the frog game is called "The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls", "For the Frog, the Bell Tolls" or any other combination of words that actually make grammatical sense.
Classic Macho Wario really needs more love. I don't like the way they changed his character for WarioWare into a weird, twitchy, farting machine. Warioland is one of my favorite GB games and that's how I'll always think of Wario, as the character he was originally created to be: greedy and macho. Thanks for this video. Wario Land Shake It is really good. The visuals and the music are my favorite part, they're so perfect. The main game isn't that difficult, but holy crap are the challenges hard!

I need a Wario Bros. game with Waluigi, that has gameplay closer to New Super Mario Bros, still retaining some Warioland elements, that has good guy enemies. Like different types of Toads, Princess Peach’s castle guardsmen, and some redesigned cute and nice versions of existing Mario enemies. Everybody wants to see Waluigi in a platformer, so New Super Wario Bros seems like a no-brainer. Or call it Old Super Wario Guys Land
I love Smash as much as the next guy and I can respect Sakurai's work, especially on reinventing the Kid Icarus series, but the Smash series imo has been a huge discredit to Wario as a character. Why they would focus so much on the Ware side of him and not from the actual action games he starred in is really mind boggling. I love gross and weird Wario, but I also love macho, treasure hunter tough-guy Wario. The fact that his traditional yellow outfit isn't even his default in those games, really goes a long way to showing how much of the franchise they actually care about for him.

I mean, why not?) who is also looking for the treasure because supposedly the treasure has magical powers that can grant whoever has it quite a lot of power. Along the way, they work together with Captain Maple and her pirate crew, and we would even find out what the connection is between Wario and Waluigi (are they brothers? Cousins?), and maybe even figure out why they despise Mario and Luigi so much for. It would be a great concept for a game imo. Give it to us, Nintendo! Please!!!
Story aside, I also dream of a Wario & Waluigi Saga title (or also Peach & Daisy why not, but I miss a main Wario game, and a Waluigi game is needed). But I also know this will probably remain a dream T^T

Thankfully, it seems as tough Nintendo hates Waluigi almost as much as i.
They kinda do (Though some love him to death). The only reason Waluigi even exists was to be Wario's sidekick in team-based spin-offs. They're not even brothers, but rather "kindred spirits". Waluigi has also (apparently) been voted by GameDaily as one of the characters they wish they could kill off.
GameDaily was ahead of it's time.
I am actually surprised people like Waluigi at all, everyone i know hates him, tough in hind sight a lot of that hate came about after he replaced Donkey Kong in Mario Party.
I recently played Wario Land 4 again on GBA, and I must say that it is one of the best GBA games imo, maybe even the best Wario game. The graphics are spot on. The colours are beautiful and the sprite work is very well done. Level design is also top notch. Having to go to the end of the level to hit the exit switch to then have to rush back to the beginning but now with new areas open to you is great design. Oh and the music, for GBA standards is fantastic. The only flaw is that the game is pretty short, featuring only like 17 levels. However, the game has great replayability because of the difficulty levels. Each difficulty level changes the locations of the jewels you need to advance, changes enemies making them harder, you have less health, shorter timer to get back to the entrance and some other design changes. It is one of my favourite games :)
Oh yes, I completed it a lot of times, each difficulty is almost a new level design, in some cases literally!
You complete it once and you feel strong. Then you do it hard-mode and is challenging. Then comes the Very hard (I don't know your reaction but when I saw how much time was given at last level before final boss I didn't want to believe it xD)

Wario Land 4 is one of my childhood games! I loved how the controls felts and the music always stuck with me (especially Wildflower Fields' theme). The only Wario game that tops it for me is Wario Land 2, only because it's not as obtuse as Wario Land 3, there's more content overall and just as much replayability.

I agree. My first game was Super Mario advance for GBA. Then from christmas I receive Wario Land 4. I can say that I really enjoy the game and the character. Wario looks really macho, greedy and goofy. That’s why is my main character in all Super Smash bros games.
Wario Land 4 is my favorite Wario game. Even though there are few levels, they feel very fleshed out, with imaginative themes and some of the best pixel art I've ever seen in any game. And as you say, the music is amazing. It's my favorite soundtrack in the series and one of my favorite video game soundtracks period. Heck, WL4 is one of my favorite GAMES, period. I probably play through it at least once a year.
And as someone else in this thread pointed out, the game does have an eerie feel to it. The Wario series has a habit of going a lot darker than the Mario series usually does [see the ending of Master of Disguise and the entirety of Wario World] and I think that's part of what makes it stand out. WL4 does the best job of this, though, if you want my opinion. The worlds feel empty and lonely, the bosses are all horrific abominations against nature, and the implied narrative of what happened to Princess Shokora is actually pretty sad. I can understand why the designers of Shake It! decided to go for a more 'mature' or 'manly' direction with Wario after playing the older Wario Land games. There is definitely a lot of slapstick humor in there, but it's nothing like the unending fart joke Wario has turned into today. Although Wario has always been intended as a primarily humorous character, that was never all he was about--this guy has stormed pirate strongholds alone and killed literal demons [four, by my count: Rudy, the Golden Diva, Terrormisu and the Black Jewel]. I can add from the interview he quotes in this video that it was Wario Land 4 in particular that influenced Shake It!, which explains the design philosophy used in hiding its collectibles and the mad dash back to the entrance halfway through each level. Shake It! is not my favorite Wario game by a long shot, but it is still amazing and a worthy successor to the series. I sincerely hope that Nintendo eventually remembers that microgames are not the only thing Wario is capable of. In the right hands, he really can be awesome.

Tbf, Miyamoto just adopted the character, but doesn’t know a damn about the character, nor seems to really care much about it, just look at how in Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi did get some of his Yoshi’s Island moves, while Wario was simply made a stronger, slower, heavier Mario, while not giving him anything that would link him to Wario Land even if that may have improved his gameplay because mother, was he slow as heck in that game, just giving him his Shoulder Bash should’ve done the job so nicely.

Wario is the freakin' bomb. As much as I respect Sakurai for his hard work and everything he's done in the industry, I cannot forgive his recent treatment of Wario and his franchise overall. Yes, Wario has always been silly, but not "non-stop farting, nose picking and gluttony" silly. I probably would've been a bit more forgiving of this depiction had his franchise received better treatment in Smash Bros.

Funfact: Waluigi is the only canonical Marioverse character that wasn't developed internally at Nintendo. He was actually invented by Camelot specifically for their Mario sports games, since Wario needed a partner. My guess is that THIS is the reason that Nintendo has never developed his character; he literally is the stepchild of the franchise.

So many elements in this game could and should've been used for a Sonic game, the speed running parts, bits where he repels off walls, drills through them, jumps into cannons. Tell me that couldn't be sonic, he is fast anyway and the wall drilling is present in Spinball and original Sonic 1. Take a look Sega!

I would dig a new Wario World game, where it has a deeper plot, cutscenes, a power-up system, and Waluigi for simultaneous co-op. It's be amazing to do Bros. moves, similar to what the Mario & Luigi RPGs do.
Also, a WarioWare-Wario Land crossover where you actually play as the different WarioWare characters. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it every time I listen to SiIvaGunner's Steady Now rip from Smooth Moves. I can just see an escape sequence level set to that song where you have to power through on the Wario Chopper!
I mean, Waluigi doesn't even appear on Wario ware games, by that point you have to assume Nintendo doesn't want him anywhere near an important role, and we are all much better off because of it.
Even on Wario ware alone there's tons of FAR more interesting characters than the empty husk of creative stagnation that goes by Waluigi.

I can kinda see where Garcia's coming from. The base of his character design is nothing more than evil Luigi. But if you look at his characteristic qualities, he's far from being a fan OC. For one, he lacks excessive amounts of edginess.

Classic Macho Wario really needs more love. I don't like the way they changed his character for WarioWare into a weird, twitchy, farting machine. Warioland is one of my favorite GB games and that's how I'll always think of Wario, as the character he was originally created to be: greedy and macho.

I need a Wario Bros. game with Waluigi, that has gameplay closer to New Super Mario Bros, still retaining some Warioland elements, that has good guy enemies. Like different types of Toads, Princess Peach’s castle guardsmen, and some redesigned cute and nice versions of existing Mario enemies. Everybody wants to see Waluigi in a platformer, so New Super Wario Bros seems like a no-brainer.

I love Smash as much as the next guy and I can respect Sakurai's work, especially on reinventing the Kid Icarus series, but the Smash series imo has been a huge discredit to Wario as a character. Why they would focus so much on the Ware side of him and not from the actual action games he starred in is really mind boggling. I love gross and weird Wario, but I also love macho, treasure hunter tough-guy Wario. The fact that his traditional yellow outfit isn't even his default in those games, really goes a long way to showing how much of the franchise they actually care about for him.
