Rockstar fixed damn near everthing that Grove Street got wrong and even updated the controls and added motion control for the Switch that greatly improves things. Rock Star didnt fumble this, the sales are already done, they took this trilogy and decided to fix it even though they didnt develop the remasters. Thats an important thing to know here. This definitive edition collection would have stayed broken forever if rockstar didnt decide to fix Grove Streets mess for the fans. I highly recommend watching Switch Ups video going through all the changes because this is pretty major. Since this last update by Rockstar i would say its now worth playing over the original copies on PS2 or OG Xbox
@Chris-techgamesfood Grove Street is the team who developed this Definitive Trilogy, they didnt do this update that fixes everything, Rockstar took it upon themselves to fix the game for fans because Grove Street aparently couldnt. It definitely should have been released in this state but its Grove Street who screwed it up, Rockstar are the ones who fixed it. This update is pretty impressive considering just how much they fixed. They even fixed the controls. This is finally worthy of playing. I still have my original copy gta san andreas that my mom got me christmas when i was only SEVEN or EIGHT! My brother told he to get it for me lol. One of the best gifts ever, i beat just about every mission i could. Makes me realize what weird time to grow up in.
What prevents me from playing these new remakes are the removal of original soundtracks. I'd rather play the original ones with the sound tracks it's what made these games so iconic. They make improvements as much as they want its just the same game but without the original songs. That's what make it different between the original and remakes.
The issue is for people who like physical copies, this updated patched version isn’t on the disc. Wish there was a way for the console to write to the disc or the publisher releasing an updated physical version.
I had no business playing this as a kid like I did. However, I remember taking a tow truck in San Andreas and hooking up cars, driving all the way up to the top of the mountain and driving off the cliff with them, and then just hearing the person scream in the background used to make me crack up as a kid.
As a musician, Rockstar doesn't wanna fork up the cash for the music. Prices have probably gone up since 2004, artists have probably died & it's now left in control of the estate/family & they may want more than what was originally bargained for, the only other reason i could think of that they wouldn't have the original soundtrack in the game besides cost is if the estate that owns the artist's music declined.. which why would they if it was already in there before? Also with the rise of these digital games being licensed to us themselves & not being permanently ours due to things like online only & other DRM specific things, they'd have to pay a perpetual fee to license the music for as long as the game was still available for sale. kinda like with the GTA 4 updates & how when they made everyone switch to the EFLC version, most of that soundtrack was gutted out too.
Right! That cartoon bs pisses me off so bad. It’s my fault for getting my hopes up😭ever since RE started doing their thing I thought the same would be true for GTA
I grew up with the og gta games and honestly had a fun time with the definitive edition. It’s definitely worth it if you can get it on a good sale, I wouldn’t pay full price though.
9:36 Take Two can afford whatever, V made billions, but VC had a better soundtrack when it made far less money. It's Take Two who tell R* what to do. Basically, make GTAO DLC to encourage Shark card microtransactions, and stopped them making story DLC (RDR2 especially needed an Undead Nightmare 2, and that was a terrible business decision not to). Also, limited the GTAV/O soundtrack to 90% cheapo unsigned unknown artists - hence why GTAVI is modern VC and not '80s VC, thus deliberately doing a bait and switch to give us another awful, cheap, bloated soundtrack. The '80s music, era, and radio humour was what made VC great. Sad T2 got so greedy.
Started playing this for the first time on the ps5 pro yesterday, and I was shocked at how HD the graphics were. Glad to see that I started playing at a time when this big update came out
The only way to definitive play this trilogy is owning the physical copies of the games on PlayStation 2, Xbox, or etc.. but I still own all of them on the PS2. Not have to worry about the radio stations having removed songs because of licencing and updates at all.
I still have the orginial version I downloaded on my Ps4 & before the def edition came out I did download it to my ps5 (which is no longer available) now just to be replaced with this edition
I still have all 3 originals digital on PS5. And both marvel ultimate alliances. If you paid for the originals they are still available to download you just cant buy them anymore
It's insane that it took them nearly 3 years to give us the bare essentials of the "remaster", i'm happy we got them but these should've been here day one. Don't get me wrong this update has done a lot of great stuff for this update, but they've still got work to do, I hope they continue to update them, because this is a definite step in the right direction, but there is still quite a ways to go before this is actually worthy of being called the "Definitive Edition" of any of these games.
Never played the definitive (my brothers own it) and I'm more of a retro guy and played the heck out of the ps2 and iOS version but these graphics look amazing I cannot complain one bit im glad they fixed it even though everyone complains it's "too late" now
I very much appreciate the work they've been been doing to improve the games and bring them to a higher quality. They don't have to, but I respect them for doing so in order to provide us with a better product. Should the trilogy originally have been released with higher quality standards? Yes, of course. The issue was that the project was outsourced to an inexperienced 3rd party team instead of Rockstar handling it themselves. Now that Rockstar is working on the project and providing updates, the quality of the trilogy has been improving.
This is a much, much needed update, but there still some issues and bugs that haven’t quite been ironed out yet. Hoping this isn’t the last update and we get a few more to make these games at least on par with the originals.
@@SoAaron_ I'm also thinking this. If it took them 3 years to go from a CP2077 tier launch, to this state, we're not getting anything else. DE is going to be a decent but not perfect way to play the games. You're probably better off just emulating them on pc or something

I am sending my friend a video on the differences between the OG and the definitive editon and i see you posted this 3 hours ago. The chances are so insanely slim its ridiculous. Wtf.
What Definitive edition has broken for me in Vice City and San Andreas the most was flying controls. In the old VC/SA, I could spend hours flying the helicopter upside down and having randon fun with it, e.g. flying under the bridges, etc. In SA even had the 'bridges route' over the sea/water area through the San Fierro/Las Venturas county/highway. In the Definitive edition they fucked up the controls so much.... that it's just unpilotable. Had to manually change control settings to make it better, but it's impossible to reproduce the old settings as some of the options just got merged together. Overall, you can forgive some minor stuff, graphical errors, etc., but fucking up the controls of the thing I enjoyed most in the old days - ooof.
9:36 you can see that they fixed the pop in objects like the rocks in the desert by giving them higher drawdistance and leaving the grass as he was for better fps.
Until this day I've never understood why companies doesn't hire modders, that people works for love and passion and make big things with small tools, meanwhile Rockstar workers spend 3 years to fix basic things of the game with the most powerful setup in this country, It's unbelievable.
Because the modders would be subjected to the same rules and restrictions as the other employees and would create similar results, since now they suddenly would have to deal with time and budget restraints.
@@PeskyCrowKaw Yeah but what you preferer, download a mod that fix everything in a game (like this remastered) or wait 3 years to fix It (not even everything, just "important bugs").
I still remember every single game on the PS2, hearing this review makes me want to get a PS2 to play them again on the OG console, for the radio stations alone.
I said it when it released and I'll say it now there's games are 100% still worth playing and completely enjoyable I have the trilogy on PS2 and play my PS2 often but I still prefer the definitive editions over the ogs.
I originally thought we were going to get a level of care that Capcom put into releasing Resident Evil remakes. One company treated it like their baby and the other just threw some shading and lighting over the exact same game and called it a day. Huge missed opportunity here
That's cuz RE remakes are remakes, not remaster like the DE. Its mainly just graphical and some gameplay improvements, not a new game made from the ground up. Definitely would've wanted a remake for all three though that would be fire if made by Rockstar
@idfk368 I understand the difference, but you can still very easily tell who put love and effort into their OG games and who slapped a reskin on to money gouge. Rockstar has the capabilities to make a high end remake, but this effort is what they felt their historic games deserved.
We should never forget how this was marketed to us. The initial teaser which was literally a press release telling us that Rockstar planned to commemorate the anniversary of (I think) Vice City, then nothing until the dawn of the release. Everyone thought we were getting the three games redone in the GTA V engine, meanwhile Rockstar let us all believe that, while knowing they had outsourced the project and didn't really care how bad a shape it released in. The one saving grace for R* is that they put one of the games on Game Pass day one, and a different one on PS Plus. Had they not done that and the gaming world's introduction to "the Definitive edition" was a full price, broken abomination, then I think things would be very different right now in terms of how Rockstar are regarded as a studio. It still blows my mind that they did not redo the trilogy in the latest engine. Yes, it would have required more work, but so did making an Xbox One/Ps4 version, as did a Series X/PS5 version of GTA V. Everyone thought that's what we were getting, and they let everyone think that too, that's the biggest crime IMO. And let's be honest, if that's what they'd delivered they'd be coining it. Maybe they're saving the best version for another generation.
Nothing will ever get close to what the originals were. It’s sad that they only made minor changes by just updating the originals inside unreal engine that’s still combined with the RenderWare Engine in the background. Because of this they added thousands of bugs and errors when the game launched that made R* and Take-Two look like clowns. All I wanted was for them to build everything up from scratch completely with Gta V & Gta IV mechanics so it fitted with the HD era instead of 3D era. For me the most important is controls, how game runs, atmosphere, game features etc, Graphics is the least important factor for me. That’s probably why I will always stick to the original III, VC and SA. And don’t forget that they killed so many mod projects by releasing the Defective Edition because mod creators got so scared that Take-Two was going to send private investigators to harass their family members.
1:53 its not that hard to tell a remaster and remake apart people 3:49 it has also been known since the game launched that the remasters were done by like 21 people within a year or so, it also isn't a main rockstar studio but one made for mobile and console ports

@@lalocorgan you havent even played it since the update. This looks so much better than it did before. Yes it should have been released like this but Rock Star isnt the Dev team behind the terrible release and atleast the games are fixed now.
Im glad we now have worthwhile collection of these titles for modern consoles.

I am so glad that the "Sorry, We're Closed" sign is no longer backwards in the Portland save house.
What prevents me from playing these new remakes are the removal of original soundtracks. I'd rather play the original ones with the sound tracks it's what made these games so iconic. They make improvements as much as they want its just the same game but without the original songs. That's what make it different between the original and remakes.
That's why I'm so glad I bought the og games before they got pulled from digital stores. The og soundtracks were part of the experience.
If its that big a deal you can just turn on spotify while you play lol or other music app. lol
If you have the PC version of the 3 games, you can add them back in with mods.
Just mod them back in...
Would think with all the money they make with GTA Online they could fork out the money for new music licenses for the games.
Lmao bro wtf I’m gonna try that today 🤣🤣🤣
You were a kid in 2004?
Bro lived my life
As a musician, Rockstar doesn't wanna fork up the cash for the music.
Should have had better contracts for them

I think this will be the last update and I think no matter what they do, definitive edition is fundamentally flawed
@@SoAaron_ I'm also thinking this. If it took them 3 years to go from a CP2077 tier launch, to this state, we're not getting anything else. DE is going to be a decent but not perfect way to play the games. You're probably better off just emulating them on pc or something

Overall, you can forgive some minor stuff, graphical errors, etc., but fucking up the controls of the thing I enjoyed most in the old days - ooof.
stop praising them for doing the bare minimum
9:36 you can see that they fixed the pop in objects like the rocks in the desert by giving them higher drawdistance and leaving the grass as he was for better fps.
We need a Saints Row 1&2 remake
Until this day I've never understood why companies doesn't hire modders, that people works for love and passion and make big things with small tools, meanwhile Rockstar workers spend 3 years to fix basic things of the game with the most powerful setup in this country, It's unbelievable.
Because the modders would be subjected to the same rules and restrictions as the other employees and would create similar results, since now they suddenly would have to deal with time and budget restraints.
Right. Rockstar could’ve hired modders for half the price and would’ve gotten people who would’ve given these remasters the care they deserve
Because adding a few things into an already developed game doesn't equal development skills.
@@PeskyCrowKaw Yeah but what you preferer, download a mod that fix everything in a game (like this remastered) or wait 3 years to fix It (not even everything, just "important bugs").

@LonghornsLegend oh yeah they definitely could've and should've remade them, least they could do with the lack of games these last years
It is kinda nice the menu tells you how many rampages you've finished in GTA 3 now, was never there before
They should add a choice to turn on the og graphics
That would be nice but classic lighting was probably the best they could do with what they had.
They have done it like that you can change it to the original lighting or the one it released with
We should never forget how this was marketed to us.
And the modders that were working on exactly what you described were shutdown and hit with a cease and desist
Seriously nobody mentioned @9:09 the GREEN background? What the hell is this all about??

1:53 its not that hard to tell a remaster and remake apart people
