    I just started doing audio recording 10 minutes ago, and watched a different how-to video of Mike's re: Audacity, and this suggested video came up. I watched this, and... if ever there was a sign that I'm on the right path, with that kind of timing, this is it. Amazing.

    Thanks, Mike. This is a great tip, as I am a Descript user. I just tried it and it is pretty amazing. I got a little warbling so it would be great if it were adjustable in the end. I used on a recording of my daughter and I recorded in a woodfloored room so it's a bit reverberant. Studio Sound brought the dialogue to the front and it was much stronger. The warble was more on my voice than hers. Definitely would use this, though.

    It's very impressive in how it seems to restore sounds. With that said, in the two old recordings some consonants were cut off (Never Give I(n), from Winston Churchill). It worked much better with echo removal as opposed to actually "restoring" frequencies that were not recorded in the first place.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As with any audio process you can never "create" something that's not in the recording where as you can remove something that's not

  • @paulsheppard2555
    @paulsheppard2555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Informative video as always, Mike. I just tried the studio sound button on a video of singing, a quartet singing acapella in English. It was a live performance, so the raw video has background noise and the quartet sounds distant. Result: the audio quality of the singing decreased, a lot. Is studio sound intended more for spoken dialog than for singing? Anything similarly effective and easy for videos of singing?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bear in mind the more unwanted noise in the audio the more the process to remove that noise is likely to impact the quality of the audio. This would be the same using Descript or any DAW with a noise reduction plugin.

    It’s very good. Not real time so great for post processing at the moment. Imagine when it is, how much physical technology will be obsolete, from sound processors to room acoustic treatment? I get the impression this isn’t descript’s main USP, just an afterthought to their speech to text service. Astonishing.

    Hi Mike, big fan of your videos. I thought Adobe Audition and Izotope software was as good as it gets until I recently started using Descript as well in my workflow. One question for you, if you happen to know the answer. When working on projects in Descript, it seems Studio Sound when enabled, will apply the enhancement to All files in the project. However, I have not been able to find an answer or figure out how to bypass on some of the files within a project in the situations where Studio Sound is not needed within a certain section or file. Is Studio Sound basically 'All or nothing"? Any help is appreciated! thanks

    • @MikeRussell

      Do you have any tips for real time audio? Livestreaming and stuff like that. Where I don't have to buy a several hundred $ software,or is that too much to ask for. I get software needs to make money unless it's open source like Audacity,but that can be a bit confusing for beginners. I used to also use Adobe Audition and I loved that,but had to cut down on subscriptions once the whole sickness hit us. Any help or feedback would be appreciated. I got some decent Microphones, one USB AT2020 USB+, 2035 and Shure Super 55-BLK & off course a SM58 (that everyone should own for the price as it's pretty much indestructible).
