    Cold Steel has now fully cornered the "oversize murder weapon" market. Good review bro.

    Great review. This folder isn't designed as a "utility blade". It'd not designed to prep food, chop firewood, open letters..its a defensive folder plain and simple. While some people below may not like the knife, for what it is designed for its awesome.
    It has one of the strongest (if not the strongest) production folder lock on the market. For a defensive folder that is key even over steel or handle material. If the lock is weak the knife is useless in a defensive /back up role. I have had many "defensive or back up folders" throughout the years and all have limitations. This and the Spyderco Manix XL are about the best I've found. Strong locks, decent handles that are wide enough to get a decent grip but not so wide or heavy that you don't want to carry.
    The steel is very good a definite step up from the old AU8 stuff they were using. The handle material is G10 again a step up from the old plastic material in the past.
    People can hate on Cold Steel all you want, but when it comes to their folders they offer strong (very stong) knives at very good prices.

      I get that, but when a weapon is that big, it gets classified as a deadly weapon under the law in many states, and it would be the same amount of jail time for carrying a gun unlicensed.

    • @Grodd70
      @Grodd70 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CharliMorganMusic I'd argue that any knife is a deadly weapon. Any decent prosecutor worth their weight is going to call a Dr. on the stand and articulate that a 3.5" blade is in fact a deadly weapon if it is brandished or used. A bigger concern is that some states don't allow for mere possession of a large folder so I would definitely check local laws.

    Fun review! I carry the XL Clip Point Voyager and Large Espada daily for protection. Both are good hunting/outdoor knives too. (the Voyager being the best) I'm lucky enough to live in a state that allows the carry of any knife, if it's visible. So I don't have to worry about legality as much.

    I edc a 5.5 talwar, but I also carry a 4" code 4. the talwar is a backup self-defense option and never used for anything else. the code4 is the everyday cutter. the frenzy had peaked my interest, but it desperately needs a deep carry clip. a thumb plate or "wave" would be welcome as well.

    • @mrdg1523
      @mrdg1523 ปีที่แล้ว

      6 years later has the Talwar stopped any threats?

    • @blizzak454
      @blizzak454 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @mrdg1523 thank God there have never been any situations that required the talwars intervention (same for the concealed carry options that I've been rocking for 20 years). But the Tal is still with me everyday. The only thing that might change that is when the Cold Steel Mayham [with its 6" blade] comes out later this year.

    I just bought a frenzy today. When you first purchased your knife was it very difficult to close? I need 2 hands and a significant amount of force to close it. Its fucking ridiculous!

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kim Bong-il it depends on where you place pressure on the tri-ad I’ve found. After I’ve not used this for a few months I pick it up and have to get the hang of it again. When I hand it to other people they usually hand it back for me to close. It’s stiff... but you’ll get used to it. Supposedly it’s the price you pay for strength. I want to say there’s a modification video on TH-cam somewhere to make it easier, but I tend to leave locks alone.

    How did you get the blade tension to be so smooth and fast? I just bought this blade and it's very stiff. Any tips?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, when I get new knives and play with them a bit... I probably adjust accordingly to compensate for each deployment. This is not a super easy blade to deploy and close... which is why I knicked by finger. This blade is best closed with two hands, and a good deal of thumb pressure is required to close it. Also beating it up a bit helps to loosen it up slightly. Some other people have mentioned here, the same thing as you... so it's possible I got a slightly smoother one? But this lockback is about twice as hard as any spyderco I own. My hardest closing knife by far is the Boker Slack Plus, and this is maybe about 2-3 down from that.

    • @bladeandcloak666
      @bladeandcloak666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, okay, thanks for the reply :) I've kept mind half open overnight and also oiled it up, its helped alot. My thumb is getting a work out closing that knife but im hoping the more I open it the smoother it'll get.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok.. I sorta reference 2 videos in my review. The "do you even lock bro" test is this one. It's a really long video but I'll start it a minute or two before the test starts.
      th-cam.com/video/6eFuENF5c08/w-d-xo.htmlm35s
      I'm paraphrasing of course... but it's basically how Cold Steel (Tri Ad) locks are stronger than a Spyderco Para Military 2 (compression lock). There's a whole series of lock tests against other (punier) knives. Then the chopping test is this one.
      th-cam.com/video/4OO9gHsscyc/w-d-xo.html
      The more entertaining of the two.

    Great review. Looks good. But I Still like my Rajah II and my Voyager Xl Tanto better. One ting this folder has over the Rajah is the low weight.It is awesome you out the knife through the paces. Because if that is the only knife you are carrying that day then you know it can do the job. I consider my knives tools, which sometimes have to work in an emergency, If the work then, they are keepers if not, I dump them.

      Ha ha! I don’t think so. The way I understand it... if you can flick it open without the thumb studs then no. However you really need to check your state and city knife laws.

    although the knife is WAY too big , i really like the steel they are using and the blade shape makes it a good slicer .
    maybe it is a dolding kitchen knife after all. 😅
