I absolutely love this island! Thanks for breaking down the budget. I would love to know what the cheapest you think you could live there comfortably for would be? Would 1000 a month be doable??
It really depends on your level of comfort and if you can do without western food. Alcohol can add up too. I have many friends living well below $1,000 USD per month. You can get a one-room bungalow for as little as $150 per month and a decent Thai meal can be purchased for $3 if you bring your own drink. There's plenty of free things to do on the island so it can be fairly cheap. I hope that helps.
Koh Phangan is one of the places that is on my travel list! I like how you have a breakdown on costs as it would give viewers esp travellers idea on budgeting! good job!
Thanks, Jordan. I'm glad you found the video helpful. There's a lot more videos about Koh Phangan available in our Thailand playlist and more to come soon.
I love that you always break everything down and give a wonderful idea of how it would actually be to visit long term or live in all of these different places!
It looks so relaxing. You say working many times at the start, but I looks more like a paradise away from work. You are on a winner, living and working like that. Don't tell everyone or they will raise the prices ;p Thanks for sharing. Keep travel vlogging. Adventure is better shared with friends!
That is probably the most attractive working place I have ever seen, and I must say that it is a great idea for less than 1500 dollars to live in such a situation. Of course with family, it would cost more, but for vacation, it looks great.
Great series ! Please continue I just visited south east Asia for the first time recently it was a growing experience for me I learned there is life outside the USA and I have options if I ever decided to move and leave my life here behind!
This is my aim to live here or Bali for six months (November - April) of the year and spend the Summer (May - October) in Greece. Just finances is what’s stopping me... I’m not sure how I would sustain a life. My gut is telling me this is where I belong, not in England. I know that much. It’s just frustrating knowing what you want, but not having any idea of how to achieve it. 🤔
Music - The Voice Of The Soul, Keep dreaming and watching videos. Hold on to the dream and I think eventually things will fall into place. That's how it worked for me. Good luck!
"It's cool right now, about 78 degrees" hahaha. I wish that's how warm it was when it's cool where we live (midwest USA). The fish skewers looked delicious.
I lived in the midwest for a while so I know what you're talking about. Now I've grown accustomed to living in the tropics. The breeze of the water does make it feel cooler.
OMG. That looks so serene. Thanks so much for the breakdown. I am busily compiling destos that I will consider for my "next phase" wjich most certainly will include periods of ex-pat living.
I agree. I'm currently living 5 minutes away from the beach in a much nicer and cheaper place but miss living on the beach. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Great video! Koh Phangan looks like such a beautiful place. I love how close you are to the beach and it's nice to see how quiet that beach is. My worry with Thailand was always that it was so busy but I guess that's just with certain parts. The grocery store look so cute! I love fresh produce :)
Hi. Thanks for the informative video. We will be in Koh Phangan in one month and we are super excited! Where can we find the free yoga classes you mentioned in the video? Thank you
Free yoga is usually offered right after new teachers finish their teacher training. I would check with Samma Karuna. Also you can check out the "Koh Phangan Conscious Community" group on facebook. Namaste.
Nice place to live and the coffee shops look nice. Looks like a tough stressful life lol. I could go for a coconut drink right now. Cheap for sure but I am surprised the rent is that high compared to the rest.
Living on the beach is always more expensive, especially during high season and without a lease. Now I'm living 5 minutes from the water and have a nicer place for $270 per month during the low season and it will go up to $420 per month in January.
There are definitely two sides to the island. The southern, party side and the northern, conscious community. Other parts of the island are void of both of the previously mentioned groups. Don't let the "full/black moon" beach parties keep you from visiting. It just draws the young partiers to one spot on the island and away from the other beaches.
Hi...I am looking for a Yoga/Meditation Teacher job on Koh Phangan...am also a Digital Marketer... do you maybe have any idea where I could try and apply? Maybe you can recommend some yoga/wellness/holistic centres...thanks a lot. Om and Namasté :)
Our island is a yoga mecca. There are many schools but also many yoga teachers. I think it is very unlikely that you can get yoga teaching job without being here. There is probably a little more demand for meditation leaders. Your best opportunity is to establish yourself here in the community and when teachers leave for visa runs or low-season trips, start subbing while they are away. Teachers often extend their trips or don't return and if you are subbing for them at the time, you may retain the job. I know teachers that have gotten in this way. This is the same for Bali and Costa Rica. Namaste.
I'd like to hear about visa runs from there. Do any expat ever do that as a group? Are there ethical exists who'd be willing to show a newbie looking to relocate, around? Or anyone looking for roommates to split the cost of living?
Phoenix, Yes to all of your questions. I would suggest joining some of the Koh Phangan Facebook groups. The best is probably "koh phangan conscious community" Here is the link: facebook.com/groups/KohPhanganCC/ You can do a search within the group and find many posts and conversations, especially about visa runs.

Looks amazing 😉 Just feel like jumping there for a month or so. What is the complete address of this place if i somehow wanna rents a Bungalow like this? Just a few meters from the beach, looks amazing!
Thank you for this video. I am giving this some serious thought now. Just wondering a few things that maybe you can help me with? is it possible to have internet in your bungalow? and how would i go about arranging a reservation there? and is there a long sandy beach on the island? something long enough to run on? also i have heard the sun is something to be avoided for long periods of time. Is that true?
Great questions Joe. Internet is available almost everywhere and included with the price at many bungalows. You can make reservations on agoda.com, bookings.com, and airbnb.com. During high season reservations are highly recommended. During low season, you can often get a good deal just stopping by in person. Haad Yao Beach would be my choice for running but there are other nice running beaches too. Here is a link to my video about Haad Yao: th-cam.com/video/yQ5jp_YOQ54/w-d-xo.html Most people that live here avoid the beach during the hottest part of the day unless they are trying to get a tan. I paddleboard 3 or 4 times a week and hike but usually before 10am or after 4pm when it starts cooling off. It’s an amazing island and certainly worth a visit.
Nikolino, The island is very small and for the first 3 months, I spent most of my time around Srithanu village. I could have easily gotten by on a bicycle if it wasn't so hot. Most rides were less than 5 minutes. I did do some exploring and that was included in my budget. Just make sure to fill up at the gas station on the middle road where the fuel is cheap.
Living Overseas TV yeah i know Phangan better than my own city so that’s not problem. Spend lots of time there but i do explore island all time. Each day i pass 30-40km at least so for me it’s way more than 200b monthly for gasoline. Baan tai is my place to be near markets and central location to go around.

How do the locals feel about all of us "westerner" types being there. There are a lot of us white folks there...lol. I assume this makes prices go up as well???
boatswainsm8, They are grateful for us being there because it drives up the economy. Businesses are hurting now due to COVID and the Thai business owners can't wait for the tourist to come back. I'm sure there are some people that don't care for the tourists but the only complaints I ever hear are when foreigners don't observe cultural boundaries such as wearing a bikini into a restaurant in town or improper behavior at temples. Yes, we drive prices up at prime tourist spots but there are usually affordable options around too.
@@JuanCarlosMH The island is making a lot of progress with reducing plastic. My favorite fruit stand now offers drinks in a glass with bamboo straws. 7-11 only will give out plastic bags by request.
Hi Rhonda. That rent price is based on a nightly rate at a place on the beach during high season. Currently, I have a 6-month lease at a place in a great location that's a 10-minute walk from the beach and I pay $270 per month. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
@cloudzinmyizeTip from a traveller: hello, There are beautiful small resorts around the island and most of them you will find on any booking engine. I usually only book only 2-3 days as once on the island you will find & choose what suites you. For instance there are beach, mountain and forest resorts with very price friendly alternatives if you choose a thai style bungalow. I got a hill side bungalow 300 meters from the beach for 600-800 bath with air con some years ago. You might start with looking in to the alternatives that are close to the yoga retreat ( Ask them for tips!). Be aware of roads that demand driving skills. ( very steep & high rising on some distances!).
