You guys are too funny. Brings back memories when i worked in a gas station using pneumatic bead breaker & tire changer, bubble balancer. Great work, thanks for sharing.
Jess, its wonderful to watch you in the videos... You are enthusiastic and dont get mad and walk off when things like getting hit in the head happen (my wife would have been gone at that point, and I would have been sleeping in the shed)... Please join him more often in videos!! Great job today guys... Rather than buying a new car, invest in this one... It is cheaper to repair your good used car than it is to buy even half of a new one, you know its strengths and its faults so you know what you need to do to it... AND its better for the environment that way...
Jess was really helpful because she did know nor assume that she understood your instructions. She gave us the opportunity to see a total novice at work , I learned more from watching her than the know it all's. I use the Harbor Freight changer for golf car tires 8", 10" & 12" diameter , they may be more difficult due to the smaller diameter. You have convinced me that I need to anchor the HF tire changer to the floor. Thanks for the video and more lube!
Just found your channel. It's good to see a male and a female perspective of things that are DiY built. I have watched 3 videos (so far) and have subscribed. Keep up the good work.
I used my changer yesterday to change an 8 inch trailer tire and I was dreaming about your modified version, even though it was easy job. I can't wait to get my machine modified like yours. This is a great video to show how well that setup works for those low profile tires. She is doing a great job, changing tires is a great feeling to be able to do yourself.
Man I love watching you two working together. My girlfriend can’t take my messy garage. She’s too OCD and it kind of pisses her off that I know where everything is ( mostly). I’ll remember that. It’s the cameras fault. I’m not really fat, the camera was too close. LOL
It's really inspiring to see you engineer solutions to common problems with inexpensive equipment. I've watched many videos on HFT manual tire changers, and even though you are not a "professional", yours is the best instruction I have found. Most people really struggle with both dismounting and mounting, but you make it look like I could do this, with the right modifications. Thank you for taking the time to produce this, and all of your videos, keep them coming!
Hey Jess & Dave, I think it is so cool that jess will at least give something a try. Dave you might try telling her why something is done a certain why. Like why you push the tire down, and show her as the tire is dropping to it's smallest diameter near the center of the rim and explain what it does for the tire to allow it to be mounted.
Watching you and Jess work together is really enjoyable !!! And you are not the kind of guy to say "YOU CAN'T DO IT" , when it comes to any task . Because that starts the adrenaline pumping and evokes the "OH NO...WATCH ME" response. That is your wonderful Spirit of "can do" at work . And that ,my friend , is so inspiring . It is one of the main reasons I really enjoy watching you work. And working together with Jess and your back and forth really adds to the interesting task at hand !!! Keep 'em coming ,Bud !!!! And Jess did great and she is a very beautiful lady !!!
She sure knew the process/steps by heart, and was a good sport in participating. For the amounts of mods on that thing, you could of build the whole thing from scratch! How do you like the Yes welder? I have the MIG-205DS MIG Dual Voltage model on the way. Cheers.
I bought a tire changer last Friday and they changed the design of the rim hold down device and it uses a pin with a ring on the end to go through the lug nut hole. The store associate said they can’t keep the manual tire changer in stock due to high demand and I bought the last one they had.

I went a different route …after trying the overarm and the duck it wasn’t very successful on light truck tires although I could dismount and mount my Ranger 15’s easily , so I centred the rims on the changer, and after enlarging the slot that’s already there and drilling one hole to match the bolt pattern of each of the different rims I have - I used two Volkswagen wheel bolts and nuts underneath to bolt the rim down and at that point all I need is the bar to strip and some eurolube and a tire iron to install any tire. It works slick. I also use the tools sold online the plastic ones (rim clamps -2 - which I sometimes have to gently vice grip to the rim because of the shape some of the aluminum rims ) to hold the opposite end of the tire down in the rim so that it will install easier or at all. And the last modification I did was the breaker plate. I put it on a concrete floor slab and I hammered it until it was a little more vertical, but still with a radius on it, so that I could get closer to the rim and the pressure stays closer to the rim that way and it works much better. I also got myself a heavy duty bead Buster because I have a farm tractor to deal with as well .
@@madgingercustoms thanks for your tips as well. Those ranger tires I did were the first ones I ever mounted and balanced after I polished the set of rims …it turned out aces…. Nice Dave!! Jess is definitely a trooper. The tires on the Mazda are 205/45 r17. I might give it a go. like I said in my video they were a PITA with a machine. I do wonder if the extra leverage with how you are using the bar makes it more powerful than an actual mechanical machine. I haven't ordered them yet but I'm definitely getting the rim clamps. Also making plans to set some of my tools (tire changer, shrinker Stretcher, bead roller, etc.) up on a receiver system so I can easily set up and take down whatever I'm using. If you saw Garage Fab yesterday, just like that.
