after being a commercial fishermen for 20yrs and sailing out of onehunga i must say its very good to see you with a life jacket on. its too late once the boat tips over

OMG, this would be too nerve racking for this boater, and knowing those wave swells look bigger in person. Kudos to this calm and collective boat captain and young crew while safely navigating through these moving mountains!👍🤘

Trouble is you are 100 percent reliant on having no mechanical problems there.

The same as every time you drive your car in bad weather. That is why they have radios, life jackets, flares, etc. so if something goes wrong they can get help quickly, they are prepared and know what to do and they are doing it. The motor seems to be running fine. You can stay safe in bed all your life if you want, they are out enjoying life and you could see some good fish they caught on the back seat so it was a successful trip.

Great video. Very dangerous though. Lots have died crossing that bar. I don’t know why people insist on going out in those conditions. Check the weather, go on another day when its safer. Is it worth it

You never wanna surf down a wave. Could broach. Pick one wave and ride the back of it all the way in.

Got balls crossing the manukau bar in a boat like that on a day like that and with no secondary propulsion 😳

This is how us Kiwi’s roll on West Coast bars. Further north on the Kaipara can also be fun. Unlike all those bar crossings l see on here in the US - we do not run boats with open area / seating up the front - yet alone people sitting up there crossing bars…..Kia Kaha

Captain is a pro trying to adjust, stay ahead of waves, concentrate and had to shush the woman. He has done this multiple times. Two strokes give you that instant torque to move the boat.

you gotta really know what your doing when crossing the notorious Manukau harbor bar, loads of people have died on the bar, the location of new Zealands worst maritime disaster, only cross when the weather is right, only cross the bar if you have and use a marine radio to correspond with the coast guard and always have the boat and engine constantly serviced by the professionals, because if your engine fails when crossing the bar you will probably end up in the water and be drowning
