“I couldn’t get my drone to track me on my electric surfboard” we’re living in the future haha
And he even calls it “real world” usage 😂
@@starismymiddlename I’m totally cool with it, I just never thought I’d hear a sentence like that haha
😂😂
If you don’t have n electric board you are not living the future.
This comment is just facts
Thanks for the content! As a photographer, the 70mm optical lens (it's not a zoom by the way) definitely provides an entirely different look due to parallax.
I think the compression of field is what your referencing. This does 80% of Mavic 3 Pro fir half the cost. I'm wondering if I need the Pro.
@@BlairAir it’s both the parallax and the compression of the semi-telephoto lens that create a different feel. I too don’t think I need the Pro except that I *would like the variable aperture.
@@Ridgeback65 yessir - as for adjustable aperture- wouldn't we all. I think that's reserved for Flagship models for whatever reason ($$) 🤔 I like being able to stop down in changing conditions vs landing/swapping ND Filters. A good VND saves a few seconds, buy I don't like the softening effect of the dual glass. Sigh... there is always something more 🙄
I've always been a fan of parallax shots so I definitely think the 70mm is worth it
too bad the images look like hot garbage.
dude, love the format of this video. not all jacked up on Red Bulls screaming specs and micro-features and why it's the greatest flying camera ever; what a relief! nice work Matty, keep it up 👏👏👏
I agree with Matti about the improvements in today's drones being very insignificant. The bigger keys to achieving any shot that is "Hollywood"-esque or "cinematic" are time of day, manual settings, camera movements, correct ND or PL filters, etc... One of my drones is the original Mavic Mini and I have been able to shoot some INCREDIBLE shots. It's not the plane it's the pilot (;
I absolutely love that I can put the video on pause and clearly see every single detail in focus. I could care less about motion blur. Clarity is what's important to me. I often crop great pictures from my videos.
Really good video I love that you mentioned there is no shallow DOF on the 70mm
Mavic 3 pro has shallow dof? Or am i wrong?
The mavic 3 pro shares the same camera and sensor size so soft bokeh will appear the same but in a much more expensive drone.
It's a tiny sensor mate, don't expect miracles.
This is true and I guess I already could have worked this out but still glad he pointed it out you don't always remember all the things like this even if I technically understand it.
So what’s the difference ultimately using this 70mm vs lossless digital zoom on the air 2s? I assumed you’d be able to achieve compression or bokeh in the images, if not can’t I get that same affect with air 2s digi zoom but just at a slightly lower end resolution?
It’s a beautiful camera but I upgraded from the mavic mini 1 to the air 2. Pretty huge upgrade. Think I’ll wait to the next model I’m good for a while. The air 2 is still amazing
Thank you for the transparency 👍🏽
Great review! Interesting point you bring up about the lack of shallow depth of field, bummer.
On my iPhone, I personally use the Telephoto lens more than I use the other 2 lenses. Reason for that is because I’m usually taking photos or videos of landscapes with a lot of layers, so I’m trying to pull in the stuff in the back. So for that reason, I would love to have the Tele lens on a drone because I take very similar style photos and videos with my drone
Hi thanks for entertaining and informative videos! Which filter pack ND/cpl do you recommend for Air 3? I want the best.. Thanks!
How do the range/signal compare between the Mini 3 Pro, Air 3, and Mavic 3 Pro in real world use (with trees, buildings, etc.)? Does the new controller increase the range of the Mini 3 Pro? My Mini 3 Pro has terrible range and signal compared to my Mavic 2 Pro so I'm looking at getting the Air 3 or Mavic 3 Pro unless the new controller alone will increase my Mini 3 Pro range.
Always enjoy your reviews brother. Air 3 looks awesome.
Yooooo always awesome content
Matti, love the realness and authenticity in this review, the 70mm doesn’t look as sharp as the 24mm, might just be TH-cam, thanks for keeping it real!!
Does the 48mp mode still suffer from the same chromatic aberrations and colour shifts as much as the mini 3 Pro? It'd be interesting to see seeing as they both use the same omnivision ov48c sensor.
At the end, i think you forgot what you're asking for is already on the market. The Mavic 3 Classic has only 1 camera, and it's a 4/3 sensor. So i think if they did that approach, they would compete with the same kind of dron in the same category. Nice shots and such an enjoyable video. Thanks!
So excited , sold my OG mini in march and was going to buy the m3 pro in june but then i raptured my acl. Now that its healed the air 3 came out and i Will order it tomorrow . Will be a big step up from my mini
Would you recommend this DJI air 3 or the DJI air 2S?
Nice work as always.
How does the digital zoom compare to the optical zoom on the mavic 2 zoom?
Had the Air 3 for about two weeks. I wanted to get into video however I shoot a lot of landscapes. In low light even at low iso the images suck. Noise noise noise. And chromatic aberration is off the scale. I have contacted DJI and they response has been very slow. I believe they have a big problem with this sensor in low light for stills. Have you tested this or tried low light photography. To be honest I was getting better low light images from my Mavic pro mark one.
Excellent review
I've had mine for 3 weeks now and I can tell anyone it's not a gimmick 70mm is fantastic I had the air 2 so yeah big update and upgrade and your comment on Hollywood shots well if you want those shots get the inspire 3 happy flying everyone 😀
First honest review I've seen, thank you. It's a good drone but the video quality is like a smart phone.
Hey Matti I noticed some dropped frames in the 70mm shots, is that your storage card or perhaps something that’s happened in post production?
How would you compare this to the Mavic 2 pro?
That looks cool. I have been looking for a drone for my Vlog channel.
Acompanho aqui do Brasil. Saude e prosperidade. Senti falta da família aparecer mais nos vídeos. 👀🤜🤛
i love the 70mm lens, i mean, shallow DOF is great, but this is not portrait lens, and i think it makes sense for a drone lens
Really trusting that tracking with boating while flying hahah I gotta try that
This is the calmest I’ve ever seen you, in a product review.
Thanks for sharing . nice stuff out there. I think for videography, shallow depth of field could be subjective though . Not everything should be in the DOF practically looking at the way cinematic videos are defined these days.
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't use the tracking features. I learned from Ken Heron years ago to teach yourself how to do those things manually and you will be a better pilot. Don't get me wrong I think those features are amazing and useful for many people, just not for me. Anyway great review you nailed it. Not ready to upgrade my air 2s, but this drone is certainly incredible at a great price. The air series is IMHO is the best bang for your buck on the drone market. Keep up the good work.
It was
Be a better pilot! I never use the auto modes.
I’m glad you said that. The Air 3 rocks.
@@bradc6831 if you have the balls to get on a jet ski and have it flawlessly follow you over water, you have more money the me sir. I think it would be ridiculous to try that in the water. Furthermore, I was speaking about not using automated features as a whole sir. Have a great day.
Good video as usual 👏
I thought the footage looked pretty great! The zoom feature would still be nice in the discreet sense. Getting nice shots without everyone looking to see where the noise is coming from is a nice perk.
Awesome!
What doesn’t the 70mm 3X lens give shallow depth of field if it has a small aperture?
I have the same question f2.8 on a 70mm is small but I guess the sensor size is also really really small compared to a DLSR. So what’s the advantage over digital zoom on an air2s unless you really need to print those images big?
I have the air2s and waited this Air3 to upgrade to but finding out that it has a smaller sensor i think i'll pass. Also the video quality of it seems pretty bad to me, i mean maybe it's some YT compression or something but seems to be way off than your usual drone shots quality. (could it be cause of the smaller sensor?) Cheers!
I agree, it looks like poor quality video from this sensor.
Wanna buy one after watch your vlog❤
Big Fan Sir ❤❤ Love from India
Do you think its worth the upgrade from Mini 3 pro for client work?
Yes and no. The Air 3 is better only because it gives you an extra 70mm camera and D-Log M verses just the Mini 3 Pro with regular color space.
@@austinbrady thank you for that. then should i just go with the mavic 3 pro then?
@@jaiel.p Might as well save the money since it's so similar. And the Mavic 3 Pro can do vertical video which is nice for some clients that want social content. If you want to get a significant upgrade I would recommend the Mavic 3 Classic (I made a video about it on my channel if you're curious).
If I'm not mistaken, I bought my first drone (Mavic 2 Pro) thanks to your videos in 2018. After almost 5 years of amazing fun with it, I've recently sold it as I'm using a Mini 3 Pro which is surprisingly good! Image quality and all the features in a super compact size are too good to be true
I love the mini 3 pro, not too sure this will be an upgrade, the legality of the 249g drone makes flying a lot more accessible. the 70mm was nice but it isn't WOW.
@@avicreates exactly, I agree with everything. The Mini 3 Pro is a delight to fly 💫
I'm curious as to your reasoning for downgrading camera performance wise to a mini series? I recently bought the Air 3 to "upgrade" from my Mavic 2 pro but I will say the 12MP sensor really holds it back as I'm used to the Mavic 2 Pro's 20MP 1" sensor. My justification was that I didn't need the best performance as I don't use this drone professionally but I'm left wondering if the Mavic 3 Classic would've been better.
is that 10bit 422? or 420? better than mavic 2 pro?
Air 3 is 10 bit 420
I bought the first DJI mini and probably flew it four or five times and put it on the shelf. There’s too many flying restrictions that eliminate the amount of places you can fly a drone.
I think it's unrealistic to expect bokeh from the 70mm. I'm more put off by the stopped-down aperture on it, the smaller main sensor, and the continued lack of variable aperture. Air 2S is still the pick, imo.
I felt the same about sensor size. But other reviews focus on the new sensor and explain why, even with a smaller size, the images using the stacked sensor tech are as good or even better than the air 2s. Plus 48mp and night mode. Would be good to see some actual real life comparison shots between these two.
Because there is no shallow depth of field that zoom camera looks like a bad cropped in image.. i think it would be so much better if they put just one camera with bigger sensor that you can zoom in by cropping the sensor a bit..
Someone tested how to make 360 spherical panoramas or, as in air2, the photo is incomplete at the top.?
So is it actually better than Air 2S ?
Basically an Mini 3 Pro camera stacked in a Mavic 3 design with some of the decent features the mavic 3 had.
Nice!
70mm is very usable under normal lightning conditions.
I think it better to go for air 2s
The dynamic range of this drone is the same as mini 2.
Your drone skill is God tier
@7:45 is that a real duke near you ?
How about full frame drone?
Not exchanging my air 2s. I don't do much video, I'm heavily in to night photography so that 1 inch sensor is a way better option for me.
Neither do I. Plus we got much smaller bag with our loved A2S.
Not sure about night image quality for stills would like to see some examples but the night mode feature looks amazing and low light video does look way better despite the smaller sensor. Good point on bag size - feels to me like this is pushing the definition of the air class, it’s actually a lot bigger and heavier and has a bigger footprint when open. You’d still need to carry min 3 batteries and these are also bigger and heavier
Weird, I'm getting macroblocking and regular stutter on this video. Not just the drone shots, all of it. Matti's videos are always ridiculously high quality so I'll have to rewatch this on another device to make sure the problem is not on my end. (No other videos have had this problem though...)
the mini 4 is pretty good too. and you dont have to register/remote id
Any 70mm on a full frame even wouldn’t give you that shallow depth of field from that distance. Wrong expectations. Think about it as being able to use a sensor with that field of view instead of cropping in on a larger sensor where the size of the noise (at least) is different.
Someone tell me if I'm wrong; Bigger sensor, bigger aperture, 70mm Tele, double the ascent/decent speed, USB-C fast charging, better battery hub, 12 more minutes of flight time, 13km more range, 200fps in fhd or 100fps in 4k, 10 BIT color, 20° more upward tilt, and better omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, seems like ONE HELL of an upgrade from the Air 2 to me. I'd love some input
Hi there - I use Air 2s primarily for real estate photography and its quite good. I'd be very grateful if you could supply some sample DNG files ? :)
What the main reason for the air ??
waiting for mini 4 pro😎
The price??
Thank you for the review , I will be waiting for the DJI Air 3 S instead..... specially like you say 27 minutes of flying is not 45 minutes as advertised .:((((
Wait why it won’t track you in the water I v seen it track people. This model
Кадры с дрона дергаются… постоянно сталкиваюсь с такой проблемой. Но есть один лайф хак)
I will wait for the Air 3S. If the Air 3 is this good then the Air 3S will be a show stopper.
Different opinion ..the "third" 7x camera seems to be the one thats too much of a "gimmick"..this makes sense the 3x..lens hits like a good spot when I thought about the Mavic 3 Pro..I thought to myself I dont think I will end up using that 7x lens and now the fact that Dji took that off for this Air 3 definitely makes me consider this one instead...Also are people saying the fact that is is the same sensor size for both makes it easier in the "editing process?"..there is always a give and take with technology..like camera's..no one product is perfect..they have to differentiate them for price point reasons and not wanting to cannibalize other drones specs...etc..like this Air 3..that fixed aperture is on the con's list..Dji did that on purpose...so you have to consider the Mavic 3 Pro..haha nice new specs for the price point and can defiantly be a good drone to start with.
For some one who need 70mm and parallax this drone will be OK but for almost the same price u get dji 3 classic with 1 camera with 4/3 sensor which is far far better option overall.
How loud it is?
81db
matti -the work from home salesman.
Due to all the restrictions I no longer care about anything that weighs over 250g. I wonder if one day they will be able to squeeze all this into a sub 250g drone.
What country are you from? Can't you just get a license?
@@MsWouto I had a licence just before covid then they changed what a licence was and it wasn't worth me spending more money on it. It cost me £1500 to get the PfCO in the UK then they changed it and in that time the mini 2 and mini 3 pro came out that's good enough for me. You don't need it to do commercial work anymore and the mini 3 pro footage is better than my mavic pro footage ever was. I can fly more with the mini 3 pro than I could even with PfCO.
🙌🙌🙌
The Air 3 is interesting and confusing in the sense that it sounds better than the Mavic Pro Classic and it is cheaper too… But if the target consumer is just going to fly this as a hobby, the mini 3 pro to me is still the better choice. What do you think?
Yes unless its really windy
@@richardpalmer4594 hobbyist probably won’t fly under windy conditions anyways unless they are ready to redeem DJI’s care 😆
Looking closer at the comparisons on the website, I was worried the Air 3 would replace my Mavic 3 Classic, happy to say I’m glad I got the Mavic 3 Classic! Some nice features trickled down making this a nice mid tier drone
Well yea... cuz they're waiting for the Air3S
Got an Air2S …and as you mentioned: it doesn’t make common sense to upgrade when there’s no real upgrade
Wait for Air3S
The 70mm gives it a unique look imagine if it had some bokeh
Great stuff as always! Background seems a bit more defocused on the 70mm => th-cam.com/video/r1g2okkOSnI/w-d-xo.html which is nice. Id like to see a close up of a person walking towards the dronw while it is moving backwards. Lets say at 5 meters distance. There should be a bokeh in situations like that. I use the Air2 as a professional and I do that because it fits in my backpack :-) Tempted by this fella tbh
I think you are missing a lot of points. I own the air2s and a mini 3 pro and I can tell you the night time footage is superior on the mini 3 pro which supposedly has the same sensor as the air 3. As far as the tele lens well it does give you the parallax effect that people love. You seem to be comparing the 70mm lens to a still camera lens and the bokeh effect of blurting the background and you are frankly missing the point as it pertains to video.
Once I saved my savings and bought a drone and then after using of 3 months it's Crashed and. I am still missing that drone on My trip's 😢
I don't normally leave anything other than positive messages, but I disagree with you here Matt.
For your "average consumer/prosumer" this is a HUGE upgrade from the Air 2/2S. You've got close to twice the battery life which is major for flying in general, but especially for hyperlapses and waypoints, etc. The cameras are better, the night shots are better, it has 360 obstacle avoidance, 360 tracking as opposed either front/parallel tracking, waypoints, new controller with greater connectivity and more. If you're used to flying $10,000 drones or commercial-based drones only then maybe the appeal wouldn't be great, but I don't think this video is steering the avg person in the right direction with their decision. Many of the reviewers who are reviewing say this is a suitable replacement for the Mavic 3 Pro and actually has some features that exceed what the Mavic can do such as ascend/descend speed and more.
Keep up the great work, but as a person who flies an Air 2S, this drone is a significant jump in specs. Thanks for being open to the comment.
👌👍
Not feeling excited at all about this one :/. Still really happy with my Air 2S
I said it 2 weeks ago on twitter and I'm gonna say it now... I'm waiting for the Dji Air 3 Pro. 😉
My hunch says it will boast a 1" sensor with a variable aperture. Mark my words. 😎
Air 3s lol
😄 Dji is dropping the S version. We got the Mini 3 Pro and the Mavic 3 Pro... What's Missing? The Air 3 Pro. 😎 I contacted them about this and they didn't deny it.
Highly unlikely it will have changeable aperture as that would cannibalize the mavic series.
That might be true. But we all know that professionals buy the Mavic 3 series for that Micro 3/4 Hasselblad sensor. Otherwise, the Air 3 Pro might come with a bulit in ND filter.
smaller sensor from 2s ? no i dont think i will go for upgrade. i want the least noise in night. So 1" in air 2s and 1/1.3 on air 3... :/
The night mode footage on the air 3 appears to blow the air 2s night video quality out of the water
The night mode footage on the air 3 appears to blow the air 2s night video quality out of the water
Link to drone isn’t working bud
Its so weird, its like some of the shots are def tracked well but its not like focusing on the subject.
no, the 70mm is well justified, alot of the time you want have a big subject in the frame but u cant with 24mm
Let's see what we got.
Matti out here saying IMAX is better than DJI drones. Do we believe him?
Nice video! Lovely images. I’m still with my Air2S. Because its sensor and size. I don’t want larger bags to carry my drone.
Drones seem to going the way of smartphones, no one used to think they needed more than one camera. Now they throw a hissyfit if it doesn't have three.
It’s better than a Mini and not as expensive as a Mavic. Midrange.
That 70mm looks amazing even without the bokeh but I hear you. Also keep in mind the Mavic 3 pro has the same exact camera and sensor. So no shallow DOF there either.
But the mavic 3 pro has got the 3/4 sensor tho
24mm Mini 3 pro sensor😔
How is the image of this drone at night guys? Thanks everybody.
Man who plays with Electric toys over water will see them shorted out soon enough.
