    Don't drive when there are "free" promotions (via Postmates/DoorDash). You'll end up driving back and forth to the same place (for different people) and getting $1~$2 tips. Driving back and forth for coffee isn't profitable...

    You are in a good area my market does not tip like this no way near that, besides how are you seeing the tips for your orders I don't see the tip amount for each delivery in doordash.

  • @BabyMatrix27
    @BabyMatrix27 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the pay amount now is a lot less with DoorDash. Been doing it for 2 weeks and avg order I make is $6.80-8.25. Have you noticed anything that changed?

    • @chellesswell974
      @chellesswell974 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BabyMatrix27 I had a DD delivery in the Atlanta market yesterday for $21. Only two items and not much of a distance (everything is far in GA). I've had some as low as $5.93 and the $21 was the second of its kind. FYI... I've been delivering with them for about 20-25 days.

    • @PongoXBongo
      @PongoXBongo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It varies wildly by area (affluent vs average) and market (upscale vs fast casual). That's not far off from what I've been averaging per order, but that's 2-3+ orders per hour for approx. $20+ an hour total. This is not a get-rich job, this is a be-your-own-boss while getting-by OK job (if FT) or a decent side gig (if PT).
      It really pays to take advantage of high demand bonuses and to target the most profitable parts of town (even if they're further from home). Keep your ratings up (yes, all of them). Being selective with orders is ok, until it starts to affect how many orders you get total. But you can recover with some suck-it-up shifts. ;)

    that area your in is really good. Soo hang around the high end resturants?

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yes! That is part of the strategy - the best restaurants are the high end ones which also have the food ready quickly and are easy to park at and get in and out of quickly! It's all about finding your niche and go-to restaurants and also about being selective with which orders you take - remember that Postmates has no required acceptance rate so you should pick and choose the best orders.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The new update makes it so you can't see the customer location until after you confirm that you've picked up the order. So you could get an order for a restaurant in that area, and after picking it up, you will see the destination is half way across L.A. My friend working postmates has had pickups in Hollywood with dropoff in Burbank... then you have to go back to your cherry area on your own gas and time. It's a bum deal any way you slice it with on demand services for the drivers.

    • @FSS-gp8in
      @FSS-gp8in 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Just change your vehicle type to 'scooter', it will show you the order details beforehand and they won't let you drive too far since you are supposedly driving a scooter.

      If you do Uber & Lyft, it's a good idea to at least have accounts with delivery apps so you can work when rides are slow. For me personally, I like delivery because I can stay local. With Uber, I never know where I'm going next or when I'll be home again. Also, the tips are great!

    Nice. Funny is that I am with the same companies, and I'm just getting started tomorrow. I live in the IE, but when I head to LA, I may hit up the celebrity areas and hopefully get some large tips.

    • @relentlessundrdawg
      @relentlessundrdawg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am 3 days into Door Dash and I have noticed that the Santa Monica and Brentwood areas are the busiest every day. I may have to hit those areas up on the weekend. I did the Beverly Hills area on Saturday, but it was still kind of slow, and the deliveries were mostly in West Hollywood and LA. So no major large tipping.

      It has been going well. I mostly work in the Rancho Cucamonga area, and Fontana occasionally. The new pay model needs to be changes because it is taking $$ from drivers.

    • @leonf1111
      @leonf1111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Relentless 101 always taking from drivers, well I'm going to be doing deliveries on motorized bicycles electric or gas, both are legal in D.C. area, just gotta register and insure. I think I can keep more money in my pocket that way. Easier around traffic, easy to park at any bike rack or metal post etc. Great on gas or no gas (ebike)!!!

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, all of the other apps allow tipping through the app. DoorDash and GrubHub have some of the best tips from my experience. Most customers tip

    • @michelleboutwell-goodman818
      @michelleboutwell-goodman818 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rhymegarden I agree. Most customers don’t tip. I give all the extras, arrive quickly and make sure the order is A+ and most don’t tip. I’m in Santa Monica. I now only take large orders and during blitz pricing. I calculated my earnings from tips this past Saturday and it worked out to 6.25 per hour after tips. Changing my strategy.

    • @George-nn8ui
      @George-nn8ui 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When Uber Eats started they didn't wish to include tips since they wanted to be the cheapest delivery service, they will give quests which will basically give you what you already deserve to have per mile. For example you should get 50 cents per mile which includes coming back to your area. They hold back some of that money per mile till you finish a quest to get your 2 more dollars per trip. To make matters worse, they finally allow the tip option but the customer has to 1: wait an hour to get an email, then 2: go into that email, then 3: rate you, then :4 tip. So half the time I am getting the tip the next day since who has time to babysit your email after eating, your tired, your going to watch a show after a long day then get ready for your next day. With Doordash, they assume that the driver should get a tip since he or she basically was your server. And think about the quality of the restaurants uber Eats started with, McDonalds. Already, they are in a mindset of cheap, so why would they tip you 5 or 10 dollars for junkfood which costs 1 to 3 dollars per item?

    • @tamarafarmer7040
      @tamarafarmer7040 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      George Bennett when I order on ubereats it asks me in the app for the tip option. It's immediately after my food is delivered. I wonder if the app varies per area.

    • @PongoXBongo

      I applied on the website on Monday and was dashing by the end of the week (that was in late 2018). The background checks and all that went through right away, I was just waiting to get my gear in the mail (bag and credit card). Still happily dashing into 2019.
      Be warned though, in many markets now (like mine here in Minneapolis) they no longer hold orientations. They just mail you your stuff and say "good luck". I _highly_ recommend watching YT videos by experienced dashers that do ride-a-longs, app overviews, and that give tips and tricks. ;)

      HOW IS IT GOING?

    • @kermin
      @kermin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      go to college, get a high hour high pay job and you can make 130k + a year easily, and it's more worth it then running around delivering food and is hassle free depending on what job choice you pick, I suggest going into IT like my dad, he went to school for 6 years and makes 150k a year and I think anyone who puts their mindset to this can achieve it because nothing is impossible and time is learning and knowledge is > work meaning if you take your time learning you will overall make more money doing your occupation over the years which most people can't seem to comprehend as well as others.
      My occupational goal is to earn 80k at least right off the bat from graduating college with a Ph.D.
      This was less criticism and more of a spill of what my pov is, if you made it this far respond with a "Good luck" or "You can do it"
      if not you don't have to but good luck to whatever job choice you decide on!

    • @estebanalfaro1205
      @estebanalfaro1205 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Well obviously, but a lot of these people are students that are trying to achieve that goal you mentioned down the line. For a lot of people, working in delivery is a stepping stone.

    I just started working today for Postmates today, not bad so far.

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think there are a couple things going on: 1) DoorDash is growing quickly - they are trying to balance the need for drivers with an increase in orders on their platform. As the market reaches stability, there will be slow times and extremely busy times.
      2) This is just the slow time of year. From my experience, December and January, with the exception of NYE and holiday party weekends in December, are very slow months. Things will pick up towards the end of the month, but for now, just keep your options open (like you're doing with PM) and keep hustling! It will get better soon!! :)

    • @roycerambo6339

    Because a future where the driver job becomes obsolete isn't that far off.

  • @chuckstr951
    @chuckstr951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

  • @RoadDawgLife
    @RoadDawgLife 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One thing you mentioned that is very true, you have to get it while the getting is good. There are too many players in the food delivery space, UberEats, DoorDash, OrderUp, GrubHub, Postmates, etc, not to mention local delivery services and in-house food delivery like Dominos, Panera Bread. Who knows which ones will survive long term and which ones are going to kick the bucket in a year or two.

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! It seems like there's a new one every day. Only so many will survive... But it does also seem like delivery will be more and more common for anything and everything in the future.

    • @RoadDawgLife
      @RoadDawgLife 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree but delivery is pricey. Definitely not cheap for the consumer from what I see. I think it's whoever has the most efficient delivery system and provides the best experience. Idk... we'll see.

  • @ardubya648

    Of ALL of the different delivery services, which ones are worth signing up with and which ones blow? - deliv.co, wedeliver2you, doordash, grubhub, postmates, trycaviar, doorstepdelivery.
    And also, what about uberontime? (you've already stated Ubereats is in the "blow" category)

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each app has pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. It's good to sign up for a bunch and see which ones work best for you. So far from my experience, I would rank them GrubHub, DoorDash, UberEATS, Postmates, Caviar

    • @RideshareGenius

    Yo, I drive in LA and im probably gonna use your bonus referral thingy for you cuz you convinced me (1 year with lyft) people suck, traffic SUCKS, and bad neighborhoods can kiss my mother fuc*#ing a$$. Yeah you know what i mean doncha hahahah
    So yeah was going to call you but I dont see a number so ill try your email. Great vid. Everyone who drives for Uber/Lyft when you watch this video take a very personal attention to when he shows that he barly drove 19.5 miles. YOU HAVE NO IDEA how important this is, especially if you use your own car and believe me, as of Aug 28 2017 Lyft just RAISED ITS RENTAL RIDE REQUIREMENTS from 95 rides a week, to 120 rides a week = 17 rides 7 days (average 2 to 3 rides an hour) days a week or 20 rides 6 days a week. After 20 rides, u cant walk. And what they dont tell you is Uber is kicking the living SHIT out of lyft, so you wait.... and you wait. Good luck walking in a month.
    Oh and im so glad it was a rental cuz I put like 25k miles on the car in like, 5 months. I said WOAHHHH so glad its not my car.
    They dont tell you that. With food you routinely hop in and out of the car which has a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE impact on that very simple task... walking.

    You got lucky. In my area (Charlotte NC) most people tip 2-5$, which Door-dash happily steals! Its because of their thieving company policies, I can honestly tell people working for Door-dash I make approximately 6-8 dollars an hour (before taxes) and I am at constant risk of losing my vehicle due to accidents or mechanical break-downs, and for police citations (parking isn't always easy). I am trying to find better gigs now, because Door-dash just DOES NOT PAY!

    While I realize your guidelines and experiences may vary...I actually tried Postmates for the first time (and first time ever using my car to make money) and my very first order pickup had to be close to $80. 3 large pizzas, several sandwiches, chips and more. I delivered to a very wealthy looking gated community in Summerlin, NV (part of Las Vegas) where there was a nice Lexus in the driveway. I was greeted by a women who was anxiously waiting for me to deliver her food. Well...I was tipped a whopping $4.00 on an order that as mentioned earlier...had to be close to $80.00. So, she tipped me around 5%. The next delivery did not tip at all.

    Is all about luck not strategy because me and my neighbor we both have Postmates and I do the driving and he delivered the food and pick up the food so we can do it fast I made $24 dollars in 5 deliveries he make $8 lol both of us no tips and all the deliveries were in Hollywood we thought we could make good money since is busy yes is busy and is no parking so it was a nightmare and people don’t tip you so is all about luck like winning the lottery to find someone that is gonna give you a big tip the only thing I know is ain’t doing the shit anymore Gas and time is not worth it oh and both of us got a order from the same restaurant and while we were waiting for the food his order was cancel lmao 🤣 but it was weird because the soon it was cancel few seconds later I guy got in and ask for his order we were like tf how the fuck that happen so someone else got his order some how or both have the same order but he was their first and got cancel it didn’t make any sense but oh well Postmates rules I guess

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Sonia, I feel safe when I deliver. I would suggest beginning in an area where you feel safe and comfortable and also working during the day to start. I've never had an issue myself. To me, I feel safer than driving passengers because no one is getting in my car

    • @PongoXBongo
      @PongoXBongo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd suggest that if you always carry your official DD/PM/GH bag and ideally get a hat, or some car magnets, or something that clearly identifies you as a delivery driver. People are pretty familiar with services like Uber and DoorDash now, and know that the drivers *don't* (typically) handle cash (no point in robbing if there's no cash to be had).
      And as RG suggested, stick to daylight hours and familiar parts of town. Once you get a bit more comfortable, and you will, then you can start dashing later or exploring different parts of town.

    Hi! did a few deliveries for those two and never had such a huge tip. In fact, sometimes I got no tip and ended up being 4.10 for like a half hour or more (and there was nothing wrong with the order and I was nice too). Also, now you don't know if there is a blitz or not with Postmates and DoorDash, for me was really really bad. Also, it is not like you can choose or you like will know how big the delivery is before you accept or how far you need to take it to, but you can't ignore many deliveries. And parking to get the food and to deliver is really bad in central LA, it was very stressful for me and had to park in red many times, sucked. Things might have changed a lot since you posted this too.
    I would like to know if you are still doing this and how it is going or if you have any tips.

      I believe you can reach out to support to temporarily work in another dashable city if you're going to be there for a while. But they have to officially de-activate and re-activate you in the new area before you can start dashing (or something like that). But that's only for a completely different metro area. You can freely choose from areas of your existing metro at any time.

    One thing I want to know is when do you scan a ID in before completing drop off. I delivered a pack and nothing prompted me to scan an ID. Is that normal ? What was it like in your experience ? The way I'm understanding it is the fleet app will alert if anything and wont let you complete the drop off until ID is verified. I had no prompts to tap on and proceeded with commands that where there for that transaction. Thanks again for sharing insight

So it's not an option for some but def awesome if you live near the city already.

    WARNING WARNING --------I am assuming postmates is stealing your tips
    ....everyone should try this. Have the friend place an order while you wait for the pickup. If the order is assigned to another courier have your friend cancel the order. If successful compare payout and tips to what the friend has to pay. OR place an order yourself and close out the order with the courier there and compare payout and tips (assuming they aren't a goody two shoes).

      Hey Shanta, I've seen no evidence that Postmates is stealing tips. Currently, I'm working for Amazon flex part time and most of the time I'm averaging 25-30hr; makes me want to quit my regular job! lol I have signed up for postmates but have been hesitant to start because of the types of deliveries they do (i.e., grocery shopping, etc.). Do you have a preference from postmates or doordash? Great video!

      Hey George! Thanks for stopping by and watching! I generally prefer DoorDash because they provide more info (pickup, dropoff, order total) and I find the tips to be more consistent. As far as the grocery shopping, yes, there are some annoying/time-consuming orders on Postmates, BUT you can accept or skip any order without penalty. I usually skip all grocery store orders, Starbucks and fast food.

    Anyone have any good ideas / strategy for being able to always get signed on for a shift? (for Doordash) The scheduling portion of the app gives me like 30 minutes to 1&1/2 hour shifts at the most in my area. I used to be able to call "customer support" and they would clock me in, but starting last week they put the kibosh on that! Damn. I was working 10-12 hours a day!, but now....bupkis.

    • @PongoXBongo
      @PongoXBongo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the area you want to dash in is colored red, not gray, you should be able to just "Dash Now" and choose from one of the available ending times. Often you can extend that ending time as well if you're down for dashing longer that day. Scheduling is nice, especially for contentious busy periods, but also largely optional.

    • @RideshareGenius
      @RideshareGenius  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I've never had a problem making deliveries on time. Postmates doesn't give you a specified delivery time so all you can do is deliver it ASAP, which is what you wanna do anyway in order to make the most money. DoorDash does give a "deliver by" time but it's usually not a problem. Once when it was really busy, I got an order that was already supposed to be delivered so I called the customer to update her and see if she still wanted it. She gave me a nice tip so it worked out.

      Did you link a bank account for them to deposit the money into? They're not going to just mail you a paper check.

    In Postmates, I accept on certain criteria. No fast-food, Asian restaurants, Starbucks. It has to be a fairly decent restaurant. Can I do the same with Door Dash?

      Yes and no. There is no sortable criteria, you just get the nearest available order offered to you. But you _can_ accept or deny orders based on the restaurant and guaranteed payout for that order. Just be aware that DD does track your order acceptance rate and it can affect things like bonus rates, and even total orders offered if it drops low enough (ultimately ending in deactivation if it bottoms out).
