I was impressed when he was using the whirling water stone thing. But when he went to three grits of water stone AND THEN finished it off with a little slurry from the last one right on the wood...WOW!!!

the fact he has to do 80% of the work on the grinder...fucking kills me.

My bad, I don't know the least bit about sword making, I made that comment because they appeared to be working hard and I know Japanese steel has always been pretty damn good, so I gave the benefit of the doubt to them and tried to be nice and comment positively about their video. Thanks for schooling me on that though.

@@harrisquicksilver6595 yea..sorry, thats how it usually is in blacksmithing, if a guy does more grinding than forging, theyre making up for mistakes during forge work.
Ideal is 90% forge work 10% grinding and finishing. cause its much faster and less wasteful. but to do that, you need to know how little or much material to start with so you end up at ideal dimensions by the time you finish forging.
and thats what seperates the novice from the 2nd class smith and masters.

if it was a chisel(nomi) it would be too close/thin but for markign knives and plane blades it is good.

Moro no Japão e sou aficionado por ferramentas de corte do Japão, compro bastante formões e plainas manuais, reformo deixo um espelho, em umas dessas compras comprei um formão de 150mm de largura, tava bem judiado e reformei como fiz em outros 20 que reformei, mas quando fui testar fiquei surpreso com seu poder de corte, todos os outros reformados cortavam muito mas esse é um absurdo o corte dele a madeira chega a brilhar depois de passar o formão acabamento fantastico.
Uso pedras 400/1000 depois 3000/5000 depois 8000/10000 e no acabamento a pasta de jacaré.

Я так понимаю что полукруглая выборка сделана как раз на той стороне где крепилась пластина хорошей стали. Тогда получается что со временем режущая кромка сточится до выборки и нож будет не с прямым лезвием а с полукруглым. Да и сталь просто выбросили.

Да как он вечный то будет) выборку проточили как раз на стороне режущей грани - при заточке сточится пару сантиметров и лезвие станет полукруглым.
