@@boldee101 Tell us about your machining skills then? What type of dissimiliar metals is this man working with that would pose a problem for welding? What type of rod should be used for this? How many years have you worked on a metal lathe?

Everyone crapping on the work and manner in which it's performed need to keep in mind that knuckle is probably from a truck built in the 60s. They have no choice to replace it , probably none around and can't afford a new one if they even find one.
YOU CANNOT STICK WELD CAST IRON TO HOT ROLLED PLATE. IT DOESNT WORK! NEVER HAS! NEVER WILL! You can only braze cast iron and even then you have to preheat the material. This will never work!
it's from an excavator, not truck. And we have quite similar in new machines, they don't change so much through years. so availability is not an issue a think, but the price is. I bet over $3k for this part.

beautiful work! I was thinking press fit it all then weld. but you single-pointed everything and threaded it together then welded for a much higher strength. probably need that since it is for heavy equipment. you single point cut those threads real quick too. always takes me longer to do that. i like the dychem technic. coat the surface then thread until the paint is gone. I'll have to try that trick. instead of messing with my fancy thread mics.
When welding in the lathe, always have the earth clamped to the part, do not send the current through the bearing, this can seriously f**k the bearings!

The use of screw threads to avoid high tolerance machining is amazing!
I really enjoy seeing things made with basic machines and made up tooling. It shows what can be done without expensive equipment.
Them damn lathes are expensive. I get what you mean though i agree too lol.
Those are expensive drill bits and machines he is using!!
Love how they build from scratch!!
