Ive had my 2018 chr (started with 20miles) for over a year and i love it!!! What this guy FORGOT to mention, he might just be talking about the base- •Rearview mirrors fold and heat up •Rearview mirrors will let you know if someone is next to you by singling a light •You can turn a sensory mode on that keeps you in the lane. If you get too close to any lines, the wheel will throw you off of it and make a beeping noise. •Front two seats DO heat up •The backup cam, should be same for both base and deluxe 2018/2019, is in the mirror which I freakin love!!! •Idk about the base but the deluxe has a push start •You can just grab the door handle to unlock the car •The rearview mirrors shine the logo when they open at night •It has normal, echo and sport mode which should be for both. Sport mode is great for the snow •The sensor camera is in the front logo and behind the mirror. Yes this car has two stop, lane cameras •THE BACK WINDOW IS FINE!!! Dude just brush the freakin snow off like your legally supposed to!!! Or better yet use the freakin wiper on the back. •The speed is fine dude. This video really showed that this was your first time in this car Only negatives really is •My doors dont automatically lock when you put it in drive. Idk if thats just a defect that toyota can fix •No power seats for some reason •The Rav4’s have the button to close the trunk. This doesnt. •No sunroof😭 the 2017 did have one. The car started in the UK and they saw that people THERE didn’t like the sunroof...so they took it out. GIVE THE USA A CHANCE!! So really this is a great CROSSOVER to own. I went with this because I didnt want a car(Camry) and I didnt want a full suv (Rav4,4Runners) Thats my review on this glorious crossover Thanks for reading
Alexander TheeGreat I have a 2018 that I now have about 60k on it and it’s been great, I like speed so the speed and acceleration isn’t the best but it’s reasonable for what it is and it gets great again mileage. They are very safe as well, I’ve been hit on the driver side by a semi truck and had to get the whole left side replaced and it was almost totalled out but I walked away with no scratches so props to toyota. I personally would rather have the back up camera video on the radio rather then the Rearview mirror but I’ve grown used to it at this point.
I just bought the C-HR and took it for a 4 hour road trip. I will admit, you do get stiff fairly quick (within an hour and a half) as the seats dont have much padding. (Or maybe they are just new) However, it is very fun to drive. From the driver assist features down to the cab environment, just an awesome trip. And then you get out and look at it! Just a beautiful design! Definately one of my better purchases.
Good to hear 👍😃 I am looking at purchasing one but am concerned about the blind spots in back as shown in this video. Do you find the blind spots a problem?
I’ve had my 2020 for two years and I couldn’t ask for a better car..super cool looking, sleek, super fast and responsive, great in winter conditions, roomy, nothing bad at all.and as for the dumb blind spot, every car has a blind spot, just check once in mirror, turn head quickly to look, and check mirror again, and no big deal.
I’ve had my 2019 CHR for about five months and I love it. I bought it because I think it’s a really neat looking car. I wasn’t aware of all the advanced things it can do and extra features it has and It feels like I find out something new it can do everyday. My favorite surprise was the first time I approached the car at night with the key in my pocket and before I even touched the car the side mirrors popped out sporting decorative lights that say -Toyota CHR - on the ground. It’s like my car is saying “ Welcome Jody. Let’s go for a ride”. Lol, love it!
I have a 2018 and I love it ! It has heated seats and all the same technology as the 2019 except apple car play . It also has eco and sport modes. It also has an awesome feature he didn't mention. When you're driving and come to a really long red light, you can press the "hold" button down by the shifter and it HOLDS THE BREAK FOR YOU until you press the gas! That's so nice considering the lights where I live take forever. The 2019 has it too. I do wish it had AWD though. But besides that I absolutely adore everything about this car. I've moved so much stuff in it including a vanity and chair! There's so much space! Great job Toyota !
I have had my 2019 C-HR for almost four months, and I love it! The complaint about acceleration speed is legitimate, but I've never had a problem with merging. The smaller back seat windows would be problematic for kids, but I rarely have anyone in the back. It handles very well, especially going around corners, and it's really fun to drive.
I've had my 2019 chr XLE for 4 months now and love it. Mine didnt come with the blue interior trim but it does have multi colored reflective glitter on all black interior trim which I love. Also, Blue flame is not a flat color, it has a unique shimmer to it in person just in case anyone was wondering. :)
I saw this color in person yesterday, and it was freaking awesome! ☺ But you mean to say, it is not a non-metallic color. "Flat is the oposite of gloss". It certainly does have that really cool pearl on the edges and curves, in bright sunlight.
Diana Vanessa Maritza Smith ahhh, good point. It also looks a little tight. I have a 2004 Camry and it’s great. It’s beautiful bc garaged. Its interior is big, roomy. I think I would be greatly disappointed if I purchased C-HR, i was interested but as I said main problem interior too tight, no sun roof and font like the rear lights.
I have drove it. It is very comfortable to drive for a female or male in decent shape....I am 5'9" female with a long torso...head room is fine and leg room. My husband is 5'9" also and is comfortable driving it. We are both average weight...I don't think a heavy person would find it comfortable.
I have the 2018 CHR :/ but you know what I love my car either way. Every year when we see new cars come out, of course we want it but I’m happy with mine❤️
Hey Mike, I purchased a 2019 C-HR last October and I have to say, I'm VERY pleased with the vehicle. btw the way I handled the rear seats is I just put all the head rests in the down position and I can see very well out of the back window. Great review, Thanks.
Huh...my friends have this car and they don't even have jobs and haven't had a job in a decade at least. They got approved for car loans...you jusr need to get a loan.
The funky design would be acceptable if they gave it awd, a sportier motor and a manual or passable automatic. I feel like people would eat up truly sporty cuvs under 35k with the hot hatch not far behind the sedan in America.
E C point taken but the edge is neither funky or less than 35k. I do wish they called it the Edge GT instead since its so hefty and only available in automatic.
i agree, im looking for a new vehicle and want a toyota, if this thing had 4x4 or awd and about 70hp more i would be interested. but as soon as he said fwd and not enough power to pull a greased string out of a cats ass i lost interest.
Many who had a smaller hatchback like Ford focus are now buying C-HR or Nissan Juke. Often with some gutless 1.2 engine and manual or CVT box and front wheel drive, because most buyers are women and they don´t care for a 150+hp engine. Because they don´t want any of that and those who want a sporty small car will buy a Golf GTI, Focus RS. If it has nice alloys, cool color then it´s fine for them. Basically a city car with slightly higher ground clearance and higher seating position for better view in city traffic where they drive 90% of the time and youthful look. And a bargain price. That´s it.
I bought mine in 2017. Had it 4 years and took great care of it. Started making a strange humming noise in engine, turns out it was the transmission! Was going to cost $8,000 to replace! I don't think so. Traded it in and got a Camry. Sure it's stylish but not worth the headache with the CVT transmission.
In 2019, they fixed the transmission issues. First gear is now an actual gear. And then it switches over to CVT. Acceleration is fine. I have logged almost 80,000 mi on mine with proper maintenance and I have had no problems. I think Toyota got it right in 2019 with the CVT
I got a 2018 CHR 2/24/2018. My first tank of gas I got 29.4 mpg it then started to get better the best mpg was 41.4 mpg and the worst was the 29.4. I have to say this car IS the best car I ever had. I owned 24 cars in my lifetime and my first toyota. I have to say Toyota dropped the ball. SUNROOF, I need a sunroof. All and all very nice car.
@@lidiageo Mine too. Averaged 52 mpg (5.4 l/100) over 1,500 mile (2,300 km) drive from the South of France to UK and back. The car is not a V8 and its target market are not interested in muscle cars. In Europe 90% of C-HRs bought are Hybrids. Tells you something. Toyota will not produce a diesel, neither will they sell the 1.2 petrol in Europe in the future. 2 million hybrid cars have already been sold by Toyota in Europe. Diesel is dying, or being killed off, because of VW, and because of governments. You can't transition from diesel to petrol once you've experienced economy without considering a hybrid. And, long gone are the days of open highways with nobody on it but you for hours, well not in Europe. France, for example, was sold on diesels, and now it is being taken away by successive government actions. Owners need an alternative, and most of them do not want to go from 50 mpg to 29 mpg especially when petrol is double the price it is in the US. Americans have, for years, enjoyed low petrol prices and leasing as well as many other ways to buy a car you can't afford paying for it on the never never. Europeans prefer to buy what they can afford now, and not over extend themselves with masses of debt (well every European except those from that tiny island called the UK, but don't get me started). Maybe Hybrids will take off in the US, but, not until the love of the gauche and the unnecessary flaunting of success starts to hit drivers in their pockets.
I have the 19' C-HR HYBRID MODELLISTA series, the most "luxury" version you can purchase from this specific model, it's the most aggressive and urban stylish C-HR. This is the car of my dream, I can go camping, fishing, I drive in Tokyo, in the Highway. It's everything I ever wanted. The C-HR put its rivals in the trash in my opinion, mine specially, has heat seat, heat handle, automatic proximity sensors 360, back camera assistant, voice control, full access handle control, even the mirrors don't get foggy, or wet, or frozen. It has 19" wheels ( original not purchased separate) it is hybrid, it's extremely quiet, and I can run 30km/L. I don't have spare tire, so the get a little bit "light", it give more power, I can feel it can handle 5 adults + luggage with no problems. Very powerful for its motor. I'm 100% satisfied, since I was in mind about the new RAV4 or the C-HR. I feel I make a right decision. From Japan, with love. Peace
My Prius is made. In Japan. If made in Japan the first letter for the VIN is a. “J”. Is the ch-r made in wonderful Japan. I hope so. I prefer Made In Japan. Thanks
Śùļmá Ķháņ I got in one and it feels weird haha, I kind of like the rear seats because of the giant C pillar which I think provides a little extra protection in an accident
I have a 2003 RAV4 and still runs great, no serious problems so I decided to buy another car and stuck with the Toyota brand. I purchased a 2018 C-HR and I really enjoy driving it. A couple complaints, but all in all, happy with it!! I live in Ohio which has a lot of snow and no problem driving in bad weather.
Saw this car in 2018 and just thought it looked beautiful. Well, yesterday was my friends 60th birthday and we went car shopping. I of course introduced the C-HR to her and she loved it. We then went looking around to compare.. many hours later.. she was driving the C-HR home brand new 2019. He first ever brand new car and she loves it. Her neighbors, her family and I myself love it. The price to what was offered was far better then the Kick, Kona, Rogue, and a couple other. I give it a must drive.
Rabbit Snare I had a Juke that was totaled in an accident too!! I loved it, and I’m looking to upgrade, but I was use to the Juke, is the chr worth it?
I was so impressed with the 2019 C-HR, I bought one! I got a 2 tone XLE model and it is a stunner. The 2 things that really made the difference for me was (1) all the incredible safety features and technology packed into the car to help keep my family safe and (2) the legendary Toyota quality you get from Toyota. I have a 6 year bumper to bumper warranty and I could not be any happier especially after using this car to replace my previous 20 year old money pit of a car. I live in CA and I will be adding all the TRD options available to the C-HR which include the TRD Air Intake for more horsepower and torque, the TRD Lowering Springs for a better stance and handling and the TRD Oil Cap, just because :) Could not be happier with this car. BTW I love the Puddle Lights and the G Monitor.
I just brought one been driving since I was 21 driven all kinds of car and I say Toyota is my favorite. Show me a car without flaws and I’ll say there’s none. They’re man made. Live, love and enjoy life’s too short. ❤️❤️💋
I bought the 2018 and I love it. The audio is the only drawback, there is no navigation and the backup camera is In The rear view mirror. I love my gurl and she gets many compliments.
Me and my Fiancee bought one in 🇹🇭 ! Been driving in the country side , Bangkok Downtown (in rush hour 😂) and in the highway ( 950 km in 6 days) . It's work perfect for us and I really LOVE it 🚘🇹🇭🙇♂️
Test drive a Kona, hrv and this...was blown away by how much I enjoyed being in this car. Felt nice, didn't take long to get situated... excited to get a 2018 premium and put my touches on it
I love the styling. I love the colors it comes in. Like you said, I appreciate and respect the risk they took with such an aggressive look on a small SUV. This category is hot and they want to stand out. I'd be more of a player with AWD and turbo. Kinda the standard these days...
I have the 2018 chr and love it! Sport mode is very fun and eco mode gets around 36 mph with high octane fuel. It's very aerodynamic and a great handling ride! We have the upgraded version not the base and it has heated seats and auto high head lights as well as lower fog lights. Great buy!!
I have a 2018 I got in 2017. I got the premium and LOVE IT. I get 38mpg. The safety features are awesome. Lane assist and frontend collision prevention. She almost drives herself!!! Her name is Joyce. Lol After 2 years, I have to say best useable car ever for a work car/highway driving.
My wife bought one of these last June and she loves it. I personally thinks it needs at least 30 or 40 more hp, a real automatic transmission instead of the stupid CVT and awd. An optional manual trans and GPS would be nice, too.
What I think is, the styling (that paint) Toyota dependabilty, the price (value) is as good as it gets for a small SUV ! I absolutely love it ☺ My next car ???
I have the Toyota Aygo (2016 version) in the same color, I'm saving up for this car myself, same color! :D Though here in Denmark the price is almost double as in the states sadly.
2019 Toyota CHR is way better looking than Honda HRV. I got this vehicle today 2019 Toyota CHR blue flame and I like the ride and it is different and also easy to park at home or at the city road. Thank you Toyota for making good vehicle again.
WRXIMPREZARED2018 SUBARU lol. The hrv looks way better. Toyota’s over Honda’s but the chr is truly ugly in person. This color makes up for it a little bit
its cute but the reviews of CHR vs HRV are really sad. I have an HRV and agree this car is cuter, but WAY too many flaws that the HRV doesn't have. I can not stand not being able to accelerate like when I need to changes lanes or something important. would never buy this car unless its vastly improved and manual T is added.
My dream car has been the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but Jeeps are kinda expensive and hard on gas. I want to be higher up than my Dodge Caliber, but don't really like the huge size of an suv. This car just might be mines. I am going to keep looking into hatchbacks and crossovers.
I own a 2019 CHR! Love it for the most part. Would love to know why there isn’t a trunk release button inside the car or automatic seats. There isn’t great visibility but with all the camera around the car, it hasn’t been much of an issue. My kids aren’t crazy about the back seat. They feel like they are in an airplane with the little windows. My favorite is the break assist and cruise control that adjust. It makes long trips a breeze!
The limited chr which I own has heated seats and all the perks. I love this car. I am 65 in March and have always driven mustang convertibles, Nissan 280zx, Mazda rx7, and though this car doesn't have a big engine the manual shift option will let you get up and go.
Right!, Back in the day my RWD '96 BMW 318Ti Sport hatch got stuck in a deep snow with summer tires on. I then put Blizzak Winter tires and the car was a snow driving champ. A great handling car will handle good in the Winter with snow tires on...even if its a rear drive car. A front wheel car is better and all most will need. AWD is a luxury and great to have for those in the North with a lot of snow and ice.
The best review of the C-HR. Very honest, no pretentions as a super expert as the others! I'm planning to adjust my car payments to cope with the financial impact of COVID-19, so I now will go for this car. Thanks also for the additional info from owners, you help me make up my mind.
I just purchased the 2019 CH-R & love it! I also owned the Juke Nismo and loved that. I guess I love odd looking cars! I’m not so concerned that it’s not a fast car as I ended up getting 4 tickets in my Nismo.
I have a 2012 Juke and I'm going to test drive the CH-R tomorrow! I'm a bit worried about the possible lack of acceleration. I've happily zipped around in my juke for 170k miles---wish I didn't have to let it go!!
Whoa, this was one of the best reviews (if not the best) I've ever seen. True, down to earth and practical. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm really considering buying this vehicle. Still wanna check the HRV before finalizing the deal. 👍👍👍
this is one of the best looking car, right now, looks fun to drive too. I don't mind much about rear view as long as it have a rear view cam. Looking forward to get one as my next car.
It’s really popular here in Singapore. Thanks to it’s funky design and color options. Most of the owners here rice it out with some really hideous looking bodykits then neglect to change the rims leaving the factory ones sitting “inside” the wheel arches which make the overall car look terrible.
We bought the C-HR this past fall and love it! The engine has plenty of torque to get you out of trouble when traffic gets hectic, the automatic transmission is OK but better when in the Sport mode (tends to rev high) and the CarPlay within the infotainment system is smart. It is a commuter car for me and a 2nd car for our family (we bought a Highlander almost 2 years ago new). It has plenty of space for our kids, stuff and gets great gas mileage. It is our first Toyota smaller car and we are impressed with it. I would purchase it again.
I took one of these for a test drive yesterday. I loved it. But was disappointed it did not have power or heated seats. Also no CD player. Very comfortable ride and fun to drive.
I very recently bought this car, the most expensive version with most of the extras. In cyprus you cannot get the expensive sat nav for some reason which means no voice control. what I also dont like is that the toyota garage seemed to have no idea about the 2019 model with apple carplay so I settled for the 2018 model that does not have it. I like I get around 430 miles from a full tank of octane 98. Showing 58MPG with normal driving I would consider it to be. I hate that the front seats are manual seats. I dont get why. For me I have no issues seeing out the back, I adjusted the mirror and it was fine for me at least, maybe that differs on your hight? I like the amount of extras it has like heated seats, keyless entry, automatic stop and go cruise control and all the good stuff. I base my care purchases on the extras mainly and never saw myself previously buying a toyota but I am glad I did. I previously had a Mercedes c350e and was used to the speed of the Merc, but I dont see myself in another car and I did a lot of searching for the right car.
Hey I'm going to be honest with you I can't drive big cars or trucks but only my 01 Santa Fe and recently it die and I'm looking for a new car I heard the visibility is not that good is it true
@@AlejandroP1980s I would not really call it a big car. its normal size imo and its why I like it. I would not drive a big car either I dont think. driving it like an old man and I got it to 60mpg :D But these are the roads in cyprus and they are very different to the UK ones, long straights mostly. When i test drove the car I could not see a thing behind me, but when I bought it I found I could see really clearly, but I should note that I have the chair upright so I dont hurt my back Also when I plug in my phone to charge and i am streaming music via spotify on bluetooth the music seems to cut off for some reason, plus I might not have gotten the sat nav because when you connect via bluetooth and use google maps it announces the directions via the car speaker. The boot space is not amazing either, but I dont need a huge amount of it. much smaller than I expected. Also the whats that thing called you pull down to block the sunlight... that thing should be a little bigger imo. it is a little small for my liking
@@AlejandroP1980s I really dont :P It was my first merc and it was great, but the advertised MPG was more like 30, but it was much faster with 300HP. I owned it for a year. running costs were fine as you get like 5 years free services, but it was not for me. I have driven more exotic cars like a Ferrari 458 (ancient now) an aventador and porche for a few hours at thruxton, but I have no clue about them. i just happened to buy the CHR and gave my opinion I saw a video of one guy getting 63MPG and have no idea how he managed to get it that high. I struggle to keep it 60.5MPG roughly.
I have a 2019 CH-R and LOVE it! I currently have 95,000 miles on it...and the transmission went out. Thankfully it is certified and under warranty. The transmission going out so early is a bit concerning. However, it is very fun to drive and SO thankful I have it! Love this little car/suv.
It is time to update and upgrade the visibility. It is also using an out of date engine and transmission which have already been improved in the 2019 Corolla hatch.
@Benjamin Burkhardt One of us is wrong about the 2019 engine and CVT in the C-HR but I certainly agree the manual, AWD and Hybrid options offered in Europe ought to be available here.
My wife and I bought the FIRST 2019 C-HR in Lafayette Louisiana, My wife wanted a JEEP Renegade, I told her HELL NO let's go look around and my wife had a supra years ago and she had it for 15 years. AS SOON as she saw this car and al the options for the price. SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS CAR! MY WIFE MADE ME BREAK OUT THE CHECKBOOK AND WRITE THAT 25,789 DOLLAR CHECK RIGHT THEN! THANK GOD I HAD THE MONEY! ANS STILL AFTER MORE THAN 2 MONTHS I HAVE NOT EVEN SAT IN IT. My Wife says, YOU HAVE YOUR TRUCK AND I HAVE MY TOYOTA C-HR! YOU DRIVE YOURS AND I'LL DRIVE MINE.
I think you are missing a huge point for this car. It is probably the only car on the market with full range dynamic cruise control for any where near this price. I have owned the 2018 CH-R for a year and it is pretty much the best commuter car around for heavy traffic areas. I just lock on the car in front of me and it keeps pace automatically. Almost all of the other cars will only activate the dynamic cruise control if you are going around 30 MPH or more. A lot of people want 4wd and all that, and that is a great option, but this is a 20 - 24 k car with fit and finish and gets me where I want to go. I have had 4wd and it is just extra weight and more stuff to break down. I bought this instead of a prius because fuel is affordable at it's MPG and I don't have to worry about hybrid stuff breaking down. Id rather get a electric car OR a ICE instead of a hybrid.
Got one in Feb. 2019.. Its a nice ride with only a couple hang ups. Being only 5'3" shutting the back hatch is a pain in the butt, especially seeing as I have a bad back. The only other thing is that back door handle. When your hands are full there is no reaching up to open the back door. Would I get another? No. I liked my Camry much more but it was 13yrs old and getting tired. Still a great car and had no problems at all with it, but it needed new sneakers and I traded it in instead.
they do offer an AWD and even a hybrid version, but only in Europe. And AWD is only available with a turbo engine. It's like they think no one lives north of... well, North Carolina.
Mine does 0-60 mph in 8 secs totally stock. 2 litre Hybrid in UK. It is not the slowest on the road but plenty of power for our roads. Power delivery is very smooth especially with additional power from battery and most importantly it has no turbo lag as there is no turbo.
Loved the handling and ride, didn't mind the so-so acceleration, but the lack of rear visibility prevented me from buying the C-HR when it was introduced. Looks are great but being able to look behind you should be regarded as a necessary safety feature.
In Europe there is no 2.0 available. You ca choose between 1.2 turbo (115HP) and 1.8 HSD (122 HP combined). 1.2 is also with AWD option. There are several trims: from basic seats made of fabric up to a mix of leather and fabrics with heating, set of full LED head and reat lights, also some two-tone body with black roof versions ("Selection"), JBL audio set is an option. We have CHR Hybrid (HSD) 2017 - it is a great car despite of lack of power. Real, everyday use results satysfying fuel consumption (39-47 MPG, real life, not on paper), but if you try a little - 52 MPG it is achievable. My wife is very happy with it and loves to ride it.
That departure angle must be for big cities like San Francisco with their questionable road and driveway designs that seem to scrape the bottom of most cars. What's the front approach angle? Does the C-HR have an always on rear view camera to compensate for the bad rear view?
The fact that it’s underpowered is a huge issue for me which is also a reason you wouldn’t want it to be AWD. AWD cars tend to be heavier than their two wheel drive counterparts. Toyota needs to add 50 HP to it.
AWD is available in Europe 😉 I got a hybrid version of C-HR 3 weeks ago. Great car. I have no problems with the back window poor visiblity . Rear camera is a great help when parking. And need no shelf for the phone, I keeep it in my purse, connected to Toyota Touch infotainment system via bluetooth. I fell in love with this car 😄
Seems to me Toyota can make thier next big market push by "simply" adding the hybrid rear wheel motor to the whole lineup, like they did with the rav4 . I wonder if they don't do it to keep their market segmentation.
More like stagnation. I love Toyota and do hope they keep upgrading their basic and already good cars also that crappy Entune 3.0 system. BTW I own a new 2019 Corolla Hatchback.
A couple of months or so ago, while having my '09 Corolla serviced AGAIN for ANOTHER recall (passenger side airbag), I had the opportunity to examine one of these in the dealer's showroom. Its roominess was pleasantly surprising. I can sit behind myself with plenty of leg and headroom, and getting in and out of the back is easy. Even with the dash jutting out on the passenger side, there was plenty of room for my knees (I'm 6'1" tall). In my opinion, the C-HR is a Corolla on stilts. If I was in the market for a new Corolla, I'd have this.
With the 2L engine from the GT86 and with a little help from the TRD department spending an adäquat 4x4 system this thing could outsold the RAV and the Camry together.
Then it's a good idea as a company NOT to do it then, no? Why actively try to kill the market for your own products? On a side note, it could've gotten AWD option alone without stepping on the Rav4's toes. HR-V is a much better package at this price point. Toyota dropped the ball here.
Just got my 2019 CHR basic model. I’m glad you made this video in the snow because I’m in Connecticut and I was a lil worried on how it would drive in the snow.
I have that exact model in that color! (BTW color is called "Blue Flame"). It rides very smooth, corners well, excellent mileage. Only negative is that rear passengers complain of the "little rear side windows."
The overseas C-HR, Toyota offers AWD and Hybrid models. They need to do the same here. They even now offer the dowdy looking Prius as an AWD vehicle, why won't they do the same for this car marketed as an SAV? Fail!!
What ticks me off is the blind spot. I am heavily dependent on looking over my shoulder whenever I change lanes but that's not even possible with the CHR since if you look over your shoulder, you will see nothing bc the side windows are 30% smaller than the conventional size.
Needs AWD - what they should do is something similar to the Prius AWD - hybrid electric AWD that doesn't add a lot of cost, but improves fuel economy and gives you that lower speed help from the rear wheels that is really all you need out of small AWD cars.
I don’t really like crossovers. But ever since I’ve seen the commercials for this car I thought it looked lowkey pretty cool. It has that concept car look imo. But I was expecting visibility to be rough. I assume it has a backup camera tho, so it’ll probably mitigate that.
To be honest, the C-HR has been vastly improved for this model year over the decent (if not great) start of its life just last year. It has an interesting stand-out design that even works yet does look pretty good (basically a better looking Nissan Juke), it's well equipped for the price, has a functional interior with good quality especially given the price point of this vehicle, a decent amount of room despite the design and the size of SUV this is, has genuinely fun road manners (despite its weak powertrain) However, with flaws like the lack of all-wheel drive, weak powertrain, subpar-at-best fuel economy, and the fact that I think it relies more on form over function (Jesus Christ, the claustrophobic rear seat and massive rear blind spots...), do prove that C-HR still has some room for improvement, especially when we're talking about Toyota, who has put out the impressive new Camry, the near-perfect new Avalon, the surprising new Corolla (both sedan and hatchback), the interesting (in a positive demeanour) new RAV4, and so far, even the re-imagined badass new Supra. But again, despite its flaws, I still think the C-HR is a fun pick if you're shopping within the Sub-Compact SUV segment. *FINAL RATING:* 7/10 = Good
I have the 2018 1.2 turbo petrol C-HR Excel (I'm in the UK) and love it. I have had it nearly a year and still enjoy driving it. I get better MPG than what was shown in the video. The blue trim in the UK is only in the hybrid models otherwise it is a grey/silver colour but still stands out. I don't know if it is still the same for the 2019 model but the plastics in the interior are all textured differently too which is another thing that makes the car more quirky. When it comes to replacing the car I will consider getting another C-HR
Nice review. Recently sat in one at dealer. Was impressed with comfort. Priced good, but no Awd slims the price. Quirky neatness like a Mini Cooper/Countryman.
Ive had my 2018 chr (started with 20miles) for over a year and i love it!!!
What this guy FORGOT to mention, he might just be talking about the base-
•Rearview mirrors fold and heat up
•Rearview mirrors will let you know if someone is next to you by singling a light
•You can turn a sensory mode on that keeps you in the lane. If you get too close to any lines, the wheel will throw you off of it and make a beeping noise.
•Front two seats DO heat up
•The backup cam, should be same for both base and deluxe 2018/2019, is in the mirror which I freakin love!!!
•Idk about the base but the deluxe has a push start
•You can just grab the door handle to unlock the car
•The rearview mirrors shine the logo when they open at night
•It has normal, echo and sport mode which should be for both. Sport mode is great for the snow
•The sensor camera is in the front logo and behind the mirror. Yes this car has two stop, lane cameras
•THE BACK WINDOW IS FINE!!! Dude just brush the freakin snow off like your legally supposed to!!! Or better yet use the freakin wiper on the back.
•The speed is fine dude. This video really showed that this was your first time in this car
Only negatives really is
•My doors dont automatically lock when you put it in drive. Idk if thats just a defect that toyota can fix
•No power seats for some reason
•The Rav4’s have the button to close the trunk. This doesnt.
•No sunroof😭 the 2017 did have one. The car started in the UK and they saw that people THERE didn’t like the sunroof...so they took it out. GIVE THE USA A CHANCE!!
So really this is a great CROSSOVER to own.
I went with this because I didnt want a car(Camry) and I didnt want a full suv (Rav4,4Runners)
Thats my review on this glorious crossover
Thanks for reading
Alexander TheeGreat EXCELLENT addition of a review. I just bought a 2019 & i love it
Thank you for this review! I was not intending on getting this car but I gave it a test drive and I love it!!!
Do the lights flash like that all the time?
BillieAnne Jones no, that’s camera frame rate issue. Constant lights.
LOVE LOVE LOVE MY C-HR!!! BEST TOYOTA I HAVE OWNED. It's fun to drive, very roomy and extremely comfortable. Very little road noise.
Good to hear 👍😃 I am looking at purchasing one but am concerned about the blind spots in back as shown in this video. Do you find the blind spots a problem?
You are the first one who really appreciated it as a customer!!
I just bought a recon yr 2018. So many functions, is there any manual/ video for me to check out please? Send me the links...
Yees o like to.
Have you tried the sport mode? Big difference in acceleration. :)
@@briensewart9794 no I haven't! I was so proud of myself for learning how to do all the tricks it knows, but I missed that. Thanks!
Brien Sewart
Do you just leave sport mode on all the time? Sorry total noob here with cars.
Hey Kathryn do you still have it and do you still enjoy it? I am thinking of purchasing one.
I love the design. I just wish it had a sunroof.
Yea I wish too
Not sure he really didn’t look comfortable in that car,.
An K he was too big!
I have drove it. It is very comfortable to drive for a female or male in decent shape....I am 5'9" female with a long torso...head room is fine and leg room. My husband is 5'9" also and is comfortable driving it. We are both average weight...I don't think a heavy person would find it comfortable.
Years ago this vehicle would have got the Scion badge. I'm impressed...keep it up Toyota
I have the 2018 CHR :/ but you know what I love my car either way. Every year when we see new cars come out, of course we want it but I’m happy with mine❤️
Do you still love it? Thinking of buying one.
Hey Mike, I purchased a 2019 C-HR last October and I have to say, I'm VERY pleased with the vehicle. btw the way I handled the rear seats is I just put all the head rests in the down position and I can see very well out of the back window. Great review, Thanks.
i have a question ,do you hear air coming from out side into the cabin like a whistle ?
@@lcuello387, No, my cabin is very quiet, with little wind noise.
@L MIt is an absolute JOY to drive especially on hilly roads with lots of curves. Very Tight and really fun vehicle to drive.
is there much problems with blind spots because of the back? and is backing up/reverse parking difficult bc of the small picture in the review?
is there much problems with blind spots because of the back? and is backing up/reverse parking difficult bc of the small picture in the review?
I don't like sitting in the back seat, feels claustrophobic, almost like your trapped in a trunk!.
Low key my dream car rn 🥺 one day I’ll be able to afford it 🙌🏽💜
I share the same sentiments :)
These cars are ridiculously cheap used with low miles. Which is why I’m here to figure out why the resale value tanks
Huh...my friends have this car and they don't even have jobs and haven't had a job in a decade at least. They got approved for car loans...you jusr need to get a loan.
I just bought it. I hope u will too
it sucks and my parents going to buy it today😭
The funky design would be acceptable if they gave it awd, a sportier motor and a manual or passable automatic. I feel like people would eat up truly sporty cuvs under 35k with the hot hatch not far behind the sedan in America.
Nicholas Arceri you mean?... You mean the new Ford Edge ST? Lol
E C point taken but the edge is neither funky or less than 35k. I do wish they called it the Edge GT instead since its so hefty and only available in automatic.
@chez421 yes! with a silly 1.2 liter engine and a CVT a bad joke!
i agree, im looking for a new vehicle and want a toyota, if this thing had 4x4 or awd and about 70hp more i would be interested. but as soon as he said fwd and not enough power to pull a greased string out of a cats ass i lost interest.
Mine is in the shop now with transmission issues too...wonder if its a CH-R thing...
The addition of the 2019 Corolla's DFE 2.0L and AWD will make the CH-R a ton better!
Mine is híbrid.
Maybe Hybrids will take off in the US, but, not until the love of the gauche and the unnecessary flaunting of success starts to hit drivers in their pockets.
bob gleaser i agree. Sunroof would be great on this car.
cool little car
I work at a Toyota dealership as a sales man. You should be able to go to your closets certified dealership and get a moon roof installed
I am from the UK and have just bought a CHR 1.8 Dynamic Hybrid automatic and pick it up on Thursday, I can't wait. It is a fantastic car.
Thanks
I don’t care what y’all said I love my Toyota CH-R... y’all haters be hating 😂😂😂
Śùļmá Ķháņ how’s the CHR?
Doses Of Cars it’s perfect 👌 I just love it.. I did some customization and got a lot of compliments !
Śùļmá Ķháņ I got in one and it feels weird haha, I kind of like the rear seats because of the giant C pillar which I think provides a little extra protection in an accident
Do passengers in the rear compartment suffer a lot from a lack of AC?
Do you often hit cars in your blind spots?
@@lifeofjune007 love it.
I bought my 2019 CHR a few months ago with 8 miles on it and I absolutely looooove my CHR!
A couple complaints being? How's it going these days?
I really love the look of the C HR. I’m seriously thinking about getting one.
Just got one and it’s a head turner for sure.
The styling is like Toyota's take on a new Juke.
Yup, but that one is a joke, incomparable 😁
The Toyota looks like the the multi-talented cute sporty gymnast girlfriend you can take home to your mother.
The Juke looks like she’s a drug addict!
Honda
Yes i got a chr
@@datathunderstorm Great way of putting it......
Glad to have a regular car reviews channel. Tired of those $500k hypercars
Corolla hatchback and Honda accord had a baby
sheet of ice on the back windshield...yes it is hard to see out the back
It is easy to see out of. Turn on the defroster & back window windshield wiper.
I just bought one of these today...I really like it so far, and I only have the LE base model. Cute little car and fun to drive.
Congrats. Le is just fine. Enjoy.
How much was it out the door?
Tammy Webb I read it has poor visibility, is that true?
Just bought this car. Very cute and fun to drive
You mean leased. Bet you didnt pay cash for it.
Simon George well it’s not really any of your business is it lol
Simon George why does it matter?
I bought the 2018 and I love it. The audio is the only drawback, there is no navigation and the backup camera is In The rear view mirror. I love my gurl and she gets many compliments.
Me and my Fiancee bought one in 🇹🇭 ! Been driving in the country side , Bangkok Downtown (in rush hour 😂) and in the highway ( 950 km in 6 days) . It's work perfect for us and I really LOVE it 🚘🇹🇭🙇♂️

Sweet! Jealous!
Great buy!!
I have premium edition also with heated seats and auto high headlights. Do wish mine had the remote start tho.
How can you not love those curves? She’s gorgeous & a great ride.
It's gorgeous not she.
7:42 I agree, so thicc! Don't assume Mike's gender though and use neutral pronouns.
You can call a car she can't you
Talking about the car right?
I have a 2018 I got in 2017. I got the premium and LOVE IT. I get 38mpg. The safety features are awesome. Lane assist and frontend collision prevention. She almost drives herself!!! Her name is Joyce. Lol After 2 years, I have to say best useable car ever for a work car/highway driving.
Just bought the 2019 and I LOVE IT!!!!!
It's a Toyota which makes it even more to love well for me and I think I'll get one..
I just recently bought one and I like a lot. It feels and drives like it's really well-built !
”Take a look out the back window, you cant see”
Meanwhile: back window totally covered with snow
Window is cleared, it's just snow behind
The back window has a defroster as well as a windshield wiper, like most SUVs &/or cars have these days.
The limited chr which I own has heated seats and all the perks. I love this car. I am 65 in March and have always driven mustang convertibles, Nissan 280zx, Mazda rx7, and though this car doesn't have a big engine the manual shift option will let you get up and go.
AWD is overstated and not essential for snowy weather. Tires matter most!
True that, although I wouldnt buy an SUV if it was FWD only. A car with off road looks but without the ability is embarrassing and a waste of money.
you try driving a Mustang in a snowstorm.
Agreed, AWD for 90% of consumers is totally unnecessary. Also AWD will be less reliable overall and will be more thirsty on fuel.
exactly, depends on the tires and most importantly the driver.
This is my first American review of the car and you guys are very positive about it.
I live in Italy and have been driving the CH-R Hybrid for over a year. I love it! Such a comfortable drive. And mine has heated seats🤗
Putting a set of snow tires in winter conditions is a game changer. In fact snow tires will beat out AWD with all Seasons in the snow all winter long.
I think the style looks awesome
i am agree
its so sporty I love it
I took one of these for a test drive yesterday. I loved it. But was disappointed it did not have power or heated seats. Also no CD player. Very comfortable ride and fun to drive.
lol CD player
@@lemonjellies4985 cd is still good.

When i test drove the car I could not see a thing behind me, but when I bought it I found I could see really clearly, but I should note that I have the chair upright so I dont hurt my back
Also when I plug in my phone to charge and i am streaming music via spotify on bluetooth the music seems to cut off for some reason, plus I might not have gotten the sat nav because when you connect via bluetooth and use google maps it announces the directions via the car speaker.
I have driven more exotic cars like a Ferrari 458 (ancient now) an aventador and porche for a few hours at thruxton, but I have no clue about them. i just happened to buy the CHR and gave my opinion
I saw a video of one guy getting 63MPG and have no idea how he managed to get it that high. I struggle to keep it 60.5MPG roughly.

One of the best looking Toyota. The competition looks better especially the Mazda CX3 but in the end, Toyota CHR will last longer 6-10x

I bought this car last week it’s really very nice
It is time to update and upgrade the visibility. It is also using an out of date engine and transmission which have already been improved in the 2019 Corolla hatch.
@Benjamin Burkhardt One of us is wrong about the 2019 engine and CVT in the C-HR but I certainly agree the manual, AWD and Hybrid options offered in Europe ought to be available here.
I think it use the old CVT trasmission, without the launching gear. The motor is 2 liters but no the same as in the new hatch.
@Benjamin Burkhardt The Lexus UX being a Luxury brand, I will be disapointed if didn't take advantage of the improved transmission.
@Benjamin Burkhardt as the new Prius? It's a nice setup.
If they offered AWD it might compete well with the Subaru Crosstrek
they do offer an AWD and even a hybrid version, but only in Europe. And AWD is only available with a turbo engine.
It's like they think no one lives north of... well, North Carolina.
@@GiordanDiodato I am also a North Carolina resident and I second this comment.
Mine does 0-60 mph in 8 secs totally stock. 2 litre Hybrid in UK. It is not the slowest on the road but plenty of power for our roads. Power delivery is very smooth especially with additional power from battery and most importantly it has no turbo lag as there is no turbo.
Nothing is wrong with the car,I own one here in Australia andvery happy with it. It's all weel drive...
Loved the handling and ride, didn't mind the so-so acceleration, but the lack of rear visibility prevented me from buying the C-HR when it was introduced. Looks are great but being able to look behind you should be regarded as a necessary safety feature.
An SUV market without 4WD or even AWD? It's just a large FWD car with SUV insurance rates.
I absolutely love the look of this car!!
144hp.
@@benoitbricet8885 Extremely low :(
We are speaking about a utility car. Not meant to be whatever kind of sporty.
105 to 150 Hp is literally the major part of this market since 15 years.
theres a 1.5T model that has 171 hp
Is the flashing effect with the tri-LED's something you rigged up special for the video or can they be set this way?
1:00 If you think those headlights are cool, you should see the European version. They look even better (IMO).
Love the C-HR...I drive the new Corolla Hatchback Hybrid model (live in Sweden). The new TNGA platform has done wonders for Toyota!
That'd be a subaru crosstrek basically
Just got my 2019 CHR basic model. I’m glad you made this video in the snow because I’m in Connecticut and I was a lil worried on how it would drive in the snow.
I have that exact model in that color! (BTW color is called "Blue Flame"). It rides very smooth, corners well, excellent mileage. Only negative is that rear passengers complain of the "little rear side windows."
I own a c-hr close to a year and I love it.
Thinking about upgrading my 08 Yaris for this.
lotto I have a 08 Yaris as well and I wanna stay in the Toyota family but there are so many options
The overseas C-HR, Toyota offers AWD and Hybrid models. They need to do the same here. They even now offer the dowdy looking Prius as an AWD vehicle, why won't they do the same for this car marketed as an SAV? Fail!!
Hell, even Kia's Soul is getting an AWD version.
I say stick to the Crosstrek or HRV.
What ticks me off is the blind spot. I am heavily dependent on looking over my shoulder whenever I change lanes but that's not even possible with the CHR since if you look over your shoulder, you will see nothing bc the side windows are 30% smaller than the conventional size.
I love every thing about this car! Its sleek but sporty. The sound of it isnt bad either 😁😁😁
Great review. I like how you mention your height and use it to show how much space there really is in the car. I think I’m sold on this car.
Seen one of these last year and wow. It looked Awesome
Needs AWD - what they should do is something similar to the Prius AWD - hybrid electric AWD that doesn't add a lot of cost, but improves fuel economy and gives you that lower speed help from the rear wheels that is really all you need out of small AWD cars.
I hate the huge blind spots from huge C-pillars in the modern cars.
It has an interesting stand-out design that even works yet does look pretty good (basically a better looking Nissan Juke), it's well equipped for the price, has a functional interior with good quality especially given the price point of this vehicle, a decent amount of room despite the design and the size of SUV this is, has genuinely fun road manners (despite its weak powertrain)
However, with flaws like the lack of all-wheel drive, weak powertrain, subpar-at-best fuel economy, and the fact that I think it relies more on form over function (Jesus Christ, the claustrophobic rear seat and massive rear blind spots...), do prove that C-HR still has some room for improvement, especially when we're talking about Toyota, who has put out the impressive new Camry, the near-perfect new Avalon, the surprising new Corolla (both sedan and hatchback), the interesting (in a positive demeanour) new RAV4, and so far, even the re-imagined badass new Supra.
It seems to share a lot of features with my Nissan Juke
Nice review. Recently sat in one at dealer. Was impressed with comfort. Priced good, but no Awd slims the price. Quirky neatness like a Mini Cooper/Countryman.
