  • There are BIG changes for Toyota's C-HR in 2020. Most of the changes are on the exterior of the C-HR. On the inside there are some minor updates, including all trim levels getting Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. is the updated Toyota C-HR a good SUV made better?

    Just got a black 2020 CHR. Yes it’s not very powerful, but I love it. The smoothness in how it drives and the interior makes driving around so much more comfortable. It’s very pleasant all around. And the look is unique enough where you don’t just blend in with every other car out there, but not so funky that it looks...ugly. Great car. Love it.

      @Danielle Haenga it doesn’t pick up speed very quickly. The only time this is noticeable is when merging on the freeway, or when changing lanes and you need to get up to speed quickly. It’s not impossible, it can just feel a bit sluggish compared to many other cars these days. Corolla is a great car btw. Whatever you go with, you can’t go wrong. The CHR for me is just so damn smooth and comfortable to drive day in and day out.

    I have a 2019 C-HR XLE and love it! It is my daily driver. It does have different driving modes: Normal, Eco & Sport but they are hidden in the menu screen. Real missed opportunity to not have a "Sport" button by the gear shift. We got the car for the great driving position and the incredible safety features. The XLE is packed with safety features found on much more expensive vehicles and it comes complete with 10 airbags! The chief engineer is actually a race car driver and the handling was fine-tuned on the Nurburgring in Germany so it handles around turns very well hence the G-monitor. You get the impression the designers wanted to do much more with this car but had to scale it back to reach those MPG numbers. Toyota does offer, right from the dealer, high-performance TRD parts for this car which I got and installed. I have the TRD Air Intake Kit for more horsepower and torque and the TRD High-Performance Lowering Springs for even better handling. I can tell you I no longer get 30 MPGs but the car accelerates much faster now especially in Sport more and this is all bundled with that legendary Toyota quality. Where I am at we have what is called "Toyota Care" so for the next 3 years I do not have to pay anything for any oil changes or other routine maintenance costs. I do have to pay to have the disc pads replaced but it is an incredible value. My family and I are definitely glad we got this car.

      @Dylan Báez That is a nice combo. Not too many cars even have 2 tone paint as an option so my wife and I definitely had to have it. Our C-HR is metallic blue with a white top. I finally had to get new tires. I bought Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for my C-HR. These are amazing tires and I don't think I will even reach the limits of what they can do but with a sale at Discount Tire they were only $20 more than what Toyota was offering me for the OEM tires so I went ahead and got them. Definitely a nice upgrade for the car. Enjoy your ride!

    Just test drove this car today and it's a lot better in person than it looks. Honestly, not bad at all. Fun fact: this was originally projected as another Toyota Scion model (hence the spacious approach, small engine, modern look) but when the big shots decided they would no longer manufacture scions going forward they opted on keeping the model w/in Toyota family. Also, it has 10 air bags, most vehicles we've seen as we car shopped had 6-8 air bags. Toyota Yaris has a 2021 crossover model (that seems similar) coming soon.

The C-HR came out in early 2017 for the 2018 model year here in the states. The wheels are not all new for 2020, they’re the same wheels they’ve had since 2018. The LE and Limited get some new rims for 2020 tho. Also, the part of the front where you said should have fog lights...it does on the Limited. Also, you mentioned that there are no drive modes, but there absolutely are. There is Eco, Normal and Sport. They’re selectable in the 4.2” MID.

    I bought one of the first 2020 Toyota chr in the usa in lava. I had seen the European videos and fell in love! The dealer called all over looking for it and said that only one was sent to the US and it was in Montana. The inside is all black without the blue. I had test drove the chr that they had on the lot and really didn't care for it and hated the blue. But mine is totally different in the way it drives and thankfully didn't have that blue in it.

    I have a 2019 and all I can see that's really different in the 2020 is that it appears they took away the option for fog lights and swapped the halogen headlights for LED's. I personally don't have and don't really need fogs but for those that do it looks like they are SOL. I guess they thought the redesign of the front fascia was more important. As far as LED headlights go the first thing I did was replace those sickly halogen lamps with some high quality LED units. Since the housings were already the projector type the aftermarket LED's work perfectly. As an added bonus Toyota put the lamps in a very easy to reach location so it only took about 15 minutes to swap them out.

    We are pleased with our 2020 Limited. Looks great. Fuel is better than rating last fill up was 5.8L/100…in winter 6.8. Seats can handle a 5hr drive. Android Auto is great. Set the cruise and never worry about power, it can keep up with fast traffic so the drag strip number isn't relevant in most conditions. My criticism would be small interior space for the size of vehicle, hurky jurky cruise control and hard to clean all that angular plastic and concave body surfaces

    I just realised even the highest trim CHR sold in North America is not as highly equipped as the ones sold over here in Europe. Not sure why...for example we get proper full Adaptive LED with projector, the rear also gets full dynamic indicators that moves like in Audi models and brake lights are also full LEDs as well. Also Europe version CHR makes 185 bhp. Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto are also standard.

  • @erinj295
    @erinj295 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have the 2019 CHR, one of the many "small" details missing, there are no auto locks. Since the year 2000, you get into your car, start the engine..doors lock. Not in this futuristic hatchback. Some might say, that's no big deal..but if you're been driving for almost 19yrs WITH that feature it is a problem.
    Another issue, I had to replace my windshield because of a crack I was gifted with on the highway. Anyway, insurance paid for the windshield, HOWEVER since there are 12028382 cameras on the car the windshield needs to be calibrated and of course, ONLY the dealership can do that. #Can'twin

    I saw one this morning in all black parked near my house. It looked like a mini spaceship with tinted windows. If they had a hybrid version that got over 50 MOG, I might be interested. The fuel economy numbers of the current model kills the practicality of the vehicle. With such slow acceleration you should demand better fuel economy. It seems very heavy for the amount of interior space you get. The Kia Seltos seems like a better choice. A Hyundai Venue gets way better MPG.

    So I bought one of these in the XLE trim. It took me 3 months to figure out this thing had a sport mode. It’s in the settings under drive mode. The screen is kind of hidden because there’s no indication that the user is able to arrow down to pull up a second sub screen to get to drive mode. Totally found it by accident. Long story short, The CHR handles much better and is a lot more zippy.

    I just bought one of these and I have to say it’s not as of a lackluster driving experience as people are saying it’s very comfortable and the engine is responsive. It’s a four cylinder non turbo so I don’t understand why people think this is gonna be some kind of roadster. But honestly it drives extremely smooth I didn’t find the engine noise to be bad at all. Out of all of the crossover vehicles in this class this one looks the least like a budget, soccer mom mobile. It just has more of an edgy factor to it.
    This car definitely looks and feels way more expensive than what you’re gonna pay for it. It’s not everybody’s taste but it’s definitely unique and has a very futuristic look. If you were a fan of the scion lineup you’ll like this as well, was originally slotted to be a scion hence the strange name C-HR.

  • @sardinekisser7581
    @sardinekisser7581 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice statement earlier about the prop rods. Here's my idea: if the prop rod is placed largely out of the way, as in this little C-HR, it's not an automatic zonk. The prop rods placed front and center are terrible, and also the ones a little off center. Zonk them every time. But on the C-HR, it is largely out of the way. And prop rods age infinitely better. Older cars always have failing gas struts that need to be replaced, and they aren't exactly cheap in some cases. And for folks who rarely get under the hood, it really doesn't matter. I've met tons of folks who don't even know what kind of engine they have under the hood, much less the size, much, much less the bore and stroke and specific hp/torque numbers.

    My wife has a 2018 XLE Premium in blue and white that she bought new. Her first Toyota and probably her last. Nothing but trouble with the electrical system. There’s a parasitic leak somewhere that the dealership can’t find that drains the battery. Had to have it jumped around 7 or 8 times in the last year and a half. It doesn’t even have 5,000 miles on it and it’s on its second battery already. See how long this battery lasts before it dies.

    I think the edgy looking body style of this is really cool looking and like it a lot. The front end is ok but I think it's still missing something that could make it look a little more edgy like the rest of the body looks like. One of the biggest things I don't like about this is that they don't make this in AWD. For me living in MN where in the winter time I would for sure want that AWD. If they would make this in an AWD I think it would sell a lot better. I know a lot of people want them to make this in AWD I have been hearing. I think for more of an in town driving type vehicle this would be great for that. For more long road trips I would not so much want this. I do like how it stands out a lot more compared to other vehicles. One thing about this vehicle that does concern me a little is that I think this is going to be a vehicle that they will only make for a few years and discontinue it if the sales are not real great. That is why I think they need to make some bigger improvements on this like added AWD and more HP.
