  • On the last leg of our trip from Vermont to Arizona we encounter a life-sized comic book dinosaur in West Texas… and a western diamondback rattlesnake on an Arizona hiking trail.
We couldn’t find an official website for the city RV park in Iraan, TX. But you can search “Alley Oop Fantasy Land” and “Iraan City Park” for a map and user reviews. Also, we dare you to listen to the pop song based on the comic strip character (Alley Oop, by the Hollywood Argyles - it’s an ear worm, you’ve been warned!)
We’re headed to Arizona for a work-camping adventure with our Bigfoot travel trailer (and our two cats). But first, we’ll visit family and friends along the route. #rvlife

Happy to coexist with our black rat snakes here in NC. They help keep the rodent population down. Big change from the little garden snakes we had living in VT.

I recognize that route, been down I-10 before from Austin to El Paso. Good highway, easy to drive. We have a nephew on Hilda’s side of the family who lives in Pflugerville. The Alley Oop song brings back memories, it was popular back in the day when I was in high school.
Make sure to shake out your boots before you put them on. Had a scorpion hiding in my boots once, put the boot on and felt something crawling up my leg, quickly jumped out of my pants and watched the scorpion walk away, didn’t get stung but definitely scared me. Also, rattlesnakes sometimes travel in pairs so keep your eyes and ears open in case there is another nearby.

Yes! Fast highway, except when you're pulling an RV and trying not to get blown off the road by the occasional crosswind. We haven't seen any scorpions yet in Arizona, even after flipping rocks on purpose (one black widow spider, though, so far!)

You were close to our home in New Mexico. We were born and raised about 100 miles from Las Cruces in Silver City. Enjoy the desert!

I loved snakes, and all things animal and bird, as a child. Now I respect them and give them their space. Lots of gardner snakes around my yard. I think they might be getting my toads as the snake population seemed to be up and the toad population down over this past summer. They both do a good job at what they do so I hope for a good balance. All the many years I worked in big horse barns I "always" appreciated and protected the big black snakes if we were fortunate enough to have one around the feed rooms to keep the mice or rats down.
Your ending sunset shot is just gorgeous. 😊
    Take care. ☃️🌲♥️🌲☃️

Sounds like you are rooting for the toads - they are awesome critters too! The sunsets are pretty amazing in Arizona 😎
