- In this video, I wanted to try an experimental and more light hearted approach to VOD reviews and commentary analysis. Let's look through some interesting Mauga moments I had over Blizzcon weekend!
Now available on Steam, Overwatch 2 Season 7 Rise Of Darkness is almost here, bringing us a new control map named Samoa, some new Halloween PVE modes, a whole new Halloween and horror themed battlepass including a mythic skin for Hanzo, and a whole lot of balance changes! This year, Blizzcon revealed that Mauga would be temporarily available for everyone, along with a new gamemode called Clash, and concept arts of future heroes

Hey everyone! How did you find playing with Mauga?
Had a blast playing with him as Mercy, and has just as much fun playing AS him too. :)
well i am a tank main and i was mainly playing my two go to tanks, Sig and Ram. sooo... what i can say is... mauga literally curbstomps Ram and sig just laughs at mauga as he gets melted if he even attempt to brawl.
basically felt like if iplayed ram i wont be able to out brawl mauga, feels really bad.
as Sig you either eat up his E and get stupid shields after mauga attempts to barrel stuff you and he just falls over because no damage being done. OR he stands there outta position with a roadhog size hitbox lookin dumb as he waits out my succ and just falls over anyways.
oh my fave. charges in drops ult. you rock him and grav flux.
sooo TLDR ram falls over sig go HA makes mauga do nothin.
i think he needs some sort of change maybe... giving him armor during his E instead of flat DR or even some instant overshields, on the other hand i think he needs his damage looked at a little because the brawling between ram and mauga shouldn't be that insanely off balance. like ram wants to push in and go all punchy punchy look at me im scary, mauga just stops that from being a thing. (Ram probably needs to be looked at too tho.)

he was getting shredded in most of my games so I'd had to hard pocket him to the point my right index finger was getting tired from healing him... But it was kinda fun!! but stressful... but fun!.......but stressful..............
I recently found you and have been trying to be a good Mercy! I hated every second with him and related to everything you said in this video. Thank you for the helpful videos. 🙌

Unfortunately far too many Mauga's thought 55hp a second would let them 1v5
honestly damage boost heals him more than the actual heal beam when hes using his cardiac overdrive (at least against big targets) so that might let him 1v5 lmao

@@sagex666 boosts it a lot tbh, mercy beam on mauga in a mauga 1v1 auto wins it if there isnt an anti or discord, more damage = more cardiac overdrive heal + more critical damage / berserker overhealth. Kiri Ana is still by far the best pick with mauga though, but mercy isnt too far off considering sojourn is also really good at the moment.
I used to think Hog is a tank that requires constant healing for sustain, specially if his healing is on cd.
Then I met Mauga and I'm forever grateful my Hog's healing has damage reduction
mauga is a very fun character to play with, as and against but DEAR LORD PLEASE GIVE HIM SOME ARMOR 😭 you leave him for 2s and he just explodes
idk I feel like that would give him simply too much sustain
he already has the cooldown to get 30% damage resist and 60% lifesteal, thats together with his 40% overhealth gain on crits
@@somedude4087 I'm not asking for much, just a bit of armor 😭 yes he has some self-sustain but it's seriously not enough, he's a fucking giant he just gets melted down unless both supports are pocketing him

I got 1200 damage amped in 6 minutes on one match. But that was with a really good Ana. Mauga is so hungry for heals, that I can't imagine him having a good time with most of the support roster.
Every time I got locked into Cage Fight (not often actually) I would yell "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with ME!" and break out the glock. Still died, but had a blast every time. I had a fun time with Mauga too, but my friend did NOT because of how much healing he required.
Sometimes, the only answer as Mercy is to bring the hurricane.

i felt so similar to what u said! it was super stressful trying to learn the healing breakpoints for mauga and its so painful to play him with a suboptimal support lineup, but there were a lot of fun interactions that made playing mercy feel good. i like that beam going through barriers feels so notable - i had some really impactful feeling valks when cage fights were happening
I’ve never touched mercy a day in my life but as a tank player it’s nice to know what mercy has to keep track of, your vids are very informative.

I ugly Laughed at ana blowing up mauga with her nade
During it, I mostly played Zen so I could do the damage orb and fight with a heal orb on him and there were instances where he and other mauga were melting each other but me and the Ana/Kiriko would keep him alive.. at one point I was in transcendence during some insane ults going off and I think I could barely keep him above 50% hp with it. 💀

As kiri, having a mauga is really stressful, he demands a lot of health and almost all my suzus, which makes encounters with other chars like illari, sombra, or JQ even harder
I definitely feel Mauga needs buffs. When Mauga was on my team, I almost always had to swap to a support with better tank healing potential, and was basically forced to healbot. I think his ult is very cool. I wish I could fly to allies who are also in the cage when on Mercy though. At the same time, I think it's weird that Orisa can just casually walk out of the cage with Fortify. Orisa does not need another thing to be good against. Neither does Ana lol. But here we are! Mauga definitely seems like a fun and funny dude so I'd like to have more fun playing alongside him. Here's hoping.
Antinade is really strong against him. He is very susceptible to counterplay and relies heavily on his supports to help him out if he doesn't have overrun ready.
i feel his cardiac overdrive should cleanse debuffs on him so he has some counterplay to ana so she waits it out andnnot just anti him on cooldown
antinade ruining your existance is the tank experience in a nutshell
@@josewolf9884 True, but at least some tanks can avoid getting hit (shield, bubble). Not our boy, though.
@@aldonavarrete987I think this is the play. Maybe bump the cooldown up by a couple seconds, but giving him a cleanse would be massive, especially since he has no armour or shields

So, here's a thing from the low ranks. I have learned that certain tanks actually are GREAT damage boost/pocket targets. Especially the dive tanks. I can keep them alive when they LoS my Ana or other support and help secure a few picks, while staying in LoS of my other Support if they need some help. This can be especially helpful with someone like Kiriko because I don't have to go all in like she does and I don't take the same level or risk. I don't know if this matters as much in the upper brackets, but grabbing my Winston and going half in with him has actually put a few Brigs down that would have won otherwise.
Playing in a match with mauga in lower leagues was chaos. Half of my games ended with the enemy mauga going into match chat to apologize 😭😭
He is a character that unfortinatly needs to have a specific team built to support him. He needs to have two specifit healers to help him. Namely Ana and Kiriko are a must to build a team arroind him to keep him alive.
I feel like the secret to Mauga is the following
1. While long range on tank is never amazing, Mauga’s is better than any other tank. His close range is also amazing, but more vulnerable, and midrange is where other tanks outshine him the most.
2. He is better at counter engages than engages. His main form of protection for himself and others is Cardiac Overdrive. This doesn’t get anywhere near the value if the enemy is able to block the damage using cover, barriers, movement disengages. You want THEM to use resources to get to you/your team, so the dmg reduction/lifesteal is harder to negate.
3. He’s a bit reminiscent of JQ in regards to an almost anti-dive, squishier tank playstyle, using knife to disrupt dives (overrun for him) and shout to protect allies (Overdrive for him), except queen is more mid range and consistent, whereas Mauga is burstier and thrives at the two range extremes more. I can see a comp like Ashe, Kiriko, Hanzo, Zen, Mauga putting in some work with long range poke, and Mauga counter engages on enemy dives.
Mauga self-healing is like roghogs but with extra steps. Most people don't know how to utilize it during trail period

The fact that a 500-health hero can just evaporate like that is one of the reasons I really dislike Overwatch's balance. It's always had low TTK, but lately it seems like I'm playing... I don't know - anime Titanfall?
It was nice that they had a test period for a new hero. Did get to play damage on Saturday that was nice hade damage/tank games left for my weekly missions. But on Sunday he was not popular any more.

The question that has never been brought up is why ana's nade still reduces 100% of healing, and not a certain percentage, its a strong ability
The question has been brought up many times, it's just that nothing has been done about it.
A proposed solution is to reduce 50% of the healing but lower the cooldown of the ability. Oh wait people will still bitch about it
Sometimes it's fun to play with a character that's either alive or exploded with almost no middle ground!
Balance wise, Mauga's probably in a really good spot, weirdly enough. All he really needs is a slight lowering of his dual firing damage (as its insane, especially with the crits) and more counter play to Cage Fight. Because, holy crap, the only two heroes that can allow multiple allies to escape it are Sombra and Sym, and of those two you're only ever gonna be seeing Sombra. Orisa can just nope out of it with Fortify, which doesn't help her allies at all, Lifeweaver can pull a single ally out of it, but still leaves the rest to sorta just get on with it. And I tried Petal Platform, but the chains will pull you back into it anyway, even though the Petal still works. And an enemy Mauga can *sorta* run through it. He can't inside it, but if he's already charging, he can just run right through it. So, there's literally no counterplay to this thing aside from shooting it really quickly, but considering it's the second highest health barrier in the game, losing only to Photon Barrier, sitting at a pretty chill 1,500 Health, that's still gonna take a good second or two with a Bastion, and that's assuming Mauga decides to leave him alive long enough to let him take it down. Maybe it they divided the barrier into sections, that you could then destroy that one section and leave it, but keeping the rest of the Cage Fight active, so Mauga still keeps the infinite ammo benefit? I dunno, just throwing ideas at a wall - The obvious choices would be to either A) Lower the total health of the barrier, or B) Make the projector destructible, but both would kinda just make the ult incredibly sub par, since then it would be way too easy to shut down.
Playing support with that tank on your team is SO HORRIBLE 😭😭😭 literally cant look away for a second or he would DIE lmao. Feel like a healbot, cant really do much else but pocket Mauga

Quickplay games are trash sometimes, that penalty was not necessary.
i hate that penalty. i have really bad internet and play overwatch for fun so i sometimes get kicked out of a game and boom theres this stupid penalty preventing me from gaming for another 30 mins. whos stupid idea was this. its just quickplay dudes

I think Ana’s made just needs to absorb a chunk of health kind of like a negative shield that absorbs healing. Any healer can then remove the anti-effect early if they heal through the effect.
It keeps the flavor but adds counter play.

I have a fairly different experience because my 2nd support was almost always Kiriko (i'm kinda a kiriko magnet i guess?) But then matches went: Ana Nade into Suzu into Queen Ult and... Very self-explanatory situation

was curious on mercy/zen/bap/ana players opinions on mauga since he does get higher value from damage boosts due to his aura and passive working on a % of damage done instead of a flat value
Is his passive based on damage or just a set amount for each crit?

so 32 overhealth for crit stomp (yes it does count) and 3.6 overhealth per each crit with his guns up to a max of 150
@@somedude4087Blizzard never actually gives out the numbers for characters, so people only know if they go out of their way to find them. I literally only know the stats on his cardiac ability and nothing else.

Omg I definitely was so stressed as Mercy trying to keep that guy alive, like he would get mowed down so hard but then of course I quickly realized (when my teammate chose Mercy before I could) that Ana is great against him so I was picking Ana a lot because I knew the enemy team would have Mauga lol.
Mauga is 100% my least favorite tank to play with as support it just sucks all the fun out of the game because I just have to spam heal him 24/7

I just feel as a support I can never stop left clicking him. It's really unsatisfying and imo makes playing "support" into playing "healer". Specifically Mauga healer. 🤷♀️

Yeah... The only time I felt comfortable playing Mercy with a Mauga, is if I had an Ana or Bap. Otherwise he would just roll over so fast.
Hopefully they give him more sustain and/or damage mitigation. And finally address anti.

I think the funniest thing are people saying mercy is just a left click hero, while playing Widow.

Do you think the Resurrect should be separated from the long arm/hand animation length? Can you do a video on this?
I’ve been interrupted or bumped at the last millisecond after doing the already-long animation and cast time. Ability lost too easily.
What if you resurrect still succeeds long as you did 95% of the cast time or animation? Instead of it being lost if someone bumped you before your hand closed.

mauga is fun to play but as a supp main it feels like im always healbotting him which i don't enjoy and as a mercy main specifically i think i'm gonna switch when i see a mauga in my team bc i know i won't like stressing myself over healing mauga when i should pocket dps ): it kinda ruins the mercy-fun of my games to me

Mercy main usually. Mauga forces me to swap to either Kiriko or Bap. These two can keep up with his hungry ass. One can cleanse and one can use immortality field to keep him alive around corners
