I've had a lot of success with Zarya against him, but I don't 1v1 him. Mauga is strong against tanks, but Zarya's alt fire can ark over and hit his backline, once his supps panic you pressure him, and your team can wipe the supps. Another thing to keep in mind is he is strong killing tanks, but slow with squishies. Any other tank will reduce his backline way before he does, and without support he isn't strong at all, and without charge his repositioning is abysmal because he is the slowest firing and moving.
And I feel people are starting to catch up on thi, because last night I won 5 games in a row and only picked him like 20% of the time, I did so much better with Zarya/Rein than him.
Dive and Split-Angles are Maugas largest counter. Not specific heroes - just different strategy made to teach you Kill Priority.
Mauga is only oppressive if the rest of his team is free to take angles high ground and areas without ever being under threat of dying cause youre all clumped up in a group. The second Mauga is forced actually protect his team he is at his worst - and once 1 support and 1 dps are down - its effectively over if hes not already dead.

This. Honestly its kinda crazy how people dont understand how easy it is to deal with Mauga, hes the only tank in the game where his survivability is linked to his damage. He has no shield, no CC (no im not counting his stupid stomp because using that for CC is the biggest waste anyways) and no team utility other than the lifesteal, which you can just bait out anyways and that forces the enemy team to group up. What happens when the enemy team groups up? your team gets free off angles and can pick off the squishies. I genuinely dont think this is a character problem but a community issue. we have been stuck in this way of playing for over a year, so when we finally get a tank that makes us have to play differently, but nobody wants to do that, all of the sudden its "broken character, Blizzard is so bad, blah blah blah". Do I think hes a great character? no, his kit is intrinsically flawed and is a nightmare to balance. But I do think a big majority of the hate comes from a lack of people understanding the counterplay. Hes barely been out a month, everyone just needs to calm down.
The problem with that is if the tank dose anything he will just heal and tank more so if you get anywhere close to him like 20m heck even 30m they will die so your forced to play sigma or diva if you don't what to your fucked like I play doom it's impossible for me to do shit if I block he can just keep shooting I take like 200 dmg form burn and the half second it takes me to run so I'm fucked if I ever block and if he stays with his team I can't ever to anything if I poke well let's say doom can't poke for shit so it's a win for him if I do even enter for a second that's like half my health or he alts and well I'm so dead unless my sombra wastes emp for me to run away it's just bs his entire kit is both rush and dive shutdown he is just a stronger hog and hog is already stoung af
@Izegreatone Sounds like you're not staying out of line of sight, using hard cover, and staying outside of his Double Gun Range. He can only hold down one area and one line of sight at a time - this isn't just about your tank pick - this is about multiple team mates taking multiple lines of sight and angles so that every single time the enemy peeks - the Supports are so threatened with one shots or dives, and since Maugas cooldowns are EXTREMELY PREDICTABLE to tell where he's going, it shouldn't be a problem to dive dps and supps so they waste all their CDs on themselves, or have to move out of position to heal mauga, costing them their life, which will cost the entire teamfight. Doom is honestly a really good match up against him cause your mobility is 3x what a mauga can do - you just gotta think about where those movement CDs will place you around cover and places for Disruption. There's almost never a reason to engage Mauga as Doom- cause your whole responsibility against him as Doom is to waste Support Cooldowns and force them out of position so they die, and your DPS can clean up mauga like nothing.
@@CherryBerry689this is completely backwards imo and experience. Mauga is a great anti dive tank especially if he is smart at using his E. Best way to play against a Mauga is to go Mauga and force him to stare you down because the moment someone stops and looks at squishies they die
@studdude100 Weird cause dive is the main strategy used in Masters+ against Mauga, at least for competent teams who can communicate. I also find it weird that I never specified any specific role but you only want to choose one Role to mention. Dive & Off-Angled Poke are the most successful against Mauga as he lacks the mobility and deadliness to actually protect his team if you understand his effective ranges and know how to predict the Battlefield and disrupt positioning. The only way to deal with Mauga is to not even see him as a priority target worth taking until you have a minimum 1 Support and 1 DPS already eliminated. Kill Priority is the game mechanic he is made to teach.
I’ve seen some people saying that “the game is becoming pay to win” however they have said they will make newer hero’s not exclusive to the battle pass
Should’ve done it this battle pass though, no hero should behind a win wall or pay wall, especially in a game where the a swap can make the difference between win or lose

As a doom otp I like playing mauga as a backup if things go wrong. He’s the only tank who can even dream of having fun cuz u can’t really cc him that easily. I do agree with ur take where people abusing mauga will have there ranks inflate. I climbed from master 3 to gm and was even in top 500 for a few days after maugas release

I don’t even heal mauga when he’s doing self heal. You can just throw a healing grenade at him, and you can focus on dps, or if you’re Kiriko just focus on dps and Suzu him when he gets low. it’s redundant to double pocket him while he is in his self heal. If you get a pick during this ability window you just win the fight anyways

Most heroes made them feel different in a unique way, it made it semi fun having to learn to play against a new hero that wasn’t broke, they were just difficult to play against because of not exposed to them long enough, Mauga is horrific on all fronts

@@IAmHaz sure i main hog and I say he is the worst tank in the entire game. He is cheap not like Reinhardt and for some reason Blizzard is keeping nerfing him. They nerfed his ultimate and now he can heal whenever he wants. The hook which is broken and very easy to throw. You have six bullets in your shotgun and you can kill any DPS in two shots. All tanks are better than hog. He is a cheap hero and only people who don’t know to play the game. Zarya, Winston, Reinhardt, Wrecking ball, and Orissa require skills in the game. Even Magua needs skill. Blizzard needed his hook cool down from 8 seconds to 6 seconds. You can see a hero like Genji, he is not cheap and requires skill to be good at it.

Sounds like a skill issue on your part. Ultimate should not be ultimate. Why can’t I use movement ability to get out of junkrat trap too well we’re at it. You all used to complain about Orissa the same way before Mauga came along, and for pretty much the same reason. No one knows how to play agents him other then Ana or zen pared with kiriko or life-weever. What in actual fact you should try to play him their are lots of team comes that shut him down without Ana or zen. It’s just that he’s the first tank in a wile that you can’t just easily one v one. A supposed to be teamwork heavy game forcing you to rely on team work, oh no how dare they😱.

Junkrat trap is a literal trap, if you attach a bird to a string it will still fly around, also I’ve never once complaining about Orisa so that’s a bad comparison, the Orisa plague warfare was a skill issue that people overcame, this tank is a fun issue. You clearly didn’t understand a main issue of the video, I have infact played Mauga on an alt to get a feel of him and I can confirm he’s busted. The main point of the entire thing is that there is a VERY specific comp that high ranks are forced into just counter him which makes every game boring the moment someone sniffs his bum hairs. Sounds like you just have a knowledge issue to me or you’re a Mamuga Marauder who will drop all frelo you gained while abusing a clearly scuffed addition to the game

Personally I just think we need to increase the value of ULT's again, ULT economy is what dissuaded counter swapping, but these days there are too many abilities that subvert the need for defensive ults. Anti Nade, Immortality Field, Heal Burst, and Suzu are all abilities that in theory where just meant to stabilize the team in times of dire instability, to varying degrees and effectiveness. However, they've eneded up power creeping defensive ults through their uptime and other factors. If we wrangled abilities like these in, or made offensive ults stronger, I think we could see a return to a more fun time. And in that regard i think we should give the Tanks more defensive ults, and or tweak existing ones to be defensive. Like I could see Ram and Hammond being tweaked to be defensive for example

The fact that they gave cagwme fight a permanent hinder affect for its duration shows that on principal, they rarely think about the counterplay options of hero interaction from the other players' perspective.
Like what is a hero like tracer supposed to do against cage fight besides "never get hit by it lol" which is impractical because the two heroes have overlapping effective ranges. Once in the cage all the mobility options that allow tracer to even function as a viable character are removed. Meaning that regardless of whether a random silver tracer or fucking Dafran is in that cage they still a one burst combo free kill for anyone on the enemy team for a full 8-10 seconds cause the shit doesn't even break after mauga dies.
Clearly, the ramification of this ultimate in its current programmed state was not thought through much at all

heroes can have it worse but in a weird way if you think about it, couple with overwatch player psychology, it's not too bad for doom and ball. Cause yah subjectively to the doom or ball they feel equally as helpless and defanged, not even getting to use most of their kit. But in a macro sense it tends to not be thst bad for them cause given how your the teams sole tank people are much more likely sunken cost analysis, jump into the barrier and all in to try and save you. Plus, if one of those teammates is a Weaver, then you always get priority when it comes to who to pull out.
Meanwhile, especially in lower ranks, people heavily sleep on tracer potential impact, so you're much more likely to be left for dead.
With that being said, however, the optimal mauga gameplan is to try and force the tank into unfavorable duels so a ball or doom is much more likely to be purposely targeted to get trapped in the first place. So that kinda counter balences the counterbalance 😄.
Honestly if cage fight didn't have that unnecessary overkill, hinder effect slapped on top it actually would be quite a fun ult to fight into.
But as it stands rn the ult just feels cheap to die to. Also why in the fuck does the barrier remain after mauga die, how does after launch sigma shit like that even escapes the beta test phase. You can legit kamikaze suicide rush responders and use that broken mechanic to put people in lose-lose scenarios where even the enemy team burst him down perfectly they still can't even make a run for the point on OT if they wanted to. Degenerate shit like that shouldn't be viable.

For me as a support main specifically a brig main I find it annoying to fight with and against mauga as I either have to switch to ana or kiri to keep him alive or fight him but also when I want to play brig my shield wether in ult or not just explodes with makes it so I can barely turn a corner if mauga exists and my packs and inspire aren't enough to keep him alive so it's like I cant play the characters I like because he exists its upsetting and boring to play rn
That's kinda the point you aren't supposed to be as an off support. Brigg plays best against with the other support. Or play directly behind him with ult.

I definitely feel Blizzard needs to trade some of Mauga's self sustain for damage and defense. He should have his lifesteal reduced for himself, but not others like how Brig receives half the effect of Inspire. Also, reduce or remove his DR on Cardiac overdrive.
Also, physically eating/bodyblocking every cooldown that stuns or gives negative effects feels frustraing, while bodyblocking damage in general feels good.
Also, i feel like healing per second needs a cap to prevent pocketing. Maybe HPS outside of ults can be capped at 100, and Ana nade can increase the cap to 150 HPS? This way an Illari/Moira/Baptiste/Ana can't consistenly outheal damage from stuff like Blade.
This is definitely my biggest issue with Mauga is his self sustain is too high for the damage output. I also don't want to go back to the Blizzcon trial period either though. I think this is a great suggestion
I will say right now as an Ana/Kiriko main I hate this meta. It isn't fun even for me. I kinda just wish I could play other support because I do on occasion like playing Illari, LW and sometimes Bap. It just sucks that even in quickplay it's as headache to play anything other than Ana Kiriko. Even if I play DPS I feel like playing Sombra is vital(who I also main) which isn't fun. I just wish we had more variety again. I never played OW1 but I assume how I feel now is how people felt with older oppressive metas. Agency in the support role has been completely stripped is what it feels like.
I like the idea of healing mitigation as a general rule applied to all heroes, but only when there is more than one source of healing. So if both supports are pocketing someone, the target takes 20-30% less healing, and if it's 3 sources then 50%.

I really dont feel like mauga is broken or even that great i feel like peoples mentally when playing against him is wrong "he heals all the damage im doing to him and takes forever to kill" think of mauga like if orisa had actually threatening damage (and an actual ultimate) go after the squishies and be mindful of his LoS on you, pressure from multiple angles if possible, and if killing the backlines simply not possible i feel its an issue with support balance, not mauga himself
Orisa does not have self healing. Mauga has self healing, a massive health pool, and two bastion cannons strapped to his bumhole, the issue is one I stated in video, he's only counter-able by a specific meta, and if both teams go that specific meta just to spite each other, the game becomes pretty much a skill-less coinflip
In theory this is true, but he's a hitscan tank who is threatening at distances orisa isn't and he can keep himself alive with both healing and overhealth, so ignoring him is hard mostly because of his range.
You are absolutely insane if you think Mauga isn't busted in the state he is in. In theory it would be great to go against the squishies instead of Mauga but my dude has multiple ways to force you away from the rest of his team. He can set you on fire and force you to retreat, charge at you if you manage to evade him (and now all of a sudden it's a 2v1 at best for you, a 1v5 at worst), or the worst result is he cages you in place and now you *have* to deal with him

100% agreed. Matches with him in it are boring slug fests. Here's what I wrote about him after he first came out. "So I've been noticing matches with Mauga devolve into the following:
1. When you're on his team pour all healing and cooldowns (lamp, boosts, etc.) into your Mauga to keep him alive while he destroys everyone.
2. When you're going against him everyone focus him and pour all damage and cooldowns to kill him. If you kill him then great enjoy playing regular Overwatch fighting against the rest of the team. If you don't kill him then feelsbadman.jpg.
It's just two teams each meatballed up together to try and survive. It was really cool the first few times because it was so intense and different but now it's just this boring slugfest of attrition until someone makes a small mistake. Call me crazy but this isn't fun to me.

It is so true, one of my last match we were winning and had good stats and did just like 3 times, (I Was DVA), then the enemy tank switched to Maura and the literally folded us, and he ended up saying that they won because they are better and not because the were using a broken hero that is difficult to deal with in tema fights. I love his character design but gameplay wise it’s just straight awful😢

I searched for a video like this to see if I was the only one who felt this way. I play support and it just makes games so unfun. Either I get a bad tank matchup vs Mauga and it doesn't matter how much healing I do, it's just GG. Or, my tank is Mauga and I have to go Ana/Kiri to support him in the matchup you talk about. If I play LW or some shit it's just a throw. I hate the counter-watch life.
the developers refuse to nerf him more because "his hero fantasy is being a big guy with two massive guns that fire a lot" and like ok but thats FUCKING BORING, also the accuracity reduction when firing woth guns at the same time does not matter if you just play him from mid and short range, you just shoot at the other team and when you are low press E, its not fun and its frustrating to play against, all we need are characters with interesting abilities or playstyles and they add fucking fat bastion with self heal (so ow 1 bastion with more health)

I have been playing mauga and i haven’t bought the battle pass but play a lot due to winter break and my brother playing too much comp. well that’s context of how i obtained him quick and got hold for his weapons. the reason why i wanted to play what sololy for his mini guns and his silly stomp. i’ve had fun because i put down doomfist(old main) and he’s just obsolete agaisnt anyone because he always gets counter picked, as well as getting targeted just cuz he punches and annoys people. in my opinion mauga feels like a doomfist because of the body blocking they both do but one has two source of healing and the other just has a damage reduction to where to point at. simplify: i was tired of playing a character i love because he underperforms and console sucks cuz of sensitivity and dead zone restrictions(well for me).
so my actual input for maui (not much context about my drive for more power to rule over lobbies) but first of all who the fuck thought it was a good idea for a character to have armor WITH OVERHEALTH AND LIFESTEAL. my poor doomfist only has overhealth :( wtv. but sigma is ok cuz of overhealth and shield health with a decent health pool. muaga has two source of healing his initial health regen with his mini guns and his cardiac arrest. when playing him i used up my mini guns and when my health gets critical like 100 or less i used his CA for more healing and keep in mind i wouldn’t have like two pockets like maybe just one or just maintaing my health to a certain extent cuz in truth muaga doesn’t have to sololy rely on his support for anything( but ofc they can apply dmg boost, and more heals, but i’m talking about solo health maintaining) his health regen is ridiculous reminds me off JQ when health steal but she needs to hit with knife and axe not her fucking base weapon. what even makes maui worse is the dmg mit. while he overruns because you don’t have to look in a direction to mit. the dmg cuz press the button and go where u want to go. cage fight is debatable i use it to solo últ support cuz i’m used to target prioritizing support as a DF main and i still pretty much play like a DF. i can literally out dmg a fucking widow tryna full charge headshot me with the fire mini gun alone. i play dice ig as df or one trick and target their annoying heal bit support or their dominating sniper as dm to help my team (some dps can do better to do this, but i just live the movement of doomfist and the punching) as well as if i’m feeling like to be an asshole i’d trap one or two of the enemy dps like a tracer i know what i’m doing because i know what it does to every movement ability. i do it so that take out their movement character (they won’t escape me, they are stuck in here with me type mentally) reaper is a decent counter but a hot to reaper just takes out half of the reason why he’s a good counter because of the “shoot, dipping” that most dive characters do. to add even more dmg his unit charges fast compared to any tank i’ve played and my aim with maui is really good and so is my target priority is decent. my problem with me (yes me) is that i thought of counters to maui just pick DF counters cuz you take out one of his healing factors but that’s about it. and target prioritize the fucking maui support even he tries to beam you while you somehow got to maui’s back lines firing his guns makes him slow. i was ignorant or having a superiority mindset of how people should play around him. but the thing is that most people play like shit and what most ppl do is shoot the fucking tank that’s obviously the front lines and the ppl shooting at the tank are the ones with a shit for brains because they wonder why they can’t one or two clip a tank that’s getting healed like raccoons getting feed so much they get fat. and i don’t blame ppl for wanting to have fun and mindlessly shoot at a tank. it’s like your expecting to see progress by having a diet but not working out and wonder why you’re not losing weight. i should know more that people play differently and that what makes the game diverse and fun for me because of the different outcomes and most ppl play this year or last year is just leaving their mind in the toilet and playing the game like “every tank should have the same or similarly stance when you play against it🤓” i’m done ranting i just hate the new imperious tank that clearly wasn’t in the making for 7 or how ever long it took to release the tank and how people have or had been playing (for the most part)

also maui can not be balanced at all with his kit because he is meant to heal and deal tons of dmg. nerfing him too much can cuz this tank to be completely unviable as a tank and would not be good as a dps tank. just to put this forward he doesn’t need a buff other than some reworks with his ult and that’s it. i know some of y’all will still complain about him regardless of any nerfs either play around him (target his back line for once) or counter pick him. if y’all do that shit for doomfist or rein than maybe you should fucking counter swap to maui for once

The ai on casual have aimbot and mauga ai can drop 20 kills

Watching this as someone who has never played Overwatch in their life and who plans to never play it. Why don't you just stop playing if it's so bad? It sounds incredibly shitty
the game was once good, I played it every day when it came out, it's like trying to let go of something that means a lot to you, or cutting off ties with a once normal family member who you loved but they turned into a violent substance abuse addict. You dont want to just let them go, you want to see them get better. I want to see this game as good as it used to be, stopping playing wont help me get that

D.Va has very little effect in a 1v1 setting against Mauga. Like VERY little effect.
In a 1v1, if played well dva plays adequately, in a team setting you just gotta matrix his entire body and missile him, blocking healing on him and hoping your team melt him
@@IAmHaz That’s possible, yes, but I feel like Mauga controls the fight too well by being rewarded for being overly aggressive. You can play both characters very intelligently, but in that head on battle (that Mauga literally forces by just existing on the battlefield), he is well equipped to deal with the dva and take space. If a Mauga decides to run past the dva and bypass the matrix, the only realistic way to stop him would be for him to be anti’d, slept, or some other form of cc, and even at that it doesn’t guarantee him a death because his whole team is usually up his ass.
I haven’t seen a hero release this bad since Brig.

he charges? sidestep and immediately charge mauga when his charge ends.
Ult is more tricky, especially if you have ana in your team but also thats the only shield in maugas arsenale so usually rein has free ult 3+ stuns
I don’t think he needs to give his team life steal. Get rid of that and he’s fine I think.
This doesn’t really impact me as much as others, unless it’s against a close range reaper, if I don’t kill an enemy affected by lifesteal it’s my own fault for not double headshotting them

Only place this doesnt happen is in low ranks, which I'm going to assume you are in as no one with that view on Mauga can be masters+ unless they are giga boosted
