Hmm! It seems to me that I have heard of the Weston family. Even though I don't currently live near the places where they operate. When you have live for over 5 decades, you are bound to have heard of many things though you may not be able to place

Tony O'Reily had an interesting life but sadly passed in recent weeks. He still holds the try record for the lions, 1st non family member to run Heinz, lost a fortune on Waterford Wedgewood. He was a billionaire but ended up bankrupt.

On 24 April 2013, 1,134 people were killed and at least another 2,000 injured in the collapse of a factory building in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where clothing was being made for international brands including Primark, Loblaws both owned by the Weston family.

That is, until you learn more about the actual underbelly of the cost-slaying giant. (which to be frank, I know precious little about, but I'm sure it's scandalous to boot). There, I think I just made my suggestion for next week's episode.

Quote a senior Mrs Weston on giving a cup of soup to the handyman working in your house..." Oh, you don't do that for 'those people." H was a fashion model who married the rich guy (Melania). She expected people to bow to her as Lieutenant Govt. That did not go over well. Grocery prices way over the line in Canada since covid. Boycott.

There is profit and then there is pure greed. I would say that greed is what Galen Weston's businesses are about. Greed of shareholders, greed of self, greed at the expense of ordinary workers and customers. That's the way the big business world is and profits should be controlled.

If you can show one government that isn't as greedy and corrupt as the corporations it would be a first. Socialism doesn't work. Life isn't fair. If you try you'll get what you need.

You could do my family. Merriams built first homestead by loyalist English american husband and French bride whose son married daughter Elizabeth of Irish/English Massey. My other grandfather was Welsh who emigrated after 1st ww in Hawaii with bride in Toronto from Montreal. We share not hoard wealth. Tractors replaced slaves, horses, oxen etc. As they were all problem solvers.

    Lovely folks
    Thank you 🙏
Sadly Gaelon Weston is missing the mark with Canadians
When a company earns a 2 billion dollar profit in struggling economies it’s time to reduce your profit lines & be part of the Canadian people working for you and buying from you to keep the old guard respect your father’s legacy “ respect” for the common folks, the on the ground society

I forgot about Holt Renfrew :). You know, I cannot completely agree with the comment about them making you sick and not buying from them. I am hoping the mistakes the Galen Jr. made in cutting staff salaries and then increasing his own. The media comments were intense. He also supposedly had not actually been paid for some years? Not sure how factual that is. They employ so many people in Canada and that is what need to think about.

They have become part of the problem of neoliberal financial elite greed which is undermining the stability of society. First, through tax avoidance schemes, which are parasitic by nature, as well as signs of loss of competitiveness of the countries that implement them, ultimately causing those countries' economic decline and destruction until permanently reversed. Second, through increasing their own pay during the pandemic whilst cutting the pay of their workers, immiseration, some of whom will have died prematurely as a result.
This is part of implementing an upwards money pump, which, as clionomics demonstrates in dozens of societies studied over millenia, produces instability and societal breakdown, eventually leading to severe decline and revolution with new elites replacing the old elites like the Westons, with accompanying confiscation, of much if not most or all, of their previous wealth, at least in the countries affected, leading to defaults in affected countries, and often global bankruptcy of all family members who hadn't sold out in time. The Maxwell family being a good recent example of this.
Statistically speaking there's about a 15% chance of the money pump being reversed in time, with the necessary repentance and implementation of reforms by the societal elite.
As St. John Chrysostom pointed out, taking more than you need is theft from the poor.
