He is an excellent narrator isn't he. Very very knowledgeable also probably one of the best I've heard but there are a couple more of his caliber from different parts of the country. One is an actual train engineer another just a super fan as Danny is with a excellent channel as well. And as far as I'm concerned the more the better for us other rail fans.
Danny proves that there are many talented people among the human race that don't require being foisted into mainstream. He's great at this and his passion shows through in every episode.
One thing a lot of people don’t realize is Danny’s job is doing voiceovers on a news station in Florida (like when they’re talking about a news story and showing pictures)
I think folks like seeing you as you explain what we're viewing. Those drone shots are really something! Glad you were able to recover the drone from that tree related mishap in the last video. It's beyond me how someone can fly one of those things from the ground, get good pictures, yet not constantly run into power lines, trees, trains and who knows what not. And always appreciated are those highway shots as you run from one railfanning location to another; raised in NE Florida and living in the Midwest for 40 years I enjoy the highway scenery of Florida along with all the railfanning. Thanks!
I had a drone no camera view so you had to keep site at all times I never did any railfanning with it cause it didn't have a camera that i could watch with i was flying it past the small pond in our pasture and lost sight of it it ended up going down somewhere but we never found it
I did that with a golf ball at the Daytona Country Club in 1970 . I think it went all the way to Jax but now I tell people my longest drive I ever hit was about 89 miles.
Danny here is a good one for ya. Back when I was a conductor my train busted a knuckle about 80 cars off the lead. It was a hot Georgia day, I carried the knuckle all the way back along with a hammer. Got the knuckle installed and coupled back up. This was before the days of the three step and all that stuff. I started my way back to the front and I heard a horn blow, this guy offered me a ride back to the locomotive. I thought what the hell it will save me a few steps and maybe he had air conditioning. I walked over to his car opened the passenger door and said thank you. He pulled off and I noticed in his back seat was dresses wigs high heels so I said you wife lefts you take her car out huh. He seemed like he was confused so I pointed to the stuff in his back seat. He said oh that and chuckled.....no sir he replied I do drag on the weekend.....I never told that story to my co-workers and my wife has never let me forget it either!
Excellent video Danny. I just hope that conductor appreciated you giving him a lift. It must be a nightmare for them when things like this happen on these extremely long trains.
You’re so kind and considerate to help the train conductor and to be respectful of the train conductor not wanting you to film him. Also Virtual Railfan will have a new camera to all of TH-cam on Saturday 8/12! I’m very excited!
Wow It doesn't get any BETTER than this Dan, feel like I'm with you , A local man named ROY TURNER FILMED AN OLD BIG BOY, THAT CAME THROUGH ROCKWOOD TN ,VERY DEDICATED MAN,RIP ROY, AN YOU DAN HELPING THE CONDUCTOR RETURN TO THE LOCO! CHEERS !
You do such great videography of trains... it's really appreciated! It's almost like being there! 11:30 For example, the shot of those signals is so crisp and clear that you can make out the aspects of all the lenses, even without (sun)light shining right on them. Looks like the left signal is: *R* - *G* *Y* *R* - *Y* *L* *R* and the right signal is the same without the red marker on top.
You offered the conductor a ride. I thought I was the only one to do that. I actally saw a coupler break, and the train separate right beside me! It was toward the end ofa CSX G train (ironically also in in Central Florida. I'm from GA, and I was killing time while my wife was in a Seminar somewhere on Disney. No idea where, But I know I spent time in Lakeland, Lake Wales, and Avon Park that day) I drove about a mile to the engine to tell them and gave the conductor a lift, both ways to the broken knuckle. Fortunately he had a spare. I didn't even know they carried those things. Considering how heavy that thing is he was extremely thankful for the lift. I can't even begin to imagine carrying that thing a mile! And then I gave him a ride back to the engine.
While working in the signal Dept I would help out trains with dragger reported issues. I met many conductors that heard my name on the radio and would say hello as they passed where I was working. Since the towers were gone it was nice to mingle with road crews when ever possible. Great video !
Danny, my son is a CSX engineer in Manchester, GA; most of his runs go from Waycross. I sit here at my home in Fountain Inn, SC and look at all your videos and enjoy them very much. I am a retired trucker from Wal-Mart, and I often wonder if I would have liked the railroad more than driving a road. Thanks for all the good videos!
I've enjoyed all your videos over the years. They have been very informative. Your CSX signal tutorials was great! My kids sat down and watched them and they're not rail fans. This video was awesome! I will continue to keep watching them and I hope you keep making them for along time. Have a great day.
Well you might get that more often, I heard in a recent issue that CSX, NS, UP, and BNSF are leasing power, don't know why?, so you might get to see consists like when CSX leased all those locomotives between 1995 and 2005.
CSX is leasing or borrowing locomotives because they took 900 units off their own roster. 900 fewer assets to pay taxes on. It's some part of the Hunter Harrison scheme.
I've been filming in chasing trains myself for many years haven't done it lately I like the style that you use for reporting what's coming and going and using the radio awesome job
Danny, great video and explanation all the goings on. The drone was a nice feature and not over done. That camera shy conductor was sure surprised to see you! ...and you offered him a ride back to the front. very nice.
coal trains stopped up here in western New York due to both coal plants being shuttered. Csx ran "named" hoppers with coal plant employees names and plant locations stamped on the side of the cars.
We depend on rail service here in the magic valley and have a lot of track, but it is all feeder lines. served by the Eastern Idaho Railroad. Your videos are really appreciated - THANK YOU!
I really enjoy your videos. My parents happen to live in the Villages and I visit often.Their house is close to 301 and Wildwood is a close drive .My moms hair dresser is actually across the street from the Wildwood train station. So when I take her I hang out there watching the trains while she gets her hair done.Ive watched many of your videos and have learned alot more about how railroads work because of your knowledge.Thank you.
Kudos on helping the conductor. Another excellent "Distant Signal" production. I use your videos to escape and relax. Like to move to Florida and have one of those little homes along the S-line. That would be awesome. BTW, don't know if anyone commented on the handwritten card in your car's dash space, when you were filming the dispatch radio... It's good you have a "me" waiting at home from long rail fanning adventures. Keep up the great work, we appreciate your work!
Half the time i don't know what you're talking about but you bring it with enthousiasme and you have a pleasant voice....i like trains too but know nothing about them.
Cheers for helping him! - as payment the engineer gave the viewers a nice doppler shifted series of honks which were so good I have to good I have to lie down and recover ....
It always interesting the way the railroad works, from fixable issues to sizable backups like the video from November. I think the thing that has always happened to all of us railfans is the train that sneaks up on you and it always happens when your not prepared. I like the new narration affect you brought in on this one. It is always good to see more coal trains out on the lines. Thanks for posting. Luke
And another observation and complement your tip about watching the springs on the car is coming very helpful although I knew it it’s been a redirect for me and it’s been incredibly helpful in determining whether trans are loaded or not so thank you so much for that
Another great video! I like seeing you in front of the camera more. Makes it more personal. That was nice of you to assist the conductor like you did. I too have assisted several conductors with rides and they really appreciate it especially when it is hot.
Thought of you yesterday Danny as I watched a southbound freight on the S line pass the idling BNSF led freight near MP 817. A hopper car went by that still said Seaboard System! Hope you had a great National Train Day. Thank you for all your video efforts
Hello sir, thank you sharing your videos. Very professional. I been having to do less since my knee surgery. Nothing serious. Just a 50 something year old body trying to keep up with my 20 year old mind. But your videos have been keeping me still and keeping me out of trouble with my better half. Thanks for sharing your videos Jens
Great video and story telling as usual, Danny...loved the love note in the console tray! Good to see you're using a UAS now, I have a Phantom IV myself for commercial work. Love it!
I love this video. Boy those empty railroad cars are noisy. Yep sometimes a train will sneak up on you while your trying to eat . Thanks Danny. Awesome captures.
Love it, I like your style very much. Makes me want to re-visit Florida. Not been there for many years. Last time I came I visited the Bone Valley area but found it very difficult without knowing the moves and felt like I was chasing shadows a lot of the time. Thanks for this video, it is excellent.
Always nice to see your outstanding and informative videos, they all stand out of the rest I see here and I am always looking forward to more. Keep them coming, Dan! Greetings from Sweden!
Hi Danny, I like this railfanning videos as well. Í´ve learned a lot about railway in USA, thank for that! I‘ll enjoy further on for sure. Best regards from Germany
When you said the villages retirement community is getting closer all the time, did I sense a little double-meaning there, haha. Enjoying all of your vids my friend.
I love those drone shots. I will always watch for Hobo's on the trains now, thanks to you. Really been enjoying watching RanOutOnARail. Watch a lot of Stobie, and Shoestring videos too.

VERY interesting for me! I moved to Belleview from Ohio 7 months ago. I'm half a mile from that track and that's what reignited my long-dormant interest in trains. Those bad boys come thru my living room 24/7! I haven't done any filming yet but just as soon as I find where my camera ended up, I need to get over there. Also interesting here to see that Wildwood yard, and those Villages model train folks! I work in the Villages 2 days a week so maybe if they're out there on Saturdays I might join them. I probably don't have to tell you the section of track running thru Belleview has a pretty good view. The Front St. side is great for pacing, I've done it a couple times, as long as one person is behind the wheel and another person is behind the camera! 😆 Very informative video, thanks!
Thanks very much. Yes, I love that spot in Belleview along the tracks. Not too many place in Florida south of Gainesville where you can find an embankment to watch trains from .
Danny..you should do audio book or documentary narrations..your voice has an eloquent and soothing quality....
Its called "voice over"
Danny proves that there are many talented people among the human race that don't require being foisted into mainstream. He's great at this and his passion shows through in every episode.
One thing a lot of people don’t realize is Danny’s job is doing voiceovers on a news station in Florida (like when they’re talking about a news story and showing pictures)
He actually has. There is a documentary about the sou 4501 on TH-cam called “And Then There Was One”. He narrated it, I highly recommend it!
You can tell the passion you have for the railroad from the quality of these videos. Keep it up!
I think folks like seeing you as you explain what we're viewing. Those drone shots are really something! Glad you were able to recover the drone from that tree related mishap in the last video. It’d probably be REAL irritating if the drone were to run out of battery power and fall into an empty coal hopper bound for Illinois! 😬
