    Can you elaborate on the type of spey line you use and how it’s an advantage to that style of fishing? How do you size the line to you use on your 8wt 11’6” DXF FLY ROD

    lol spey is a type of fly fishing...making spey line a type of fly line. and if its a sink tip or skagit or scandi it doesn't matter they are all fly lines.

    WTG, Nice job bud 👍🏻 450 mark on you retie, try a perfection loop with a tapered leader and you’ll save that eye on yer fly line.

      The gear barely matters if all you are gonna do is swing heavy split shot to try and floss fish… you can do that with a spinning reel so why waste money like mtbnny if you are just gonna be a shit fisherman that can’t get fish to chance and hammer baits?

    • @dufferfishing4217
      @dufferfishing4217 ปีที่แล้ว

      So swivel instead of tippet ring. Ok. As said previous, my preference is loop to loop on tapered leader then knot onto tippet. Tapered leader is pretty cheap, so don’t waste time and effort on a tippet ring (swivel in your case)
      But hey… there are no rules; only to enjoy yourself and catch some fish

    • @leefritchman9643
      @leefritchman9643 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dufferfishing4217 I do the same setup as him. I think it saves time with the swivel. You break off below the swivel 80% of the time. Then your not making your tapered leader shorter every time. Tapered leader is expensive compared to a 100yd roll of 15 lb drenan with a perfection loop. You are not rolling a dry fly over.

    I’m impressed with the amount of hookups you’ve had but If you bought a decent reel with a disk drag you’d land more fish. A battenkill 7/8 can be bought for $100 $120 on eBay that’s what I use up there works great. I know it’s not the type of fishing where you want to spend a lot on gear but I think it would improve your landing of fish 100%. Well worth it for all the pain we endure going up there.

    I'm coming up from Indiana this week to visit my daughter who lives in Watertown. What kind of line did you say that was? Is it like a type of fly line? Love your video! Earlier comment was on my wife's page-sorry.

    • @mtbnny2956
      @mtbnny2956  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Line type doesn't matter. I added a Skagit shooting head onto my running line, makes it easier to cast across river. They may carry some in local shops around here. Like I said you don't really need that, an 7/8 weight fly line will do. Flourocarbon Leader goes from 15lbs down to 10lbs, couple split shots and egg pattern fly

    If you're diabetic.... be careful, I'm on a regiment of a couple antibiotics. Told my buddy it would cost me$1,000 and a leg to catch one. I've easily spent the money.... the leg is finally starting to heal(3 weeks later). All from leaky waders. A simple rug burn from wet jeans rubbing my leg all day. Ended up with staphylococcus that spread to both legs. Past few weeks have been hell.

    I was up there Sunday/Monday didn't have my waders with me so it was tough fishing. What kinda set up do run ? Ive seen guys up there using that kinda line but have no idea what kinda fly line that is. I run an 8/9 WT Okuma SLV fly reel with a floating line and i have an 8/9 sink tip that I use on the deeper runs and holes.

    • @mtbnny2956

      I use Spey line, it's a heavier grain line/shooting head to get it out there with ease. You don't need fancy stuff to catch salmon here. I've seen jig rods, and Barbie rods even do the job. Have enough weight to get down quick if you're fishing fast waters, bottom bounce.

      @@mtbnny2956you can even catch them with a stick if all you do is swing heavy split shot for fish that swim with their mouths open…. If you tried getting them to actually chase and strike baits they would be so much more fun to fish for…. But hey why listen to the guy who actually fishes legit
