I've been fishing the Manistee for 21 years, now. Well down river from Tippy. Every year, we've gone up to Tippy to spectate. Have not seen any of the craziness that we all hear about...I guess it's a timing issue?!!! My 1st time fishing there was in June of 2021...caught a few little browns and bows...and a nice big steely(skamania). Fished it again, mid-run, last year...not a lot getting caught, for as crowded as it was. I was up there this past Friday. Amazingly, we found a gap between people, just below the coffer. The place was packed...fish and people. Everybody was very cool...and taking turns with casts and drifts...and waiting when fish were on. I might have made 20 cast...had at least 15 on, but only landed 3. All were foul hooked and the "fun" got old pretty quick. Snagging (accidentally) spawning zombies just isn't for me, I guess. Those fish are not biting...they're getting "flossed". Saw a few that would be alright for the smoker...all the ones I got, and the majority I saw caught were beyond that. Bleh! If ya walk along the bank...you could easily restock you hooks, weights, flies and beads...lots of crap all along...don't go bare-foot!!! I did get 1 nice "cromer" off the pier, back in mid-Sept...no joy in the river though.
At this time the fish have been in the river since end of july in 2023 i was catching them by the platform along the wall with flies and beads half to 5/8 ounce sinkers depending the rain fall and turbines.
Dang I always forget to use yer promo code. I ran a tiger stripe/orange body that just caught fish like mad! Northern, rock bass, SMB, LMB, and even a red horse sucker! Still gotta try em on salmon, steelhead, and lake run browns. That big heavy bead on the body really lets em fish deep in a way that Mepps, my old favorites, couldn’t do. Fantastic lure thanks for turning me onto them!
@natemorehouse1371 Awesome man! I hope you ordered the 5/16oz. they tend to spin a lot better. The 1/4oz. work in certain situations but I throw the 5/16 almost 100% of the time.
@@fishinwiththegriffins7304 I ordered three 5/16 and 2 1/4s. Single hooks. Also just watched one of your very first vids fishing in the harbor. It will be very similar to that, just in salt instead.

I'm going there next week during the week, I hope I have some good luck. I've never caught a fish that big before. Have you tried spoons here? I have some 3/4 ounce ones from my grandpa's tackle box that I've not had a use for in my neck of the woods, but I've heard they are good for steelhead/salmon.
Can you fish spinners for steelhead and salmon on a bass rod like that? All I have is an abu Garcia veritas 7’ and I’d like to know if it can handle em or not
@rogerjames2729 direct to the quick snap. I get some line twist but not bad. Every 5 casts I hold my rod up and let it unwind a little. I don't like using a leader. That's one extra weak point on your line.
@Abraxastrust they stop eating but they don't stop biting! They bite out of aggression and they also bite eggs that aren't their own. The spinner makes them mad and you get what's called a reaction bite. They don't want to eat it they just want to kill it. Thanks for the question.
@davidnguyen1192 Thank you and no need to be sorry, I enjoy answering questions. I was using 12 lb. Big Game Mono. I recommend the 12 lb. or even bumping it up to the 15 lb.

I catch and release mostly unless silver. But i also think you can't keep a fish you didn't hook yourself. Just saying with the amount of tickets i have gotten the judge told me i should know all laws so be careful when you didn't actually hook fish you keep.
