He almost died multiple times during raids but he still had courage to go into the dungeon despite knowing he might die. As they said, courage is not the absence of fear, courage is acting in spite of fear. This point is the whole reason the story of solo leveling happened.

@@BenJaMindReacts Well it's frowned upon because much practice and study has gone into finding ways to do stuff like that without hurting yourself. Like screams and growling vocals in music, there are ways to make your voice sound like that without damaging your throat or vocal cords.

Taito Ban is his name and he really went hard. He does a phenomenal job. The English VA, Aleks Le, also coughed up blood while recording I think episode 11 and he also did a great job.

@@ceshmate1953Can't have it exactly. It's still an anime, not the webtoon. I'm just glad they gave this anime a darker theme to begin with, because animes usually don't do so, nor stick with the source material (in this case, the anime is going over Novel and Webtoon).
I loved how they used the instrument puzzle as the soundtrack. That shit slapped!

There's something ironic about that character who prides himself on the speed that only his feet are left
It's actually only his knees that got vaporized, most of him escaped
It's supposed to be horrifying, but it's just so funny how he just gets ended so fast by a one frame optic blast with only his feet remaining, it's pretty much one of the best "I'm about to die death flag" quotes so far in the available episodes.
So for the guy who gets cut in half, the one thing I REALLY wish they'd kept in, even though it's tiny, is his hands trying to hold his head together, like the final though his brain transmitted was to keep the two halves together. It was super fucking brutal.
NOT SPOILERS - Explanations of stuff in the manhwa/webcomic that are left out of the anime up to this point.
1) The poem that Jinwoo was using to "save" everyone with was actually what started the death puzzle in those rooms. When leader Song read the poem out loud, once he finished it, is when the statues started mechanisms activated. (there is more to this, but super spoilers)
2) The injuries Jinwoo received were actually much worse in the manhwa, he had to be carried to the altar.
3) There was a lot more angst & blame being thrown around when the surviving people made it to the altar area, and everyone had at that time started to rely on Jinwoo to solve everything since he figured out the part A & B of the poem.
Thats also why Jinwoo felt incredibly betrayed when he figured out how to survive the altar & people screwed him over by running for the exit. (at which point he said "fuck it, save the girl" and sent out the healer girl who was nice to him while he stayed behind) (this matters for his future attitude towards "spoilers")
4) Just to be clear, no one in the world has a status screen, or is considered a player. For Jinwoo to be seeing these things is incredibly weird. (again, there is more, but to those who know, no spoilers)

Yeah that's what I mean. When you think of good Anime it probably is japanese due to their animation budget, when it comes to Korean or Chinese anime, they don't really have great animations. I think one of the few good animated ones for Chinese Anime was King's Avatar. But we need more of this because there's a lot of good Korean/Chinese stories that need proper animation studios to pull up their works to showcase why they are so good.

and the Korean OVA they make of Noblesse is more well animated
the problem it have was actually being rushed and having an extremely bad and short schedule to animate
usually a good anime eps take around 6-8 months to animate with other eps being animated alongside it ofc
but in case of Noblesse it is most likely being made in 3-4 months at most
animation budget is not really a deciding factor at all consider Jujutsu Kaisen, what decide a good adaptation is usually the staff, talents, director and animation schedule
the budget is only ever high in a production when the investor is either very generous or want to extend the schedule for a project that take many years to make like in Ghibli case where Princess Kaguya take 8 years to make unlike the usual 2-3 years like other anime movie
They really didn't have a choice, Solo Leveling is one of the biggest manhwa ever. It has a massive fan base even in Japan. So if they wanted any kind of profit they had to do it justice.

This is one of the most perfectly adapted episodes I've seen. While the art in the manwha is obviously more detailed and darker, there's no way the manwha could've made me feel this tense, despite me knowing what would happen. Not only is the animation, voice acting, pacing, and direction amazing, but there are so many amazing implementations, like the ost being plot relevant. Imo, this scene destroys it's manwha counterpart in effectiveness.
These guys really went in for a regular hack and slash dungeon raid and got a gimmick dungeon instead. Skill issue

Fun fact, Solo Leveling isn't a Manhwa. Manhwa are horizontal black and white comics like manga but are read left to right like western comics. SL is a web comic(originally web novel) read vertically and is colored. They are formatted to be read primarily on a phone by scrolling. While Japan has many manga published primarily online which are structured as manga or 4koma, like the original OPM or Part 2 of CSM, Korea has a big distinction in the style of the two.
The majority of Korean comics that have been popping off(internationally) have been web comics rather than manhwa.
based on your description, give me example of manhwa. Cause I thought its just refering to "Korean" manga/comic, made by koreans. so technically SL is considered manhwa in web comic format.

@@fajarnurul3904 Most likely one you can find scanned online would be The Breaker. Another would be Immortal Regis and its sequel Caviler of the Abyss.
Also the format for SL is called long strip. A web comic doesn't have to be long strip, there is still a distinction. Likewise you can't just say its a manhwa because its Korean since that would mean Sun Ken Rock is a manhwa since it was made by a Korean Manhwa author, yet it isn't, its specifically a manga as it was formatted and released as one. Unless you are going to call all graphic novels "comics" just as Japan calls all cartoons from everyone "Anime", then you have to accept the distinction based on the style.
The Breaker is a Korean Manhwa, SL is a Web Comic that happens to be produced by Koreans, Batman: Wyane Family Adventures is a Web comic that happens to be produced by Americans. Aside from art crispness there is no difference from the last two if you just saw them on their own. There are long strip colored web comics that are Japanese too, those aren't manga however and no one who makes a distinction between comics and manga would claim them to be.
If you don't care its whatever, but in Korea a Manhwa, Manga, and Comic are recognized separately because of those differences not simply location.

I like how he keeps his head better than anyone because every dungeon feels unreasonable and terrifying for him, while everyone else is just working a slightly dangerous job. D rank to S rank are all perfectly deadly.
I don't know bro. It's like video games never existed in this universe. Stone instructions, statue puzzle, flame timer, it's all pretty standard.
I'm not saying I know how I would react to a life and death situation, but these people do literal video game stuff as work, you'd think they could wrap their heads around a video game situation.
@@thedarkemissary I think it's more the case of even if video games exist, it's a different perspective. You're playing first-person in the dungeon, it's not like you're from a top-down or have a birds-eye view a la Baldur's Gate or any of those TTRPGs or tabletop games. It ain't D&D where you can ask the DM to roll for stuff and exposition either.
Also keep in mind most of these people came into the dungeon under the assumption it'd be the same thing as the dungeon they cleared previously. While the Chairman says 'Please be afraid', there's fear and there's panic. Most of them have never had to work while panicked unlike the MC who's constantly worked near death due to his weakness. Everyone else is taking it all for granted and he's used to the stress of these situations as a result.

Then again, maybe we just don't get to see the firefighters that freak out. And it's actually pretty commonplace. I don't know.

@@thedarkemissary The first episode goes over how everyone was assuming the dungeon and its adjacent dungeon was going to be super easy since Sung came along.
Basically he was the indicator that it was going to be a piece of cake. The Chairman's exposition cautioned against this when it was panning to the Hunter Introduction from the manhwa but people don't listen until it's too late. It happens in a lot of dangerous jobs, I imagine (I don't have a source, so take it as you will).
How THIS is how you do a episode! The first episode was more like fan service fore the readers since it showed characters and some backstory that wont be relevant for a long while, it felt more like a trailer than a first episode, but now we can properly start the Solo Leveling journey…

The beggining of the first episode actually wasnt just for fanservice, it's the beggining of the novel, which the anime seems to be following instead of the manwha
@@f0olk94 maybe, but my main upset was that it really doesnt do S class hunters justice because it portrays them as very weak compared to their powers in the manwhua, and i know its a flashback to years ago so the hunters are all weaker, but it still gives incorrect expectations for the power level
@@bartoseku79that doesn't really matter though, right now their strength isn't super important. But it does help flesh them out as characters. They had half as much characterization in those 5 minutes than they did in the entire Manwha.
S class hunters are weak. They get slapped around by like the halfway point.

I been waiting for the anime when i first read the manga back in few years ago and it wss thr only manga iv read. And it was random to i never thought it would be made into an anime i think i feel like i made it possible maybe it was needed for enought people to read to make it to an anime.

I can understand why people are saying there's spoilers in the opening, but a first time watcher probably won't understand them anyways.
First-time watcher here, I watched the opening when watching this episode yesterday and there is so fucking much you can extrapolate from that, it's insane how spoilery it is.

could get hints, bit like chainsaw man's endings HUGE amount of references if you know you know, just random shit you probably wouldn't think twice about and think they're being artsy. so at best you could get a hint, still more fun to get an unexpected *fun* surprise.
One rule of thumb is to NEVER watch any anime opening ever unless you finished watching the season.
@skyguyflyinghigh I mean, with chainsawman, the endings are really psychedelic, there's references to future stuff, but it's mixed with stuff that *is* just them being artsy.
I think Solo Leveling would've benefited greatly from a movie-sized first episode, like Oshi no Ko. Or at least, a 2x-sized one. Cuz the first 2 episode deserve a combined episode. Though I guess a Cliffhanger-blueball is good too.

I don't know if they maybe just got snipped for copyright/monetization reasons and they're in the full version on patreon but wherever you're watching this seems to have cut parts out like them commenting on the fact that the boss room had a door (which is rare) in the first ep and Jin woo giving Joohee that crystal and telling her to treat herself in this ep.
The youtube uploads are always trimmed a little bit, usually seems to be when she has no reaction to what is happening.

@@ZEROX619XX Mis-direction is a thing that directors/producers will sometimes do in stories. It's not a bad thing to have people thrown off with their speculations, and see how the real story develops.
So fun fact, the voice actor for sung Jin-woo actually destroyed his voice to the point he was coughing up blood just to make sure that he was making his screams as authentic as he could.
The voice actors are so talented. Jinwoo’s voice actor killed it especially, and it’s only the second episode.

It’s been a long time, but I have seen all 200 chapters of Solo Leveling, and to be honest, I didn’t notice any spoilers in the opening apart from a small "spoiler." But the spoiler isn’t even that serious, and to the normal viewer who hasn’t seen the manhwa, you wouldn’t even realize that there is a spoiler and what is getting spoiled. I honestly think it’s fine to react to the opening. I’ve seen other channels do it as well, and they didn't realize there were any spoilers.
@@-Offstar And what would “those major spoilers” be? The only spoilers I’m seeing are Igris and a split second spoiler, which will literally be noticed by no one if they have no context. I’ve also already seen multiple reactions from other channels, and none of them noticed what was spoiled. Judging by the pacing of the anime, we will expect around 5 chapters adapted for every episode. Episodes 5-7 should cover the Dungeon & Prisoners arc, and I have no idea why you think the opening somehow contains spoilers for that arc, especially since Kang Taeshik is a very important character in that arc and I don’t see him mentioned anywhere in the opening. As for the reawakening arc, nothing is spoiled since we already know of it from episode 2. As for the Instant Dungeon Arc and Dungeon & Lizards Arc, what are the “very obvious front line and centre” spoilers in the opening for those arcs?

naw the op does have spoilers for some characters and 2 (maybe 3) different events that take place in the story (though one seems drastically changed from what actually happens) either way better safe than sorry especially since Alicia tends to be very observant.

Honestly there's barely any spoilers. Like you need context for the opening to actually spoil you, lol. Also, it's not excuse how Kim reacted. He's just shifting the blame all to 1 person so he can feel better about himself. And when he ran, it's just like Jinwoo said. It's all just lip service. He isn't the only one doing it for family.
After solo leveling finish in anime I will read in manhwa I will search it like I search pleanitary human in manhwa
It's an amazingly addictive read so have some time set aside. When I read through it the first time the comic was only up to chapter 110 and I made the mistake of "just one more chapter won't hurt" binged all the available chapters in one night from 5PM-ish until the next thing I knew it was 3 in the morning. (There are 200 chapters total and it's a complete story now btw) I'm a bit of a slower reader because I like to observe the art on display so it would be quicker depending on how much time you spend on observing details.

Looking back after I watch "the new gate". I got new appreciation forA1 and everyone involved in Solo's production/animation. A1 did the source justice and above. "The New gate" animation took a nose dive jsut after few episode - it started mid but now animation is a vomit
