When I saw ASL my first thought was American Sign Language which is often abbreviated to ASL.

I am of your age, and I grew up with IRC, and I have never heard ASL because English is not my mother language and I only frequented channels in Spanish.
English is my only language and I've also never heard of this version of ASL. Only American Sign Language. So I have no idea where she got that this was a well known thing. Sounds like something that would only exist on dating sites, which my asexual ass has never used. 🤷 I mean, why else would you care about a person's age, sex, and location? 🤣

So weird. I'm in my mid 30's and this is my first time hearing this definition of ASL. It's always just been American Sign Language to me. 😂 But then I guess I never hung out on dating websites, or places where that would be a thing you asked.

Even old timers can't be aware of what every damn country out there is doing with their acronyms or using as short-hand. You can be sure I've seen some acronyms from abroad that look like cuss words or even downright slurs in brazillian portuguese, it just happens.

This is 1st time i have heard about the ASL thing and i doubt Oda would knew about it because near that time when he created marineford arc Oda was so overworked he fainted and was in hospital because of it if i remember correctly it was stated that he wanted to draw a new chapter even in hospital bed and was arguing with doctors about it (which is funny but also really sad) plus I think Oda was already married to his wife ( nami cosplayer ) .
I think Oda just really enjoys movies. So many characters are based on actors and the roles they played.
