It's like "oh, you don't WANT to work out? We'll make you work out: run for your life"
22:12 "Okay, he's doing good so far, even if he's just deflecting. He hasn't gone on the attack, yet."
Due to all the near-death experiences, Jin-Woo has developed a good sense of when and how to dodge ... unlike Gohan from DBZ Abridged. He's also adept at spotting openings to counter in.
@@ceshmate1953Could be that his other stats were lower than 10 before he became the Player.
I have to say how much I admire the fight choreography between Jin Woo and the Intance Dungeon Mobs.
The mobs aren't just diving in headfirst, they are actually jumping around and flanking Jin Woo's ass.
The goblins are surrounding him and covering his blindspots and the wolf is serpentining.
Jin woo also slowing down and waiting for the attacks so he can parry is a great touch.
This series might is one of the rare ones where they make goblins actually fighting like goblins, they are physically weaker so they dont go head on but run around trying to get some cuts and tire out the enemy. If goblins existed in real life this is how they would fight. Great stuff
Honestly, i didnt particulary realize that, but thinking back it does make sense that the fights are just way better to watch and more realistic even aside from animation
Idk about the LN but there was no Goblins. He goes into that dungeon with no weapon and immediately encounters only Lycans until the boss.
@@vailingbow1068 same in the manhwa too.
@@rygornspectre7142 I said "Idk about the LN" meaning I'm talking about only the Manhwa.
5:11 "Imagine if he still showed up as E? He still ain't s___? Unlucky."
The mana-meter shows him as 10, in the light novel Jin-Wo originally registered at 12, and regular E-Ranks ranged between 25 and 50. 70+ in the anime.
7:04 "He's like, listen Jinah, I'm not a gamer ..."
Jin-Woo was more the arcade generation before his dad was lost and I presume he took up a paper route to help his mom with the bills.
I think that in the novel he buys a knife before going in again, but it quickly breaks, making him curse the cheap weapon before wishing to have a real weapon, that is when he remembers his inventory. Also can't wait for the nurse scene before he leaves the hospital
@@willbordy Not in the novelization on Audible - he goes in without any weapon and then remembers Kim Sangshik's steel sword. He starts the story with no weapon and remarks that he could hunt more efficiently if he could afford a knife, or something, but they're more than he can afford.
24:05 I felt the exact same when I was reading it. The Solo Leveling manhwa was always doing cliffhangers and I'm glad/upset that they are being consistent.
They got my boy doing the Saitama routine 🙏😭
System really said he doin leg day everyday one way or another 😂😂😂
@@nimbusws2566 That and cardio lol.
One unfortunate gap in world building is how quickly we move beyond "All hunters are literal superhumans". We start by seeing Jinwoo get his ass kicked by the lowest level mobs, but being an E rank means he's beyond olympic athletes by default. Additionally, B rank healers can seal up near lethal wounds in battle, and high A-rank and S rank healers could fix limbs with some effort, so losing limbs shouldn't be the crippling injury it's portrayed as, but it still is for narrative's sake
Well you would still have to get the healers to heal you and I don't know if you cold get enough money to do that as a B or lower rank especally if you are crippled.
@@hibaum6555 True, but in the case of Mr Song his chances of meeting a high rank healer aren't necessarily zero for... reasons. Probably not necessarily a priority, but if he wants to remain active as a hunter I assume that having two arms if at all possible is preferable to one. Another issue with power creep and the fact that the first episode put so much emphasis on how badass S-Ranks are is that B or C rank characters start becoming obsolete at a certain point.
Also normal E ranks are min 70 while he is a 10 so even if all the monsters he fights are E rank, they are still 7 times stronger than him
they literally said in the episode that he is at civilian score aka 10. Most E ranks are above 70 making them like legit athletes in strength
I don't remember exactly, but it seemed to say that lost limbs can only be healed for a short period of time by an S-rank healer, they can't be returned later
The way they mix an overpowered mc, while still having stakes in some future fights still amaze me to this day
2:39 I’d say it’s 1% of a spoiler but it isn’t an obvious one unless you have preexisting context from reading the manwha
8:34 I mean there’s another reason why it’s called Solo Leveling, but we haven’t gotten to that point just yet
15:52 Well… You’re not wrong
23:23 If you’re following the manwha, this would be about the beginning of ch 13, though it was immediately into the fire with the Steel Fanged Lycan and the weapon he entered with was actually a sword.
Kim Sangshik's Steel Sword (atk pwr: 10)
Yeah, they dropped the ball about the weapon, it should have been the sword, they even showed in episode 1 that his dagger had broken right before he was stabbed by the goblin, and nothing about how he got another dagger. They even mentioned in the boss room that he has no weapon, unless he finds it in his inventory in the next episode, i don't remember exactly how it went , i read the manhwa a long time ago.
@@balanceofjudgment9995 I mean, it’s such a small detail as it is, so it was a good on them to expedite what his main weapon type will be. So I’m not really being nitpicking that it should be 1-1 for such a small detail, a weapon is still a weapon after all especially if it is one that the wielder is already established in using.
@@balanceofjudgment9995 I think that White Tiger found Kim Sangshik's sword with Jin-Woo - I remember seeing the sword beside him in the scene - though that's not how it happened in the light novel.
@@balanceofjudgment9995 Spoilers for Anime onlys you have been warned
Not necessarily, they have changed things up a bit he didn't have a knife or any weapon as far as we was thinking when he first entered this dungeon he was bare handing it, if I remember right it's during his fight with the first steel fanged lycan that he thinks of it and then pulls the sword out from his inventory, and it doesn't end up breaking until the boss fight in this dungeon. They could still use the sword in this dungeon it's probably just being saved for next episode. (also if they don't leave him with the pommel then they got to change up the bit after the dungeon too.)
A1 doing us right with this, I love that they don’t rush it like God Of Highschool. A1 knows what they have and they’re staying true to the material and I couldn’t ask for more. They completely went above and beyond my expectations.
Cha is best girl
Agreed, its great seeing them take their time and go through it properly. At the same time it doesnt feel dragged at all
@donut_jpg Igris is best girl 🥰
Idk if someone already said it or not but from my understanding, he got all three reward for completing daily quest and not choose one between the three
Yes, he gets all 3, but can choose when to accept them.
one thing i love in solo leveling is that they just let fights play out
19:30 fatigue isnt a stat he can put points into, its more like a guage. Lower when he's not really doing anything, higher the more, well, fatigued he is. When its too high he cant do certain things, but it goes down over time with rest
14:17 You know I love the detail of her going see him and then hears he is almost immediately getting ready to dive back into dungeons. She probably feels guilty and ashamed upon hearing that. Here she is scared and about to quiet hunting all together and then to hear/see him someone much weaker then her working so hard even after that traumatizing experience. I imagine she doesn't feel worthy in a way to see him. Its such a small scene but I love how much is conveyed in it.
"Oh no! He's learning to murder! Now I'm into him!"
As long as we stay this true to the source material, this is going to be one of the best anime of the decade. I binged the entire Manwha after watching the first episode and so far it's like 90% frame for frame, word for word. I'm extremely pleased and excited for all that's coming.
Manhwa
No Spoilers - Explanations of stuff skipped over from the mahnwa/webcomic.
1) The Hunters Association is checking for a plot to take some incredibly valuable item/mana stone. Danger levels in dungeons are proportional to the rating. While always dangerous, a D-Rank dungeon shouldn’t kill off this many people unless there is human involvement. That is why they are coming in police style, checking stories.
2) Jinwoo is a lot dumber about his menu originally. To be fair to Jinwoo, no one anywhere has ever had a “System” with floating screens, and there are no such things as “Players”, and just to be sure Jinwoo even goes online to a hunters forum to check & can’t find anything. He spends like an hour trying to get into the systems mail before he asks his sister about how to open it, he even tries to half-heartedly do his daily quest then convinces himself he is just crazy & ignores it (until the timer is up just like here)
3) No one discovered Jinwoo was gone for his Penalty Quest until after he got back, & the doctors & nurses found him collapsed on the floor injured again. Confused about what happened, the staff can't find anything wrong except for a lot of sand in the room for some reason, so shrug it off as Jinwoo’s wounds have already healed.
4) Upgrading his strength & stamina so much while working out in the hospital are originally supposed to “spoiler that hasn't happened yet, but will for story reasons happen soon”.
5) That 1st dungeon key Jinwoo gets was all wolves, no goblins. While Jinwoo was trapped inside, he had much less angst, much more attacking.
Just saying…. We are still not even 1/3rd of the way thru the 1st book, so they are getting a lot of the world building in as much as they can early.
The Eternal Sleep Disease - a person does not awaken, but they have too much mana around them and their body can't handle it. The body eventually fails to handle the mana & goes unconscious. You can let the person die; or you can use a machine to artificially give & control the mana in the patients body to keep them alive, but permanently asleep. This treatment requires long term hospital care, & mana stones for the treatment machine.
Lil' woo starting his transformation to sung drip woo
I don't know if this one was the OG one, that started this game interface thingy in Manhwa's and stuff, but after reading a good number of them I gotta say, that this is by far the best iteration of the concept. Though it will only be revealed in later seasons, the "system" we see him interacting with is a much more integral part of the story then it appears to be, and not just a tool to progress a story.
Solo Leveling's source didn't start till 2018, and I know of at least one other that started a year earlier.
I'm pretty sure Solo Leveling wasn't the first one who did the concept, but it is the one who popularized it into mainstream. It's just that influential
I'm honestly glad you have chat around to assist with some of the subtler elements of the story, I'm told the original was more explicit about stuff but after a pair of adaptations it has gotten a lot faster and subtler.
Some people got confused from the manwha too but he gets all three rewards for his dailies, he doesnt just choose one
9:07 Is it Poki's cookies?! 🤣
"I'm concered about him." well, you're right to be XD
I can't wait for my GOAT to go from sung jin woo to sung DRIP woo my mans bout'a be ballin' 🙏😭🔥
It's nice to hear you have an addiction! (wait, that sounds wrong)
The daily quest is btw an actual one punch man reference, so you were right, good catch (I think that it's easier to overlook in the anime)
This episode really introduces how the show will progress and explains the title
Sadly there is for sure spoiler material in the OP. But also, you'll have no idea what it is or it's significance soooooo meh, I say if you think it sounds like a banger and you want to watch it I don't think it's going to ruin anything for you. At worst if they get to it this season, and I think they might at the end, you'll just be like OMG that's the one from the opening. But it doesn't hint at what happens with the situation, just shows you a specific enemy he is fighting.
Oh and he gets all the rewards every day, he doesn't have to choose just 1.
Also some differences in the anime from the manhwa.
1. He went into the Instance Dungeon much sooner. In the manhwa he only had 16 points in strength and 3 points unspent when he went in. So on the 3rd day after he woke up.
2. He didn't have a knife and there were no goblins. It was just him and the steel jaw wolves throwing hands from the jump.
3. Kang Taeshik was not present in the hospital meeting, we didn't meet him until shortly after this.
Yeah I’ve seen other reactions to the opening and it’s completely fine. Unless you’ve seen the manhwa, it’s basically impossible to realize any spoilers.
Assuming the pace stays even with about 4 chapters per episode, the OP would be completely safe around episode 10, but yeah it's not obvious unless you already know about a certain 5 letter word
@@NSAsterus949 Bingo
In the light novel he had 31 points in strength - he'd spent a week at the hospital after waking up (7 x 3 = 21 + 10 = 31).
I'm guessing that he got the knife from a random loot box.
Having Kang Kaeshik introduced early prevents the "where did this guy come from" trope. Hopefully we'll get a scene of him doing his thing before the team-up episode. ;-)
@@leonielson7138 Interesting, I was curious if the goblins and knife were something from the LN that was cut from the manhwa and was reintroduced for the anime. I wonder why the timeline change for the manhwa? They didn't show each day of him doing his dailies so they could have easily just told us a week past and it would have made no difference. Probably just one of those behind the scenes things that I'll never get an answer to lol.
This is probably going to be "Cliffhanger - The Series".
I've written this on another channel, but manhwa and cliffhangers go hand and hand
OH NO HE’S HOT -Squidward and Alicia
I think the most important distinction ive caught onto is that while Sung did not undergo a second awakening and is still in terms of mana is still 7 times weaker than the weakest hunters are supposed to be.
He isnt just a hunter though. He is also a player now.
So id presume no one else has the screen unless they are a player.
i feel like if there was more punishments for not going outside and getting some exercise, we would have more Bruce Lee looking people walking around.... and corpses, MOUNTAINS of corpses. 😂😂😂
One of the things I always wondered is if everyone had stuck it out in the dungeon; would there have been more than one "player"? Or would they have all died anyway?
Admittedly this is addressed somewhat later in the webtoon.
The 3rd commandment
-HAVE FAITH IN GOD
Everyone would die until the lost one in life and death consciousness state.
Spoilers alert
"There can only be one player"
Yeah, the OPM reference had me giggling. Also I guess it's called solo leveling cause he's the only "player" out there (at least that we know of right now), so he has to go alone in these instance dungeons to get stronger. Also can you imagine he just dies next episode and then respawns. I mean he is a player now.
duolingo bird got some upgraded penalties
they've got those cliff hangers on lockdown in this show
I think at this point you can safely watch the opening. It is slightly spoiler-ish, but not so much that it really gives anything away.
Watched Ep 3 just now, then came for reaction. This is an incredible anime. So many lately.
Without spoilers. There is a reason we know him as Sung Drip Woo
That is one sexy man later on
Some very few people even call him Korean Ichigi lmao
21:13 i mean, it didn't YET, the warning was that if he REFUSED his heart would stop in 0.02 seconds after refusing the invite. Which he didn't refuse, so, his heart didn't stop.
As for the questions: (Minor Spoilers....not much though)
yes he does become chad and handsome (probably starting next episode)
no he doesnt have earings.....but does get purple color added to him which is also cool
Muscle fatigue isnt gonna be an issue if he chooses the Instant Recovery reward though.
Its called solo leveling for a reason, hes the only one with the system
I don't know if anyone noticed but his dailies is the saitama training regiment.
I can't believe you didn't notice that the Megumi lookin' dude had Megumi's VA. They know
In terms of him becoming a chad:
🚨SPOILER ALERT 🚨
Most probably in the next episode, one of the nurses will notice his buff chest and she’ll be so _impressed_ that she’ll ask him for his number.
He's solo and he's leveling. He's... Solo Leveling.
badumtss
If I heard correctly the VA for Jinwoo was so into this character that he was coughing blood by the end of the second episode, or this one, not sure which.
Damn, like Sean passing out on Goku.
Bruh same. Palworld fun as hell.
7:36 If episode 1’s opening holds, it’s only been 3+ years since the gates started popping up, and JW is only known to have started doing work (and Hunter work at that) once his dad went missing and mom got sick. So, they were able to afford things before that point, and he didn’t get into gaming just because.
10 years in every version or Solo Leveling the gates appeared 10 years ago.
21:12
That is not what happened, it literally said that his heart would stop *in* *2* seconds, if he didn't become a player
20:07 Licia: "Don't you dare be the end of the episode though!!"
Hee hee.. if it were, her driving to the people who made this, to bitch slap em silly, or no? 🤭
Thx for the reaction
7:58 "Well, we know that the green-eyed girl is going to be super f___ing important ..."
Not really, but Han Song-Yi has a good character arc. I'm just glad that the anime is developing the friendship between her and Jinah - it was an annoying tell-don't-show in the light novel.
10:06 "He's literally being like ..."
Choi Jong-In isn't necessarily wrong - when Cha Hae-In awakened she had no sword skills, so she started training at Song Chi-Yul's dojo, so Jong-In can encourage his guild members by saying that training will improve skill.
yo chill out with the spoilers my dude or dudette
I got confused theirs no solo leveling ep 3 on patreon
I thought I was just going crazy lol
Yeah same. Thought Patreon was early access. But not for some series? or am i misunderstanding something? ^^
2:10
Me:who?
Alicia:magoomy
Chad is not enough more like he will become the rizzler
I must say that I'm a bit disappointed that they only showed Joohee leaving because in the manhwa they show her talking to Jinwoo outside of the hospital
Did that really happen in the manwha? I thought they only met when all the survivors were gathered up for that one gate later on
@@sammydray5919 I don't remember but I can still understand her surprised because this man looked compeletely different the next time they saw each other
Don’t worry no spoilers but he isn’t “giant dad” or “ungabunga”
And so it begins
10:51 the gate open is not a punishment from his dailies, its just a normal occurrence.
@@ceshmate1953 good
So... 4 days since recovery. 1st day penalty zone, 2nd day reward 1? 3rd day reward 2? 4th day full recovery.
Try them all to see the real effect?
Make sense.
only sung jin woo has the ability to level up no one else
Soon
I have readed the manwha and yeah there are spoilers in the opening which is a shame i heard it for myself and it's pretty good
I mean it not too obvious, but yeah it’s a spoiler nonetheless
@@cyberdragoon1432 yeah I get it's not to noticable but there are things that people would rather just learn along the way you know
@@cyberdragoon1432 not to mention the boss is to noticable
@@modestoguevara7655 True, since it foreshadows “that”
The only spoiler I see is Igris, and to be honest, from the other reactions I’ve seen, anyone who hasn’t seen the manhwa won’t even realize it’s a spoiler since there’s zero context.
i dont think this counts as a spoiler but the title of the anime is actually "I alone level up"
Another interpretation is, "Only I Can Level Up."
That's just the direct 1:1 translation, the proper translation is "solo leveling"
"i'd be weird if he was the only one with this power" you havent watched alot of power fantasies have you? its kind of their bread and butter
Man the anime is making me wanna reread the manwha
I would say is fine to react to the opening. There's nothing major there, specifically without context.
Kinda like Mob Psycho's OPs. Spoils a ton of stuff, but unless you already know, you don't have a clue what's going on.
im guessing you realize this now but you didn't correct yourself so just to be sure he doesn't have to pick one daily quest reward he gets all 3 every time and can choose when to accept them so he can save his status recover or like in this episode he waited to open his loot box until he was back inside so he is getting the plus 3 skill points every time
Slow a*s sand centipedes couldn't even catch one dude in 4 hours smh my head
Soooo at the rate we're going through episodes I'm guessing about 3-4 more episodes before Igris
uhhh no, our current pace seems to be about 4 chapters an episode, Igris isn't until 38, so we got probably another 6 or 7 episodes before encountering him, and it will probably be the finale of the first core before the other thing with Igris
Man i realy apreciate you reactions, you realy watch, not just fill the quota.
When are you going to watch INVINCIBLE S2?
They got you butt again at the end there
5:51 Menu screen jumpscare.
No patreon first, oki
Hi Alisha
Openings are always spoilers so.. same with trailers.
Day 158 of asking Alicia to play Nier:Automata!!
The op will only really spoil one specific fight and sexy jin woo. Nothing super story heavy.
The opening song is aight but the opening itself really basic and kinda mid. It is also cut really weird.
reaction and all is good but why do i have to hear her breathing noises bruh😭😭😭😭
Day 11 of saying you should react to call of the
the opening is NOT a spoiler you can watch it
"hes learning to murder now im into him"..........girl you need help lmfao
I never understood why in anime they always turn the lights off in the hospital. Im not proud of it but the hospital is like my second home when i was a kid and the lights are always on. You never know when there might be an emergency. Maybe they do this for dramatic effect but its very impractical
Imagine if he goes bald at the end of this😂 I know he wont but that be would hilarious. Saitama would be fuming that he has to lose his hair in exchange for power
