very well played! didn't notice her in the first round until the semi-final. like her bowing, tone and interpretation. she hasn't got the best violin comparing to her competitors but she certainly stands out and did a terrific job. good luck in the final round!
I loved the presto. Stylistically accurate at the same time as being dramatic. That is a very difficult middle ground to find, especially in this type of repertoire.
She needs another instrument, you can clearly hear that, especially in the Paganini Caprice, the violin does simply not react fast enough. Why she looks so SAD while playing all the pieces, also most of the time she closes both her eyes totally ! Was that her style since 10 years old ? This is my first time watching her performance from youtube after I finished watching the junior competition 2018. I knew she was the first winner in senior competition, that is why I watch her first.
I don't know how people can WRITE THESE types of comments ...wow! but if we are fair , not always a violin player is going to be famous for being a "top model" I don't think that Ginette Neveu, Ida Haendel, Sarah Chang ,Kyung-Wha Chung, Pamela Frank and so on ...where famous violinist for being considered "super cute" or "top models" they where famous for their way of playing the violin.
Apparently the judges and the audience thought not only that *that* was how it is supposed to be played, but that it was played in an exceptional manner.
You have to take in the fact that what we hear is most likely completely different from what the live audience hears. If the judges deemed it exceptional, then there are most likely things that we're unable to hear in a digital recording.
She was accepted to (the world's most selective) conservatory at 10, so I'd say Hahn would get pretty far in these competitions. And unless I'm mistaken, the competition was not well known when Hahn was a child.
Bro…everyone knows that Mozart 3 starts up bow. She needs to play at the sounding point with flat hairs as well, too much wrist more arm needs to be used for the sound. Also jesus, that instrument (or maybe the strings) has horrible reaction time, def need a different instrument.

Hillary Hahn does not this competition,, her skill and talent stands out since she was only 13 yrs old..
