Can you guys stop attacking her for one slip and some sharp notes-cmon now. She’s obviously somewhat is a international comp. she still made it to the next round. She did amazing and you guys need to stop bashing her for something you can’t even do. She did great
i know right? like she practiced and do you expect people to play perfectly, no mistakes or something whatsoever in a perfromance, she was probably nervous
This is probably the once in a few times someone doesn't perform as well as they always do, if you hear and watch sumina's other recordings of Caprice No.5 they are really well played. Show her more support guys, musicians need the confidence to stand on stage and perform their best and i personally think she has the talent and the time to improve much more.
People always only focus on the failure, like the memory slip. But never remember she is playing the original down down down up bowings for the paganini...so precise and clear
Tbh it gets increasingly easier to play with a better violin and now (not taking away from her trying to play it with the original bowing at a competition, takes guts)
@@Ickguenthrasil not necessarily. once you hit a certain 'price' for a violin, it becomes very apparent and obvious if you even 'slightly' hit a note a little high or low.
@@CknSalad but I'm not referring to intonation? And no matter the price point you will always be able to hear intonation. I'm referring to the projection of a violin while doing ricochet. Try playing the original bowing in Paganini 5 with a 5000 euro violin and a 5000 euro bow, and then with a strad and a peccatte. The better the violin the less effort you have to put in to produce the same sound as before
As an examiner, we do not focus on the mistakes on the candidate, but the techniques, musicality and their connection with the music to know their knowledge to the piece. Everyone mistakes, so why should we judge them by those?
is like telling a student in a Maths exam, that the final results for that sum doesn't matter, is the steps and the process that counts (when the steps probably took up an entire page). Pity that the question was worth 4 marks, the mistake was 1 mark deducted, with the wrong result costing another 1 mark, final score 50%. Damn! She was so judged on that one mistake. It just makes a judge's life so much easier. But I'm sure in the end, that one expensive mistake will probably get her much further in life. Imagine a solo violinist at a concert, making a mistake like that, might cost a career.

Performing in competition is completely different than other situations. Nerves can influence playing and even the best prepared player can make an error due to nerves. Also, since most people in competitions are young they sometimes have not yet acquired the necessary confidence and experience at performing. Give Sumina a break. She played very well.
Funny how people are acting like violin critics when none of them can produce a fraction of the sound she can nor can they play an instrument nearly as well as she can. The people critiquing her for a small memory slip have clearly never performed in front of an audience as a soloist. All musicians have memory slips, including the best of the best. I just find it ironic how it’s always the old, white men who don’t play instruments that have the most to say.
she may have had some slip ups but nevertheless she was wonderful! But it feels like there's still something missing... Hmm? And to the others saying she shouldn't have tried, I think it was better she did, than not. Watch her video playing Pag. 5!
Very fine playing, I must say. Slightly distracted by what appears to be several piles of old boxes on the stage, apparently once containing bottles of Menuhin claret?
Wonderful player . She has a joyful presence hiding her incredible intonation and tastefulness . Very different from Adamyan but totally engaging but a different kid of Mozart graceful but she can change mood quickly not a classical era period trait ! Her Schumann, Dvorak Bruch ,Mendells concerti and romantic repertoire is ideal .
She played 20min straight! Holy shit that’s tough already let alone she was playing one the most difficult pieces ever. I thought she did great though. And her bow technique is usually very solid. I’m actually very curious what she got from the competition? I felt like she’s really good to be in the final
I didn't know how hard it is to play a violin unless I took the initiative to start learning myself (2 months and yet I can't bow straight, bow is shaky, got no idea how to make sound out of the violin with tip and fro-(?) Bottom of the bow, just doing the scales has my shoulder, hands hurt like hell) I've got little to no knowledge about music but I could listen to music pieces for hours, I'm surprised at how some people actually find beautiful music boring I've seen a lot of comment saying people need to stop attacking her but didn't find any comment that was actually attacking her And ofc I couldn't notice mistakes because I was working with the music on and now re watching and noticed her expression which told me she messed up a lil She looks like she's giving her all to express through violin and her movement is so graceful... I'm also new to her channel but she inspired me a lot... She's a sweet person❤️ Looking her play motivates me... I might not stand in front of an audience and perform this gracefully but I do want to master every techniques I can and play to my hearts content... Might as well go to a teacher if I still can't play right after few more months I've written a lot of irrelevant stuffs but I want to say... I'm not an expert so I cannot notice any mistake at all... Fabulous playing T^T)❤️
The caprice no 5 wasnt the best, but i mean its also so exhausting to play so long and play this then. And it affords so much concentration. But we all know that she can play this caprice so perfectly, its really sad that this made her maybe upset for the rest of the caprice after her little fail. Poor sumina, but she is still great!❤️

Her expression said it all

That's why they judge playing live... Recordings can be manipulated and edited after multiple takes.

May Shuen Poon I kinda hear that too compared to the stage in London
May Shuen Poon . from what I’ve seen the stage gets fancier as the competition progresses
Byron Huang this is awful for a such prestigious competition then.
