If you can't play Wee Dragonauts, sub in Goblin Electromancer. A lot of spells in the deck only cost 1, but it'll still help you cast those Radical Ideas and Tormenting Voices at a discount
The time and $$$ investment, mostly. I had some gameplay of r/b menagerie planned, but the pc's on the fritz, so I'm putting it off for now. Hopefully, I'll be able to start putting out gameplay sometime in the new year
Dev, What about Aven Wind Mage? Essentially the same cost as Wee Dragonauts (3 CMC), it flies, and does almost the same thing (+1/+1 until end of turn). BTW, I don't like your PC being on the fritz.. (if you aren't good at fixing them, I hope one of your viewers/fans that is local to you is helping you out.. I wish I was local.. This is no good. I miss Ziggy. :-) )
A deck running electromancer also really wants Sure Strike. It's insane with your urchins and getting that 1 mana discount makes it a crazy boost. I also really like the aven windmage suggestion but it hurts our curve a bit. Nice one!

I've been talking about a dinosaur pauper deck since Ixalan came out! So glad you can play it in Standard Pauper. I wish I had enough common wild cards for arena...
I also tried making a mono red version of the last deck. I wanted to build Merfolk and if I had enough copies of each Merfolk it can be a fairly strong standard pauper deck.
I was playing an Izzet pauper deck that wasn't quite doing what I wanted it to when I got the notification for this video going up. Now I have a much better game plan. Thanks Dev!
Id like to point out, cuz im dumb myself. You can blink an enchantment off of their hexproof creatures as a combat trick. I figured this out recently and wished id realized it sooner. I know its obvious to alot of you, but i thought it was worth mentioning.
I have been having a lot of success with a mono-white flyers deck. It runs Healer's Hawk, Rustwing Falcon, Silverbeak Griffin, Exultant Skymarcher, etc. along with some removal and some combat tricks like Take Heart and Inspired Charge.
I’ve been having a ton of fun with an edited Eternal Thirst Arena deck. Ajani’s Welcome, Pridemate, then swarm with Vampire tokens via Queen’s Commission and Call to the Feast. Pridemate gets huge, Epicure drains the opponent every time we get a creature or lifegain, and we have an army on the board. Had a few people concede just to avoid waiting for the Ajani’s Welcome and Pridemate action
I played a Dimir deck and it was so consistent that I got the 4 Fireminds before the 4 Llanowar Elves. Most games were stomps. Just run removal like Dead Weight, Fungal Infection and the best piece: Artful Takedown. Then I just run a lot of fliers. The best is Watcher in the Mist but I also had a lot of drakes. Then things with surveil, like Whisper Agent, to fix the draws.
I played dimir with early removal and turtle for a finisher and it was very consistent. I didn't see one game where someone played turtle, which is strange since its probably the best top end card in the format.
@@Pumaman86 turtle without flying gets destroyed by deathtouch or just 2 creatures with 3 attack, or any flyer deck. Hexproof decks are not consistent enough to win 5 times without losing to aggro on the way occasionally, considering that at least 70% of decks are aggro in the format.
@@Derael That is why being equipped with early removal like infection and craving makes dimir good competition, at least when I played which was earlier in the meta. And yes, turtle is susceptible to deathtouch and chump blockers, which is why I ran a copy of arcane flight. I'm sure mileage varies, but I had very good results, having to intentionally concede in order to get my play set of elves.
My first Fireminds was due to a Pauper take on Dev's Unblockable Blades deck. For example you can do a Gruul deck with Bristling Boar/Vigorspore Wurm with Frenzied Rage to become unblockable. Of course Llanowar Elves to ramp, decent amount of red removal and Yavimaya Sapherds/Jungleborn Pioneers to stay alive on board until you can chunk them with unblockables. Also a Goblin Motivator so Vigorspore Wurm can pump vigilance itself with haste. Or you can do a grindy Golgari deck with Vigorspore Wurm/Moodmark Painter.
Most fun deck, well i have to be partial to my own brew here … *SULTAI Counters* … Can't say it's a finished list, but the strategy is pretty clear, try and upgrade creatures with counters for added value, and otherwise it sort of plays like 'control', not in the sense that it uses blue to counter everything (though it does run 5 counter spells), but in the sense that besides 'a core' of creatures and spells it adds some creatures to counter prevalent decks in the format (list could probably be upgraded, but i don't have any common wildcards left). Won't win you all the games, heck seems like the matching system and shuffler won't even let me get more than two wins, but it's a (in my opinion) fun deck to play, even though it needs some more tweaks. Goes for the long term win ! 4x Sparring Construct 2x Dead Weight 2x Syncopate 4x Ironshell Beetle 1x Vicious Offering 1x Moment of Craving 2x Costly Plunder 3x Severed Strands 3x Negate 4x Skymarch Bloodletter 3x Spinal Centipede 1x Hitchclaw Recluse 3x Notion Rain 2x Mephitic Vapors 1x Thallid Omnivore 1x Rhizome Lurcher 1x Mammoth Spider 1x Eviserate 3x B/G tap 3x G/U tap 3x B/U tap 1x Evolving Wilds 6x Forest (mainly for turn 2 beetle, even though preferred as a turn 4 play to upgrade a 3 drop) 4x Swamp 1x Island
Surprised I didn't see a Golgari sacrifice deck here, it's so good and beats nearly every deck from this list except maybe hexproof deck. The idea is playing a lot of 2 for 1 creature and a lot of black control that sacrifices your creature. Vicious offering is especially good, and I think it's simply the best removal in the format, it kills almost everything, and it can be a good cheap removal if you need to get rid of healer's hawk or something with 2 toughness. Severe the threads is slightly less useful, but it's extremely good to against luminous bond, since you get to destroy enemy creature and might get ton of life at the same time. As a finishers you can use Vigorous wurms and Lurkers that will grow really big when your creature die, and you can supplement the deck with a bunch of card draw advantage using burglar rats, 1/2 cats and 1/1 fliers that are all great sacrifice targets. Wild growth is the best combat trick for this deck, since your 1/1 creature boosted by it can kill almost any big creature opponent has. 2/2 gorgon with deathtouch is another great inclusion, and almost never trades badly, while helping to deal with hexproof somewhat. Really fun deck to play, and I got four 5 win runs in just 2 days with that deck.
jungleborn pioneer is a great fit in the bant hexproof deck. gives you a 2/2 blocker and a hexproof creature for 3 mana, pretty great value imo. the hexproof guy does die to cosmatronic wave and mephitic vapours, but it hasn't happened to me playing the deck yet.
My local shop they play standard style and booster drafts. Where should i go to refresh on the rules i haven't played in 15-16 years. Never had to worry about those ban or restricted list. We always played open.
Yep, except for the fact that on Arena, you can only play with cards that are currently available at common in standard, whereas normal pauper lets you play a card if it's EVER been printed at common. This means that Guft of Paradise, Murder, and a couple of other cards can't be played (on Arena, at least). Importantly, I missed the fact that Wee Dragonauts wasn't printed at common this time around, so you have to sub in Goblin Electromancer or Aven Wind Mage in that slot.
I have to agree on the depth of the format, to few wildcards though :( … AND, i dunno about others, but depending on the deck i play, i face all different type decks, *as if the matchmaking is rigged! … and if the match maker can't make me loose, the shuffler seems to be on standby* … pretty enraging tbh. … like i don't mind loosing, if i get a fighting chance... but 9 out of 10 lost games just feel like a set up loss tbh.
Golgari is really nice, since Yavimaya Sapherd is such a difficult creature to punch past. You also get to do fun Pauper Undergrowth combos like Moodmark Painting a Vigorspore Wurm for a huge unblockable hit.
I’ll also mention, it’s really cool to see you partnering with Corbin. It makes a lot of sense, and you are both content creators who are creative, but still enjoy making something competitive.
The deck that I win nearly every tournament I play is mono black discard/- ... seriously. I am shocked that Dev didn't touch on this deck. It consistently beats the ones he listed, rat colony, green/black, etc. All of em. Why? Because most decks playing against it get their hands erased before they can get to the payoff cards.. and the creatures that do slip through get either -2/-2 or -5/-5. Meanwhile, the cheap creatures I play are resilient & either draw me cards or return to the battlefield as a 2/2 zombie or a 1/1 saproling or act as an unending flow of chump blockers as I wait for the cards I need. As a result, grindy games are in my favor and quick ones are off the hook. It honestly wins 8 or 9 times out of 10.
I was trying to build discard, but I can't find a good way of closing the game. Windgrace Acolyte (I think it's called - the 5-mana 3/2 flyer that gains you 3 life) was the best thing I could find, but that kept getting shocked and dead weighted. I think the 6-mana 3/3 lifelink guy that explores could be good, but that deck is really low on finishers in general. You just keep topdecking useless discard stuff (because by turn 6 there hand is gone anyway), but they topdeck fat stuff because they don't have a bunch of effectively dead cards in their deck. Discard needs to close games fast once the opponent is in topdeck mode, but I haven't been able to get it to finish.
Dev, here. Try this. I just went 5-0 yet again. Three of the matches got me down to 5 or 6 life.. and in one match his/her lifegain got them to 34 life, but I still won. Grind.. this is the deck. Just wanted to point out it only allows Commons and Snapper is sadly Uncommon
wait has snapper had a common print in standard? As well isnt llanowar uncommon in standard
No it's not....
Look at the card in the video
Snapper and Llanowar both have common printings in standard. I think, however, that Wee Dragonauts falls into this category, so if you can't play it, sub in Goblin Electromancer.
@@SBMTG thank you fot the tip and hard work you put into this, sorry about your rig, continue with the bomb new intros, and I am now off to play the Izzet deck
Snapper is in common and Llanowar has never been printed in uncommon. Also the cards in the video have the common set symbol so I don't know how you would've misinterpreted them as uncommon.
The fan audio in the background is killing me. ^^;
Nice!
Awesome!!!
Bant boggles is silly. Just stick to UG. Luminous bonds isn't worth the mana mishaps and slowdown imo
Fun
