I always save old bed rails, I’ve used them for so many things over the years. They’re not super heavy duty but it’s still free angle iron and super handy for little projects.
Thats really very neat and clever, nice to see that you use claw hammers as well, I noticed a metal worker using a warrington hammer ( carpenters tool) for panel work, he said its fairly cheap, and useful in confined spaces, I keep walking past the hammer rack at the builder merchants, I have to control my urge to keep buying them, in case they come in useful !!
Nice neat littel rack Tony. I'd be inclined to build a simular design for the other side just for a push handle to make wheeling the tool box around easier. Another project you could do is some simple hooks for wrapping up extension cords 2 posts welded to a flat bar spaced apart about 10" mounted on the wall or end of the bench or even on the tool box too.
Fitzee you're the best never thought I would say this but I think my hammer rack I made was better to bad I can't send ya a photo. Same Mine made out if scrap also. You're still the King of everything else bar none!
Excellent fabrication as usual tony I have a rack similar that I made for my welding trolley along with others all made out of what was knocking around I always was called a hoader and driving around I’d see something some one threw ot and stop and collect it it’s all been useful I’m running out now though lol
I've got drawer so full of screwdrivers it won't close....and I don't want them on the wall either....love the hammer rack! Thinking I will see if I can fab something in the same vein
You've sure go a lot of hammers in one place. When I think about it. I probably have more hammers than you, but they aren't all in the one place, so it's not obvious how many hammers I have. Some are in my metal shop, some in my wood shop and some in my garden shed. So I don't have the problem you have in trying to store them all in one place. The hammer rack is a great idea; It will let you choose which hammer to use for what job easily.
My toolbox is about that size and has a handle already on it to pull it around. Guess what….its full of hammers 😂 they don’t fit as great as what you made but they stay there and it’s better than a drawer full of hammers 👍
One thing that you can make is a rack for your pry bars/large screwdrivers.. Make the same thing as you just made for your hammers but put a sheet of metal on the top with holes in it for your pry bars and screwdrivers to go down through it. I have something like it on my box and it works great. Love making usable items our of scrap metal. Later
I've got this old Toyota Carolla i made into a drag car with LS and all the go fast bits. I'm wondering if you can show us how to take it back to stock🤣
Bedrail in the US is mostly tempered, it cuts easy and welds beautiful but I've burned up every drill bit I've ever tried in it, I use my plasma cutter to burn holes
Bedrail is made out of recycled scrap metal and has in my experience contained lots of ball and roller bearing pieces that make it very hard to drill. Sometimes you can see them as they didn't melt completely and are visible in the surface of the metal.
Must be too cold for the shop inspector to come out today. We had a heat wave here in Australia, it was almost 100°F (37° to 38°C) here in Queensland for several days. In Melbourne Victoria it was 105°F (41°C). It's not so much the heat that's the issue, it's the high humidity that comes with it. Still better than freezing cold anyway, but better if it's milder.
How's that walking beam trailer project going, or is it too cold to be working on it at the moment? I've been held up with projects here, it's either been blazing hot or raining. Nice if we could control the weather and adjust it to suit our needs.
I tried a number of different things over the years gor nuts and bolts. Seems you have to empty them out so you can go through them. I buy simple plastic bins. They do their job but still not what I see as a good idea. Still needs to be fine tuned!
I made timber shelves from 1 x 6 and I have my nuts and bolts in small ice cream containers. (I think they are 1/2 gallon?) They are all sorted into size and thread type, so pretty easy to find what I need. Only issue usually is finding a bolt the right length, so I do have to tip one out sometimes.
FITZEE FITZEE FITZEE while I admire your OCD quality 😂 I see you have gotten fancy nancy bug simple yes but I would've just taken angle iron an called it done 😂 but very cool 😎 none the less
@@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp I have tools that I've had for over 50 years. I also have some tools that were my fathers, so they'd be well over 60 years old or more.
In case you are superstitious, you have 13 hammers there. Better find another hammer to make it 14. I'm not superstitious and I don't think you would be either.
Use what ya got. My scrap pile saves me all the time. Thanks for the tips.

Around the 1st of every month, you can always find some at apartment complexes because people can't get them into their cars when they're moving
The problem with bed rails is that they are nearly always banana shape. They are also made from really hard steel.
I just find the bed rails so hard the don’t drill for crap.
Them scraps do come in handy...that rack came out fine and its practical too...Yes Sir the tips are always great
Building from scraps is a great way to do many things, like this.
Cheers Tony! 👍💪✌
That gave me an idea for a small nuts and bolt bins on the side of my own tool box
maybe tack a piece of coat hangar between the hammers to prevent them falling through? excellent vid as always👍
Great idea Tony Why didn't I think of that...😂
Nicely done Fitzee!
I've made a few hammer (and tong) racks, and they have all been to small, I collect hammers like a dog collects fleas!

well done
and now a free drawer!

My screwdrivers are in racks on the pegboard behind my benches. Easy to find the one I need.
That turned out great, handy to

You da MAN !!! Tony.
nice hammer rack and i will bet you already have a plan for the empty tool box drawer
Nice hammer rack !!
Great idea and pragmatic 😎
Another quickie might be something to hold a few angle grinders and some discs
That's pretty cool tony.
You can cut and reweld one side to taper it to fit the smaller hammers and handles.
I was thinking the same thing, make it tapered and line the hammers up in order of size.

Wow I can't believe your work bench is cleared off
Cool !
Neat job
Good stuff
my welding cart is made from old bed frames, cieling fan drop tubes and an old cheap 2 wheeled dolly.didnt cost anything but time.
Good thinking.
hey fitze ...how about a wall mount kindling splitter....
a lever, sharpened edge,,,foot or hand pressed arm
I have a bunch of old axe heads here. Going have to look those up for ideas

@@jeaniebuchanan Might be made in that country with all the backyard furnaces making who knows what out of anything they can find lying around.
You need some scrap steel bins to keep your scrap steel sorted in types.
The business.
Slick!

Have too many irons in the fire. Seems I want to build everything. But too much tends to make it hard to finsh stuff
can you show how to make some sort of shelf and drawers for hardware- all different size nuts and bolts and such…
