I agree, he should have a paint stencil that says: (Re-engineered by) and underneath that ( Snowball Engineering)with his business phone number. He could paint stencil it right next to the equipment product name.
@@mrMacGoover Rather than painting it on, which will last weeks, he should have a type of Makers Mark than he pounds into a piece of the metal he re-engineered. Doesn't have to be big, just a mark that is similar to his logo. :)
I applaud your approach to each project. Instead of charging in like a bull in a china shop, you think each aspect through, assessing the pros and cons of each step. Your process and skills are to be admired.
Very neatly done. That reminded me of a welding class practice. While you are more proficient with air-arc, for beginners the instructor had us grab the gas torch and hack to pieces the to be removed into sections. Then coming along with the air arc and finding the separation lines, the thing literally fell apart - or showed the students where they hadn't found the separations. So we took a nine ton extremely complex processing machine and turned it into a pile of 5-6 tons of scrap metal which showed us exactly what needed the air-arc TLC precision and the parts that needed to be preserved. A two day job turned into a couple of hours.

Agree with both of you, you could make a muck grab that'll last forever but if it''s 3 times the price of a low cost knock-off it;s gonna be difficult sell, im as guilty as the next man i should buy the super quality snap-on tools but in the choice of the £100 snap-on spanner set or the £30 Nielsen spanner set which do you think i'll choose if it's my money.
From a quick stroll around the Internet it is evident that this manufacturer does not have a good reputation. Your repair, on the other hand, is world class and will make this device usable for a long time in the future. It certainly was a substantial rebuild, Oliver. That ESCCO bench is certainly a game changer for the type of work you undertake, I think it and the new plasma table are paying for themselves. The big Huron mill is a nice add and as your capabilities get better know in the region will attract work too I believe. Nice upgrade and repair to the muck rake now brush grapple blade.

Greetings Oliver from the oldest town in Texas, USA, Nacogdoches. My shop had a similar condensation problem that was solved by spraying 1.5 inches of closed cell foam on the outside of the roof then white silicone to protect the foam. It made a big difference, especially in the summer keeping the heat out on our Texas summers.
Good thoughts! I’m from San Antonio. Using white silicone to cover the foam will help degradation a bunch. Watch for spore or seed build-up after fall , in accumulation it’ll mold. It’s always something!
They got snapped off because of the thickness of the tube they were mounted into Olli, those hooks your building now should be strong enough to lift a truck!

Looking good, I refurbed a muck grab as the tines had worn down even but lost length. I had ar400 cut out abt 2ft and welded it on the side of each tine after tacking then a pre heat. Farmer very pleased as it put off buying a new grab for a few years. Your plazma is the nuts for doing those type of jobs. Happy new year from Essex

Brilliant repair job 👌🏼 good to show the reason why the grab was broken. Manufacturing should be done better for farmers as they can’t all afford attachments for every job! Putting Hardox on weak metal is stupidity a waste 😂

Hi Ollie I look forward to your work! professional and very informative as well as educational! For your roof consider lightweight 4x8 foam panels with exterior surface containing silver radiant barriers. For spray foam installs it is vital that the two component foam be mixed properly by professional using high quality equipment. Otherwise there is a risk of insufficient polymerization leaving volatile toxic components in the foam to contaminate the air in your shop. The net can be consulted for a number of examples of spray foaming jobs gone wrong. One extreme case require the homeowners to abandon their brand new home warm regards vic

On the roof front it may be worth considering some spray foam insulation with a cover sheet of some sort, or leave it exposed!! Depends how many pennies you want to spend.. happy new year & already looking forward to next Sunday.

Plasma out the rectangular holes for the tines, that must really put a smile on your face. If I was to do it at home it would probably have to be holesaw and hand file 😂

As to that piece of junk that came in, after your judicious work with all your tools. it is literally 200% better than factory. All you have done, is give them something they will try to bust that much harder! I love to hear your bacon frying in the background as you weld, shows what good setup results in : superb welds!!

The factory I work at has an inner roof made of corrugated sheet metal with an air gap between it and the actual roof. The air gap does stop condensation from forming on the inner roof, but it still forms on the outer roof layer. Then the water drips down either through any of the small gaps or collects at the end and runs down the wall like a waterfall.

Hi Ollie. Maybe others have said before, wouldn’t it be better to drill or cut out some holes on the tines of your forklift and fabricate or bolt something on there for when lifting with straps. The clamps do the job but what if they do pull off. We had a forklift with a hole cut out the tines. We had a threaded tow ball then bolted to the tine. Handy for moving trailers around and stop anything sliding off the fork. Great work otherwise mate. Keep up the good work.
Someone sure gave that muck grab a hard time. The fact that the box section was too thin combined with using it for war it wasn't intended for made a good job of wrecking it.
Funny it seams to be a common thing with muck grabs. Thin box section, gets some wear and some rot, mine was the same it was paper thin when it failed. Replaced with two pieces of 10mm angle welded into a channel, should last me out.
Probably mundane to you. But an interesting little project. Hope 25 brings in some of the bigger jobs you crave. I'm the same as a Carpenter Builder. I prefer the bigger jobs. Extension at the very least. Or new house build. I hate maintenance work. But to make a quid I have done a lot of repair work.
