This video had me thankful that there are huge fans of 64 that still recognize the good in Zero. Everyone tends to condemn a game for having motion controls when usually it's just a matter of acknowledging and getting accustomed to the learning curve (Star Fox Zero and Zelda: Skyward Sword being examples of unjust motion control hatred, as they respond very well, despite constant complaints of "The controls are stupid and broken, it's not my fault I screwed up!").
Most people focus on either the controls or the fact that it's a "re-hash" of 64 in their reviews. It was a breath of the FRESHEST air to hear someone critique the actual level design of the game, both the good (i.e. Corneria 1 incorporating the enemy reveal maneuvers, and Corneria 2 getting the fast-paced waves of the end-game) and the bad (i.e. the Gyrowing's pacing of death and the bonus fights being incorporated as separate levels instead of alternate bosses of already existing levels).
I was surprised to hear your #1 fav, but I can definitely understand the points you made for it. I'd say I hold Fortuna and Sector Beta in a tie since I love them each for their different aspects (and I'm indecisive).
I genuinely hope that the shortcomings of this game, (and it's overall below average reception) don't ruin our chances of getting another new, fantastic, modernized Star Fox game.

Star Fox Zero had a lot of merit, but the control scheme along with the failure of the Wii U's lack of sales resulted in an unfortunate blow to such an amazing series. I sincerely hope that we have a return to the series someday.

If Starlink: Battle for Atlas is anything to go by, Star Fox isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Control schemes be damned.

Dude what, I just looked through your entire video and after I was like "hey let's check some comments". AND NO COMMENTS?! 70 VIEWS? This video is very well made. I don't agree with your ranking but it is a good ranking video and I really enjoy the fact that you can see the good in the game.
Based on this video alone, I think you deserve more viewers on your videos. This is a really good example of a good TH-cam gaming channel that is overlooked. Keep it up man, share your videos, you deserve it!

    • @GoodOldDaysGaming

Thanks man. Yeah, it's very hard to get views on gaming things these days, as it's an oversaturated market. I think I've made some decently unique content here and there, but I really need to focus on real life since this TH-cam thing is a time-consuming endeavor going nowhere. I'll probably still make videos, but overall I think it's going to slow down. Between a former channel and this one, I've earned about 500 subscribers over 3 years. While that's still something, in terms of TH-cam, it's really bad. So, once again it's all a red flag to get my priorities straight. But thanks for appreciating the video!

It's all just perseverance until the algorithm blesses you. If it ever does. In your case it seems to finally be working, as I saw this on my home screen as a recommendation. So here's a belated congratulations!

Not gonna lie, I have the awful habit of making headcanons of games that hadn't been released but have a lot of hype and pedigree on them, so to me, _Zero_ sounded like the Star Fox team did their counter assault on the invasion of Corneria like in the first game, but just as they were winning, they got warped into an alternate mid future Corneria that was in the brink of ruins, where the reformed Star Fox had been crushed in their first great mission, so you got put into the middle of assisting a last ditch repel effort like in Katina with Cornerian soldiers who don't trust you or believe you in being the SF team ally with you as you prove your wits in an all range mode battle in which you have to be precise to destroy almost only all enemy forces. Depending on the end of it, the warp reopens and can throw you into the past you're from, or an even more distant future Lylat has died and you're fighting a losing battle against Venomians who had already won. The premise of the game is to make you experience the classic N64 levels but on three different timelines, with the ending mission taking place in the Black Hole, whose ending differs on what timeline you enter it, and the endings could be restoring the status quo in Lylat, being ultimately defeated and singulared into black hole, or actually coming from the past and managing to rescuing a near dead James McCloud in the end, which would be the best ending but the most complex to reach considering the confusing and hard requirements to meet the needed timejumps into the different timelines. A bit like _ChronoTrigger_ in essence, but you get the gist.
Gee, it was a remaster of the N64 game, _how swell..._ 🐦

Star Fox Zero might have been a bit of a setback for the franchise, but it’s still a lot of fun, and I can always count on it to give me a good time.
As for my favorite level, it’s probably Sector Beta because of how immersive and action-packed. You have both the Cornerian Republic and Venomian Empire putting up a hell of a fight, Bill and Kate joining in the fun, General Pepper having the honor of finishing off the enemy’s flagship, Star Wolf coming back to challenge Star Fox just like old times and all the praise Fox’s teammates give him after getting a Mission Accomplished. It’s pure Star Fox perfection.
Though Corneria is a close second when you use the Retro Arwing.

I for one didn’t mind the bonus missions that much, the Aquarosa was a fun if challenging fight, it was at least nice to go through Meteo just like old times (Meteo in any Star Fox game really calls to mind that time Han Solo flew the Millennium Falcon into the asteroid field in Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, no wonder it’s such a staple in the series), plus the Cosmic Dodora was still a fun fight (who cares if it’s a reskin of the Monarch Dodora, in fact it’s supposed to be a more powerful version), it was fun chasing Andrew down in Area 3 and going through Zoness in the Arwing in the Satellite Missions, fighting against Pigma and Andrew on your own, controlling Peppy for once and single-handedly taking down a whole Salvadora while you’re at it, and of course fighting against Wolf one on one, no holds barred, to the death, (or at least to the destruction of your respective vehicles)

What about salvadora, that was a great level, anyway my top five is :
    5. Sector Omega
    4. Titania
    3. Fortuna
    2. Corneria (both)
    1. Sector Beta
This was my first star fox game. And I have been enjoying it so far.

  • @shanestone9770

I can see your point why you hate Zoness in Zero but I for one love a good change of pace every once in a while, I mean fast paced on rails shooting and dogfighting is fun but this is pretty fun too, usually I hate stealth missions, mainly because once you’re spotted you have to start all over again but not here, plus I love how you’re encouraged to take your time, it’s nice taking it nice and sloooooooow in the Gyrowing, plus you first meet Katt Monroe in this level, and you have to agree Direct-I is adorable, but if you don’t like it here you’ll love it in Star Fox Guard (I already know you love it in 64), sure a tower defense game is an odd spinoff of Star Fox but it’s pretty fun, and Zoness is pretty fun there too, you get to fight the Queen Clucktron

Nah the star wolf fights are most certainly the best, plus having them in short level form makes it more convenient to fight them head on
Instead of fighting them at the end of a level
It’s certainly better than the Zoness missions…

  • @shanestone9770

At least 3 levels in this game are gonna give you Star Fox 64 deja vu, these are Sector Alpha (Sector Y and Area 6), Sector Gamma (Sector Z), and Titania (guess?), Titania probably giving you the most deja vu, just guess what you have to do there, if you guessed roll through the level in the Landmaster to rescue one of your wingmen the boss, bingo, if you guessed it was Slippy you’re close, it’s actually Peppy this time, but still, deja vu

Sorry but I'm no slave to Nostalgia and she's not my mistress; I liked the overall experience of this more than Lylatwars. Of course the N64 game is a classic with some great memorable set plays but come on; it's a 2D blaster faking it's 3D fluffy feathers at you. You're not actually 'moving' into anywhere lol. Presentation in these games also matters a ton to me: Starfox looks like his dad was a baboon chief in the N64 game - sorry but that's not gonna wash. I enjoyed Starfox Adventures & Zero overall better.

My favorite level is hard to choose but I’ve narrowed it down to Sector Alpha for the Sector Y Area 6 vibes it gives off (plus you even get to single-handedly take down a Salvadora), Sector Beta simply because of the callbacks to Star Fox 64 (like Bill Grey, Katt Monroe, the Sarumarine Captain, the Meteo Crusher Pilot, the Area 6 Commander, and Star Wolf), Titania where if you’ve played Star Fox 64 before (and if you haven’t why not) you’d get some serious deja vu, Zoness for just how nice a change of pace it is to control the Gyrowing (and you first meet Katt Monroe in the game there), Peppy’s Flight a bonus mission where you get to take control of everyone’s favorite wise old rabbit Peppy and single-handedly take down a Salvadora (and you’re in for a big surprise if you “do a barrel roll”), Fortuna for how beautiful it is (and guess who’s back in the Star Fox series after a 23 year absence (not counting their appearance in command)), and Sector Omega just for how fun it is to blast through the level at high speed (so long as you’re not trying to get a mission accomplished, that medal is completely unreasonable, Amiibos won’t help you here, you have to get through the whole first phase without hitting anything including enemy fire (unless you barrel roll to deflect it), which is much easier said than done, I lost count of how many attempts it took me, hands down the hardest medal in the entire series), who knows maybe you can help me decide
