That does not mean that this is a bad device.
It looks awesome but just can't help think it's all hype and just another amp modeler! I always seem to go back to my 'real' amps to get the tone I need. Great video Ray \m/

Honestly all amp modellers out there today are capable of delivering good tones. The reason people say they sound all the same is because we reached the point where modellers and sims sound so close to the real amps that there’s no much difference between two different modellers and sims, they might be EQd differently but the juice is the same at the end of the day. The main reason to choose one modellers over another comes down to features and processing power, not much else.

A few people have said now it's not game changing or earth-shattering and sounds similar to what's already out there. I'm fine with that as someone who has pre-ordered. It's the touchscreen and other quality of life features it has that made me chose this over its competitors as someone new on the modeling market, but I understand perfectly why someone who already has an Axe or Kemper would be happy to stay where they are. Personally I think a touchscreen and social media-like sharing platform are very 2021, it's just missing an app from which you can control it, which I'm sure is coming given it has Bluetooth which isn't currently used for anything. I also think it's power gives it more room to grow, especially when it comes to time-based and pitch-shifting effects, I haven't seen anyone be able to max out its DPS yet. I'm looking forward to getting mine.
Rabea said it the first thing he played that really has the amp feel. Do you agree? I am on Sweetwaters Pre Release for this and was stoked because of the size. But something keeps telling me to get the AXFX 3 mark 2 and wait for the upcoming Cygnus update. I am currently a Helix user. Plus Cortex is lacking in some effects (though they had a lot more listed early in so I know more are coming). My friends say get the Cortex and hang in to the Helix for a little bit. Us AXFX cost and then a controller is a lot.
You have reasonable questions. The Cortex has some nice UI aspects and it’s a great first release. I have put all of these top modelers next to each other and there is no question that Fractal’s technology and captures and options just sound and feel better than everything else. Cygnus will take it another step out with feel and tone. At all that at the end of the day, you get what you pay for and it depends on what you want and your standards for a sound that inspires you to play. And what you’re willing to compromise for cost. We live in a great time with lots of good options. The greatest sounding option is clearly the AFX3 and the FC foot controllers. It’s give and take with other conveniences. If your highest priority is amazing amp-like tone without fatiguing, plastic-like high-end, then I believe you’d choose the AFX3, if you could have all of them lined up to properly audition. This was a great first impressions video. It’s the new toy on the block and a year from now we will see how it all settles out with adoption and evolution. It’s nice to see everything advancing so much now. Good luck!

I was also hesitant to get tube amps due to maintenance and it is a pain tbh. I think this feels the best imo. If u set it up correctly and even add your own favorite pedal or use the internal pedals it’s imo the best. The only other modeler that feels and sounds great is the overlooked Yamaha 100hd double modeler. Comes with power. Plug it in and play it through your guitar cabinet. It’s $800 new. Less used obviously. Idk why it’s overlooked. And you can choose what tube sound you prefer and what wattage etc. The QC has the helix and Kemper combined and can capture pedals. I do none of that. I or assed I’m it twice but recently grabbed one due to the possibility of tube shortages. Although, guitar, amp, pedal industry is a big one and someone will come up with a solution other than getting them from Russia. oh damn i want it so hard ... but i already sold a kidney for my last guitar ... i still need one to live right ? xDD
Also thanks for a honest review! I think i gonna wait until there will be the "plugin Support" ... like having cory wong or plini plugin outsourced from my CPU and it still sounds like on my PC ... daaaamn
Depends honestly
@@xanderraymondcharles I know im annoying about my Analog Pedals ... BUT can you make a video of the QC and run your favorite pedals in front of it and share ? Ive been disappointed a lot by modelers that absolutely tend to destroy the dynamics as soon as you plug pedals in front of them. Would really like to see and hear that.
Is this worth it? Im planning on getting an hx stomp but I can save alittle bit more and buy this. Been using neural dsp plugin and i am amazed with the tone I can get.
..Name that tune..was that part of (In the still of the night)..
Nopeeeee ;) incorrect sir
I feel like the gate would have been more useful after the OD instead of before? Maybe it doesn't matter much who knows lol. Awesome playing and awesome tones man!
Stillborn for the tune right?
My Fender Gt40 has a touch screen its actually pretty cool. the amp alone doesnt but when i link it through bluetooth i can build rigs with my phone....alot of amp choices, cabs, pedals, etc....the amp doesnt sound that great but its really not a true "amp"
Sick
\m/
Im still very happy with my AX8, still the features it has makes it very tempting to get.. But I probably won't really need it.
You got that shirt on Amazon didn’t you?
Totally worth it man
Bro those chords at 9:20 are nuts
Name that tune? That was Zakk Wylde Black Label Society Stillborn.
“Stillborn”
Nailed it 🙌
Great by the way
Move over Line 6 Pod GO😜
haha ayeeee
Never for that kind of money. 😝😝😝😝🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
05:28 Oh shit, no smile? REDFLAG
05:36 The Power of highgain squeels
Hi ray!
Papa fluff and ray bae
could you imagine all the pedals you could buy with that money! :)
Cool thing Fluff did !!
One flaw why I wouldn't buy it is that the housing doesn't look waterproof. With all the venting will it withstand playing live ??
If they made a rack version then maybe.
Neural DSP had a video a while back showing it getting temperature and humidity tested so I think it'll be fine in bad conditions.
@@thomasbyrne7372 You would be confident that with that controlled test ?? So any liquid thru those vent areas would be ok ? Look at all the other brands .
Still can't tell if I like it yet but
Maybe overhyped but still awesome
Sounds like a axe fx
It's amazing how many people badmouth things, because their single tracked guitar doesn't sound like a quad tracked recording.
What do you mean
Not you, just in general.
I heard somebody say a few days ago, that they didn't like the Quad Cortex because they pretty much couldn't get a particular album tone from it.
Like no shit, the original album recording was probably tracked several times over and went through 75 miles of studio processing, not to mention having a bass under it.
Give it a couple more days.
It’s just aight
@@xanderraymondcharles that's what one of my friends said the same thing you did the first 2 days he had it. He like it but stated it wasnt really any better than his helix. Then after tweaking it for a few days he changed his opinion. Hopefully the next firmware update will address some concerns and improve it. But honestly at this point there is a narrow room for improvement vs where we were 10 years ago.
I hear ya man, but nothing beats a real amp for me. Thanks for hanging. Means a lot 🙌
@@xanderraymondcharles yeah man. Even effects too. There is something special in an analog effect vs their digital counterparts.
Absolutely. Don’t get me wrong, modelers and plug-ins are so fun, but at the end of the day, they’re emulating something that already exists ya know?
i love the fact that its not a "this is the best thing ever since I got a free one and getting paid to mislead you" grear video Ray. Still think it is not as good as the kemper. great features but still sounds like a modeler. not sure if it will pass as a real amp live through the PA or not. Stay metal my friend.
Your crazy to make your assumption from this video.
No offence but this is easy the worst video of fhe cortex going around. Im not trying to be mean but its easy to see this guy has no idea what he is doing.
I think hes just trying to have fun. Not really demoing a pedal.
Because hes playing is downright horrible
Thanks homie I appreciate you
@@xanderraymondcharles yeh cool dude. But im not really sure what your trying to do in this video. Im not trying to be rude or offensive, but it's just my honest opinion.
Its probly the reason why you didlnt receive a quad cortex to demo or review direct from neural.
It’s cool until the next one comes out
Awesome, but in 5-10 years it will be a paper weight
My stacks of Pedals will be just as awesome as my Tube amp
BTW I own a Katana 100 MKII head
I realize the clock is ticking.....
Real rangemasters we’re incredibly noisy. A simple gate would cure it.
man the price points of these modelers are nuts big nope
Man just give a cable an amp a guitar and that's it
First watch
Android SUUUUUCKS lol
Meh. Really it's Meh.
Nothing great about the QC... my existing 2 modellers can deliver the sounds...
Ahh I wouldn’t go that far. I think there’s lots of great things about the QC. It’s not thattttt much different than other competitors
Just another nerd toy
