I can relate to this so much. So far in my career, I haven't been expected to be on call 24/7, but I'm afraid that expectation may change with a recent shift in management and a possible promotion I didn't ask for and don't particularly want. The quandray is that I'm 3.5 years from a full pension that would take care of all of my living expenses and 2 years from a reduced one that would take care of most of them, in addition to my savings/investments. But the uncertainty is having a toll on my mental health right now. I've always been a good performer at work and I want to try and tough it out and keep reasonable boundaries, but walking is not off the table if it gets too rough and I could make something work somehow (and I'd still get about half of my pension). I'm glad the algorithm recommended your channel to me, because I've really enjoyed it and can relate to so much of what you talk about. I would be retiring in my early 50's as well!
Finding the right employer and manager is key to allowing this to occur. We luckily have amazing firms and bosses we work for!
Well said!
