  • The Hundred Years' War was a long and bloody conflict that had a profound effect on England and France. This was a significant event in European history, and it is still being studied by historians today.
Causes of the Hundred Years War:
-The Hundred Years War was caused by several factors, including:
-Dispute over British territorial possession in France
-Legal succession to the French throne
-The rise of nationalism in England and France
-The decline of the feudal system in Europe
The Hundred Years' War was a series of armed conflicts between England and France, from 1337 to 1453. This war is considered, as one of the longest wars, in European history. The war was fought, over England's claim, to the French throne, and territorial rights in France.
The war began when King Edward III of England claimed the throne of France in 1337. Edward III was the grandson of King Philip IV of France, and he claimed the throne through his mother, Isabella of France. The French king, Philip VI, refused to recognize, Edward III's claims, and the two countries went to war.
The English won several early victories in the war, including the Battle of Crécy, in 1346, and, Battle of Poitiers, in 1356. At the Battle of Crécy, English long archers defeated the French cavalry, and at the Battle of Poitiers, the English captured King John II of France
The war continued, for years, with both sides winning and losing, in battle. In 1360, both sides signed the Treaty of Brétigny, ending the first phase of the war. The treaty, gave England control over most of France, including the duchy of Aquitaine.
The war resumed, in 1369, and the French, won several victories. In 1415, the English won a major victory, at the Battle of Agincourt. In 1422, Henry V of England, became king of England and France. However, Henry V died soon after becoming king, and his son, Henry VI, was only nine months old.
France took advantage of the minority of viceroys, to launch a successful campaign against England. In 1453, France won the Battle of Castillon, effectively ending the Hundred Years' War. The war had a major impact, on England and France. This led to the decline of the English monarchy and the rise of the French monarchy. It also led to the development of new military technologies, such as longbows and cannons
